RIP Master Ted Wong you said it best: “If Bruce Lee Art die out like dinosaur, I can live with that. But Jeet Kune Do turned into something else that still copies his Art, this like Apple turns into an Orange, I think that’s not right!” True respect.
già dal nick poi...ahahaha! ma si,chi se ne frega di questo fenomeno da tendone di circo, lasciamolo perdere...tanto gente del genere non merita il nostro tempo.
Cool video. I train in JKD under Sifu Jeremy Lynch who is one of Sifu Tim Tacketts students as well as the late Bob Bremers and Jim Sewell. We train at Sifu Tacketts home on Wednesday nights in Redlands California. And sifu Jeremys in Yucaipa on Thursdays and Sundays. I love it and can say that we strive to keep the integrity of the art Adobe and well.
I love Ted. He is one of the purest, nicest guys you'll ever come across. Last I remember, he was teaching free in San Fransisco. He, Jerry and Tim remain the closest to Bruce's original art. Everyone else just does the "concept" thing. Tim still teaches in Redlands I believe and Dan used to teach right up the street from me in Torrance when I lived there in 1975. Dan though, was more interested in Filipino arts and concentrated less on JKD. He coined the "concept" phrase for whatever reason.
Shen: Ted Wong is a humble man. He is hardly a "shit talker." Is Wong one of JKD's best fighters? No, but he is a very proficient martial artist. Please show the appropriate respect for a man who has carried on Bruce Lee's art.
Dan Inosanto made his promise to Bruce Lee not to commercialize (as in earning money) Jeet Kune Do in 1971 right before Lee left the US to return to Hong Kong that year.
Waw! Great video, Ted Wong is a living legend. He train in private with Bruce Lee - he is one of the best JKD teachers from the planet. He also keep the JKD flame alive, he never mixed JKD with other arts (Kali, Muay Thai, etc).
I'm not sure if everyone knows this, but Ted Wong made this comment years before about one particular technique from Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do (the name that Bruce Lee's real art now goes by): "The Lead (Straight) Punch of JFJKD® was Bruce Lee's® baby, and, believe me, when Bruce Lee® practiced the lead punch -- at least when I was holding the focus pad for him -- the impact felt as though my hand had been struck by an elephant gun!"
Oh my gosh. Upon seeing RIP Sifu Ted Wong comments here, I went over to the Bruce Lee Foundation website and just learned (as of Sunday, February 13, 2011) that Sifu Ted Wong had indeed passed away (November 24, 2010). Sadly I never had the chance to meet him, and what really saddens me about his passing is that not only was Ted Wong the student who logged more that 122 private training sessions with Bruce Lee, he (Wong) was as close as you can get to the "original"/JFJKD after Bruce died.
Well, towards the end of Bruce's life it's Ted Wong who was his protege,Inosanto stay'd in the USA and trained a few in his backyard and MAINLY visited Hong Kong for Game of Death. The Lee family can confirm that Lee and Wong have at least met on 122 seperate ocassions training in JKD.Why he didn't ask Wong to be in GOD i can't tell,it's a good question to ask him when i visit Seattle this week as i will be there visiting the Bruce Lee Foundation.NOTE that Bruce was Wongs best man on his wedding.
Probably people will hate me because I say this but Ted Wong was never officially made to an instructor by Lee. Wong was only a private student of Lee, which anyone could have been (it doesn't differ from being a normal student at a "dojo"), he didn't teach anyone under Lee's supervision, which is needed for an instructor qualification so wtf. Yeah and probably someone will say that I've never met Wong or Lee (neither have you, likely) and will hate me because I don't trust Wong's stuff.
I train Jeet Kune Do under the lineage of Tim Tacket wich in turn is certified by Dan Inosanto. There is a school who's lineage goes from Ted Wong and they have a different and unique approach to Jeet Kune Do (Probably what people call the original Jeet Kune Do) If it comes to a discussion between the "original" Jeet Kune Do and "concepts" then in my opinion there both the same. Except that you can't call it Jeet Kune Do if you add things because of it's philosophy. It should be part of you're own personal growth and development, but only Bruce Lee could have change the art because it's his art and ideas
JKD is for the streets, cuz it teaches you in the first place to defend you in a real battle. That doenst mean you can not use it in a ring. Only then you got rules you got to stick by.
That what you got when you put a discussion. Some will agree and some will disagree, some will agree to disagree and some will disagree to agree. Thats life
Oh and also I saw an interview where Guro Inosanto says theres actually the Jun Fan course in his Kali Academy.. but that was a long time ago I'm not sure about now
Oh that's so cool, I didn't know that. When you go to seattle keep a look out for a guy in dreads; my Sifu Dwight Woods is going. He studied under Dan Inosanto. Hope you have a nice time man, I wish I could go myself!
JKD isnt about mixing arts. Its about Self-Discovery.Its learning how to fight in 4 different ranges, Kicking Range (Muay Thai, Karate, Savate ect. , Punching (Boxing), Trappling (Wing Chun, Muay Thai), Grappling (Jiu Jiutsu, Wrestling ect.) And you dont need to know all those things Styles wants you to know. Just take whats usefull and throw away whats not. Dont think in ringsports, but in streetfight, in defending yourself when theres no way out. For all of us JKD can be aproach differently.
to quote Bruce Lee: a Jeet Kune Do man who says Jeet Kune Do is exclusively Jeet Kune Do is simply not with it. He is still hung up on his self-closing resistance, in this case anchored down to reactionary pattern, and naturally is still bound by another modified pattern and can move within its limits. He has not digested the simple fact that truth exists outside all molds; pattern and awareness is never exclusive.
JKD is not about just mixing arts..But about Self DIscovery and being Directness, and Keeping it simple and pure. A JKD man should keep his mind always in the state of emptiness, so that his freedom in action will never be obstructed. JKD is the art not founded on techniques or doctrine. It is just as you are.
Not all UFC fighters have studied different arts. Many R still Wrestlers or BJJ and they have studied there style to win a battle that got rules. JKD is something pure for the streets. On the streets anything goes. You can kick the groin, Throw an Eyejab, attack from behind or even bite. You could even use a bottle, stick or knife and thats why JKD is the ultimate in its way. It learns you use this or defend against it.
There's nothing outstanding at being Bruce Lee's last student. What people who are interested in JKD are missing, is this - Ted Wong logged the most number of hours in terms of personalised instruction from the founder himself. He was Bruce Lee's sounding board and "guinea pig" for technique experimentation. After all is said and done, JKD was preserved thru Ted Wong's teachings and lineage.
I know it's an art, I never said it wasn't. As you probably know, Bruce did say that he hated having to name JKD since people were going to start viewing it as a magic system. You're right though, there is a base, and in concepts we do learn all that Bruce Lee taught and we respect it. But we also evolve with it. As far as I know Bruce left Inosanto in charge with carrying on, not Ted Wong. Maybe I'm wrong, but who knows, we would have to have been there to really know.
@jkdpolice I know what you meant, but you missing the point. Offcourse if we healthy we have 2 arms 2 legs a body and a head. But we are all different build. heavy or thin, big or little, long reach, short reach, flexible or stiff to name a few..
Sifu Ted Wong to me is the only man, from the first generation, authorised to teach JKD.I say that because the other one is making it into something else like change for the sake of change and not change bacause of circumstances that call for it.Also concepts ADDs more and more and this is a great violation of the principles of JKD.Concepts is like lost in the woods, real JKD takes you to a higher level and that is trancedance.Respect Sifu for your hard work and see you soon in Holland again.
The idea of who spent more time with Bruce is debatable as well. I know for a fact that Dan Inosanto spent a lot of time with Bruce towards the end of his life, especially during the time that Bruce was on his evolutionary path. It's funny, I was watching the lost footage of Game of Death and Ted Wong is nowhere to be seen, I wonder why? I did however see Dan Inosanto in it. I don't think Ted Wong was asked to be in it. If he was as close to Bruce as you say, why wasn't he in the end scene?
JKD was in his basic Wing Chun and footwork from fencing, western boxing. Then he started using grappling, jiu jiutsu and thai boxing and it was still in the move. But dont see these at using those styles to make a style. No he took what worked for him. That doesnt mean it works for you. At the end its just being like water, always moving and you know how water can change. Dont see yourself mixing style to make a style, cuz JKD is not a Style. Its your own personal Style.
(Continued) Sorry I meant "original" JKD/JFJKD. No offense to those who trained with Bruce Lee and to those who trained with former Bruce Lee students of course. Thank you Sifu Ted Wong for sharing as much as you could about what Bruce Lee taught you in JKD/JFJKD. You will be missed.
@KurtCobain198666 Yes but these guys create a new style with kata and dancing around. JKD is a phylosophy, a system. It doenst believe in kata or dancing around. Only directness and simplicity.
Oke, as far as your concerned it's an art now and i know Bruce viewd it as an art too.Misconception about who's left in charge of JKD after Bruce's death is debatable simply who was to know at that time that Bruce would pass away so quickly,Bruce didn't.He charges to close all schools he had and Dan Inosanto could train a few in his backyard.Ted Wong went with Bruce to Hong Kong as a sparringpartner and therefore has more hours of training than Dan and trained in the latter stages of JKD.
To Quote Bruce Lee: Again let me remind you Jeet Kune Do is just a name used, a boat to get one across, and once across it is to be discarded and not to be carried on one's back! (Quote Closed) So now do you still wanna discuss JFJKD!! Come on be real, Im no tough man..Im realistic.
As far as no one ever asking Dan about LaCoste or Parker is a bit exagerated because I have. Of course people will ask more about Bruce because it's JKD not Kempo or plain Kali. Not to mention that Bruce was also an actor making him known to many more. I think even Dan would admit that Bruce made him who he is today. No secret there.
First of all Im just a normal guy who got a great interest in fighting or training. I like JKD and I think its great to learn about the phylosophy. But like Bruce said..JKD its just a name!! I think JKDers tend to stand still in 1970 and thats whats JKD not about. Like Bruce was constantly devoloping and training what worked for him, it has to be something for THE now and what works for every individual. Like most trapping it doesnt work now a days cuz the way people block or punch aint the same
So, we have this ongoing argument between Jun Fan JKD and JKD Concepts. This is really not a question of what is "better," because they are BOTH valuable. Sifu Wong is trying to preserve JKD as Bruce ORIGINALLY taught it. The Foundation. Guro Dan teaches HIS personal evolution of JKD, which has come to include Kali and BJJ. Study BOTH.
Debating who should be #1, Ted Wong or Dan Inosanto is futile. Both men spent a lot of time training with Bruce. One chooses to keep JKD just the way Bruce taught it to him and the other has expanded and added to it throughout his life. They've had some differences of opinion in the past but the bottom line is they have the upmost respect for each other. I've been to seminars with Dan but would love to train with Ted too!
lol haha yes im a fighter...i feel martial artist doesnt do good for anybody, cuz I feel artists are in movies, music or painters or in circus. But thats what I feel. Dont fuzz about it. Im no tough guy..Im nobody..just being me. I train hard..4 to 6 times a week. Yes I train my JKD...thats includes Boxing, Kickboxing, Jiu Jutsu and fitness. Cuz that works for Me. Maybe you train Fencing, Boxing and Gung Fu and you call it JFJKD. But remember its not the way. its just what works for you.
Well you're entitled to your opinion of course. I would say one thing though. Every single former student of Bruce has profited off of Bruce's name, including Ted Wong so as far as who's prifited the most well when the actual numbers come out only then will you have a definite answer.
@KurtCobain198666 Ive commented on a post that send me months ago hahah. ive just seen it. It says that that Chuck Norris ect. also mixed things and made their own style and that it wouldnt be JKD. And about Ted Wong. Yes he s stuck with what Lee teached him in the 70s. I think Lee would have wished he developed himself further instead of being trapped in the past. JKD has to change with time. Its always developing...
Dont you really get it?? Every style got usefull stuff and it also got useless stuff. You got Kicking Styles, You got Punching Styles, You got Trapping Styles, You got Grappling Styles. Take from each style the usefull stuff and you can battle. Im not talking about basics or kata or stuf f like that. Bruce also did this, he started with Wing Chun, Fencing, Boxing..later he put Jiu Jiutsu and Judo in it..Then Muay Thai and if he lived on he would keep adding Usefull stuff to his FIghting Skill.
That was funny. You got a lot of holes in your facts my friend. Sifu Davis did not know Sijo Lee, that's b.s. 1)Dan established JKD Concepts because he made a promise not to profit from his friend's theory.2)Dan withdrew his rights by court order. Linda Lee did not want anyone teaching JKD if not through her foundation. 3) Dan does not have any new style named "jdk" what is that anyway?lol If Sifu Davis told you this (which I don't think he would) then change schools.lol
@jkdpolice this is a long time ago, but im back and im reading this discussion we head. Still I stay with my point. Yes we R all different, when I say this I mean we R all different build. Some of us R big and slow, Some of us R thin and fast. Some of us are flexible and some R just not.
Kinesiology is the science of human movement . All human has two hand and two feet. However people are different in the level of flexibility , speed , built , height, skill level and talent( some people are naturally gifted puncher / some are gifted kicker/ some are wrestlers, grapplers. Bruce Lee developed Jeet Kune Do not as another system.
Whaterverman. O.K. let's look at the facts. Davis was born in 1957 according to his site. He didn't start training until the age of 10 which would be 1967. He was training in Karate. Lee did in 1973 that would have made Davis 15 or 16 years old. Plus, he did not start training in JKD until the late 70's. Years after Bruce died. Unless Bruce had a 10 year old pen pal in Alabama, this is hard to believe.
Hello ditrex001,i have to parry your opinion in this one cause to say that JKD is not an art is not correct cause there is a curriculum to start from(on guard position, strong side forward, longest weapon to nearest target)and from there a practicioner might grow from.Evolution comes from understanding the roots of combat and not change for the sake of change,REMEMBER:to change with change is the changeless state.
Ironically, the two most well-known JKD instructors are quite possibly the arts least proficient fighters. Ted Wong is the ultimate overachiever and Dan Inosanto is a far better teacher than he is a fighter. Many of Bruce Lee's lesser known students were major league tough guys. Jesse Glover, Ed Hart, James DeMile, Howard Williams, James Lee, Bob Bremer, Leroy Garcia, Dan Lee, Patrick Strong, and Larry Hartsell were all legitimate fighters.
I don't really need to tell you that your comment was ignorant but I'll give it a shot. Jerry was taught by those two guys, especially Dan. Also, most people don't know that Jerry's attendance record when Bruce was teaching wasn't very good. He picked up a lot of what he knows now from those two guys you mentioned. FYI
He never wanted to commercialize his art? That's why he made references to it in his movies....Hmm Funny, he should also mention who gave him his instructorship. Hint: Not Bruce He trained with Bruce all of 18 months. And the backstabbing continues...
I see a lot of discussing here.. Why not just Absorb what is useful, neglect what's useless and add what is specifcially your own? Be like water my friend.. "keep on flowing."
I do get it, but I think you dont get what im saying. There is no study of Body Mechanics..I dont believe in that, cuz every person is different. As long you dont understand what Im talking about than we will never agree. But that doesnt matter thats why this is called a discussion. About me, im not talking about me, but to answer your personal attack. Yes I am a martial artist or fighter is for me a better word.
JKD can not be seen as a style so can NOT be teached as a Style like Jun Fan JKD. First Jun Fan JKD is Bruce Lees way of thinking so can not be somebody elses way of thinking. If you do this you believe in JKD as a Style. And you will teach or learn it like it is in the 70s. JKD is more like a way of thinking and absorb whats usefull and destroy whats NOT. So like fighting HAS changed over the years it will never can be a winner if you keep yourself in the past. and thats real JKD my Friend!
whatever dude! someone told you that.I trained with both Dan Inosanto and Ted Wong.I know more about Bruce than you know and his training methods,Don't take what he did in the movies for what he did for real.PLus both of those guys was there.you wasn't thought about hell i'm 15 years your senior kiddo.
lol these people arguing about JKD should be arguing about whos english teacher is worse. this is exactly y bruce lee didnt want to give his methods and philosophies on fighting a name. put a bunch of philosophers in a room and they will agree on everything. Put a bunch of philosophers' students in a room and they will disagree on everything
Yo, I think Ted Wong was upset with some people because they used B. lee's name & their association with him to promote themselves & their monopoly. In other words they bastardized & commercialized B. Lee's life time work, his Jeet Kune Do. Yo, " Jack of all trades, master of none" peace!
Ive did research cuz my interest in fighting is BIG. So I know what you mean with Jun Fan JKD and I know this was the last stage of JKD right before Bruce died. Now If Bruce Lee wasnt dead at that time or was still alive. Do you really think that this way of fight would be still the same..No! Bruce was a devolper and went with his time, he would keep on changing in till there wouldnt be any JKD left..just water. JKD now is commercialized, its about i was Bruce lees student and profit from it!
Look minasz, I agree with alot of what your saying. cobain just doesn't understand what you're trying to convey to him. u either understand bruce's philosophy or u don't. alot of people just don't get it. But remember, Bruce wouldn't want u arguing over trivial things. so just let it go my friend. don't feed the flames.
Secondly let me state it this way. I, Me myself and maybe some other Cats DONT believe in JFJKD as something that Bruce wanted to be. JFJKD is something that stood still after Bruces death in the 70s.Bruce alwayz was inventing and devoloping, so this so called JFJKD style is not a REAL THING. If you still dont know what im talking about, i really dont know how to explain it any further. Maybe my english is not so well. Sorry! I cant get this more clear than this
Secondly: And to answer you about why JFJKD can not exist, cuz if you believe in the words of Bruce instead of many many JKD so called instructors..Bruce has not invented a style. Its just train whats works for you. Nothing more! and JFJKD is a Style! You can not deny that.
How can you say this man sucks you never met him.If you are saying Ted Wong sucks then i would be the one that you want to meet.show me what you got.Washinton University
I think Ted Wong is wrong on this one. At the time of his death, Bruce Lee was on an evolutionary path. He said many times that he didn't entirely like the fact that JKD was being viewed as an art, as another style. Why? Because he also said many times that a person should not allow himself to be tie down to one art to a set of standards. This is exactly what Ted Wong is doing. In order to honor Lee's memory, than we should continue to follow the path he laid down, his constant evolution.
But I mean LOOK how he kicks and punches WTF. He doesn't protect his face or anything, and he lifts his shoulders all the time so who is he? Sorry if I'm too critical but his videos really don't convince.
RIP Master Ted Wong you said it best: “If Bruce Lee Art die out like dinosaur, I can live with that. But Jeet Kune Do turned into something else that still copies his Art, this like Apple turns into an Orange, I think that’s not right!” True respect.
Ted Wong, Jesse Glover, Taky Kimura, Bob Bremer and Tim Tacket represent the real Bruce Lee's Legacy.
+Frank Lion true!! and Sifu Tommy Carruthers.

Actually I looked up the part about Wong being the best man. I read that it was Taky Kimura who was the best man at Bruce's wedding.
That sounds amazing.
Tommy C is a phenomenal JKDer as well.
the punching bag is like a giant upside down crayon! lol

Some people are too close-minded to just be unbiased about this kinda stuff.
"Having no way as way, having no limitations as limitations." - Bruce Lee

afide26 Are you sure about that? Can I find any books that confirm that statement. I need too see it.
Ted Wong is the best standard of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do like Tacket and other too.

At the end its just being like water, always moving and you know how water can change. Dont see yourself mixing style to make a style, cuz JKD is not a Style. Its your own personal Style.
R.I.P TED WONG
Jun Fan Gung Fu is the earlier system developed by Lee.
JFGF, never heard of that, what is it?
Yup started and ended in 1967. Thanks for clarifying.
P.S. I like zipper hoodies.
thank you teacher ,Mr. Ted wong si fu. (Bao)
Ted Wong very nice person, we shall miss him.
RIP Sifu Ted Wong
@KurtCobain198666 Yes but these guys create a new style with kata and dancing around. JKD is a phylosophy, a system. It doenst believe in kata or dancing around. Only directness and simplicity.
Exactly! For someone who was as close to Bruce Lee as Ted Wong was, I think he totally missed Bruce's point on martial arts.
R.I.P Sifu Ted Wong
(Quote Closed)
So now do you still wanna discuss JFJKD!!
Like most trapping it doesnt work now a days cuz the way people block or punch aint the same
@VegaManX7 Hee Vegaman, I just read this post of yours. It was 5 months ago. hahah..Peace
@addeps3
And I pray that Bruce's "art" (his real, true art of Jeet Kune Do/Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do) will never be lost even with Ted Wong's passing.
You are so right I have been looking for you
So, we have this ongoing argument between Jun Fan JKD and JKD Concepts.
This is really not a question of what is "better," because they are BOTH valuable. Sifu Wong is trying to preserve JKD as Bruce ORIGINALLY taught it. The Foundation. Guro Dan teaches HIS personal evolution of JKD, which has come to include Kali and BJJ.
Study BOTH.
R.I.P. Sifu wong from ct
just so there is no confusion, the below post i wrote was of course dedicated to wingchunsux
JKD is fighting using what works for you.
why dont hese fantastical JKD practitioners ever fight in competitions
3) Dan does not have any new style named "jdk" what is that anyway?lol
If Sifu Davis told you this (which I don't think he would) then change schools.lol
Ah I get you. Bruce was Wong's best man at Wong's wedding. Read that wrong.
SI GUNG TED WONG THE BEST AFTER SI JO BRUCE LEE
Whaterverman.
O.K. let's look at the facts. Davis was born in 1957 according to his site. He didn't start training until the age of 10 which would be 1967. He was training in Karate. Lee did in 1973 that would have made Davis 15 or 16 years old. Plus, he did not start training in JKD until the late 70's. Years after Bruce died.
Unless Bruce had a 10 year old pen pal in Alabama, this is hard to believe.
RIP Ted
Thank you...
I love Sifu Ted Wong, but I don't care for him putting down JKD.
That's why he made references to it in his movies....Hmm
Funny, he should also mention who gave him his instructorship. Hint: Not Bruce
He trained with Bruce all of 18 months.
And the backstabbing continues...
Sorry for boasting ...but I have been taught by Ted Wong ....
At a seminar organised by Sifu Tommy C...in Glasgow ..
An honour and a privilege
Good point!
How are you my name is Arthur
Another loss for the Bruce Lee Legacy and Family.
R.I.P :(
Secondly let me state it this way.
