  • Hello Everyone!
Been getting a lot of comments and questions on my videos which is great! However, most questions require a long answer/explanation so I decided to make a video answering them (instead of having to spend an astronomical amount of time typing away for only a handful of people that might see it).
I wasn't able to get to all the questions but I am more than willing to do a Part 2 if you guys found this helpful or useful!

I've been watching you since I started my bachelor's in computer engineering to now, having one semester left and a job lined up in ASIC design. Thank you for all of your help.

I just want you to know you're doing a great job. I've followed your videos for only a little while but in that time not only have your videos been educational and informative, but also motivational. Seeing someone who's successfully working in their field while also taking the time to give solid advice to others who are interested in that field offers a special kind of inspiration. Like in this video, when you were answering the question about whether you need to be good at math, and mentioning that engineers learn to solve problems, what I took from that was essentially it's not about having all the answers at first, it's about having the mindest and developing the skills to find a solution, that was really helpful to someone like me. Keep up the great work and keep being your awesome self. I hope you have a great day!

Just a heads up, you probably do have a certificate. Many schools that offer CS classes give certifications for passing their classes. Also for the guy that asked about doing engineering with robotics an not wanting to do CS... I hate to say but robotics is like 20% hardware and 80% software. I have been in an internship for robotics for the better part of a year and a half and you do not really work with hardware too often. And also, it is very important for even EE to learn coding because places will look at you to do the firmware since you are the only one who understands the underlying structure that is if you are working with micro controllers. I am doing Electrical Computer engineering and I can say that yes the code can suck but you learn to enjoy it more when you get a better grasp of it.

What jobs are out there for computer engineering that don't involve coding? I'm thinking about this for my major and seems like most of the jobs out there are software engineers or IT, at that point wouldn't it be better to focus solely on computer science? P.S. thank you for these videos!

I can do comparisons between engineering subdisciplines. Worked professionally in quite a few.
Mechanical engineer for FMC corp and Central Steel Inc
Consulting factory layout engineer for Knight, Boynton and National (3 consulting firms)
Electrical engineer for Essential Energy Inc
Financial Engineer for FSA, Wall Street modeling of ESOPs
Systems Engineer at Bell Labs, did the software piece for DSL
DARPA grant did GIS system database manager
Artificial kidney at Argonne National Laboratories
taught double docs MD PhD in biomedical engineering at UIC in neural modeling
Shared a two-man office with a triple doc astronaut doing fluidics research on re entry
Shared another 2-man office with a NASA space & aeronautics engineer,
and did seminars at Fermi lab with PJ, lab director
National govt consultant in modeling legal systems and gov info systems
Coursework went through stochastic systems, transform theory, all the systems courses, neural networks, circuit theory, communications theory, optimization, identification, graph theory.
The point is, you can ask me questions about comparisons, curricula-wise and university comparisons (62).
If anyone else has done such variety in engineering work, i sure want to be his or her friend. ndyer1 at uic dot edu

Are you single? If so, can I propose to you?
