    Copy nothing? The design looks like every fast fashion, minimalist, pastel product we’ve seen regurgitated over the last 10 years.
    There’s a reason we’re leaving ultra minimalism for more opulence, because people are rejecting it. We like design language and craftsmanship, individuality.

    • @lancefletcher2963
      @lancefletcher2963 8 дней назад +5

      That's one of the bizarre choices for me. Going all out on individuality and being unique - and giving what's a mass-producible, minimalist wannabe Bugatti for Gen Z new money in the SE Asian market.
      Even with more minimalist chrome accents or more interesting paint and lighting choices, they could've made this one more a winner. It's not necessarily a bad design - it's just too basic and disposable, after all the melodrama of the leadup.

    When EVs were becoming more and more popular, some car designers promised that we will see new designs that would be impossible with ICE vehicles. Yet almost every single EV looks like a huge brick and has so much space that you can at least put a V8 under the hood. In case of this Type 00, I have a feeling it could fit V16 with such long hood. For some time I thought that if EVs can't sound exciting, they might at least look cool, but as usual - reality is disappointing.

    • @lancefletcher2963
      @lancefletcher2963 8 дней назад

      That really seems to be how they're posittioning it. Check out the brand kit elsewhere. They've worked it into a D&G/Gucci style logo, and 100% they're planning on going the Mini/Indian/Jeep route and leaning into Jag as a lifestyle brand.
      Which would be great - if anyone since the Krays had associated Jag with being a lifestyle brand.
      But that was the whole point of the launch. They're trying to position it as an artsy/kitschy lifestyle brand, rather than the stogy, old-fart-gammon brand Jag's become over the years.
      Not a bad idea for them - but what a miss on the execution. You needed a fun, exciting car to do something like that. And here we have a couple of mockups for a PSX cyberpunk video game.

    If they had pushed this design as a villain-esque styling it could have worked, but instead they made it satin baby pink with a god awful makeup or yogurt brand JaGUar font that doesn't match. Show this thing in anthracite, high metallic black, hi chrome silver, or gold, and with a strong looking JAGUAR font instead and it would instantly look so much more fitting to the brand while still being new.

      That's kinda my take on it too - it would've been better to lean into Jag's caddish mystique for this one, because...just color choices and a few design quirks and they could've nailed it. Jag makes a much better villain than a Ready Player One hero.
      They could've even kept the 80s neon color scheme - just go darker and bolder. Black isn't going to do them any favors with the body though - it'll look like a black brick. It needs color to highlight the lines it has. A deep, deep neon pink pearl over an anthracite black, drop in some electric blue flake - and now you're talking. With those angles - pop a streamlined, minimalist leaper on the hood, and you've got a proper cyberpunk villain. In motion, it would look like a rolling, stylized oil slick. And that, the organic motion with those straight, hard angles - would look amazing.
      The font choice isn't bad - just also think the G is...well, it's certainly a choice they can make. I think they would've done better to just ball out with the 80s/90s idealizing and take the Prince route - lose the font in favor of keeping just a minimalist leaper. Immediately recognizable as Jag, but modernized and updated.
      The overall thing isn't terrible, just suffers from the worst sin of concept cars - it's boring, as its presented.

    I...don't hate it, as a concept/show car. The lines are vaguely reminiscent of the E type, it's got the greenhouse of an XJ, and it shares a lot of design language with the (fab) Caddy Sixteen, from some years back. The double taillight bar is a pretty interesting visual cue. Honestly, give the fenders a little more of that signature, skyward, Jag sexy curvature, a little more motion for the grille design, slightly round off the tops of the front fenders to give more motion, probably make those lower fogs a little more trapezoidal, and it's not a bad concept, if you ignore their marketing campaign for it and the brutal irony of "copy nothing," and ripping off the entire retrowave movement.
    The worst part is being anticlimatic, after all the internet wailing-and-teeth-gnashing bullshit surrounding the a - which was undeniably a success for Jag. More people talking about Jag today than anyone has in years. Even with the utterly brain-dead (in the way only car company execs can be) name of it. But even then, it reads visually as "what if the hero car of Miami Vice was a Jaaaaaag?"
    Which would be an interesting question - if the Tata execs laid off the coke and realized we're no longer in the 1980s.
    I like the idea of being a cyberpunk/anime inspired car vs. yet another boring, over-engineered, wind-tunnel "hypercar," wedgemobile. But this design needed much more time in the oven. This should be an early draft design for a concept car, not a final.

    • @sendingit2601
      @sendingit2601 8 дней назад +2

      I can appreciate the devils advocate behind this. BUT, they have created a bunch of bad press behind a product that a VERY small part of the population can actually afford. And they are targeting an even smaller part of that population that finds this even remotely appealing. I simply don’t find rage-bait for maybe a few weeks a success.
      My best friend currently has a f type, owned a xj, a xk and XKR. He has the money, and thinks it’s a shit move.
      Personally, (which doesn’t really matter) I think it would’ve been a great success if instead of ditching all iconic design cues of previous vehicles, they highlighted there past cars and there designs in this new car, and really leaned into a truly *villanious* jaaaaaaaagggg.
      But, instead they are targeting a rich, feminine, and lgbtq demographic. (I have no qualms with this demographic) but it is a crazy niche target.

    08:53 This is probably the core of the issue. The fact that they produced an advert for a car with no car in it really speaks to the fact that I don't think they have confidence in the design. I could be wrong but it just looks like some generic 'next gen' car that you'd see in a video game.
