I don't understand why the writers always insist of having Jason Statham speak with a dreadful attempt at an American accent. He's got a natural east London accent, and that's about as sinister as you can get.

Probably because they’re not gonna make him out to be a non-American special service contractor who oddly has a London accent yet still works for the American government so they ask him to try an American accent.
Because British people are not intimidating, there's nothing scary about brits. We think british accents are funny. This is America where everybody carries a gun just because we can, you're going to have to try a little harder than that.
It makes him sound like more than a dreadrul but more like "tired" ex agent. Better for the chatacter

The Beekeeper is the wet dream of the typical Rete 4 viewer, of the hardened old man who can't stand today's young people, who feels cut off from society and is filled with nostalgia for times gone by, with hatred against anything new and with desire very strong in justice, even outside the law. All it takes is for someone to go and attack these people. It is the most classic Italian film without the softened tones of comedy but with the knuckles against the occipital bones of Jason Statham's film. That is, it is the generational conflict illustrated, fought and won by the elderly through their champion: Jason Statham.
