Hey guys, I hope you all enjoy the talk as much as I did!
Zak and I had a long talk about Age of Empires 4 towards the end of the episode, but he requested I remove some of those parts due to being unsure about what he would be able to share publicly or not.
    I obviously honored his request.
Wish everyone a Happy New Year!

ZeroEmpires probably the most significant figure in the history of Age of Empires, really glad to see him doing well at Relic. Awesome video as always!

I don't remember whether it was a fortuitous recommendation by youtube back in the day (2011ish), or a very specific keyword search that I made, but I discovered Zak's channel very early on. Whatever it was, thousands of hours of playing and watching Age content later, I can say that single click changed my life more than any other (and more than I could have imagined it would at the time.)

We are not a huge community, but you are doing a great service nevertheless. This is great work, many thanks!!
PS.1: May I suggest you have Spirit of the Law next time? I think I heard somewhere that he doesn't want to appear on camera, but perhaps he would agree to an audio interview?
    PS.2: Happy New Year :)

    • @MasmorraAoE
      @MasmorraAoE  2 года назад +11

      Thank you!
Coincidentally, I did reach out to Spirit for the 2nd time a few days ago.
He once again, very politely, declined.
But he did say he is a fan of the show, he does watch my videos and he didn't close the door completely to a future interview.
So I'm hopeful we might see him in this channel some time next year! :)

I'm going to compile a file with screenshots of all the people commenting they want to see SotL here (there are a lot by now...) and then send it to him.
      Maybe that'll convince him :D

Wow! What a legend ZeroEmpires! The first one teaching me buildorders. Bringing me back to AOE2.
He still maintains his great ability to talk and I just like to hear him talking even if some content in this interview was not interesting to me! Awesome personality.
It was absolutely mind blowing when he „came back“ in a way to AOE2 with Red Bull Wololo! 🤯
I hope there are more oppertunities to listen to Zero Empires. Thanks for that talk - I really enjoyed!

    Your conversations are so wholesome!
As someone who played AOE2 when it was released and only returned to it around ~2017 to find this flourishing community it's also a nice insight into the history of that community.
    Thank you!

@@MasmorraAoE That's so cool! Wow, I didn't know and didn't stalk all the streams enough to see whether I had reached anyone beyond reddit.
To be honest I was sceared. No matter how possitive the feedback in general was, I'd probably only remember the criticism. But that was actually quite encouraging.
      Thnaks for letting me know.

I joined the AoE2 community back in 2014 through Resonance22's video, though finding Zak around the same time too and being subbed to him since. I started playing HD, because thats where their content was from, but eventually found and moved to Voobly after finding it through the Nations Cup 2014 being streamed and later on meeting the LeO gang in Memb's stream about a year later. From other people, i always heard about the rivalry between Voobly and Zak, but didnt know what was going on myself, so only from what others said it felt like the situation was significantly worse than it was in reality. I really assumed both side absolutely hated each other, despite having no idea myself what was going on. Because of that i decided to stay neutral. Around late 2015 i started getting depressed which moved in 2016 and 2017. Things got very out of hand, and i could not think rationally anymore, eventually getting myself banned in Res22's discord when we both had a bad day. This was also around the time Zak left AoE, Taff, who was secretly part of LeO on an alt and played with us on occasion, left Voobly and someone in LeO (i never figured out who) ditched me from the main group because i didnt come to their meetup over in Germany, leading me to leave LeO altogeher. Eventually Zak came back with Escape, but because of my depression at the time, i only saw this as a "knockout blow attack" on Voobly after Taff had recently left. I started to begrudge him and the rest of Escape because of it, quitting AoE because the time of tournaments hosted by Voobly's team like NC and WiC had ended, and it was time for Escape to take over.
Several years later, around HC2 in early 2019, i came back to AoE. No longer depressed and realizing my mistakes, i made a post on the aoe2 Reddit apologizing to several people. I even apologized to Robo on steam, as i still had him added there. He had literaly no idea what i was even apologizing for, but i wanted to do it anyway for myself if not for him. I dont know how many of the people in it have actually seen that redditpost, probably none of them.
I still have a lot of fun memories with Zak, such as teaming up with him in a 1v1v1v1 2-player co-op Budapest community game, and playing on the ZeroCraft server.
Either way, what i want to say is Zak if you read this in the comments, because ive seen you here before, im truly sorry for holding an ungrounded grudge at you for those 2 years.
