I bought my 7 ur old a wltoys rc. I've been a big RCer since I was a kid. Dad got me and my brother into them. I have 2 Brushless Rustlers, Arrma Granite Brushless 4x4, I have the original 80s Tamiya Wild willy, needs new wheels. We have my dad's original 80s tamiya frog, and hornet. I have a redcat mt10e. I converted a 1/16th traxxas slash to a 1/16 revo. I call it the Slevo. When I got the wltoys for my daughter I couldn't leave it alone. I had to upgrade with metal parts and different things.
I reckon that if you are getting any rc that can come with a styrofoam box, get it because it saves money and also doubles up as an epic carrying case if you are going places with it. Epic!

I can't recall the brand, but it was a 100c - 1500mah. You'd have to check the tray size to be sure before you order. (I don't have either anymore to go and check 😬)
I built up a 959A. It has a metal chassis, suspension, and gear box housings. The motor was swapped for a brushed 540 and the tires for the 979A tires (about 15mm larger in diameter and 10mm wider). After optimizing the gearing, I de-potted the integrated ECU, swapped the MOSFETs for much lower Rdson and higher current models (it uses 4 of the exact same N channel). The new MOSFETs were installed with the negative polarity tabs on the bottom rather than the top, and a pair of custom heatsinks were added to each pair of MOSFETs. The traces running from the battery input to the MOSFETs and between the MOSFETs was beefed up by soldering braided solder wick over the trace, effectively increasing the cross section by 6x. The battery lead was swapped for a heavy awg Deans. After adding a heat sink fin to the motor, the body was trimmed to allow it to sit in a normal position and allow better air flow to the motor. Last, I added a fan to cool the ESC. This has been clocked at 55MPH on 1000mAh 125C 3s. The metal suspension and upgraded shocks fixes the problem of the shock popping off as they are bolted in place with a lock nut. The tire upgrade greatly increased the stability. My next project (after I finish my current Redcat XLT Pro monster truck conversion) is a WLToys 124017. I've had it for about 6 months, but have only driven it for about an hour. While doing a speed run, my son pulled his RC car into my path, obliterating the 124017's suspension and axle shafts on one side. I've replaced the suspension with a metal upgrade, but the cross hole on the axle shafts is 2mm too far out on the jack shaft, thus putting a great deal of slop in the suspension. I'm debating if I should make spacers to pull the jack shaft more onboard, add a spacer between the outer bearing and the hex wheel adaptor, or just machine the slot in the wheel adaptor deeper.

Everytime I work up the nerve to get a WLToys buggy, I realize that you can snag a brushed 2WD Bandit or Rustler for another $60. More durable, lots of aftermarket and infinitely customizable. Unless youre just looking to mess around with something 'different,' I have a hard time recommending these to friends. But I'm probably just over-thinking it. I should just get one and see. At least then I'd be speaking from personal experience, vice Internet lore. 😊
I have 2 Traxxas trucks I basically turned into WL toys with DumboRC radio, Surpass Esc/motors and 35kg Beto servos to keep from yawning to death. Traxxas makes awesome chassis and drivelines, the rest is koolaid.
Look ive had an WlToys 144001 for quite a while now and have never broken anything on it. And ive abused it kn the skate part ive abused it on extreme terrain and even in rainy days. And the thing still goes like crazy. These things are just made of some crazy plastic that never breaks. Although the only annoying thing about these is that the diffs can wear out very quickly because they dont have differencial oil from the factory, basically thick oil to protect the metal gearings. And the suspension can have leaking problems if the O rings to seal the shock is not mounted correctly. If you can fix all of those issues from factory, you will have an amazing time owning one of these. Its so, so much fun. But other than that the car is amazing.

The exposed shocks on the buggies are an issue w/ WLtoys buggy . The HyperGo brushless 4x4 basher truck shock towers are not exposed. I run my HyperGo w/ a 2200 3s lipo on mine.

Mine came in a foam box that splits down the middle instead of having a lid. The car didn't fit it correctly resulting in it arriving with a bent wing.
Yeah, my shocks were dry and sticking. And it's coggy as heck. Was hoping a real receiver and radio would fix that, or esc also. Cannot complain about the speed. It flips itself backwards on a launch . I'll mod the hell out her and make something solid. Nice review. Cheers !

They really have a quality issue with the shocks. I just got a 144001 and it seems to have exactly the same shocks. No oil whatsoever and also no seals, cannot put oil in them, it leaks all out in a couple of hours sitting still. Looks like yours might have leaked too, it looks springy the day after. Then I took it out and broke so many things in the first 10 minutes I pretty much gave up. Both A-arms also broke in an impact that was like 1/10th of what you have shown in the video. Oh well, I just got another one and also ordered some spare A-arms. The stock brushless is junk, it's massively overgeared and it cogs like crazy. You can probably tune the brakes with the program card. On the positive side is that you can fit a 3656 motor in it... I went for a 3800kv and it's simply mental, I'll turn it down to 2800kv and hope it's not that insane... but still a bit insane. After all gearing it down to a sane level would just be too boring 😉. Have fun, looking forward to see the speed run.

It's prob a good thing those shocks popped right off the mounts !! It's prob designed that way save them from breaking ! They will release themselves with just a mild amount of pressure to prevent it from taking too much of an impact

I mean the gear pinion to what we call counter gear old school! They need to be cheaper or sold as rollers. I didn't mind my 144001 because I got it so cheap and knew I was going brushless immediately. I wasn't happy with the 144010 until I switched out esc and receiver. Plus neither had any grease in diffs or oil in shocks. They're not as rdy to run as they should be...
Yeah it's hard to say if it will be the same in the actual production run, mine seems to have a few differences compared to the boxed versions. So it may have been corrected 🤔
The thing is right.... they actually put a name on the box and the cars.... but they still call it the numbers. They need to hire an American...or a well known RUclips Canadian cough "you" cough... to name these things.
Saved all you penny's to buy a cheap Chinese knock of rc for a knock off Chinese website and is the only place you cam buy parts for. My question is what cell phone do you use? Would you use a knock off iPhone or Samsung phone from that website?

I don't think this car worth the money. It looks undrivable I bet with a brushed motor it will be better and cheaper. Achieving high top speed is not important speaking for myself.

Both. Overpriced and underbuilt. Basically just a hodgepodge between the 959b and 144001 with leftover parts between the two but hey it has a new chassis haha. I'll wait for it to go on sale to even think about it but the retail $180 is ridiculous in my opinion. To each their own though.

dissolve some stryro in some paint thinner and youll have liquid plastic to coat pcb to make it waterproof

It really depends what you wanna do, but with a little chassis modification you can fit in a 3300mah 80-100c rating will send it

It was a Sunpadow 1100mah, too long to fit the bracket and only 25c. Will try to find a better battery and see what happens next 👍

I was thinking that they might, these are alot smaller tho. If you put a damper inside the shock to shorten the travel 🤔

They need to be cheaper or sold as rollers. I didn't mind my 144001 because I got it so cheap and knew I was going brushless immediately. I wasn't happy with the 144010 until I switched out esc and receiver. Plus neither had any grease in diffs or oil in shocks. They're not as rdy to run as they should be...

I don't think this car worth the money. It looks undrivable I bet with a brushed motor it will be better and cheaper. Achieving high top speed is not important speaking for myself.

Both. Overpriced and underbuilt. Basically just a hodgepodge between the 959b and 144001 with leftover parts between the two but hey it has a new chassis haha. I'll wait for it to go on sale to even think about it but the retail $180 is ridiculous in my opinion. To each their own though.
