My opinion as to why Brits are welcomed in America, not just tinsiltown, is because if your English and were born before 1980, you were educated to respect people, yourself, the law and appreciate lifes pleasures. Thats the difference between the modern English and the current exiled Americans.
L.A. is a beautiful place, especially in the northern part of the city. Almost everywhere you look there are hills, mountains, palm trees, cactus in people's gardens ( ! ) and when the morning fog clears to reveal that beautiful deep blue sky, it's a gorgeous sight. Add to that you're walking / driving around in the world's biggest movie set it makes it kind of exciting. A lot depends on where you're coming from though. I'm from a very grey, rainy city in England and grew up in the 70s watching Starsky and Hutch, Rockford Files, CHiPs and hundreds of movies shot in and around there and I always loved the blue sky and mountains. I got the chance to visit there for a few days last year on a dream 5 week holiday to California and loved every minute : - ) If you can get past all the "glitz and glamour" bullshit I think it's well worth a visit ; - )

I am a digital strategist and got flew in to Hollywood once for a celebrity event, yes it was fun and I got to meet a lot of nice people at this event at this celebrity home but, I was mostly affraid of the heights of those homes (Hollywood hills). I would not live there even if to work with a major celebrity. I spent 3 days and left very stressed out.
