Season 04 Episode 08 : An Existential Crisis and a Bear that Makes Bubbles
Young Sheldon is an American comedy television series on CBS created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. The series is a spin-off prequel to The Big Bang Theory and begins with the character Sheldon Cooper at the age of nine, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school. Iain Armitage stars as young Sheldon, alongside Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts. Jim Parsons, who portrays the adult Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, narrates the series and serves as an executive producer.

I really like George’s co coach. He’s always so upbeat, and you got to respect a man who adores his wife and finds time to read for pleasure.

Thanks for stating that Young Sheldon is indeed a younger version of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory
George when he said “I can’t find happiness anywhere” that hit me on a spiritual level.
Its a great hint and start of his eventual spiral out of control alcoholism
@@f687sNFM and his death since he dies a few years later. That want to work attitude served him and his family well since he took care of them after george died and with sheldon at college.

George was trying to live his youth through georgie by having him do stuff he wanted to do becoz he married early. He didn’t think that maybe his son wants to do some different.
George married at 32 . Not sure if I would call that "early"
@@arkyaprabhabanerjee5817 really? I always thought they got married young since they did it because they were pregnant with Georgie. Or is George just a lot older than Mary?
@@Sunday-ex7px George died at 50 when Sheldon was 14 ( as mentioned in BBT) . George married Mary when she got pregnant with Georgie , who is 4-5 yrs older than Sheldon . So , that would mean that George married at 31-32 .
@@arkyaprabhabanerjee5817 I think it was a continuity error. Because in young Sheldon it’s mentioned that Mary was young when she had Georgie.
@@torischmidling3595 Mary, (The mom) is obviously younger than George (the father) tho...
Let me do some digging...
Okay, so...
The actor plays plays sheldon's mom, Zoe Perry, was 33 the first season in 2017.
The actor who plays sheldon's dad, Lance Barber, was 44.
So yea, it's quite possible Mary was about 21 and George was 32.
Of course it's a TV show so they might mean for the characters to be a little older or younger than the actors.

In an instance of me taking this show bit too seriously, George and Georgie's argument in the store really hit me hard. I wish they could have a good heart-to-heart sit-down where they can connect and understand each other and respect each other's thoughts and feelings. George tried in season 3 and Georgie wasn't into it at all. On the one hand Geogie seems really disrespectful but on the other hand, he has already had to develop self-reliance and validation so doesn't really need it from his father. Hopefully they can talk it out, at least a little bit.
Everyone has ways of protecting themselves and it is rare when two strong minded people aren't trying to do that at the same time and are able to empathize.

He's a high school football coach who could've coached College Level football and possibly even greater than that, but was forced to say no cause his insane wife wouldn't let him. I'd be pissed to.
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 actually no. He told Sheldon in the first episode he was coaching college football but was fired, because he complained about the other Team letting a guy play illegally

this show literally makes me laugh and smile but sometimes, arguments or spats like these in family hit so hard and actually teaches me lessons sometimes. I love this show sm it’s so family oriented and funny
hello
personally I've never been that much of a sports guy and I've always thought that schools pay way too much attention to sports back then and now if I had a son who decided he wanted to quit football to hold down a job I would be proud of him for having his priorities straight.

Honestly, I side with Georgie quitting football to focus on his job. What I don’t support though is how he is skipping class.
He's yearning for the mine company
I don’t think Georgie gets enough credit, he’s never appreciated by his parents because he’s not as intelligent as Sheldon. It shows how the world can be unfair that most people have to work their ass off to get a solid job, while some get everything handed to them on a silver platter just because they’re naturally gifted
very true
When You have a gifted kid like Sheldon they Will Take much attention & resources. Its a challenge for the parents to juggle the gifted & others
the fact that he prioritizes his work in order to earn a living for himself shows intelligence
Well that's not true. I have two brothers, one is a genius the other is a drug abuser. The abuser got ALL the attention, and every spare dollar went to bailing him out. My mom used the genius brother money and credit to help the druggie. When my genius brother left home he never spoke to our mom again.
I'm okay with people getting things on a silver platter because they are gifted.
I'm not okay with people getting everything on a silver platter because their parents are rich. Because they often shut out talented people.
I'm in the "had to work for everything" category myself. Smart enough (at least til I had cancer) but not supersmart.
....now I see how this will build up to him cheating on Sheldon's mom and getting a bit more crazier. Depression.

That last part really made me sad for the dad while yes I agree with Georgie but The Dad just confessed to having depression and both of the other guys just brushed him off
And this gentleman I think where things start to reminds us a lot of TBBT quotes and dialogues.
1- Georgie gets rich working with cars
2- The Father starts drinking alcohol compusevly and if we think about this today is pretty sure that he was with depression, then proceeded to die when Sheldon and Missy were 14 (not to far from now).
The co coach makes a good work wife. 🤣😂
it sounds to me, that sheldons father is depressed
I can sympathize with George wanting to share something he loved (football) with his son, but Georgie was right to quit for the sake of his job. While it's always important to try new things, it's also an important lesson in life to realize that there are some things you just aren't cut out for. I (and the overwhelming majority of humanity) am not going to be an Olympic Athlete or Rock Star, and that's fine. I went into engineering, and I very much enjoy it, and I'm glad I didn't waste my life chasing something I wasn't suited for. Georgie's not going to be a star football player, and that's fine too. There are waaaaay worse things he could've been than a successful businessman...
I really admire Georgie. I think he's a smart kid
He's "life smart" where Sheldon is "book smart", but often clueless about life. His mom didn't help that either.
Damn when the spotlights off Sheldon this show gets too damn real
hello
It’s amazing that he gets two sons and neither one of them wants or is even good at football.
The closest child he has that’s an athlete is his daughter and she plays baseball.
Sheldon's arm is nice tho lmao
That’s the thing I see with men who want sons thinking they’ll get to do all the “boy stuff” with them. The reality is your child isn’t always gonna be your mini me. They’re gonna be a person with their own thoughts and interests. My dad had 3 sons and 4 daughters. Neither me nor my brothers like soccer, football, or baseball, cars, golf, or welding. Not matter how much he tried to make us like what he likes, we didn’t. But you know who did? My 2 sisters. They are love all the things that he does so he gets to have that with them. But it goes to show no matter how hard you try your kids are always going to be their own person
@@liamisaac1152 I think it's less about 'I want my son to like what I like' and more about 'I want my son and I to have a connection, something we can talk about other than ourselves.' at least for growing up.
Not sure how well this applies, but growing up my dad tried to teach me sports, then he tried to teach me about doing diy stuff like working on electrical outlets or cars, then he tried to show me how to use his computer engineering program. All I was ever interested in was video games, and he couldn't even fake interest in them. We had a rough start, but when i got older and it became better to just talk about ourselves, it's good. Growing up, though, I don't think I would've had the maturity to handle talking to my dad about the goings on in his life and how he felt about them, and I definitely wouldn't have been able to talk about myself like that. So, when you can't handle deeper conversations about that, you find other things to help form connections, and if you can't form connections, then it might start to feel less like you're someone's parent and more that you're just their caretaker. Providing for them and not really conversing with them in any which way, and that can be hard emotionally. Especially when it seems George is having other troubles, losing a connection he's got with his son that he found he could discuss a plethora of things with could be pretty devastating.
But I can only speculate.
idk I mean Georgie liked football before this
But at least Sheldon is being recruited with full scholarships plus room and board by top colleges at 11. George sorts treats it like sports and is way more supportive of Sheldon going to college. You can hear the inner coach get angry at Mary for hiding the caltech offer
you know i recently quit a college class , for similar reasons of georgie , and this scene hit me , about my parents expectations of being in all the classes
Georgie is the best character. He did his best and always tried to be decent
Meemaw is the best character
@@aiyanyaqoob2203 Not fully.
Do most dad's feel the way gorge does? I get that feeling every now and then but then I'll pick myself back up and get on with what needs to be done but it sure does hit deep when you aren't the only one feeling that way.
cant seek validation from anyone/anywhere but yourself as a man. A man down the road from me spends every day singing and laughing 0- totally happy as a tobacco puller making minimum wage and another man i work with makes great money being a cnc mill programmer and is constantly depressed. Your attitude towards your job matters more then what you do at that Job or what "position" you hold.
George in my opinion, is held back by his time in the army. He barely mentions he was in the army and that he served but I believe that it's very had to function out of the military, that's why he says he doesn't feel happy anywhere.
Holy shit, that makes a lot of sense.
Hmm, interesting.
Especially since iirc George Sr wanted to play football professionally, so he’s trying to project his own dreams on to Georgie from multiple angles
As a retiring First Sergeant, I both agree and disagree at the same time.
There's a difference between military and civilian life. That creates a definite zone of angst when one leaves the service.
The issue is one gets accustomed to the regimen and structure the service provides; and, you pine for the "freedom" from that.
Once you leave, you have a feeling of being lost, relying on doing what you feel you have to do to provide without the resources you gave up.
The adage "you can't go home again" resonates immensely in George. He's doing what needs to done, personal well-being be damned.
I agree with the black coach. Football isn't important at all. Job (although part time job) is, as that actually provides money, resume history, and the discipline necessary for the real world (assuming he answers to bosses).
“I better see you at practice!” “If I can find it with my head up my ass.” 🤣🤣🤣
3:16 you know it's funny, George does hate his job but had he taken that job he was offered awhile back he would've actually been enjoying work, he gave that great opportunity up for his family, an opportunity that would've been good for all of them and what does he get in return? Constant shit, no wonder he became what sheldon claimed he was in TBBT
The one in Oklahoma?
@@vm99125 i think so
7 months of a basic pen, whilst doing football duties and admin work, that is a work of art, never mind Amazing.
I love how "Amarillo By Morning" by George Strait is playing in the background during that final scene in the office.
George stopped caring about Georgie once he stopped coming to football practice….
I don't think he ever cared about Georgie. He didn't cared about Georgie but about football. We saw him in s1 replacing Georgie with Sheldon when he was doing stats and he acted like Georgie didn't exist. George never really believed in his son either by the way he constantly belittled and called him stupid all the time. Of course, their relationship got worse and worse from season 3 but it wasn't good in season 1 either. Even Sheldon has a better relationship with his father.
At the end of the day, George married Mary because he got her pregnant with Georgie. George Sr looks like he’s simultaneously blaming Georgie for ending his dreams AND trying to live those dreams through him: on one hand George Sr belittles and insults Georgie all the time, but on the other hand he gets pissed if Georgie doesn’t want to get into football professionally. I’ve got to wonder what would’ve happened between this father-son duo if there had been another army draft in the 1990s like there was during the Vietnam war which Sr served in.
Yeah Sheldon is lowkey his favorite too. Sheldon got to be recruited by top colleges so Sheldon sorta ironically fulfilled his D1 dreams

Well Good For You
I felt like Georgie here when I was a kid. My parents tried hard to push me into girls football, I was the oldest and they didn’t have a son so it was on me. But I hated it. I was a girly girl, like makeup and dressing up, hated getting dirty on the pitch. Most often I got into fights with the other girls, I don’t mind getting dirty in a fight but not in football. I think I just hated my team mates just because I didn’t want to be there. I put my foot down when I was 15 and finally my parents stopped dragging me to practice. Much like Georgie, I wanted to work instead of play football. Not necessarily because I like my job, but mainly because I liked earning my own money. Funny enough, my younger sister loved football and always offered to go in my place, my parents never let her.
Years later my parents said that because I wasn’t good in school, they wanted me to be good in sports. They didn’t see any reason to push my sister into sorts even though she wanted to, because she was good at school.
Of all the Cooper family, Georgie is the least neurotic.
Its funny, emotional and sad at the same time.
3:55 i 100% relate to george here

The banter between the two coaches is so funny poor George can't win
Mary is such selfcentered person! Honestly, I do not support cheating,I disaproove it 100% but George was so not valiued in his own family, and everybody beeing so disrespectfull towards him. You can see how unhappy he was. Mary only focused on Sheldon, I think George kinda was trying to have good relationship with all of his children. And as a women Mary is so tough to deal with. I feel bad for him. He was working hard, and in that one episode he said to Vain "Honestly I don't think I am happy anywhere."
It must be hard, after hard work that you come home and your own family is jelling at you for no reason. And listen to Mary's commands everyday...She truly never bothers about her husband's feelings.
I disaproove cheating, but let's face it, how can you not with a woman like that and family that disrespects you.
He got a golden opportunity job wise that would've made him happy and would've been good for the family as well a couple seasons ago and turned it down because they weren't happy about it and despite giving that up for them, they still treated him like that, I to hate cheating as most do but honestly I probably would've done the same, everyone has their limit and like George, mine would've been broken by this point.
Well to be fair George Sr was a bully in highschool (he mentioned it in one of the episodes) so this is his karma so yeah
2:05 tbh, good comeback XD
I admit the principal probably enjoyed handling Sheldon in detention more than the other kids. With Sheldon it was probably easier to put him in line, compared to the career juvenile criminals he usually has to deal with.
