Thank you for showing the unknown. Countless times we’ve worked on something and not been 100% certain of what part of the repair actually cured the issue, nice to see others who aren’t afraid to showcase that. Keep the content coming brother!

Sometimes the simplest thing is what you forget. Like swapping the injectors to find out if you're chasing it. Everybody does it. Good job sir videos are still top notch.

They need that diesel in a Detergent bottle at the Ottawa freedom trucker protest as the police have been seizing fuel in cans and arresting people for providing food, water, and fuel. Anyway, great video- I always learn a lot from them.

That's the one nice thing I like about my dealership I work at, some techs there will take time out of their day and give you help and/or advice. Even if it's just a dumb question you have, they will answer it.
    Also, I need that shirt!

It's nice to see you back. It's great that you are getting the truck that Mark sold you on the road. So what happened to Smoking Sally ?

I don't hear a rattle when you re-start it.. I have a pretty critical ear and I know the audio has to go through a ton of chains, but it sounds good. I personally don't drive stuff 10/10ths... but I'm not a diesel mechanic like you... Since I don't wanna necessarily rebuild the heads very often or at all. Great video Stephen!

Nice shirt Stephen 🤔 , very interesting interpretation of Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. #legit

Those old Dodge trucks from the 60s are cool as heck. And I'm a GM guy. I'm from the central valley of California and there used to be a guy around here that had a few. He used to pull one of them. Anyway I do not like phantom problems. They always happen to me. I'm not a mechanic by trade but I do some of my own work. I take in what I can't do or what I don't have time for. We have a 2004 gmc Sierra 2500hd 4x4 with the duramax. Currently 248,000 miles. I retired in July 2020. At this time we started having trouble with the truck. Code said injector #2 wire harness. This was already repaired. The shop fixed it again and it happened again then would stop. The first5 months the truck was in and out of shop. I asked if the injector could be the problem. Shop said no. Online information said injector problems are completely different. I asked shop if there was a way to check anyway. Because this was getting ridiculous. In the shop for a week, home for 50 miles and back to limp mode. Limp to shop and code said #2 injector harness. Finally they found that the #2 injector itself was bad and shorting out intermittently. It has been over a year with no limp mode problems. But it was something off the wall.

The way it first cranked over, sure sounded like you had low compression on one hole

    • @StephenCox.
      @StephenCox.  2 года назад +3

I heard that too but I think it was because I pulled those 2 injectors out. Before I tore into it I cranked it over to listen to compression. I also took off the oil cap and checked for blow by while it was running with the misfire issue and had no blowby.

From what you described, it almost sounds like that bridge went out of adjustment a long time ago and just finally got to the point where it was obvious. I have heard that swap injector trick from several competent mechanics. KT3406E did that on an engine on his channel recently, where he swapped the injectors from another engine just to see if the miss would follow to the new engine, and it did.

    I'd been struggling for two weeks with my 5.9, it's a '99.
Three (seasoned) people were stupefied. Great idle, but no power, and skipping with any throttle. I figured I had air in the system.
Learned a great lesson. Damn lift pump was waining, and seized the Vp44.
Right as rain after a few hours in the freezing rain!🤣, and an accelerator pedal reset.
These engines are great, except when they suck!

Unlike steel, non-ferrous metals like brass and copper generally get softer after a heat and quench. (Annealing) Letting them air cool is perfectly fine for this application, but there is nothing wrong with a water quench if you are in a hurry. Cooling with the blowgun works too.

Another fantastic video enjoyed watching all of your videos in the past and this is just another one with lots of knowledge we’ve all taken stuff apart like that even myself and switch stuff out then the problem goes away and you’re really not sure if you either fixed it or if things were just out of adjustment so I get what you’re saying and I’m sure a lot of other people will see the same thing all I guess you will know in the later time if it reoccurs that it’s possible that maybe the injector was bad but at this point what does write it down that maybe there was just an adjustment that was out. Anyway did a fantastic job look forward to more videos.

13:28 to 13:34,,,,, While the engine is cranking you can hear a no compression skip from one cylinder in the engine. That is never a good sign in my experience.
Edit: After reading a few comments, I see that someone else noted that as well.

I am happy to see your videos again Stephen. Soon as I saw the wrapped service truck I knew some things are still okay. I have seen that old style cab on one of the channels and its not something special to them, he just likes old trucks... I think its a 62 model four door two wheel drive but undercarriage is not a issue for you.... I am thinking junkyard digs ... Kevin has a buddy, name is Angus or close and using it to go to school and work, leaning town of power truck with heavy four speed. I remember that it had a wheelbearing out on it and had been a father son project truck that fell apart so it got parked for a long time then Angus who tries to be funny and fails sadly as he is smart and a good guy when he acts normal. I think if you approached him on it, they would like it to be a part of a youtube video an happy to see it go to a good home cause he parked it to drive a jeep Laredo... something with throttle body injection as carburetors seem to not be a strong suit for them and he lives in Minnesota where its cold.... so truck is decent but parked up

you most likely have a cam lobe down, you can hear the low compression skip when cranking, not sure why you would think a clicking noise would be a injector, the piston will make sure any sticking valve is reset to up,

I'll text my buddies and just pick their brain for any thoughts they have. I even dig through the muck of old forums sometimes, looking for a hidden gem in there. 1 year later, what was the issue in the end? I just had this exact same issue on my truck...#6 exhaust bridge came loose. 48k on motor, valves were adjusted 6k miles ago. Did not have any chatter, but I did notice the intake was much louder. Once it dropped, it sounded like gun shots coming through the intake but it still ran and cranked up. I had 12hrs and 750 miles of towing my camper that day...wife, kid, and two dogs in the cab broke down with a camper attached was ABSOLUTE hell!!
