  • Well, I was told one thing by a Skidoo mechanic and they made it clear they had never done this as it was a 2021 in Oct 2020. So, it turned out to be a learning lesson for me that applies to most of life.

I would do it from the side as well, however I took the all panels off yesterday and top,and it took all of 10 minutes, good to know how it comes apart in the shop in case you need to take apart in the field. Thanks for the video

I’m a certified BRP technician and as you have shown you can clearly change the oil and filter without removing the hood. But if you are doing a correct warranty service you need to remove hood anyways to check other things. As a dealer you don’t just do an oil change. But to remove the hood is only 6 torx screws and when you have done it a couple of times it takes about a minute and makes everything easier. Happy holidays!

Thanks much. I can verify that you can get by without removing the hood (or the exhaust can if that's the way you want to go) to do a full oil change on an 2022 Expedition 900 ACE. It's really only one bolt on the filter compartment cap that is problematic, and that is obstructed by two hoses. Torqueing the filter cap bolts is certainly problematic (for any torque wrench I have), but removing the hood doesn't really help with that. "What I Do" (and a couple other RUclipsrs) is right that taking the hood off isn't a big deal and his video is worth watching.

      Excellent comments
I bought an oil vacuum for this sled and it failed, only getting half the oil.
I comfort myself with 6 months worth of amazing trouble free riding and 1 hour of French careless engineering once a year when changing the oil and filter. My old Yamaha Nitro was a 5 minute job.

It's actually a much easier job if you remove the muffler, it's only held in place with 6 springs which are easily removed with the correct tool, some 500# monofilm fishing line or wire. Once the muffler is out of the way, there is enough flex in the pipes to push those out of the way too plus you can get some rag down below the filter housing to catch the oil that spills. The only thing to be careful of is that the doughnuts don't fall off the ends of the pipes while you have the muffler off.

@@practicalporters Np... just to clarify, the pipes themselves do not flex, they are held onto the engine with springs so you can rotate/swing them a few degrees which helps when getting the bolts out.

I just buy filters and use Mobil1. BRP mechanic said to his knowledge the BRP oil is nothing special, but if you pick and differ t type, not to switch back and forth.

Great video, my hands aren't the best for tight areas like this, I remove the hood and grease the front shocks at the same time, after you've done it once it's actually pretty easy, sure wish it was a hinged hood as were all sleds back in the day!. I have a video showing how to remove the hood called Ski-doo skandic WT update three. Iv'e got removing the hood down to just a few minutes now. Just thought it might help if you do decide to remove it.

Ditto this. This is my second winter on a 2022 900 Ace, but looks pretty similar under the hood. Windshield just pops off without any tools, all the plastics come off with about six torx screws. Isn’t too bad at all. I installed all my own accessories including skid plate, bumpers and winch so I got some practice at taking it apart. Although mine just rolled over 600 km I found I had to adjust the chain tension, as I was starting to hear it rattle on startup. Thought it was the valve train but thankfully not. I have towed some serious weight though, including a couple bison. It’s been a great machine so far.

My 2011 Grand Touring 600 Ace has reached 44 600KM from personal and previous rental use & it could have reached more kilometer but , I’ve bought a 2012 engine with 19 000km so I’m watching this video to properly changing oil and refiling my new engine , good engine , to reach that high mileage , I wouldn’t be surprised if my engine would have reached 50 000KM , it’s just that I wanted a lower mileage ! Cheers from Valcourt , Quebec ! The Ski Doo town 😀

I am looking to buy the same machine. Does the 600 ACE have enough power for you?

    • @practicalporters
      @practicalporters  3 года назад

Yes, the 600 is amazing and gets the same excitement for me on the mpg. We use this one just for fun and in low gear it never has engine lack, just traction issues being just a WT.
The 900 SWT we use for grooming trails is the way to go for being a work horse.
So it depends on your application. If in doubt and you can afford it, go bigger. I wanted to go in narrow trees and still side hill when needed so I went with the 600 WT.
      Make sense?
Tell me you thoughts if you'd like.

I have both a 2021 600 Ace Scandic and a 2020 Expedition 900 Ace. I love both, but I adore the gas mileage with the 600 Ace. It gets about 50% more mileage per tank. Has plenty of power and I find is a lot smoother in the bush for hauling fire wood and stuff.

Greetings from Alaska. I believe the do make 2 models of the 600 2 stroke and a 4 stroke, like I bought, the ACE. The 900 is only ACE 4 stroke. Goto SKI-DOO.COM and build one and it will show all the options available and price differences. The 2 strokes are great and people in Alaska like them for easy starts in cold weather. I went with 4 stoke for LONG life.

      No, 600 is a 2 cylinder and the 900 a 3 cylinder. Both 4 stroke.
