I pray for you and Jill and your family. You don't need to tell everything in your life...I've enjoyed you so much almost from the beginning.😊 I'm 78 and married for almost 59 years, was a stay at home mom of four..no regrets! Sending hugs from Michigan.
I’m so thankful my mom told me not to take out a $75k loan to go to FIDM. She helped me do research and saw that the same professors taught at the local city college nearby. I’m forever grateful that my mother knocked some sense in me, lol.
Just watching this now. I hear ya on no vacation. Had to buy a new hot water tank, fridge and oven. Crazy how things break down all at once. I had the money for them. Thank God.
We pretty much lived paycheck to paycheck when kids were children. Got dept free after retirement. Live frugally. Big issue now is medical/dental expenses not covered like when working.
This is what scares me. My husband retires in November. We have very good health, dental and eye care insurance. I don’t know what’s gonna happen when we make the transaction to Medicare. I’m worried about the cost of a good supplement. We are debt-free, but he had a heart attack a year ago and the bill was $75,000. Our out-of-pocket share was less than $4000. Our lives are about to change.
I am advertising your books whenever I can on Facebook. I belong to a lot of recipe sites, and frugal/budgeting sites and frequently offer your books for tips and recipes, and this show for budgeting help.
Begin learning to garden on the small scale first. Can be quite small and still a beneficial experience. I’ve even seen a book on growing things in an apartment. Sounds like an adventure lol. Learn to grow a few things well and keep it simple. You can always build up from there. Growing your own food is a lost skill and an art… could be a useful necessity in the future. Co-op and trade veggies and fruits to have more variety. How many people have had a Grandma who grew prize tomatoes, but would never share their secrets? Knowledge lost, sad too because - yum! Grow a salsa garden!
I get the car loan thing, I hate loans but I have 7 kids and finding a vehicle for 9 passengers is very hard , my suv recently bit the dust and the least inexpensive one I could find was 11K( yes we shopped around ) and it was 9 years old, but I am paying it off quickly and it will be paid off in 6 months, then we are tackling the mortgage
Dear Tawra, thank you for all your good advices. It help,me a lot. I’m a healer and don’t need doctors to tell me what’s wrong with me. I trust God and his guidance. I have cancer and put my health in God’s hands and ask him to guide On my journey to recovery. 3 years on, and I am still alive. God bless you and your family!
Another glitch is bad coding. I have Medicare and they only allow certain medical codes. A coder used commercial codes on my claim so Medicare rejected it and then the hospital started billing me for the whole amount. I made my whole career in coding so I knew better! I'm sure it is a real moneymaker for the hospital because people don't know this. Big boo!
And another thing they do is say "See you next year" after a normal exam but Medicare only allows those screening services every other year so Medicare would reject the next visit and they would bill you for the whole unadjusted amount.
I knew a single mom, bartender who upon graduation with her masters in some sort of social work decided to keep her bartending job for income, do social work part time for her soul, and was looking at options in the financial world. She knew that bartending until retirememt was not for her and that even full time social work wouldnt pay for her desired life style and retirement needs.
The eclipse in the path of totality is literally the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. The pictures do not convey the magnificent on display. It looks like billions of diamonds shining in the sky. A beautiful gift from God!
We had a pool company that took 3 attempts to install our pool liner, we had no pool for over 4 months due to the them messing up. First they ordered the wrong size, he said he didn't know we had a on ground pool and it would cost more than he quoted !! then the company was busy so the order would be weeks to deliver and then he just didn't show up when he said he would. They had every excuse in the book why they couldn't come and fix it, in the end we told them we would be posting on all our local sites about the company, needless to say we finally got the liner installed and they never sent a bill.. We saved $4,000 due to us not be taken advantage of and complaining.
When I was getting my college degree, I couldn't have stretched it out 8 years because early year credits would "disappear", not continue to be counted toward my degree after 5 years. Definitely a rip off.
Yes trades are so in demand and make great money. I know this sounds mean, but believe we have too many educated pencil pushers already. I say mean, because these kids think they are assuring their future when they go in debt for college, but they come out without necessary skills to make a decent living. Not really their fault, as they are too young to understand taking on that kind of debt.
If a person isn't saving emergency fund, then they're not going to have the margin to pay off the credit card if they're using it for emergency. We use our cc for regular bills so we get the rewards. Then we pay it off the day we use it. We just want the 1.5% reward on things we're buying anyways. Example: we use the cc for the water bill, then we immediately transfer the money from checking to cc and pay it off right away.
Excellent tips! I wish I'd followed them when I was younger! Hubby & I have dates at home as my illnesses mean I'm rarely able to go out. We have a "date jar" with over 100 ideas of things to do that are free at home. One great date is to decide where you'd like to travel to & then go online & explore that country, their restaurants, popular places to visit etc. Maybe even cook a meal from that country to eat while exploring the country online. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
For health insurance, if it is a good fit, consider a high deductible HSA (health savings account). It grows tax free and is yours to keep. If you are lucky it could be enough to take care of you in your elder years.
My dad went septic in January. His 17 or so day hospital-stay was nearly $99,000. His rehab is a neglectful joke. My husband had a pacemaker and aortc valve implanted in 2021. The bill was equivalent to a second home.
You have a recipe for French vanilla creamer? Last month I bought French vanilla creamer in bulk from Amazon. Proud to say I haven't bought anything from Amazon this month, and last month I paused my account.
@@LivingOnADime Yes and my huge apologies. I wrote that before your show even started and the very first thing you did was address different amounts. I like a garden, because I do well, and save a fortune in the summer. I save my seed, compost, and freeze. The best reason is the things I love are not rotting on the table or ruining in the fridge. I can go out and pick fresh with no waste, especially good with Romaine lettuce and garden fresh tomatoes. I just love gardening, but if I had a black thumb would do otherwise. When my daughter was younger, we had good insurance between the 2 of us, and her colonoscopy bill should have been zero. We had already paid the co pay prior to the procedure. They sent us a bill for $171. I tried talking to billing with no success. She goes, "Honey, no one gets a colonoscopy for free." So I called the insurance company. They agreed that was what the amount THEY had paid as the remainder (the secondary insurance), and that I owed NOTHING. I begged the insurance company to call, and they did. I should have told them to tell billing, "Honey, you really are a little stupid with Math!"
We won’t do any away kids activities. I think it’s ridiculous financially and seriously lacking moral supervision at a lot of these away situations. We pay $109 for seasonal sports 1-2x a year and my kids build their character and skills through interactions with the community, other local schools and coaches under my close supervision.
$218 per year per kid (plus uniforms, equipment, transportation, snacks et al) is less than what some 1-day sports clinics cost. In this area, many public high-school cheerleading tryouts require a $3k to $5k refundable deposit; sometimes a check or credit card number they don't use unless the kid is accepted. The costs just go up from there. Its about the same for public high school football but if you want a better, safer helmet, lads, etc... the full cost of those items are on the parents. There are ways for public (and private) school and private league teams to economize but these are group decisions and all too many of the parents want something approaching "nothing but the best". Heck, I know of one league soccer team that bought a couple of bolts of fabric from which a couple of parents sewed shorts (with pockets that functioned and shorts that actually fit with some functional ease). Another parent used thier Cricut machine to put what was needed on purchased, bagged tee shirts; these were group sized in S,M,L so not as fitting. No team jackets, warm ups, rain gear, or gear bags for each team member. Yes they got glares, snears, and even jeers but they did get through to a couple of playoffs. As the coach said, there are nothing like skills drills and field time to improve skills.
The Dave Ramsey approach to the emergency fund is that it is to be used in place of the credit cards when you come up short. My thought is to look through past credit card charges to look at when and where you have used them, and the amounts. Charges for dining out, clothing, game systems and other non essentials don't count. But charges for car repairs, tires and other vehicle maintenance, replacement appliances (not the top of the line types), heater or other emergency house repairs, etc... are the types of things you're looking for. $1000 may not be enough, $1200, $1500, or even $2000 may be what you need. The emergency fund is NOT a month ahead 3 months ahead, or 12 months ahead funds. If someone is dying a death of many, multiple debts, mandatory minimum payments, and interest I can see taking the risk of starting off with a smaller emergency fund versus paying off some of the smaller debts. To honestly break the credit card habit, even if it is a need, you must have some funds to take care of the unplanned, unexpected expenses which are needs.
Another credit card trap though is that they don’t always have those promos for 0 interest. It’s very much dependent on the financial climate going on and the men behind the curtain pulling the strings. Right now there are a bunch of those offers but 3 years ago I didn’t see any.
No credit cards, had a loan for cars when they died but threw lots at it to get rid. Now in last 2 years of paying off house. Ways of doing? Earning more, eat out OR takeout weekly or bi weekly, sensible food shopping, buying needs not wants. Easy once you start.
Something I'm seeing with student loans is that the interest is charged and then compounded daily. Meanwhile, some people are allowing the balances on some of the loans increase daily due to interest. If possible, pay enough on each loan to cover the interest so that the balance doesn't increase monthly. Don't do the pure snowball method by paying off the smallest loan before tackling the others. Do target the smallest (or largest if doing the avalanche method) but pay on the others at the same time so that the balance keeps increasing.
My credit score is in the 800s also but the highest I thought you could get was 850. Years ago 900 was the highest but that's no longer possible. How is yours 864? However, I do agree that it's important to have a high credit score in case something bad does happen!
Peppers are so hard. Ugh! I'm telling you, I had better success growing food in Alaska than I have in Tennessee. Well maybe one exception, tomatoes. However, tomatoes are "weeds" right? Even the chickens cannot kill tomato plants as we see them growing in their run! haha. Yes, we have chickens but, we have no other animals (pets; dogs, cats, turtles, etc.) We actually supply eggs to the 3 neighbors, the youngest is 70 and the oldest is 91. They also enjoy watching those pesky birds and hearing the rooster crow....this is podunk Tennessee. We only have a small mortgage on our house and no other bills at this time. We are nurses and I quit my job last July 4th, with notice, and we are good. If I could just stop adding more garden space to our property. hehe This year three new flower beds and a trellis for two roses. We grow most of what we eat - my mom, 82 yo, lives with us and wants a banana and coffee every morning and sour cream for her potatoes. I have time now for growing food and enjoy it. I also can food as we have the supplies since living on the island in Alaska where it was all a necessity. When we moved back to the south, we took a 50% pay cut and it truly isn't that much cheaper here other than groceries. Seriously. Sorry so chatty. Loving your videos / attitudes. May He bless and keep you all. Thanks for your time and enlightening messages.
Comment #3 for the night lol We have health insurance through my husband’s union but this itemized billing now happens every single time. I swear I never saw this prior to about 6 years ago. Now after I pay the deductible and coinsurance we again get billed for anesthesia, physician, labs and diagnostic tests. We got not 1 but 2 bills for anesthesia with my daughter procedure last Sept one for gas and one for the IV. 🙄
Dave Ramsey’s no credit card rule ever, is one that I don’t agree with! Like you said as long as you pay it every month and don’t buy anything you don’t have the money for it’s a good tool to have. You definitely need to have good credit in our society, it will save you money.
By chance I ended up at the community college (my idea). I was weight listed at OSU. (I only wanted to go there because everybody else in my family did). I was like, I want to start now. So I went to admissions at the community college. They told me to take a placement test. So, I did. Good thing, I needed DEV Math. I did end up eventually at OSU for 2 quarters but found the campus too big. I loved the community college though.
My husband and I have each a couple credit cards establishing our own credit for the just in cases. We do pay in full every month, but I'm an hour of sight, out of mind person. I must do financial things ever since is stroke. I have a small, but visible chart I made with card name vertical, month names horizontal. In the corresponding squares, I can quickly see if I've paid when needed and when next is coming up. A quick note written in the square or even a sticker gives a really simple method to stay on track for me. Hang it on the wall right in front of your desk. Don't put it in a book. A closed book puts it out of sight, therefore out of mind.
I don’t think your life is my business nor does it bother me that you don’t say what’s going on in your life. But what I think you need to bear in mind is that there are lonely isolated people, actually a lot, who look at you as their friends and they feel connected to you both and Jill. You are the people in the office or whatever device they watch you on, that come into their homes and keep them company. It is a sad reality. Please understand I am not being ugly or disrespectful to you or anyone on the community. That is just my take on one of the facts of social media. And that feeling of intimacy is what keeps folks coming back. Guess that must be what it feels like to be a movie or tv star.
I agree about student loans however, our situation is that we did all the undergrad debt free, but when it comes to medical school the students are not allowed to work as part of their contract (stupid I know and not like they have time to) and it was ridiculously expensive all because “they can charge it” so now we have quite a bit of student loan debt coming into residency. We have a plan to pay it off super fast though. Wish it wasn’t so, we are glad we sacrificed and didn’t have any undergraduate loan debt. Living debt free should be everyone’s goal. Thanks for the video.
Reminds me of when my grandson started school, and list came home with like 21 packs of crayons, 21 notebooks, 21 scissors, 21 glue, etc and on and on. We struggled to buy and find that huge list to take to school. Too big for his little back pack, so we had to drive and deliver. Later teacher’s aid divulged parents went off about this, and they were merely sending list for entire class in case some child may not bring supplies. If anything looks crazy we need to question, because these schools are using those children to sell overpriced chocolates, unwanted unhealthy other items for random crazy projects. We need more accurate honesty.
Yes! When that started happening with my kids I calculated what I thought the needed for the year and only brought that. If the teachers didn't like they could say something but none never did.
Hi girl I been thinking about you as I start to make some changes trying to go through a pantry and clothes and closets as I have afib attack landed me in ICU and let out to see if it resets I now feel I need the declutter and org to the point the kids won't be so I overwhelmed but I gotta do a little at a time my back shoulders get to hurting and out of breath With a racing heart it thinks I running I think
I try not to use my credit card unless it is an emergency. I do pay the balance off every month. Lesson learned early in life. I wasted money by purchasing a new car bad decision.
My younger daughter was in many of the sports, I told her that I will only go to the local games. If they are far away I'm not going. They went by school bus every game but home. Hated dealing with the fund rauser, then there was buying the tshirts, pics etc it was something else. Glad those days are over. She's a married lady now, 37 has her own business, husband is an air force officer and a doctor and no kids. 😢😢😢.
Never say never about prices going down. There is a thing called "deflation" which indicates more problems in an economy than inflation. This aside, the 25 pound bags of oatmeal at Winco (a smaller multi state grocery chain) from a Montana mill have gone down in price at least 3 (maybe 4) times since April-ish 2022. Not a lot each time but from right under $20 to somewhere about $16.25. Some of thier other big bag stuff hasn't increased much in the past 2 years ( in the 5% range) and most have had a stable price for the past 9 to 12 months. - These products are not arriving from the 1 to 5 manufacturers who control 60% plus items on grocery shelves.
Going into s gas station to turn on the pump is a huge hassle credit card keeps you out of the valley of the heelots . Knuckle draggers frequent those places. They play loud nasty music act like they are owed something that I can't pay.

$1000 still keeps you from most disasters. It’s not meant to be a full emergency fund. Once your debt is paid off you need to bill it up.

I got rooked at a car show. $600 for a tenz unit. It felt like it turned the pain off. Found I could've gotten same one $160. Live and learn.
Living On A Dime To Grow Rich, You're the best! I just had to subscribe!
Awesome! Thank you!
Comment #3 for the night lol
We have health insurance through my husband’s union but this itemized billing now happens every single time. 🙄
Scooby snacks, what I call grocery store junk food. Buy your ice cream there too. $3 grocery store ice cream and 6 servings are handled.
I would do a mix of call in and tips
I know a channel guy that does comment call and talk’s about the comments people make on his previous videos
It is good now
Dave Ramsey’s no credit card rule ever, is one that I don’t agree with!
I keep can tuna and breakfast bars so I don't eat out..Taco bell gets
Hi girl I been thinking about you as I start to make some changes trying to go through a pantry and clothes and closets as I have afib attack landed me in ICU and let out to see if it resets I now feel I need the declutter and org to the point the kids won't be so I overwhelmed but I gotta do a little at a time my back shoulders get to hurting and out of breath
With a racing heart it thinks I running I think
I try not to use my credit card unless it is an emergency. I do pay the balance off every month. Lesson learned early in life. I wasted money by purchasing a new car bad decision.
Really close is nowhere near a total eclipse. I'm not a crier, but it is like nothing you've ever experienced before. Goose bump experience.
Rice pot saves a lot of money..
Ours is 864
I received a bill for a room charge to see my Dr. plus a copay. What a joke.
When I had a point in my life when I could not afford a house and a car I just used a bicycle until my finances were better
Good
Start a vegetable stand with your produce.
Going into s gas station to turn on the pump is a huge hassle credit card keeps you out of the valley of the heelots . Knuckle draggers frequent those places. They play loud nasty music act like they are owed something that I can't pay.
Sound is a bit messed up.
We love your rants! Make more rant videos…..
Maybe with your extra produce, have an honor pay stand at the end of your mom's driveway.
