    A continuation of my Carthus lore video, moving lower into the catacombs and exploring what may be part of Lost Izalith. I didn't get all my thoughts that I wanted to talk about in this vid, so I guess next vid will be a continuation of this. Whoops!
    Thank you all who have been enjoying these so far, it really means a lot and I hope to push for 1000 subs before the end of this month! As usual, let me know if I fucked anything up, and I will fix it ASAP.

    What if the Old Demon king was the last thing keeping the demon race alive. Using his chaos flame spark to constantly create new demons. And the ballista is meant to keep both the Demon king and his children from escaping. While the Sand worm consumes stragglers who manage to avoid the bolts. This would explain why there are so many corpses in the Demon king boss arena. Or he just killed any overly cocky demons. Probably none of this is true but it was an interesting thought that I needed to write down.

      +Monica Stein The chaos flame touched many lives. Remember at one point Gwyn split his massive armies into two one to fight everything else. One to fight the demons. An army massive enough to take on an entire world of dragons. Split to take on security and the extermination of an infection. This would suggest that the chaos flame touched more than just Izalith. I would think that there was a great number more than there was in just Lordran. Only that Izalith was the center, the core of the infection. Remember that the chaos flame spread and took on vestiges beyond Izalith. It is only now that the last vestige was destroyed in the Profaned Capital is the demon race doomed.

      The demon prince is the "chosen undead" of the chaos flame. Every once in a while, it reincarnates to rekindle the chaos flame. But every time it failed, being killed by powerful warriors like Lorian. In the dreg heap, 2 demons remain, the last demons in existence. They possess the soul of the demon prince, and once we kill the last of them, the last one standing reincarnates into the Demon Prince. Killing it marks the end of demonkind since we now hold the demon prince soul which we proceed to turn into a curved sword that shoots pyromancies and annoy the living hell outta anyone who tries to fight you.

    I'm not entirely sure if you can take the narrative without a grain of salt sometimes. When you brought up the implication about the Demon King being the last living witness to the bed of chaos, it made me think about how you're told that the everlasting dragons are dead in DS1 until you discover that there is still at least one left in the Ash Lake.

    • @shawnmarcum8078
      @shawnmarcum8078 Год назад

      Exactly, if the devs do this shit with Pharris in Ds2, I wonder if we can even trust what they are saying as well.
      And there is stuff in the environments and mechanics in these games that tells us stuff as well rather than item descriptions. Look at how Gascoigne's wife was on the roof of the building where Gascoigne was. He without question killed her. Or even in the same area, his daughter was killed by a pig. It doesn't say so through item text, but you have to look for it. I think there is so much obvious stuff we have been missing over the years, or it's just too deep to understand.

    A very intriguing and different look on the Demons, who really seem to be a poor race, misunderstood and hunted.
    I like that they have a unique origin story, unlike in many other universes where they mostly just come from hell.
    Some points and questions I'd love to know more about:
    - Are the Ghrus considered demons / how are they related to them?
    - There are several Black Knights (I think 2) in the Smouldering Lake area, were they hired by Wolnir as an army to fight the demons, or do they have other reasons? Was Lorian fighting alongside them?
    - 4 of them are in the Untended Graves, had they been escorting another Lord of Cinder to linking the Flame, just like with Gwyn?
    - And one more Black Knight in the Crucifxion Woods. Facing a one way steel door, which leads to Farron Keep and the Ghrus. But maybe he was searching for a more dangerous, Stray Demon.
    - Which brings me to that fella specifically. He once was the Gatekeeper of Lothric, but probably comes from the Smouldering Lake. This might be a long shot, but he might be connected to Lorians defeat of the Demon Prince. Maybe Lorian somehow subdued/tamed/captured the Stray Demon and forced him to guard Lothric.
    Brilliant story telling and quality editing, just like your previous videos. I'm eager to see your interpretations to these points, and how they will be touched on in part 2!

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  8 лет назад +6

      Good to see you here again! All of these points I will actually be talking about in the next vid. It might be worth maybe doing a more bite-sized video regarding the Black Knights and their role in the game. That escort theory is interesting, hadn't thought about that.
      One thing about the Stray Demon that is fascinating which Smoughtown brought up is that a gatekeeper would have to be sentient, right? It would have to know who to let through and who to not let through. Lorian might have had a hand in this. Hard to say. Thank you for your feedback :)

    • @doomdoot6731
      @doomdoot6731 7 лет назад +1

      What speaks against the escort theory (leading the new lord to the flame at untended graves) is the fact that Gundyr was supposed to be a lord, but he was too late. That's why the grave is dark and Gundyr is chained in the graves forever. At least that's what I take from the description of the Chain Ring.

    Another thing about the Stray Demon, it's that it has the same moves of the one of DSI. It's like it just get corrupted, old and weak, being the last remain of the like the Assylum Demon family. I just feel bad about the demons, the Carthus people just slayed them with no trace..... (Sorry if I had some mistakes, i don't usually speak on English).

      +Mr. Sherm Well, it's the "Age of Men". The Demons are extinct, the Dragons too, there aren't too many Wyverns like in DSI, the Giants a dying race, the Gods are all dead, only the humans are "alright" in DSIII.

    • @Dark89Avenger
      @Dark89Avenger 8 лет назад +2

      Well, as far as i am aware to the lore, there isn't yet an Age of men. Gwyn made sure of that, when he linked the fire.
      After the fading of flame though...who knows.

    • @kuriouskalameet1404
      @kuriouskalameet1404 8 лет назад

      +Konrad Curze Gwyn really did a good job about don't let the fire fade, but maybe it's too late now. If you link the flame in DS3, there isn't a big explosion like in DS1, but you start to burn instead. This could mean that the flame is very weak to burn like it did in DS1, giving us a very shirt Age of Fire.

    • @Dark89Avenger
      @Dark89Avenger 8 лет назад

      Mega Charizard X El Lechero Well actually there is another ending in which you let the fire to "perish" and darkness overcomes the world. That is pretty much the end of the age of fire and I think that this ending is considered as canon for the series.
      (well they are 2 more endings, but I don't wanna spoil them for you. I am only going to say that one of them is really fucked up, and actually made me feel sick in a way)

    I think the hole depicted among the roots in 11:49 depicted the small cavity in which the actual boss was in the Bed of Chaos boss fight. However, it may also suggest the dark sigil: without their flame to sustain them, the demons are like humans, also going hollow, or more appropriately, becoming Unkindled ash.

Towards the back to me it looks so much like the devs made a tunnel behind one or two so that it looks like if you removed the dead demons somehow you'd open a path to another area. DLC later maybe? Seems like Alsanna, silent oracle from the Crown of the Ivory king DLC of Ds2 did her job sealing the old chaos/chaos flame well, since it seems to be dying with the demons. What do you think, Mitch? Or perhaps the chaos flame is dying because of some other reason.

    • @arturocrespo3699
      @arturocrespo3699 8 лет назад

      +ElishaSkater no it wasn't the chaos flame is linked to the soul of the witch of izlaith the fire that one of the children of manus had in her kingdom is most likely a reminent of the chaos flame but not the chaos flame itself which is the reason why demons are a dieing race because there life force and life blood and how they are born are all destroyed

    • @thedarkness6256
      @thedarkness6256 8 лет назад

      +ancient catalyst Ah but you must remember in dark souls three you have a chaos flame that was in the Profaned Capital. I believe the Bed of Chaos was nothing more than an arbiter for the flame and, once destroyed, the vestiges of its influence shrunk away to find new suitable places to thrive. According to the onislayer arrows you learn there is or was a race of one eyed demons in the east. It is my belief that the chaos flame was once like a rampant virus, spreading quickly and converting as many as it could before Gwyn divided his massive armies and led a crusade against the demons. And succeeded until reaching Izalith were he faced the greatest concentration of demons along with the massive ceaseless discharge and other greater demons as well as the bed of chaos that resistance became to great. Imagine, an army so great in number and power that it fought and defeated an entire world of dragons. Divided into two parts, one for security, another to fight a scourge. No, I don't think the chaos flame was just in Izalith. An army of such size wouldn't be needed to cleanse just one capital.

    How do we know the undead curse came in before the catacombs filled? I find it more likely that they through bodies into the catacombs, and the undead curse resurrects that skeletons when Wolnir enters the abyss.
    For one, because undead won't decay as bodies anymore than they are, they go hollow but they won't lose their skin and flesh. For two, a never ending army of those skeletons should be able to kill that demon.

    I think there is something to be said about "living" in the last living witness to the chaos. was there anything at the time that would be considered undead? Also when the description says they were not meant to be, could it be implying that the demons were not meant to be twisted and malformed?

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  8 лет назад

      The undead part is interesting, I'll have to look into that. And yes! I did actually consider the secondary meaning of "be." It could possibly mean that they were not meant to live as long as they did, or something along those lines.

    • @Chidy398
      @Chidy398 8 лет назад

      +Mitch L I think not meaning to exist is along the right lines just from the sound of it, but the first thing that actually came to mind for me was they were not meant to be twisted and malformed.

    So as far as I look at it, it's something like this:
    Each of the lord souls had their own inherent power. Gwyn's could stave off the natural state of hollowed existence, Nito's could rule over the newly created concept of dead hollows, Izalith's was some manner of fire creation, and we know the Pygmy's. The problem comes in when the Witch of Izalith attempts to create something like the First Flame that was derived from Gwyn's lord soul, and since her soul was not meant for it the result is a corruption, hence the twisted nature of demons and the Izalith children.
    Unsure on how demons spawned, but I would say that given what we see with some of them being able to lay eggs they might have been able to reproduce like any normal species, just the results being more twisted demons.
    Bed of Chaos acts something like the First Flame and its resulting "Light" that perverts the nature of hollows away into something more like natural life that other lifeforms like animals or the dragons have. It constantly kept the world in a flourishing state for the demons, hence there being so many of them in Dark Souls.
    We kill, or rather destroy the structure, of the Bed of Chaos, leaving the transformed Witch of Izalith bug to lose its twisted lord soul, and no longer keeping the world in that state for demonic existence. What I'd assume happens after that is that demons slowly begin losing the ability to reproduce, something like continually shrinking viable young. Eventually the state of the world weakens enough to where demons start dying without being killed, their bodies not having the energy to sustain themselves without the presence of the Bed of Chaos supporting them.
    Iffy on whether the particularly strong demons that we see leftover in Dark Souls 3 would have been able to eek out an existence in a greatly weakened state of being, but we kind of cut that short with the rampant slaughter of them regardless.
    Though it is cool to look at the gradual dying off of the demons as something the same as the curse of undeath, things going back to their natural state. Them being something completely unnatural that shouldn't exist resulting in them just outright dying instead of changing.

    You fight the Demon Prince in the ringed city DLC
    Maybe Lothric went to the ringed city in search for the princess but couldn't proceed due to midair guarding the path and possibly the angel-like being
    Also, when you fight the Demon Prince you end up in firelink shrine from the first game
    Maybe the Demon Prince was too looking for something... Or someone
    His soul reads...
    The demons, birthed from a common chaos, share almost everything between them, even the pride of their prince, and his near faded flame
    So according to the last part " his near faded flame" maybe he was looking for the first flame, maybe he wanted to settle over the flame to stay alive and keep the weak chain of demons going before they all die
    Anyways great video it was really good, cant wait to see the next one

  • @JohnSmith-ul5gk

    With the fact about the chaos bed vestige, you said man would share the same fate as the demons if the first flame went out.
    This wouldn't be the case, we learn in dark souls 1 that mankind was made from the dark soul therefore would actually get stronger with the fading of the first flame.

    What if the old demon king was the husband of Izalith that got corrupted (like some of the daughters chaos) during the creation of the Chaos Flame, and the "demon prince" that Lorian killed was actually Ceaseless Discharge?

    • @mitchl6896

      @manonmuoreno 8 лет назад

      +Mitch L yeah, but what about Ornstein? His boss fight wasn't even possible to skip, while the one for Ceaseless was (ok, it was EXTREMELY hard to skip, but it was STILL possible).
      Also, it's impressive how many people care about the identity of the mother of Gwyn's children, but no one does for the identity of the father of the daughters of chaos

      +Grey Silver In terms of his identity, I have to agree with what Hawkshaw has to say currently, I think he has the best rationale. He believes that Xanthous Jerimiah is the husband and has some good evidence to back it up.

    great video! I was wondering what those demons were doing on the bridge and in the Undead Settlement. It makes sense that Lorian went in search of a way to fight Chaos, but returned wounded and perhaps spiritually defeated. It seems he made use of one demon as a gate keeper, and sent the other to cleanse the Undead Settlement. But all this leaves me wondering why Lothric's bridge seems to have been destroyed by a battle with dragons. Didn't Lothric tame dragons? Or were the dragons killed in an attack by the Undead, perhaps reacting to Prince Lothric's refusal to link the flame?

      I know what you mean by their look. I always assumed it was to symbolise that they weren't newly "born" demons. They were the same demons from their initial creation, getting old and becoming extinct after the bed of chaos dies, they were fought against by Gwyns knights, people from Carthus, perhaps the Ghru and others and had the look of being decrepyt are war-torn because of it.

    I never actually killed the demon in the undead settlement. I accidentally killed Siegward instead (thinking his dramatic lift entrance was the start of a boss fight) so I never discovered the extra part of undead settlement meaning cannonocally in my souls universe the demons are not extinct.
