Watching him play these games is somehow very satisfying and calming. He is so casual about it. It's clearly the biggest ultra smurf account destroying day 1 newbs, and yet it still feels extremely wholesome
4:30: “in honor of Lee-vie Roseman” 🤣 I wish Levy reacted to Hikaru videos sometimes lol sometimes the playful and references and roasts Hikaru sneaks in are gold lol
Same situation is happening with baseball. They are trying to change the game instead of just allowing new fans to understand the game better. Long term fans stick around and the game naturally spreads through them. Giving the fans personalities to follow is by far the most important part of any form of entertainment.
That’s why so many people drink and get involved in other ways at sports games, they enjoy their team; but the entertainment gets everyone excited. Start having chess tailgating and a crazy arena and it will be called a sport.
Are you stupid? Do you know who you are talking about? Man this is Hikaru! Seriously you must be out of your mind to say something crazy like that. You said he doesn't know about basic tactics! Man that was like two months ago when he was 400 elo. But he improved tremendously during this couple of months. Now he is like 1000 elo. That's some next level potential.
The speed chess championship has to be the most entertaining to watch, hard to grasp what's happening in bullet, but the 5+1 is probably the easiest to understand as an average player listening to commentary.
Time controls of like 3-15 minutes are the sweet spot for me as a casual chess player/viewer. There is enough time for commentators to explain what's happening without being too fast like bullet or too slow/boring like classical.
29:20 well if bowling terms depends on a couple of factors, If you got the 7,9 or 8,10 its a bad thing cause it will cut a good chunk of your score if not spared (good if the opponent does it) i call the A and H pawns 7,10 split
I’m only 700, but I love how you play such good chess and combine it with such easy to understand explanations of your thought process. Thanks for the vid.
In reference to the intro: I used to love learning chess from youtube videos. But lately there is so much garbage and much of it incomplete information that youtube is no longer an effective place for me to learn chess. After many years of playing chess I find that chess books still dominate my learning. I watch occasional content such as this video but primarily as a form of entertainment.
As far as I can see yeah. Since his queen side is also wide open, White's potential on creating pressure fast is pretty high which makes it difficult to defend
What...the..fk kinda opening to a video is that? 😂😂 Editor,I'm up at 2am for a solo Christmas and you've given me a laugh loud enough to worry the neighbours heard, hope you have a good day.
Fischer Random wasn't created to address the complaint that "chess is too drawish." It was to address the very real problem that people memorize too much and are less creative. As we see, today, some of the top players in chess aren't even very good when considering their inability to play creatively. When a game progresses to a point where it becomes unfamiliar to a player, we often see players make wildly stupid moves, which is to illustrate that those players would likely never have achieved 2700 ELO apart from memorization. Enter Fischer Random.
1. It is known that at a very young age Magnus was able to memorise difficult things very well. 2. At a young age, Magnus read a lot of chess books which may have contributed to tactical prowess. 3. Magnus has iron nerves at the board and is very good at staying composed. 4. He was mentored by the fathers of chess and plays one of the highest numbers of high level tournaments. 5. Norwegians >>> Edit: A lot of other top players haven't been mentored by some of the best World champions in history at a young age unlike Magnus.
I hope magnus and other to GM's are watching, they have alot to learn
Big words 😅
Magnus is a hate-watcher, but he is here.

I hope Hikaru guy could learn from this. "Don't care" guy😀
Damn straight they do

Hearing you talk about your W/L ratio with Magnus really puts things into perspective. Thanks!

As far as I can see yeah. Since his queen side is also wide open, White's potential on creating pressure fast is pretty high which makes it difficult to defend
