Which watercolor paper is best for me, this is the very common question every watercolor beginners has. In this tutorial I am sharing my experience and tips working on my watercolor art. I have been using “CHITRAPATH” watercolor paper for some time now and I love the texture of this paper. Interestingly, this paper is cost effective too when it comes to price. Definitely, way cheaper than any other western country brand. I recommend this paper specially to beginners who just started to learn watercolor. Availability of this watercolor paper outside india I am not sure, you may check online or directly write them for delivery. In other hand, I am also using “CANSON” watercolor paper for my gallery art project. What I really love about this paper is “SIZE”, I was looking for bigger size of paper for gallery watercolor artwork for my client and for exhibition collection.

Canson paper is REALLY GREAT. The New Canson paper is 100% cotton!!
But make sure to paint on the right side.
You can only paint on ONE side!
The side with the stamp is the back side.
(Please try a small piece first. I am from Canada. So I'm not sure if the paper is different in your country.)

I love your work brother, this is the Montval paper from Canson it’s not cotton it cellulose and not very good it doesn’t layer well and I find it quite difficult to use...I hope you don’t have the problems I have had with it. Please keep us posted on whether you find this paper acceptable after using it. Good luck and happy painting.

Chitrapatch i use is having cold press, i am yet to experience working on canson.
Try aquabee paper, its much better than canson montval and cheaper than arches.

Is chitrapat paper already primed with gesso?
if it helps, watercolor paper does not need gesso at all, in fact gesso isn't good for watercoloring, you only need it for oil or acrylic paintings.
chitrapat is cotton paper, which is the best type of paper for watercolors.

Yes Chitrapat Paper is Vegan for sure ! I'm a Vegan and I use chitrapat paper and it do not have any kind of sizing and not even smell like any animal product being used like Gelatin Sizing.
@@pranjalshelar3830 Yeah ! Of course please do research. The Watercolor papers from almost all the tops brands are done with " Gelatin sizing " so the pigments stays and spread on surface giving them extra strength and the cotton do not soak them in. If you search about Gelatin ! It's made by boiling animal parts or fish waste extracted while slaughtering like bones and cartilages in water to get a yellow liquid. And later it is dried and purified to extract Gelatin powder which is later used by several industries such as medicines , food , and of course watercolor paper. Try smelling your paper if you have any branded one you will get an idea. So it's not at all VEGAN !

@@SahithNayudu you can but know that when you switch to watercolor paper the behavior will be different.
Use chart papers for small experiments. Do serious paintings on expensive paper.
Is cartridge paper or art paper suitable for watercolour painting?
did you get answers?
Depending on the gsm, you could use either but the color doesn't hold on to cartridge paper properly and dries really fast, so you'll probably have more problems than with watercolor paper. However, it's not impossible to paint on and I use 224 gsm textured cartridge paper all the time for watercolor (because actual watercolor paper is extremely expensive here in Nepal). You'll just have to apply a few tricks to get everything working properly. For example, if I need to do skies or large washes, I use larger brushes so that I can get everything done before the paper dries. I have also moved to using more dilute paint to substitute wet-on-wet with wet-on-dry method wherever possible as this doesn't create as much patches as it does when I'm using wet-on-wet. I also almost never use above A5 size paper because it's easier to work with when using cartridge paper. Amd finally, I once bought canvas-textured paper (it was definitely paper, but the texture was similar to canvas) and those seem to hold water a lot better so I'd duggest yoy get more grainy textured cartridge paper.
