this isn't even a theory. they were legally married at one point because of the priest. they probably divorced on good terms since neither were intending to be married though.

Or maybe they just forgot or even didn't know about the priest being real. It's actually funnier to think they are legally married yet are not interested in one another and as the series goes won't have any romance between each other and other people.

i would love for spongebob and sandy to be a couple in the actuel show like there personalites are very defferent yet they still manege to be there for each other and support each other so them becoming a couple would just be great

@mello.art0 I think lots of people would be put off by it nowadays. The peak of this ship dawned since Truth or Square hype and a lot of new fans don't even know it being a thing since they start watching from middle or latest seasons.
I'd like to believe the writers would throw a hint or two in Sandy movie, but it's much less likely for it to become canon than for the show to actually have a conclusion: like Krabs and Plankton putting their rivalry aside or SpongeBob getting his driver's license.

@@box2365It has an explanation since while some sponges are asexual and reproduce by buddying others have legitimate gender and are able to breed just like mammals. SpongeBob's parents are just one of these examples because the same Truth or Square showed Margaret being pregnant with SpongeBob
