Hi everyone, think it's about time I make another comment. I wanted to produce the work and let people learn and grow from it so it was never my intention to be posting comments and responding to comments unless someone says something directly to me. Plus I obviously don't have all the answers. I'm only 20. I still have much to learn and experience. But anyway I decided to make this video after I graduated from high school. I had just come from a trip to Ethiopia and Ghana. As time goes on and more information becomes available, many black people, African Americans are becoming much more aware and proud of Africa and Africans and the resilience and ingeniousness of our ancestors. However, there are many black people who do not. Black people who want to disassociate with Africa and Africans...sometimes their blackness in general. On the flip side, there's many instances where Africans or West Indians will come to America and try to disassociate with African Americans, believing the problematic white media's lies and stereotypes...believing that we are the cause of our oppression. So clearly there's issues on both sides, but the point is that we need to educate ourselves. We have to stop letting people who don't even look like us tell us about ourselves and our history and our potential and the stories of black people around the globe. We have to learn for ourselves. Black people are being systematically oppressed GLOBALLY, even in majority black spaces because of the messed up government! So a lot of work needs to be done and media is a way for us to educate ourselves and unite across borders to liberate ourselves, mind, body and spirit. So those are my thoughts. That's why I made this video, to get an idea of what some black people in America thought about Africa and Africans and vice versa, to dispel stereotypes and come together. Cliché-sounding or not, it's what needs to happen. Btw I've made a documentary entitled On the Rise: Finding My Purpose. It premiered at the first annual National Black Film Festival in Houston this past April. It highlights four black parties who found something they're passionate about and made it their purpose by using it to positively impact their communities. It dispels the stereotype that young black adults are lazy and un-ambitious. It inspires and motives. And it's available to see on RUclips!! So please watch it and comment. I'd love to know what you all think. 💜
It's really white supremacist who brainwashed some black Americans to believe that Africans and Africa is a wasteland, but it's really the land of gold!
Keep on doing what you doing little sister positive black people will always love you. Love you baby. black lives matter to know the truth about themselves
Juliet Katakanya She made that distinction at the beginning of the video. The statement you may have seen toward the start of the video that read Africa is one big country' was an example she used to demonstrate some of the common misconceptions African Americans have about Africa. Directly after that statement she clarified that Africa is a continent composed of multiple countries.
I can relate. I am Ghanaian and when I moved to America the amount of ignorance was choking. People thought that I lived in huts and slept with lions. People thought that I was poor and got food from ngo's like okay. I was offended and explained to them that Africa isn't like that. There are poor people but the are people who live billionaire and middle class lives. We pay everything in cash there are hardly credit cards. I wish people knew more about Africa apart from war and being exploited by colonist
Naa Marbell i can understand how you brotha we black americans for years have bought into those negative stereotypes we growed looking at those racist tarzan movies being taught to hate africa and africans but we really were haiting ourselves like malcolm x said you cant hate the roots of a tree without hating the whole tree but i thank god i know better now that africa is a beautiful continent the richest continent with vibrant cultures and rich history not to mention beautiful cities like accra nairobi kigali abijan dakar lagos and that africa has great potential and jackie appiah my favorite ghanaian celebrity
Naa Marbell I am Nigerian living in Australia and till this day I still get asked stupid questions like how do you hunt and live side by side with animals.
Lamar A brotha youre 100 percent right they dont teach hardly anything about african history before the slave trade you have to do your own research if you want to learn to know and the media only show the negative side like boko haram el shabab n civil war in the congo im constantly telling my family n friends africa is a big beautiful continent with vast wealth n potential with 53 nations people live in cities an are educated an many people are doing well you cant believe the hype theres civil strife n poverty every where in the world they dont show apalachia on television n pretend all america is as poor as that region
South Africa population is half full of whites..that's why it more developed. You can't compare with other African countries that got their independence in 1940/50 while south Africa in 1994 if am not wrong.
Who is adding ghana as one of Africa's wealthiest nation, ghana is not in top 10 in africa but kenya and Nigeria yea they are Nigeria Egypt South africa Algeria These are africans largest economy accordingly.
I'm from Ghana,, a dark skinned gal,,beautiful and unique,,, I'm proud to be a ghanaian.. someone said in the comments that africa is a ''shithole'' well,,, at least that's ur opinon.. I love my motherland,, I live in peace and there is freedom.. I eat,, sleep without fear and am strong and bold.. I hope u feel that way in ur country.. #aproudghanaiangal.
Octavia Cryer I feel like I can officially celebrate with you... I'm black american so you already know my history... But I did find out the majority of my African is from Ghana... I am so excited to have people to connect to 😆
Selendria Muganogo wooow,, am proud you proud you from Ghana..am an african american too,,,but i live in Ghana for the time being.. This country is very peaceful and i couldnt have come from nowhere else..#proudghanaiangals.. Octaviacryer@gmail.com
Pockets 1980 africa is the most breath taking continent with all of the natural resources n mineral wealth that the world desires not to mention the most gracious people many times to their detriment africa isnt a shit hole many of its leaders are
Where in Africa? I’m currently in Africa. All countries have their challenges same with the western world. Overall, Africa is a beautiful continent and like other continents, it has it challenges
Just Emeka i agree fam every place in the world has good and bad sides western media somehow always emphasizes africas negative side but they dont highlight america or the western countries negative side but as an african american i recognize africas beauty its rich cultures n warm gracious people and its great potential and future god bless africa
And that’s a beautiful thing! It gives me joy when Africans are proud to be part of the whole continent. I’m very proud to say I’m African too! The risk with that, though, is that we also encourage the “Africa is a country” stereotype, and it stresses us out when they think we’re nothing but a large country filled with poor people. I do encourage you to first say you’re from Africa, but I also encourage you to include the country that you’re specifically from afterwards. We are a united people, but we do have unique identities that shouldn’t be tucked away. But please, continue being proudly African! God bless you!
I'm a black American and I identify with African culture. I wear traditional African garb and celebrate African customs. Much of our style and music as black Americans were derived from African influence. I never make the distinction between black American or any other variation of black. You are all my people. I plan to instill these ideas into my children one day because I want them to not only have an understanding of their history but a sense of self. Never be ashamed of your roots. They are beautiful so embrace them.
TRUE SPEECH. I agreed with you when you said " Never be ashamed of your roots. Julius Nyerere one time president of Tanzania once said. Do not be ashamed to be a black person. He went ahead to say," Unity will not make us rich, but it can make it difficult for Africa and the African peoples to be disregarded and humiliated. What this man meant was, without unity, there is no future for the black race.
TRUE SPEECH africa doesn't even have a culture, just cause u wear some african garb that resembles scrubs doesn't mean it's a culture. how can africa influence anything that most Black Americans or Latinos haven't even seen until recently. stop with all that africa influence and really go look at how the folks living. I promise you will change your mind
China has flooded the Photovoltaics market with cheap PV's, Tarrifs in Europe and the US made it prohibitively expensive to sell them there. Akon got a credit line to go into certain countries within Africa and take Solar to places which literally aren't connected to the grid (and it'd likely be very expensive to do so), whilst still trying to make money from the enterprise. Personally, i think African countries should look to at minimum jack up mineral taxes, and/or look to renationalize certain mines. But unfortunately too many countries in Africa are getting ripped off by European and Asian corporations, not to mention the rampant corruption. Don't get me started on the UTTER fraud perpetrated by the French Government of "CFA Franc"...outright fraud! Anyone who wants to do some research or a glimmer of how Africa is being looted , look up "Anil Agarwal Zambia", "Benny Steinmetz Simandou", "Dan Gertler Congo".....just some examples. The South Africans are going in the right general direction on certain aspects.
Am from Rwanda a high speed developing country. Most people from outside Africa and even some Black people, don't really know much about Africa and i think its their turn to study and learn more about Africa. Because i believe once Africa will again rise and become the strongest continent in the world as it used to be a long long time ago BC. THX
Hi, I'm from Nigeria and I really admire Rwanda , Kaigali (sorry if i spelt it wrong) to be exact. I think more Africans need to learn about Africa too.
before I die I must see Africa the only thing left to do to my African brothers and sisters please forgive us we only know what we were taught ALL WAYS SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH
Jerrod Cason, African Americans don't owe Africa No apologizes, Or them to us, Sir Just a reminder, White or anyone, But to lay dwn differences, And have some Understnding. Thanks.
Jerrod Cason africans love their fellow blacks en we dont care or mind where u comin frm or which tribe u r...wat we all kw is tht we r all blacks en all r africans either indian or black americans or arabs we r all africans..we r one pple one nation though we speak diff languages bt we do mind.its only whites who came to seperate us puttin boundaries to our lands en called us by white names en gave us a white God en made us believe in books tht r holy..thy brainwashed us en some of us forgot their african cultures th ways en beliefs...if u need more abt africans en african americans u cn ask me.i am an african en in sch we learn abt african en african americans en their origin...its quet unfortunate u african americans u dont kw ur ancestors or ur origin...i love u all my broz en sisz out thre😍😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😘😘😘😘😘
Nice vlog! Thanks for sharing. I’ve lived in Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa in the span of 4yrs and still present in Africa… In my experience the majority of the African people I’ve encountered have been friendly, yet also a bit judgmental and standoffish. They stick with their own kind, which I do admire, but in a way, it could make someone feel like the “odd man out”. Also, as an indigenous American, it has been a bit difficult to thrive career-wise in Africa. However, continental Africans can go to America, go to school there, work there, etc. Yet, "AA" can't go anywhere in Africa and thrive unless they're rich... It seems like a double standard to me.
Now cmon now u know Ugandans are the nicest pipo in the world. That’s ur experience but Africa is big with way too many countries u have only been to East Africa.
I am African American, I don't care what anyone says.. My roots are in Africa, my forefathers speak for me and not any other African my new adopted culture is North America by force. I have nothing but love and respect for most of my African brethern.. and yes i have lived in West, East and South Africa... We are not all stupid, just like in Africa, when a Kenyan Graduate student ask me if Jamaica was in Africa.. Not picking on kenyans or anyone, but you see ignorance is everywhere.. there's a lot of illiterate African Americans, however there are more illiterate Africans on the continent.
Lea Topcap here's how foolish you sound. DNA test can't determine much of anything when is comes to where your from. Top researcher have came forward and spilled the beans on the testing. They stated that they can only trace 0.01% of anyone's DNA back to a specific group. Meaning the test people have been taking are for entertainment purposes only. Also, Africa was never a real place. All you have to do is study old maps and hidden cultures. Its more of a description of an area meaning without cold or sunny. This planet has numerous places that fit that description. When you make claims that your African, you show a lack of knowledge and intellect which further puts you in a place of ignorance. Instead of being feed your information, try looking for yourself. A person who allows someone else to turn their stones over, misses out on the treasures that may be hidden under them. Turn you down stones.
My aunt went to america and she came back (we live in south African) and she said the ignorance of those people. But that's what her experience was about
Akon only gave solar power to his village, not the whole of Africa so he need to be specific, cus these Americans think there was no power there till he came along
honestly in this day and age you can't blame your ignorance of Africa on the media. You have the internet. There may be a lot of bullshit on the internet but you can also find facts. Just search whatever you want to find out about Africa and you will learn. Such a great resource that isn't being utilized by so many people unfortunately.
butlerbulldogs05 you are so right about that... I'm one of the ones using these tools to learn about my heritage... I dont listen to the world view on Africa, I do my own research so can't nobody tell me nothing about my people...
My vision of Africa changed dramatically when I went to study in The U.S. I studied with many Africans. They were so clever, classy and ambitious. I feel bad to say that I always saw Africa like a really poor continent. I had a friend from Ghana and another from Nigeria. She taught me sooo many things. They also taught me a lot of this from my own history, being myself a Dominican woman. I live in Spain but I really want to go there!
I’ve been to many African countries and saw so much beauty (no not just safaris). Ethiopia is probably my favourite because the landscapes are just insane and the culture was amazing to experience. I’d love to visit Madagascar and Mali! Along with many others
I’m in japan and me and my man get similar questions from people here about our countries also all the time . I’m starting so show my coworkers etc videos of Cape Town ( my hometown) and they can’t believe it’s Africa . My man is Nigerian.
It's so good to see these young brothers and sisters loving the Mother Land. I first got my view of Africa from watching Tarzan Movies and knew that they where wrong. I study Africa for myself and have Loved it and all Nations with a conection to Africa...
+Ras Mike 1st of all what type of African is calling himself "Ras"? That is Jamaican dialect/slang & an a Arabic word. Do you know how common it is for African immigrants to learn about slavery from White people whether its in America, UK, or a borrowed Curriculum from America. Its not a shock or surprise Africans do not have their own side.
first of im african/ethiopian..second ras is a title given to patriots or leaders of certain province back in the day in ethiopia. its not jamiacan nor arabic so get your facts right first!
I keep hearing blame placed on the government and media for not educating people. Educate yourself. that way you control the content and depth of your knowledge. If you wait for someone else, you only get what they want you to have.
Brian Reed I agree man. But I think initial anger is okay as long as a person doesn't stop there. I'm white, but I came to believe, based on several reasons, that the public school system is basically designed to brainwash kids into becoming government dependent statists/conformists. As long as a person turns their anger into productivity, it can be good. Fussing alone is just a slippery slope though
@@genesiskeglar6372 Or it could be the white flight, gentrification, red lining, job discrimination and the hundreds of blacks schools closing and underfunded. They close a school down and the nearest availablw school is so far you have to wake up at 3:30 to get to school by 7:40. Its like white people live in a fairytale land.
I just wanna say being born in America doesnt mean u aint African your skin your features do not contradict your origin i am proud to be an African and there is so much love in Africa I do not mean to offend anyone am not here to preach hate just wanna spread awareness
being born in America means you are an American. despite what your skin color is, where you are born determines what you are. You do no there are white people who are born in Africa and they would be considered Africans..
If u r born and Raised in America, what ties do u have to Africa!!! It means u r American, but ur ancestors are the ones who are African, because they were from Africa, born and lived there!
i didn't say you don't have ties to africa i just said you ar and American if you are born here, or a Mexican if you are born in Mexico, Australian if you are born in Australia, Etc
There is a difference between nationality and origin. Being born somewhere makes you a citizen of that country not a native. A white man born in an African country is not African as his culture, name, customs says otherwise. Afro-descents are different because they were forcibly brought into the Americas therefore it is difficult for them to be a native of another land as they have been here since centuries. If citizenship really grants the title of being an "American", blacks and brown skin people would not be oppress or discriminated against as no distinction would have been made.
So4ChunIT It works both ways.... There are African who know nothing about true AA history in this place.... But AA do need to educate themselves and their family on where our ancestors came from....
I walked into a african shop in the 90's and this african man was watching the stories. I was shocked out of my mind. I stammered it looks like a city over there!!! He laughed at me. My gov doesn't show us these things only the poor an starving. I learned in 2016 that the riches man in the world is a black african. That is taught nowhere in the states. no where in the schools as far as I know
@Harold, The Talking Tree Iam almost 60 years old. This was not taught so much in school but the ads that were on television brain washed a majority of americans into believing that their were mostly starving an poor people in africa. Seldom did you see any posperity. In the late 90's they started showing africa with modern cities
Mansa Musa of the Mali empire was the richest man in the world. Most African Americans don't research, they are just ignorant and clueless. I live in West Africa, Sierra Leone, and I've never been to rural area in my country. Most people out here live better than most people in the west😁
@@josejagz1190 I just getting back to you. It's not about ignorance or not studying 🙄 when you live and are raised in a country that there only a few black billionaires and you seldom hear about black billionaires outside your country. There is no concept or inkling that the riches man in the world was an black African The one who should have advertised it WAS AFRICA YOUR PEOPLE!!! WHY DIDN'T AFRICA INFORM THE WORLD THAT WOULD HAVE BE AMAZING KNOWLEDGE!!!
The Continent is on my list of places to visit. My daughter just moved to Benin. When I think of Continental Africans, I don't have just one thought. The people are as diverse as my opinions. I have very close friends from the Continent, and they have shared some beautiful experiences with me. I view them as my long-lost cousins, and I feel a sense of kinship with them. I will be visiting my daughter soon and, while there, we will head west through Togo, Ghana, and Ivory Coast - the place from where, according to the records, my grandfather was kidnapped centuries ago.
The first thing I did when I finished college is saved some money and travel in various areas of Africa, seeing tribal life, urban life, village life and making friends with my peers.. Re educate my life and existence perspective... To me brought up in the west, going to Africa is not a luxury, but really essential as a ( part) black person.. Black people of the western world have an emergency, if they have not been to anywhere in Africa, and spend some time there.. I have only spent 6 months there on two occasions and is not enough. How can you respect the black identity of someone when they have no inclination to want to go to a black continent, created for black people, by black people ?
Maybe African-Americans should take their skills and education down to the continent and help rebuild! I love West Africa; Nigeria and Ghana. Buying a home in Lekki, Nigeria.
Young City Bandit well, africa is not any other continent. We have a sense of pride due to our history, resources and culture. Not that other continents have no pride, but its more national pride e.g. asian culture is completely different like when comparing india to china or iraq. They are completely different. But i can compare tanzania to Zimbabwe, both on far sides from eachother (east africa and south africa). although the culture is different there is a lot that can be related such as words...shona people of Zimbabwe have similar words to swahili
Young City Bandit i can also compare dancing from my black American brothers/sisters to traditional tribal dancing, the same with my carribean bros/sis.... I can talk forever on this
This is a good start...a good way for both sides of the Diaspora to get a grip, and to move forward stronger together and unified. It will take time to undo the damage from European interferences of slave trade, mis-communication, colonialism, racism, religious divides, etc. We all need to broaden our minds through cultural exchange and study of current events throughout the Diaspora. Education from an Afrocentric perspective is key to de-program. The cultural divide even amongst "Blacks in America" makes this video's focus on them most needed. America and Europe have a way of sucking most of Africa out of the souls of who it deceives. Now this generation is traveling to Africa and will spread the truth with help from technology to speed up the process...hope my brothers and sister. South Carolina, USA
Africa is a huge & beautiful continent. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Africa is snow! The first time I saw it was when I was living in Algeria (I was a teenager) in a city called Tlemcen. It snows there every winter. It is truly beautiful. I think only few people, in the whole world, know about it. Africa, diversity is thy name.
I'm black American and proud of it. I'm also proud of my West African and Western European Roots. I'm part Cameroon but not enough to tell physically. I can't necessarily go to Cameroon and say hey guys I'm home! I'd love to visit though but my home is America. It's where my history is. Where the memories of my parents and grandparents are. My great grandparents were also born here. I have roots in Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivey Coast, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Ireland, France and even parts of Asia. I don't look down on Africa. I admire it as the mother land it is but it's not home and you can't fault me for that.
Thats were your wrong sis. Regardless of your complextion and features if you visit africa you see people that look like you. There are many looks in Africa, they will only know your American when you speak or from how you conduct myself.
Liberia is the country that took in the Black Americans way back when. It was a struggle for those folks and I met a decedent of that back to Africa Movement here in Ghana recently. She was very proud to be Liberian but she also teaches at an HBCU in Texas. The thing is when she said she was Liberian I asked more about the language and she said they speak English. I then said that's right there were Black Americans that traveled there in which one became president. Once I showed interest she revealed that info to me. Its good to take time out to research because you never know and African People know all the American History all the Canadian history etc. We as Americans have to become knowledgeable on our own.
That's why I think it is important for us to create, show, and promote positive images of Africa. We should seek out media content that show Africa in a positive light and hold these major media entities, starting with the black owned and black serving ones, accountable for what they show and don't show. Let them know there is interest in other narratives.
Why are they only talking to African Americans ony when they did the slave trade they did not drop off slaves in america only black Americans are not the only blacks in this country what about black Latinos black Caribbean people why cant you interview us also
I'm African born in Africa....I think Afro American have culture but not too different to African culture... very very great but based on their African original culture.... They have shared our culture in their arts maybe with something of Europe but massively African....it is the same in all America... They show to the world that black people can do and be the best... The only difference between us is the development level....and the propaganda by whites people who want our destruction!.... Today I will be proud to see much more afro American people of course African African also invest in Africa and being rich here... It is bad to see how white people can be rich in and by our land more than us!.... African American are for me the best in America... Maybe the don't have the biggest and highest politicals status but they make us proud to be black and to work hard for a real peace, development and many others!
metalhead 93 Pfft, you were lied to your whole life. All your lies are now coming to light. People are now beginning to see the extent that you will go through just to portray your self. Now tell me that European houses were made of gold and diamonds in the 14th century, not to say that in those times you were being ravaged by your filth with the bubonic plague.
most of them are first generation Americans and still don't care about their homeland. only time it matters to them is when the issue if cultural appropriation comes up then start spitting googled facts about the continent. I am Korean and have lived in Lagos, Abuja Nigeria. Right now I live in Johannesburg SA. I probably know more about this beautiful continent than most African Americans do
william overton behind it all is the system of white supremacy which is called apartheid in Africa. Same system, different name. It's a known fact that Europeans created ghettos and push poor people of color into them and sometimes white people too only to give one the illusion that poor white people are going through the same thing black people are going through but poor white people are just casualties of War under the system of white supremacy. I look at poor white people the same as I do rich white people. There's no difference. They both are capable of practicing white supremacy.
Great conversation to begin. I was very pleased to run across this video. Let's do better than poking fingers at each other: African Americans are not the only people who are misinformed about Africa; my fellow African colleagues do NOT know much about Africa either. They know little to NOTHING of the transatlantic slave trade. To know about your local culture is NOT the same as knowing about the continent of Africa. Africa is huge and full of rich, ancient cultures and modern people who are facing the future with confidence and pride. The comments section here lazily falls back on hackneyed stereotypes and it is counterproductive. The current generation of African Americans doesn't have the same negative views of Africa as our parents who had so little truth and information at their disposal, so let us stop playing on the tired tropes of African Americans thinking Africa and Africans only diseased, impoverished and destitute. We need to move beyond that nonsense that Europeans have perpetuated and instead work together by investing in places in Africa that are primed and ready to lead and not just follow. Africans all over the world need to pull together and work for the advancement of African people worldwide. It pains me to death as I travel from country to country to see Africans on the street and they turn their heads and look away; what's with that? It's funny, but for all the "motherland" talk we African Americans share, the only black people I end up talking to for more than a quick hello on my travels are other African Americans (AAs), although I have learned that black folks in general will quickly smile and return a hello if one is initiated by me. My fear is that the pendulum has swung to the other side and AAs have been fed this romanticized, idyllic version of Africa, which is also not true. Disease, poverty and destitution do indeed exist on the continent in vastly larger proportions than those found in North America or Europe---however, let us not be smug in announcing such. Truly, all these things can be found the world over, and there is very little good in simply mentioning them without any effort in solving the problems. Anyway, can we get a forum someplace on FB or something to facilitate a forward movement?
Exactly, I don't understand how it becomes a verbal confrontation over the internet when The bottom line is we all in the diaspora know our roots began in The Mother Land, and it is up to us to go experience the beauty, real cuture, food, music, dance for our self, and not believe what the media portrays it to be
Desert Lotus You are absolutely right, one thing I know to be true is when we talk and teach positive continuously more and more of the African diaspora will do research learn what has been lost or stolen, and what's going on today and grow closers have pride etc. We don't need others to teach the African culture to Africans, when we learn from one another in and out of Africa we can pull what we have achieved every where and build on it for the mother land, cause yes all others take and take from the African diaspora still today,it makes them happy why can't we be happy. The African way without outside influence is the right way,all others have proved that,we don't have to.
Amber D. Hey sis---sorry for the near year delay. I somehow didn't see these. We're you able to make a group somewhere or come up with an idea to bring something together? I'm now living and studying in Europe and will come home (California and Georgia) for a visit this summer. The struggle is real, and so are we! ✊🏿
I'm an exchange student in Michigan and I had a hard time when I knew that some African Americans tried to stay away from me because I'm from Africa. This just tore my heart. It was so hard! I struggled a lot because I felt like everybody was trying to explain everything to me because they thought I did know it (How to turn the TV on? ( we have TVs in Africa). I just wanted to be friends with them and know about them. It was so hard at the beginning but I stopped blaming myself or feeling bad because of that and just said to myself that I was not what they think I'm and if they are dumb enough for thinking that way, It was not my fault. I learned how to deal with people that asked dumb questions about my continent and simply answered their questions with respect. Then I realize that I was not the dumb person. Love this video!!! You are doing a great job!
Africa is a beautiful continent which has different beautiful places! I love my people no matter what four corners of the world we're in! We as a people should become more unified! Stop the divisional tactics of the devil ! Shalawam
Am from GHANA and me and my family are doing really good thanks to the natural resources in Africa. I see hundreds of thousands of dollars every single day and have possessions most of these Americans and African-Americans don't have. I think some African-Americans lack respect and values, some are ignorant about their roots and hence they look down upon Africans though we are all one people but separated by slave trade.
Bawa Mohammed Awal People like to portray all Americans as "well off" but dont be fooled there is millions of poor people here. You are right I have seen many Africans from different countries living better than many Americans i know. Everywhere has rich, poor and in between and the countries of Africa are no different. Anyone who believes a whole continent is poor is very uneducated. AAs have been ignorant by force for a long time but the worse thing they could have done was give us the internet. Knowledge at our fingertips and ways to speak to people we couldnt have without it. i feel we are becoming more aware and future generations will be more knowledgeable. just my opinion.
No...... white supremacists constantly show Africans living in huts made from animal dung and constantly starving to death. .. WHITE SUPREMACISTS are to blame for this, not Black Americans. When Africans come here, the only time you all fully associate with Black Americans is when you are selling us something.
+108609844426866552238 wooow,,like you corrected him? you dissed him dear..that was bad..there is soo much hate going on here and I wish you and I can help promote love,,you attacked him without correcting him..i love my black men,,they gorgeous and sweet...i would have stuck up for you if he came at you, believe me..when it comes to my African or black men,,i don't choose,,but I can't let you disrespect him for making a mistake..Am sorry I dissed you,,I got pissed.
+111086024851384933545 no darling,,am not even a believer..but I know right and wrong...I even apologised to him, so I don't know what you talking about.. @ BONEFACE,,where do you reside?
It is a great feeling seeing young people think like those in this brilliant video. Africa belongs to ALL BLACK people throughout the Universe. Unite in One Love...to build and develop your Mother/Father Land...Herein lies your Future!
Im planning on a trip this yr to Ghana, and in all the videos I've watched, the american ex-pats have nothing but good things to say about living there. The American ex-pats talk about the ups and downs but overall good things to say, and also mention how well they were received by the Ghanaian people. Personally i cant wait to go.
Good stuff.
It's really white supremacist who brainwashed some black Americans to believe that Africans and Africa is a wasteland, but it's really the land of gold!
Great Video Much Respect !!
💯💚💛❤️
Keep on doing what you doing little sister positive black people will always love you. Love you baby. black lives matter to know the truth about themselves

Please don't represent our CONTINENT AS ONE COUNTRY, AFRICA IS A CONTINENT
Juliet Katakanya She made that distinction at the beginning of the video. The statement you may have seen toward the start of the video that read Africa is one big country' was an example she used to demonstrate some of the common misconceptions African Americans have about Africa. Directly after that statement she clarified that Africa is a continent composed of multiple countries.
Am sorry if I misunderstood really
Juliet Katakanya no problem at all...happens to the best of us.
Juliet Katakanya
calm down take your time and read. 1 africa, 1 nation, 1 people, how does that sound?
Elvis Ameb dude are you talking about the whole of Africa or just your country.
Naa Marbell unfortunately that's what these white people teach in their history classes or any topic about Africa/Africans.
Dont be offended. why should you care about people who are insignificant.
they always show Ghana Nigeria and Kenya never show other countries
thegigadykid1 cuhz the rest are poor
Some of Africa's wealthiest nations
Omari Monyé Truth III not as wealthy as Mauritius Seychelles or develop as South Africa
South Africa population is half full of whites..that's why it more developed. You can't compare with other African countries that got their independence in 1940/50 while south Africa in 1994 if am not wrong.
Who is adding ghana as one of Africa's wealthiest nation, ghana is not in top 10 in africa but kenya and Nigeria yea they are
Nigeria
Egypt
South africa
Algeria
These are africans largest economy accordingly.

Proudly Kenyan 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Me too!!👍yay❤️
I am so proud of being african and i always tell people i am from africa when they ask me instead of saying what country specifically....
Fuck Africa🖕🏽
The only people that will try to have you state your colonial origin, are Americans really.....
Samuel Williams That is one of the best states I have heard.
TRUE SPEECH
africa doesn't even have a culture, just cause u wear some african garb that resembles scrubs doesn't mean it's a culture. how can africa influence anything that most Black Americans or Latinos haven't even seen until recently. stop with all that africa influence and really go look at how the folks living. I promise you will change your mind
Yudah El he has to start somewhere and the clothing is a great influence to want to understand more.
TRUE SPEECH lol yall folks have much to do because someday u might just need to go back home.(roots)
Akon did not connect Africa with solar he is working with a specific country,
Just one community in Africa. My city alone has thousands of people richer than Akon. Who the fugg is AKON
Poultry uganda Bamboo specific village in a specific country 😂
He's in at least 5 countries right now. Solar power

Most people from outside Africa and even some Black people, don't really know much about Africa and i think its their turn to study and learn more about Africa.
Because i believe once Africa will again rise and become the strongest continent in the world as it used to be a long long time ago BC.

Hi, I'm from Nigeria and I really admire Rwanda , Kaigali (sorry if i spelt it wrong) to be exact. I think more Africans need to learn about Africa too.

Not really though...the rich rule the poor...it's the rule of the world in any country except iceland i guess...
@Julian Clarke 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Another person who believes the 400 years of slavery story I see? You have been played!!! Try picking up a real book, preferably in Spanish.
I agree brother. Me too. We are stolen Africans.
We accept and love you!!! Yessir

My aunt went to america and she came back (we live in south African) and she said the ignorance of those people. But that's what her experience was about

That's bullshit
The perception is just a sad situation.. or rather maybe one could say its funny..
stacey jones Nah his giving it to Africa
honestly in this day and age you can't blame your ignorance of Africa on the media. You have the internet. There may be a lot of bullshit on the internet but you can also find facts. Just search whatever you want to find out about Africa and you will learn. Such a great resource that isn't being utilized by so many people unfortunately.
butlerbulldogs05 True.
butlerbulldogs05 you are so right about that... I'm one of the ones using these tools to learn about my heritage... I dont listen to the world view on Africa, I do my own research so can't nobody tell me nothing about my people...

There is no excuse for how ignorant ppl are about africa !!! They need to educate tf outta themselves
Powerful I like what the one guy said "it's going to take more than pictures" thank you for what you are doing to change the narrative.
So good to hear our young people FINALLY talk about this. "They" have divided us TOO LONG!! 1 Afrcia, 1 people❤
The future really is in Africa👏👏👏💖
I’ve been to many African countries and saw so much beauty (no not just safaris). Ethiopia is probably my favourite because the landscapes are just insane and the culture was amazing to experience. I’d love to visit Madagascar and Mali! Along with many others
I’m in japan and me and my man get similar questions from people here about our countries also all the time . I’m starting so show my coworkers etc videos of Cape Town ( my hometown) and they can’t believe it’s Africa . My man is Nigerian.
Japan is very racist but so advanced.
It's so good to see these young brothers and sisters loving the Mother Land. I first got my view of Africa from watching Tarzan Movies and knew that they where wrong. I study Africa for myself and have Loved it and all Nations with a conection to Africa...
I live in Nairobi and other parts of Africa and what I have noticed is they know there culture but not there history .
culture n history are interwoven..so if they know thier culture they know about thier history. n most africans know thier history very well..
+Ras Mike then y most of them have never heard of the slave trade on the west or have no oral history
+Free Lance what makes u think they never heard of it?..im african was thought in school bk in africa
+Ras Mike
1st of all what type of African is calling himself "Ras"? That is Jamaican dialect/slang & an a Arabic word. Do you know how common it is for African immigrants to learn about slavery from White people whether its in America, UK, or a borrowed Curriculum from America.
Its not a shock or surprise
Africans do not have their own side.
first of im african/ethiopian..second ras is a title given to patriots or leaders of certain province back in the day in ethiopia. its not jamiacan nor arabic so get your facts right first!
I just wanna say being born in America doesnt mean u aint African your skin your features do not contradict your origin i am proud to be an African and there is so much love in Africa
I do not mean to offend anyone am not here to preach hate just wanna spread awareness
being born in America means you are an American. despite what your skin color is, where you are born determines what you are. You do no there are white people who are born in Africa and they would be considered Africans..
If u r born and Raised in America, what ties do u have to Africa!!! It means u r American, but ur ancestors are the ones who are African, because they were from Africa, born and lived there!
Joel Jorgensen your surname doesn’t say that
i didn't say you don't have ties to africa i just said you ar and American if you are born here, or a Mexican if you are born in Mexico, Australian if you are born in Australia, Etc
I won't lie African Americans really need to educated.....
So4ChunIT thank u
So do Africans. Everyone needs to be educated because the issue is no one knows anything about each other outside of what we see on television
So4ChunIT They probably know more than others. If you did this in other places around the world you would hear a lot worse.
I think Africans needs to focus on Africa and quit calling us African American, because we aren't African
That is taught nowhere in the states. no where in the schools as far as I know
Rita Robinson ee
Mensa Musa of Mali is the richest man in history
Have you been to non black africa?
Wow! Such a powerful video Summer; i loved every bit of it and thanx for sharing.
Maybe African-Americans should take their skills and education down to the continent and help rebuild! I love West Africa; Nigeria and Ghana. Buying a home in Lekki, Nigeria.

Young City Bandit stop what?
slam2dunkz63 The we are one bs. Why is this only in africa? Does every other continent have this mentality?
I can talk forever on this
Guy in the Norway 🇳🇴 shirt is speaking the truth. Facts 💯
Now this generation is traveling to Africa and will spread the truth with help from technology to speed up the process...hope my brothers and sister.

most Africans know nothing about Africa. I am from Nigeria and 90% don't have a clue nor do they care. so what's the big deal

You're 100% true, most Nigerians don't care about Nigeria and Africa, they don't care about their history, or improvement
#Seun Emmanuel talk about yourself I'm Nigerian myself i do care
Ay Okz You're in the minority.
The people living in Nigeria don't seem to care because they're just trying to get money to survive and take care of their families.

Whites don't wanna see black Americans and Africans coming together not good for them
Beautiful scenes of nature always pop into my mind. Africa is rising this century. Damn cool to see.
It's encouraging that young African-Americans, in general, are much more aware of Africa than they were 30 years ago.
Great video thanks for posting
My heart goes out to you.🇲🇾
Why are they only talking to African Americans ony when they did the slave trade they did not drop off slaves in america only black Americans are not the only blacks in this country what about black Latinos black Caribbean people why cant you interview us also
most Latinos don't consider themselves us black..and no one is gonna interview on people who think it's curese to been called black..

Dude with the 'Norway' t-shirt 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. He's telling the truth
Maybe the don't have the biggest and highest politicals status but they make us proud to be black and to work hard for a real peace, development and many others!
metalhead 93 dangerous??? I'm sure you're white! So I'm not surprised...
Very nice comment Pele Elele. I really appreciate positive comments like that.
metalhead 93 where is you problem on friendship between Afro american and African? If you're not satanist
metalhead 93
Pfft, you were lied to your whole life. All your lies are now coming to light. People are now beginning to see the extent that you will go through just to portray your self. Now tell me that European houses were made of gold and diamonds in the 14th century, not to say that in those times you were being ravaged by your filth with the bubonic plague.
You are still fixing Europe coz it still looks like shithole to me. Eastern Europeans are so poor, they remind me of my village people in Africa
most of them are first generation Americans and still don't care about their homeland. only time it matters to them is when the issue if cultural appropriation comes up then start spitting googled facts about the continent. I am Korean and have lived in Lagos, Abuja Nigeria. Right now I live in Johannesburg SA. I probably know more about this beautiful continent than most African Americans do
weeeeeed inn my mind.... ummmmaaahaa for this video!!! awesome brother
The made me cry! i love it! I'm Ethiopian/African
Yebo, I am Afrikaner...LOVE my home!!
Ja my bru
if you look at Africans they have nice cities divided from poor ones like all places.
william overton behind it all is the system of white supremacy which is called apartheid in Africa.
Laughed at "Peace, Love, Freedom"
I just want to appreciate the work of this girl, keep it up. 🇰🇪
The brother is so right, those who say don't go to Africa are those who want to take Africa and the resources. Great video keep on doing more and more.
Excellent points! I concur 100%, please see my comment to blackdog90 about this.
Anthony Stewart yes I wholeheartedly agree! I'm trying to do something similar reach out to me!
Amber D. Hey sis---sorry for the near year delay. I somehow didn't see these. We're you able to make a group somewhere or come up with an idea to bring something together? I'm now living and studying in Europe and will come home (California and Georgia) for a visit this summer. The struggle is real, and so are we! ✊🏿
"Africa is one big country"
Me: AHAHAHA IT SURE IS ONE COUNTRY MHM YEP
Like this video. People are very informed.
People talking about how hot it is yet here i am feeling very cold with socks and two jackets on sleeping covered in two blankets😂🤦🏾♀️
How cold is it in whichever country you're at? Some people say 15 C is cold and I'm just like, you don't know cold lmao
Wish I could go to Africa I love my people....🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I will love to take you to Africa am i live in Europe my email bossgbana@gmail.com

Great video! Great interviews! I love Africa!
People from Africa are more knowledgeable...I'm from Zimbabwe and so proud to be an african
"I LOVE AFRICA"
I was a hostage in the Americas?
Kiki Brooks you are very right my brother
No...... white supremacists constantly show Africans living in huts made from animal dung and constantly starving to death. .. WHITE SUPREMACISTS are to blame for this, not Black Americans.
When Africans come here, the only time you all fully associate with Black Americans is when you are selling us something.
The only time Africans in America try to associate with BLACK Americans is when they are trying to sell us something.
Because of White Supremacy in America, we are not taught our history.!!!!!! What are you all taught about Black Americans in Ghana?
Man in the Norway shirt is so o point ... I'm african and I'm living in the continent right now an I see what he said on a daily basis

Adisa Bamba Kunta Thank you 😊
Im planning on a trip this yr to Ghana, and in all the videos I've watched, the american ex-pats have nothing but good things to say about living there. The American ex-pats talk about the ups and downs but overall good things to say, and also mention how well they were received by the Ghanaian people. Personally i cant wait to go.
Good Job Summer!
Tonya Dorisca Thank you!!
