  • Just out rambling on the KLR650. It's such a great bike to have in your arsenal of machines. Versatility, simplicity, and cheap! It really deserve the title of "The best side-chick". if you've contemplated buying a KLR or getting rid of yours, hopefully this provides another thought process on this bike. At the end i do an update Walk-around of everything i've done so far to this fun little motorbike. Enjoy!

After having ridden BMW GS off road for 35 years, the KLR has been a real joy.

It's also a good bike for riders that do their own service+repair and like to keep it simple. I'm awaiting your 70mph+ highway impressions 😊 with the fuel tuner. Thanks for adding your comments on that 😊 sounds great 👍

The sweet spot is putting your girl on the back, cruising down a country road looking at the foliage, pull off and take a little rip down a tree lined trail at 45OOish rpms.
Very comfortable bike and chick really dig klr's albeit not the same way we dig them. They have no idea why 😅

I sold a year old Pan America to buy the KLR. Simple, affordable, reliable, easy to self maintain, and lots of fun. I even tour on mine with a 16 tooth CS. I've had em all, and this is what I wound up with .....on purpose. I also love the fact that I am not spending $15-$25k any longer.

Nice! I was actually considering adding a pan america to my collection. However found a wonderful deal on a used FJ09 haha

One of the more relaxing intros I’ve watched, thank you! I’ve got a ‘19 RE Himalayan and a ‘21 V-Strom 650 XT-ADV.. Considering replacing the Himi, with 36K miles, and feel the KLR would fit well. On the Blue Ridge of VA.. I’ve miles of gravel backroads at my doorstep ..and accessible interstates, something for each ~

Good review, I traded my gen 1 for a gen 3 , living in Pa mountains and trails everywhere it’s great. Riding to the store or just a quick spin. I love the KLR for that reason.

I like the fact the Kawi kept the KLR a KLR. The fuel injection and ABS is a nice touch. If they added a second cylinder, 6th gear, more electronic doo-dads then it wouldn't be a KLR.
If I want all that I jump on my V-Strom 1050.
That being said, my 'Strom nowadays gets very little attention and very well may go up for sale.
I also have a Honda Ruckus which is a hoot to ride around on. The perspective of The Ride @30mph is pretty cool.

Agreed, and the old saying comes to thought. It's better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

If they added a 2nd cylinder and 6th gear, it would be a 800DE or TransAlp. I think it's good to remain different, to offer another option in the midsize ADV class.

I agree it's a great bike because it's good at everything even if it's not the best at anything. You probably wouldn't take a street bike through that field or around that construction site, right. Yet the mighty KLR can obviously do much more off road, and it's quite comfortable on the roads and highways. I did get 60 mpg on my last tank and was surprised, as I got 55.5 mpg on my prior tank. Now I'm wondering if I can get 65 mpg with a gentle throttle hand and more highway miles on the tank. Also, no wobbles and the wind screen seems very good protection to me. Was a pleasure watching your video.

What makes me sad is I bought mine last summer for the $7299.00 (traveler)plus all the fees and now they're giving them away 5000 or less, which makes them basically worthless if you do want to sell it. There's like 15 units at every dealer across the US. It must be the most over produced bike in recent history. But it is a pretty cool bike, no high-speed wobble on mine either, and I've been on the highway in the rain doing 84, seemed solid, and there's grunt to pass even at that speed(ok maybe a 1 car but still). Doing 50MPH on a two lane is way better than my Goldwing, the motor is at that sweet spot and the comfort is great( except that seat, too much rise. I took the cover off and cut some foam to flatten it, so much better). There's something to be said about the grunt of a Japanese 650 single off road, it's just good. But you nailed it! It's a good side kick. cool thanks

Yeah, the pricing is wild. Give it some time. Once the rebates go away, it will hold a little higher value.

I totally agree with you about the KLR 650. I just bought a new 2023 KLR 650 traveler this last week for $6500 out the door. I have a Harley-Davidson Heritage and I would never dare take it off the pavement. I used to have a Honda XL many years ago and since I live in Las Vegas and I wanted a bike that I can take in the dirt areas.
I’m now over 60 and no longer do crazy stuff on motorcycles and the KLR 650 should fit the bill for some off the pavement riding.

So, is this the first video with the fuel controller back? Last i heard, you sent it back because you had to fire up the bike 2x before it would start when using the controller. I subscribed to get a good idea of how well that fuel controller adds to the dynamics of riding a KLR.

    • @teages078
      @teages078  Год назад

Yeah unfortunately the problem persists. I'm not the only to experience this. However, I do believe there are fewer with cold start issues than without. I wouldn't let it steer you away from adding it. I'm in contact with a few ECU flashing companies in hopes to get some support and eliminate the external controller.

You may want to get into the habit of shutting her down with the Key, running the high beams and the fog lights all the time and leaving them on accidentally could run your battery down. By the way.. nobody has answered this, can you pop start it or is there a clutch safety cut off that needs to be unplugged or shorted? I don't want to hurt my valves pop starting.

It’s affordable…because it’s not the NEW thing. The tooling to make it and SALES IN THE THIRD WORLD => are why it’s cheap!
