      And here we have an example of why punctuation matters.
      "... named our cat Aglet, because she loves to attack shoelaces, thanks to this episode!"
      or "... named our cat Aglet; because she loves to attack shoelaces thanks to this episode!"
      Quite the difference. On context I assume the former, but as written it is equally possible that that episode gave the cat a life long fascination with shoelaces.

And everyone was like, "Oh that's easy!" And then there was this one kid who yelled out "This is easy! There was a whole episode of Phineas and Ferb dedicated to this." Everyone agreed that that was the only reason why we knew what the tip of a shoelace was called. So, congrats Dan. You did indeed teach a whole generation what an aglet is.

    In the Suite Lift of Zack and Cody, there's actually a joke about an Aglet. Maddie knows what it's called and London doesn't. Since that was also a Disney show and it predated Phineas and Ferb, I always assumed someone on the show staff saw that Suite Life episode.

So the show taught me the word in two different languages. Of course, that also means I make an effort to use the word whenever possible to make it a relevant piece of knowledge

      @chilly254 2 года назад +4

      Same here, but in Spanish. And it's funnier because the word used in Latin American Dub (Acetato) is the same as the translated word of chemistry term Acetate so you don't get the results unless you specify Phineas And Ferb. Even so, the European Spanish translation uses a word that is technically better for the case of use (Herrete) , because refers only to that part of the shoelace, but the song and the word sound so WEIRD (at least for me as a Latin American) I usually just remember the Acetato

    And now here we all are, tying the world together with the knowledge of aglets and the fact that the platypus is the only mammal to lay eggs.

    I don't remember the circumstances, but I wound up learning what an aglet was when I was a kid back in the early 1970s. I got to tell my daughter "That's an aglet!" before the characters in the show got to find out what the tip of a shoelace was called. Wven though she was a 9th grade teenager, she was still appreciatively impressed by her dear old dad. 🙂.
    I've been watching television for over half a century, and "Phineas and Ferb" is easily in my top 50, and probably top 25 favorite television shows. Definitely top 5 cartoons.

    I knew what an aglet was because when I was in about 8th grade (about 1980), our school library had a book called The Book of Lists. Lots of fun lists like longest words in the English language, and a list of obscure words. Aglet was on that list.
