  • In this video I totally forgot to mention the price. Longines sells the new Hydroconquest GMT on Nato Strap for $2675 and on rubber and steel for $2775. For my Canadian fellows, on Longines website the new Hydroconquest GMT goes for $3600CAD.

I hated the hugo crown guards, but this new watch looks better with the smallr crown guards to point in opposite directions. I understand that it was THE detail that made you recognise the Hydroconquest, but it was a subtle and refined as a brick.

On one hand I would stand with Roman in that they were a key design feature of the classic Hydroconquest. However, I myself experienced one time that the crown guard cut into my wrist, so I see why they would have changed it. For me, they also could have flattened them a bit but keep the overall shape.
I love the design of the new GMT overall, especially having the GMT function on the rehaut and looking that well while keeping the divers bezel. Thats what I basically do with my Formex Reef GMT.
What I don't like is that they dropped the big arabic numbers. They should have kept it and then maybe still have the hour markers changed to batons, but I miss the numerals, they said "I am a Hydroconquest".
What I wonder about - there are three or four videos having deeper looks at this watch at this time, and in one it even can be seen that this is a TRUE GMT watch in that the hour hand jumps while the seconds run. THAT is astounding and none of these videos mention it! I would much rather have expected a caller GMT for this one.

For me it's actually the other way around. I'm finally willing to buy one.
The old huge angled crown guards always prevented me from buying one. I found them hideous. They finally saw the light and made some proper normal crown guards. Needless to say, I absolutely love everything about the watch now.

11:30 coming from a proud owner of the hydroconquest USA edition, I might say that the new crown and crown guard design on the GMT is better as it doesn't hurt to wind the watch anymore, and it won't get caught up in long sleeves too. Not only it applies with the new hydroconquest gmt but also the new conquest for 2023. And personally I think it's a warm welcome as I honestly thought that this crown guard design of them need to go as painful as I might said it. It has better for my finger to grip to the crown and to quickly wind it up without scraping the finger's dead skins.

Thank you very much for stopping by! I personally never had any issues winding the watch or setting up the watch. But i do understand that this a more of a personal preference! Needless to say, i love the whole hydroconquest line! And the gmt one is fire!!

Personally I think it's the ridge on the end of the crown itself that digs into the finger/thumb and not the crown guards themselves so much. At least it seems that way to how I wind it. It's not a big concern for me either though

This is exactly why I find this hobby so interesting. I love Longines and their designs, I've had a Conquest V.H.P. and I always wanted to buy the Hydroconquest but I didn't only because of the CROWN GUARDS, I really didn't like those. I will wait with the new Hydroconquest for the three hand model and also because I will definitely buy the new Conquest Chronograph 42 which I'm in love with 😊

Great video Roman. Enjoyed this one a lot. I was digging this watch a lot until the thing you pointed out in the end!! I have been on the road and haven’t been checking any watch news so this was actually the first I have heard about it. I like the overall aesthetic and designs of this watch as a whole and I am actually surprised they released it since they have the spirit Zulu GMT. You have great points throughout and I definitely agree on the crown guards. It was something unique that set it apart. I am a big fan of the now tapered bracelet and the fact that the bracelet now looks brushed as opposed to polished center links.
While this watch is definitely an amazing watch at almost 3k msrp it’s going to be hard to compete with say a used black bay gmt.
I think it’s definitely a good step though for the brand. Longines have been focusing slot on their heritage models so I like they are also updating and paying attention to their more modern releases and designs like this.

overall great video. You did a really good job conveying your thoughts and opinions. A few points - 7:28 Two words: Breitling Superocean. The previous gen of course. It had a fantastic 12, 6 , and 9 and it unequivocally has the best lume to ever grace the hands of any dive watch. Even better than any Seiko. 10:36 This was a very interesting take from you. The first thing that caught my attention when I first saw this watch, was how they had ripped off the lugs from the Rolex Submariner. Same with the side slab of the case. Ripped off directly from the sub. If you look at the lugs, It's really difficult not to think modern day submariner. Its still a beautiful watch this Longines, but it just has so much submariner DNA. I hadnt even really considered the crown guards until you brought it up. And you're right! Very subby. Its just interesting how I instantly picked up on the lugs and the side of the case and you the crown guards 😂. This is a great watch , but too much submariner influence imho.

I really enjoyed your video. You are just as passionate about Hydroconquest model as I am, and I have two of them. In my opinion you are a bit overreacting about crownguards. I always felt they have quite sharp edges and sometimes even hurting my fingers when I was wounding the watch. I think many Hydroconquest owners had the same feedback and Longines decided to round them up a little. Still I think the new gmt model does not look anything like a sub, it looks distinguished and classy diver.

I own the black ceramic bezel HC on 41 mm. I've always thought the one thing thata keeps it from perfect are the crown guards. They are just too big. I like the fact that they represent the longines logo, but being honest I always wanted it to have this same old submariner crown guards... But even with that I don't think I would replace it for this new lineup, I love the big numbers. I feel its like if a submariner had a child with an explorer lol.

Massive upgrade over the previous standard version, especially the bracelet with taper and nice quick release micro adjustment, really glad they got rid of the 300meter script off the clasp too, one of the reasons I never bought the previous version. This new one really reminds me of the new sub, case shape, size and even down to the lug width, looks like that's what they have gone for, I'll wait for the standard version to come out as I have no need for a GMT and should be cheaper.

I can see where you're coming from, the crown guards are definitely styled after Rolex, however the old crown was really unflattering and I'm glad that got changed. Where these new crown guards really work are on the regular Conquest 2023, such a nice watch for around €2k.
On a sidenote, adding the GMT hand to have a jack of all trades watch appealing to the ordinary person doesn't work on a dive watch in my opinion, it also adds unnecessary thickness to the watch, not that this watch is particularly beefy to begin with.

  • @PurebredInnovator
    @PurebredInnovator 10 месяцев назад +1

I agree with your opinion Roman. I know that many people did not like the sharp angular crown guards and the large arabic numerals. By removing them however, it makes the watch look significantly more generic (Like many other dive watches). I know that Longines still has excellent finishing but I look at these and think that there is less to seperate these models from a MIDO Oceanstar, Oris Aquis or Tudor Pelagos/Black Bay. Also, the three different indices (upside down triangle at 12, circle at 6 and 9, rectangles at remaining) are done better elsewhere. A good example is the Tudor Pelagos where the rectangles are used at 6 and 9, which should be more prominent. Finally, the price is somewhat high too. $3600.00 CAD for a non-chronometer certified movement? The Longines Zulu Time is not that far off from these HC models and the movement in them is certified chronometer. The sad thing is that when I acquired my Zulu Time, the retail price was the same $3600.00 (and I got a significant discount to lower it even further). This last point is seen with many other watch brands too (constant price increases, poorer value than in years past) so this is not completely on Longines.
On the plus side, I like the new bracelet and clasp, significantly better than the current model (clasp is easily the worst part on current HC models right now). The thinness of the watch is also impressive. These models are thinner than my Longines Zulu Time GMT and I didn't find it too thick at all.
Overall, not for me. I would not buy one even if I did not have my two tone HydroConquest with ceramic bezel but I hope it does well. Longines as a brand is great for quality and finishing.

This is way better than the old one. I have the old style Hydroconquest Chronograph. It’s a bulky watch and with the bracelet, it’s too much. The bracelet is well made but like the regular hydro conquest, it has no taper and is thick. Micro adjustment was a problem for me too. I wear it on a leather or rubber and it makes it look a whole lot better. The new bracelet looks great with the taper and it’s not as thick. Big improvement there! Love the color, especially the green. The crown guards are better now in my opinion but that could be because I have the old style chrono. You’re right though, they’re a duplicate of the Sub crown guards. The 6, 9 and 12 I liked! I’m kinda disappointed in that. It was a way of distinguishing it from the Sub. I guess that and the crown guards. I travel a lot so I’m into the GMT function. I’m curious to know if it’s a True GMT like the Spirit. All in all, this watch is beautiful. Big ups to the design team.

So, all video mostly is a complaining about new case ledges, used for crown protection in a dive watches usually, which are now designed in a more soft lines (as most other luxury brands, Rolex, Omega, etc.), rather than use of previous triangle sharp design for that ledges.
And that's a deal of taste!
Longines becomes more mature brand for luxury mechanical watches, especially in terms of modern design of watches. Longines now is a strong contender for Tudor and other brands. I love the new Longines design for case and crown, and new clasp (the previous clasp design was a horrible one!). This definitely now my kind of a wristwatch!

No not all video. I complained about the guards only at the end of the video. I praised the watch mostly. I agree that Longines has become more mature brand. I simply don’t like the new crown guards. The old ones worked just as well and were different than any i seen out there.

Roman, it’s your “ME” thing. New crown guards are beautiful. The whole watch is stunning! One thing you did not mention is whether this this a boring CallerGMT or exciting TravelerGMT. My guess is CallerGMT at this price point. Although Mido Ocean Star GMT is a True or Real or Travelers GMT - for about 1200 bucks. SWEET!
Oh, and… Roman, lose that TV in the background. Picture and sound are irritating.
And yes, that whole video could have been half as long as somebody else already pointed out. Ciao!
