My everyday carry for a few years now has been an Esee Izula in a neck carry configuration, along with a Case Trapper in my pocket. I found that the more simple I keep it the better.
Happy Birthday, Taylor! The only disagreement I have is about steel. My environment is always hot and always humid, and often salty too. So I do have steel preferences that have to do with the functional demands of my environment. I'll take 14C28N, 12C27, or N690 over almost anything else, because they are all very stain resistant, take great edges, and are easy to sharpen. In the supersteel department, Magnacut gets the nod over everything else, because it's so stain-resistant.
Speaking of small fixed blade knives, i bought a Boker lil friend micro and the more i use it the more i love it. It's a VERY small 440a fixed with g10 scales and kydex sheat, you can find it around 25€. Stupid cheap, takes a razor edge easyly, very small and light but is a robust 2.7mm full tang knife with a 30mm cutting edge. Once you are used to it, you can do almost all daily tasks (I also do some carving sometimes). People don't get scared when you use it in public. Most importantly, it won't break the bank. Check it out!
Having a UV light like the Olight Arkfeld makes a huge difference when charging glow beads or your watch face! Definitely need to try out those glownutz!
Great tips! If not allergic to bees, propolis is amazing. If you don't have that, just use honey, Menuka tends to be the fave. Definitely secure a knife in a sheath or some other device before tightening a lanyard/bead. Otherwise, use heavy gloves with metal mesh.
Happy Birthday Taylor! I might add to the knife section, since you are relaxing the supersteel wave, that a carbon steel contributes to the fidget factor by maintaining a nice edge and working patina, well, steel that is most likely found in fixed blades and slipjoints, and also gives you the vintage vibe in an urban carry
@BestDamnEDC Hey Taylor, I'm trying to find the 'quality' version of my knife. What would it be? I have an Eafengrow ef221, I know Eafengrow makes clones quite often. I'm not sure the ef221 is a clone. But if it is, what is it derived from? Any help would be awesome! Love the channel man!!
11:20 scandy grind knives is the way to go. For daily carry (Opening Amazon packages or cutting a thread on your clothes) I think it would be just fine. Most Knife makers hate to make them.
Scandi has its place, but unless you’re doing hard work day to day, it’s the worst grind for EDC. lol It’s a sharp wedge. I prefer slicier grinds for daily use.
Mr Martin, I thoroughly enjoyed this informative and entertaining video. Your energy level was great and I’m picking up a few of your recommendations. 🎉
If in the outback and short of first aid then pickle juice for burns is pretty good. For blade sharpening maintenance when the proper gear is missing or lost then use the bottom of a coffee mug to hone back to razor form. I also keep alcohol wipes in my wallet too.
As a person who put in the time to learn how to freehand sharpen, I totally agree with you about super steels. On the other hand I recently got some K390 and DAMN this stuff stays sharp forever 😆
Propolis is no lie the bomb. I make my own since we raise honey bees. But just the propolis alone with out the alcohol to make tincture you can put on cuts and such and it helps. Those in the Bee world call it bee glue as it is a sticky mess and what bees use to glue everything together.
for those wary of propolis, the NIH has a metastudy freely available online, and while most of the Supplement claims manufacturers make are under-studied (thus far lots of promising animal studies, fewer human studies), it looks like the anti-microbial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties ARE well studied, and it's pretty conclusively a good thing to have around for wound care. Better than other topical agents? I have no idea, and it doesn't look like studies have gone into that. But it's definitely not crazy to keep around.
A block of alum will stop bleeding within seconds. All you need is water, or virtually any other liquid in an emergency. We used Alum in oral surgery all the time. Propolus is great as long as you are not allergic to bees, and provided you didn't fail to tighten the cap so that it spilled or evaporated in your bag. If allergic to bees, it can be deadly. Not arguing, just offering an alternative. I like that glow bead for your knife. I could use one on the usb charging cable for my phone by my bed. Would eliminate fumbling around in the dark trying to find it and plug it in. THANKS for this video!
picked up some of that propolis stuff, I've never heard of it before but you don't seem like an essential oils cultist so I'll take your word and give it a shot
For the Lock Pickers! You can get a set of universal keys to all the different vehicle models, I had a car that the door key broke on and didn't have a second key. So I bought a universal keyset, and it was stupid simple to use in place of a key.
I backed the lookout on kickstarter and can’t wait to get it in my pocket. I got the Magnacut blade mostly for the tiger wood scales. Also don’t think you’re crazy about the tincture, mankind survived along time without medicine.
hey Mr. taylor are you guys going to get the blue titanium topo tuff clips back in stock i’ve just recently got into edc and i know im very late to the scene ( i actually just ordered my first flashlight today) but just wondering if you have a ball park on when you will restock those. thanks man!
As you know, I swear by the propolis tincutre. I have this stuff every where. My EDC med pouch, my truck first aid kit, my home boo boo kit. At the last fall gathering, I had a kid cut his finger on Friday which is the first day of the gathering. By Sunday it was pretty much healed up. The mother but three of the bottles.
As to the healing properties Of propolis i have no direect knowledge. I will tell you it makes a great wood glue and finish when mixed with a little charcoal and heated to apply. The bees use it like epoxy, so can we.
also every single brinks lock can be opened just by pushing a pick or shim past the pins and turn, it'll unlock it with out a tension wrench. they're very bad locks
Happy birthday man! Love watching your videos always learning something new to add to my kit! I am 99% sure the thing you call the jiggler is actually called a tumbler. Keep up the great work!
Some locks are called pin-tumbler locks (although most jigglers are wafer locks) but that tool is indeed a “jiggler” in the lockpicking world. - The guy who sells those lockpicks.
Your analogy comparing maintaining your knife to rotating tyres was not good......made 100% sense and could not think of a better way to explain to anyone.... 😁 well done
@@BestDamnEDC the sheath is a big deal too. Man I used the sheath that came with the Esee izula for a year. That fucker was uncomfortable. Don’t know why I did it for so long. Bought a kydex sheath from armatus last moth. Outstanding. Disappears even when I’m sitting. (PS I still remember the Todist videos. 😉)
My next video, "How a Bourbon Connoisseur, changed my bushcraft gear loadout" I did finally pick up so propolis last weekend, forgot to the last two gatherings, looking forward to testing it.
It's one of those things you don't want to have to test. But you'll be glad you have it when the time comes. lol and it won't do anything for that bottle cap sickness you had that one time 😂
PSA: check your local laws concerning lockpick tools. I have heard in some places they are considered burglary tools, and can get you in trouble if you are not a locksmith.
There goes every one’s crap that a master lock is protecting lol. I remember asking you if you actually used your lock picking stuff, looks like you upgraded your lock picking skills. Good job
The problem with glow beads vs tritium is that they don’t glow for very long and I feel like that makes them not very practical. They are only useful if you specifically charge them up before you need them and even then the glow dies out too fast.
That's definitely the case for some. The Glow Washers from Lumimod are like this. But the GlowNutz are ridiculously bright and still have glow in the morning if they're outside at all during the day
Taylor, Let's say someone wanted to dip their big toe into the lock picking 'pool', but hoped to spend slightly less than (or--rather--a price-slashing fraction of) the $116 gear you demonstrated. Familiar with any tight budget pick sets out there?
I’m the guy who owns Tuff Possum Gear (the company selling those picks he linked to). Check out our Lockpicking Starter Set, which is only $24 plus shipping. It has the same 5 lockpick profiles and 3 double ended tension wrenches, but it doesn’t have the fancy case (it comes in a telescoping drill bit tube) or the extra bypass tools. I am also fixing to have a couple of more budget friendly sets on the website in 2-3 weeks!
Nothing has ever been safe. Security is an illusion and the bad guys have been cutting locks, bashing locks off with a hammer, smashing windows, drilling out locks and lockpicking for hundreds of years. It’s only the good guys who are still left uninformed and need their eyes opened.
I know a ton of people do it, but to anyone who wears blades on their neck. Please consider the postion of this. I knew a guy who tripped and fell and his neck knife stabbed him in the chest. He was an older person and died in front of his grandkids. Just please consider how you wear tools.

Yup, usually vehicles that are often used in fleet applications like taxis, cop cars, or the like where it is handy to have all the same key.
Happy Belated Birthday, Taylor! Great video should some videos like this! You should do an updated pocket dump video.

It's also what makes a Stradivarius sound like a Stradivarius! Antonio Stradivari used propolis as an ingredient in his violin's varnish.
So I'll EDC pocket carry a folder (Griptillian) to be specific however I always keep a fixed blade in my EDC back pack (Mora Garberg) to be specific

Best 90 degree spine edc fixed blade ?

I've had same experience with my knife view when it comes to sharpening and steel choice.
These Bushcraft people know their stuff! Happy Birthday homie 😎
Apparently I burn myself all the time, what is the exact product used by Casey to heal the burns. Honey propolis mixture?
Exactly, I’ve got it linked in the description for you

You said those glow beads can work to see in a dark room. In your opinion what would be the comparison between those and an Apple Watch flashlight?
Smaller knife, not a steel snob, which is why I like the buck 112, not pro, not slim, nothing fancy. It’s already perfect

Fixed blade squad. I started carrying small fixed blades (almost) exclusively like a decade ago and have had zero regrets.

Fun fact: propolis is used as a pretty common folk medicine where I live

Yah, once I got a handle on how to properly sharpen and maintain an edge on a knife, the real concern for me is how corrosion resistant the steel is.
Same here 😂 I’ve rusted a lot of blades just by my own sweat in the summer.
