Question, what if my cockatiel always hisses and bites my finger a little when I approach him, but then he comes up to me and acts all lovey dovey a second later? It’s always made me worried he’s disstressed because he also tends to groom himself a lot (he’s about 3 months old and I’ve had him for about 2 weeks) but those would be the only signs he shows. He loves being on me and is constantly wanting to preen me and sleep on me, 😅 so is he just spunky or distressed, I can’t tell 😭

Hi, am back again with another issue, why is my new cockatiel is scared of me? He has spent two months with me. But doesn’t seem to be interested in talking to me? He is a 5 month old male cockatiel. I don’t know what to do? Also, he shares space with two budgies - one male and other female. The male budgie is sexually aggressive with him. Please help us . Thanks

He probably will grow on you later. More reasons why I do not buy baby birds since their personalities are not set. You might want to buy a young adult or adult bird and let them choose you.

I have no idea what happened to my bird. I’ve had him for 3 years got him when he was a baby. He used to love me. He would get excited when I would open his cage, rush to the gate, and wait for me to pick him up up for his morning love. Now, he’ll try to get away, hiss, bite. I dunno why.
When I have him with me when I sit, he’s fine. I try to give him exercise by letting fly laps around the troop.
When he sits with me, he’ll come peck my face to get attention. I’ll let his head for a bit, then he bites and runs up my shoulder. Then comes back down when he’s ready.
But I don’t know why the sudden aggression. Nothing has changed with routine or environment. He has the old man 17 year old he hangs with. I dunno.

I have found that mine get aggressive when I cross their 'boundaries'. So perhaps he's changed his mind and doesn't like you to reach in, perhaps he want to come to the edge of his cage himself? I found patience and giving them more time to show them what they actually want has helped me incredibly well! :)

    Namaste,
I'm from India Bangalore. Recently we got two cockatails which are 5 months old. Once let out of the cage they both fly and sit on top of the curtain rod and don't fly around even for an hour. We pick them and feed by our hands. Again they fly back on the rod.
How to make them move around the room?
Also we have a Golden Retriever and a Persian Cat. Is it possible to introduce these Cockateils to them safely and let them fly all around the house?

Is this ok? What should I do?

Cockatiels are supposed to “pluck” their feathers. It’s called preening.
