In 1971 I bought my first camera.... a Konica Autoreflex T. Still have it, still shoot it, still love it.I recorded the story of my life with that camera and if it "auto-destructs" tomorrow, I will keep it until I die.

I really enjoy the education and knowledge of Mr. Woo and the history lessons about these brands. Thank you for sharing.

Another fantastic talk by Mr. Woo. I like Konicas, especially those metal heavy ones of T2 vintage. Back in 1984 I did purchase a brand new X-700 guided indeed by the European Camera of the Year award. Never regreted my purchase, lots of memorable pictures and memories of life. Along the way I gifted the X-700 to my cousin, but recently I reacquired another copy to get those memories back. Would love to hear an extended coverage by Mr. Woo of the Leica copy Japan made rangefinders. I am especially fond of Canon rangefinders.

My first camera was the Minolta X-300: a lower spec little brother of the X-700. It was excellent. I think every photographer should learn manual focus and a vintage camera is an ideal way to do that. It also removes the clutter and distraction of all the choices offered by digital cameras.
Thanks again to you and Mr Woo for the tremendous insights.

I grew up with Konica. My parents bought a Konica about 1961-ish. It might have been the FS SLR, but more likely it was the S rangefinder because they never used a light meter, and the S had one built in, while the FS did not. They always shot Agfa slide film. So I remember those Agfa colors, with the high contrast and striking reds that would pop, and the slide evenings every time there were visitors. In rural areas, before TV broadcasting came to our region, slide nights were considered to be very special entertainment. The Konica was considered exotic, and would be handed around so everyone could admire it.
It was a very different time to today.

First off, thanks to John and Mr. Woo for another great episode. Second, I'm the biggest Konica fanboy on the planet because the optics may be the most underrated in all of photography, and what I love about the Konica lenses is that they have an exquisite color palette that is slightly different than most other companies. In addition, the lenses are so good that even the cheap models are awesome, which you cannot say about most companies.

The X700 was my first real camera and I used it all through art school. Does Mr. Woo have other Minoltas? XE or XD types? I hear the XE series used tech that wound up in Leicas!

How about an episode about classic fixed lens compact’s like the Canon QL G17 III?

Mr. Woo mentions that he doesn't have an Auto-Reflex (half-frame) SLR yet. I found 3 examples on eBay from USA sellers!

I love my Konica's - I have the A3, T3, T3n, TC-X, and also the Hexar RF. The Hexar RF is the best film camera that I own. It's pro level and has advanced features that Leica fans could only dream about. All for 1/5th the price of a Leica M6.

One of my top 3 favorite cameras of all time is a Konica, the Pearl IV. Otherwise, I never like these 70s/80s Konica 35mm SLRs, because I couldn't become friends with the shutter priority system.

Are the Copal shutter more durable than the cloth shutter?

Mr. Woo: Still you must be using that Konica Autoreflex T3 (the one held together by rubber bands) very often. Wouldn't it be more convenient to use a Nikkormat , a Minolta SRT, or a Pentax instead?
