Fell in love with altered images in 81 thanks to the late great John peel .Scotland produced & continue to produce some of the finest bands ever & altered images were just one of many. Gold dust upload Alan thank you.
I've always liked creative bands. I first head them only a couple years after the came into the charts in the 80s and they blew me away. Awesome pop music.
Amazing to see the people behind such a wonderful time-capsule of music. I've never stopped listening to them, and I live 6000 miles away from Scotland.
GAWD, I had a major school teen crush on Clare when I first learned of ALTERED IMAGES with the first song I ever heard of theirs ,”Happy Birthday”…from one of my all-time favorite films from my high school era “Sixteen Candles”. Once I as able to get more info and 45’s from them( Being in Hawaii it was tough to get music of artists I truly loved…since Americans weren’t into bands/artists East of the Caribbean islands, fans of bands like Altered Images, Kate Bush, Madness(besides “Our House”), Eddy Grant, Peter Gabriel(prior to “Sledgehammer”)…David Byrne/Tina Weymouth/Chris Frantz/‘Heads/Tom Tom Club among some of them I loved, it was really tough to get in new(or older) material from these artists. It’s one of the handful of reasons I like iTunes…RUclips…etc.
Kaleidoscope yes I agree as Robert Smith from The Cure was their guitarist and was heavily into bright Flange effects with delay and chorus pedals as were Altered images. JUJU for me not as much as Ex Magazine guitarist John Mcgeoch was the true innovator of the whole post punk movement his style was definitely imitated but not so much by Claires guitarists.
@@SuperBroonie yes John McGeoch was the guitarist on Kaleidoscope (1980), Juju (1981) and A Kiss in the Dreamhouse (1982) , Roibert Smith was only in The Banshees for one year joining in 1983 to replace McGeoch and Robert played on one live album Noctune (1983) and one Studio album Hyaena (1984) then returned to his full time work with The Cure and was replaced by John Valentine Carruthers who went on to play on The Thorn EP (1984) and Tinderbox (1986) , if you listen to early Altered Images like Dead Pop Stars or any of the songs on the Happy Birthday album other than the title track there are definite Siouxsie vibes (in fact The Banshees gave Altered Images a support slot on their Kaleidoscope British tour of 1980. , if you listen to songs like Insects, Legonaire, Leave Me Alone etc then you can hear Siouxsie was a strong influence on Altered Images earlier incarnation also check out Altered Images - Peel Session 1980 as well as their 1981 Peel Sessions and you'll hear Siouxsies influence all over those tracks, for better or worse , stylistically the bands music went an entirely different direction by the second album, a lot brighter and more upbeat on Pinky Blue and then somewhat surprisingly more dance/disco oriented on Bite, all three albums were distinctly different other than Clares voice which is unmistakably unique not unlike someone like Feargal Sharkey of Undertones . personally i would loved for Altered Images to have stayed their original course a bit longer, but love all three albums for what they are and wish the band had lasted longer. if youve never seen the episode of Father Ted with Clare i recommend it, its called "Rock-a-Hula Ted" (series 2 episode 7) and features her in a thinly veiled parody of Sinéad O'Connor and she is perfect in it
A Cool report about an underrated Scottish band with a cute bubbly humble female lead singer to me she paved the way for lead female indie rock bands like the darling buds the primitives yeah yeah yeah the list goes on that video should have been the happy birthday video thanks AI wish you guys would still be together ✌✌✌✌
Remember who gave them their 1st big support slots tour drum kit and guitar. Female fronted Siouxsie and the Banshees the true pioneers of female fronted alternative music. Claire Agrees ❤
If these are demo versions of Happy Birthday and Pinky Blue, I want them! I know this band has unreleased material in the vaults but not one stitch of it has been put on any of the countless reissues. We need some deep diving on this catalog.
Great upload. Really enjoyed that, thanks. Wee bit before my time, I didn’t start going out in Glasgow until mid 90s. What’s the venue AM are interviewed in? Obviously I knew of Clare and Johnny M in the band but one of the other faces was familiar so I looked it up. It was Jim McKinven latterly of One Dove I recognised! Also a young Jim White getting away from the sports desk to ask the questions.
She’s gorgeous ❤

So softly spoken, but such a powerful voice.
Legendary Band.... Love this group and seen them 4 times live.... AWESOME.... PERIOD... 😊❤❤❤
So talented & so young what could've gone wrong? ❤God bless Altered Images🙏

Great band from the 80.s with a beautiful lead singer ❤

Me too! I've been a fan since the early '80s. Come to Los Angeles, we'll hang out😁🎵🌟
Thank God it has changed in Glasgow since then!!

Always thought of their first album as the light/yin to Siouxsie and the Banshees “Kaleidoscope”/“Juju” dark/yang.

Ahhhh Titch the drummer i always loved him right from the start... so honest and modest

For sure. And she didn't have the need to "rule the world".
How is a bad that had top hits and sold zillions of records be considered underrated ?

Amazon has a Altered Images " Happy Birthday " C/D on the way to me. Happy Birthday!!
A great upload. Thank you
Can I ask. Where did you find the RUclips video at? Seeing a lot of views but not sure where from.
Fancied clare grogan like crazy
The best of the early 80’s
Yes, this definitely was 1981. Interesting video. And Clare GROGAN looks so cute
👍🏻
Krissy Kochanski, really hope Dave and her do settle down in Fiji. Or its equivalent somewhere in outerspace.
the bass player joined band Texas
Tich the drummer was later sacked and in came Lironi who Clare later married.

Brilliant!
Shame Claire isn't playing with more of the original band in her latest re-incarnation.
Bands had to go to London because thsts were the Record Companies were
Apart from Postcard 🎉
@@SuperBroonie postcard couldn't compete with big labels Indi karelia really
If only that had been Robert Webb doing the signing for the hearing impaired at the end, just like in Bruiser.
Is that Jim White doing the interview?
