Price of a new 2023 KLR 650 here in the Northeast for $6,199. Been debating buying one for about 2 years. At least at 60 yrs old, I can hold onto my youth and still have fun with a on/off dual sport.
I’ve had a KLR650S for about 9 months. I like it quite a bit. The first thing I did was change footpegs. It’s a fun bike if you understand what you’re getting. It’s very simple and straightforward, not a lot of tech, not a lot of power, but enough of all of that to take you where you’re going. Good video, man!

I've had so many bikes over the last 25 years including Harleys, Moto Guzzis, Triumph, BMWs and Ducati.
I now own a Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT Adventure, and recently The Wife bought me a '23 KLR Traveler.
It is becoming my favorite bike. It's just so....satisfying.
If I was forced to have only one bike, no doubt I'll keep the KLR.
Love the KLR, I’ve owned many over the years… not great at any one thing, but good at about anything. One of the most reliable bikes in the world for sure!
We love ours and ride the heck out of them at Law Abiding Biker. We just upgrade the suspension and go. Great video Rikki.
Thanks for your thoughts on this great bike. I actually sold my year old Pan America for the simplicity, reliability, and great value of the KLR. It takes me back to the joy I had when I first started riding many decades ago. A great bike review from a dude who has given us some mighty great music!
Ricky, I'm digging the motorcycle stuff, something near and dear to my heart next to guitars and music, are motorcycles. I'm not sure rt now of my future, and if I'll be able to ride anymore. I have a spinal injury/condition from the Marines. I'm 16 major spinal surgeries in, I'm half titanium. I have another major surgery coming up, which will adjust alot of the hardware, and add some more. It's been hellacious 3 years, God awful pain, and can't walk unassisted rt now. 🙏🙏 this last surgery will get me better...it's gonna be a long rehab, almost learning to walk again, but I'm hoping to get some of my old life back again. All these things they don't show on Military recruiting posters or commercials, all the jumping, running, hauling heavy combat packs all over the world, come with a price.
I know your no stranger to tuff times w medical shit too, and you've inspired me, cause it gets dark in icu's and hospital rooms those long nights, and the fucking isolation this kind of shit puts you in. Sadly, people's lives go on, while your stuck fighting these not so fun things life can throw at you.
I miss riding, I've lost everything behind all this, my house. Cars, all my guitars n gear, and 2 motorcycles, it went to keep my girl and I with a roof over our heads, which I'm greatful for.
I'm trying not to sound all whiney and complaining, cz I'd still serve, sndcdo all the crazy shit I've done.

First world problems my friend. I spent 8 months in the in the Philippines and some of the things I saw they called motorcycles were absolutely innovative and some extremely dangerous but not once did I ever here anyone complain or act embarrassed about any of them. I have the 2023 KLR and it is freaking awesome.... heavy yes but awesome.... the problem you are complaining about is not so much underpowered but the gearing is wrong for what you are doing and your riding style... I hated mine the first two times I took it out in the dirt trying to ride it like my old dirt bikes... if you ride it the way it wants to be ridden instead of the way you want to ride it you will love it.... change the front sprocket to a 14 and you will like second gear and still have enough speed for the little bit of highway you say you do.... good video!!!!

Thanks for the video, as an old motocrosser I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this one and need to make a transition to something like this... Using 1st gear, thats really weird to me, I don't understand the gears on that. maybe add or subtract a sprocket tooth. You shouldn't even be able to use 1st. Maybe you could get rid of that with the sprocket and get back a lot of the power thats missing. I'd hafta find a combo like that or go with Suzuki motard, something? new subject for me like I said
Doesn't have much low end torque. That's why I was geared like that. yeah, people do change the gearing, but I don't own the bike so...
I ride that trail on the regular. I have a Yamaha Tenere 700. Me and and few buds are heavy into the ADV moto riding and camping. You should Join us.

Maybe after you install an after market chain tensioner, retorque the steering to a lower spec, and try to figure out the oil consumption issue. The factory is aware of all these problems.

whats wrong with the ABS? I like it, because it does lock up the rear tire just long enough to get her to drift. offroad abs I have ever ride. but, I thought it was great at getting into a slide. I wouldn’t ride that clutch like that. I would let her Chug she will tractor for you.
