This saved hours of work on my end. I was searching for ways to get this done. Initially made an impulse purchase of wonderdraft and almost started regretting it until I came across this. Thanks fam, remember, you saved a world and the protagonists by saving a DM
Thank you SO much! I had lost the hard drive i had my world saved on to and only had the base landwork kept, i managed to import it with your advice and i don't have to redesign a new land layout! Thank you so much!
This, together with the WASD20 comparison video, has actually convinced me to go ahead and start using WD for my map making. And this video in particular has answered the question of "can I convert my by now somewhat decent looking, hand-drawn map to an easy to use digital format?" so thanks for that!
I'm new to Wonderdraft and this is very helpful. Currentöy working on my 3rd map (which I want to write a story to). I know this video is already 2 years old, but thank you! 😁✨️🗺
Great tutorial! One additional tip: with the overlay, set the blend mode to "multiply". This will show the black lines and make the white background completely invisible.
Do you have a video will all the tools you are using? I have seen parts of the OneNote videos and now the Wonderdraft thing. It is really great to see what tools are out there. Maybe you can do a (short) video on all the tools you are using and maybe another one in the future where you talk about other available tools and what you like/don't like about them. It is really fun watching you and it really helps me as a returning DM to up my game simply by organizing my stuff better and have anything in one place (my pc) instead of binders, books and online resources. Keep up the awesome work!
So I have a map I have made in Inkarnate--but I want to transfer it into Wonderdraft (Your videos have convinced me to buy it!). I don't mind redoing all the "guts" but I really want to keep my outline if possible. How should I go about doing that?
Wonderdraft can import an image as a map. If you still have access to the inkarnate version, deleting the mountains forests and settlements so you just have the land and exporting that would make the process of getting it into WD easier. From there follow the steps in the video for importing the map and start rebuilding your natural features. If all you have access to is the final image, as long as there is enough contrast between the land and water you should still get the coast, you'll just need to fill in the features that WD believes are water.
Hi there. I have a few problems. Firstly do you need a mouse to draw with Wonderdraft. I also have a Huion tablet and I'm not sure if its going to work. Also, with importing a map can I use Sketchbook or Procreate to do this. I have a hand-drawn map and now I'm stuck! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Your video is the first decent help I've seen and yes, I have subscribed :-)
You don't need a mouse. I've used a mouse and my huion tablet. To import a map, you can either bring the image in as a layer that you can adjust transparency on, or you can have Wonderdraft convert the map (works best with just simple outline shapes and coastlines.)
Quick question. So I have an image of Russia I would like to transfer into Wonderdraft. If I use that image, will it work the same way as what is shown in the video?
It should do! Using the import function you should be able to take a digital image of Russia and pull it straight in. Depending on the colours of the original image it might take some tweaking but it's totally doable.
Thanks man I was struggling with importing a map graphic , quick and simple and nicely explained tutorial
I'm glad that you found it useful :D
i love the island of Austria you got there

Thanks so much! I've been depressed that I wasn't very good at recreating my hand drawn map. You've earned yourself a sub. :)
Thanks! I'm glad you found the video helpful!

What a nightmare scenario! Glad the video was able to help!

Came here to say more or less the same, this vid has given me the final push to buy WD. Thanks!!!
If this company is not paying you. They should i purchased this program just from watching your videos. Excellent work.
I'm just a big fan. The WD videos all seem to do quite well, so I keep making them :D I'm glad you liked the videos!

*Currently 😅
ah yes, the fabled island of Austria
and the other one more or less resembles an upside down Hungary
Great tutorial! One additional tip: with the overlay, set the blend mode to "multiply". This will show the black lines and make the white background completely invisible.
Sorry, I only discovered after commenting that Wonderdraft doesn't actually have multiply blend mode for overlays. Sad, because it very much needs it.

I have't got a video like that, but I can certainly put one together!
Thanks, very helpful!
Thank you so much for this tutorial
Thank god for tutorials
thank you so much for this!!
I always love your videos. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome. Hope you found it helpful!
Tip: If you have a B&W map, invert colors is easier (even paint has it). It works best for more complex maps. Nice tutorials though, keep it up.
Thank you for your content Icarus! Your tuto are always so helpful
You're very welcome. I'm glad you find them useful :)
Ah yes. The famous austrian island. I think a lot of us would probably like not being so surrounded
Just subscribed. This helps alot
Glad it helped!
I'm liking the look of Austria Island ;)
Oh wow, that is uncanny! Clearly Austria must have incepted me at some point in the past.
@@IcarusGames an upside down Hungary and its claims over Serbia might have also inception-ed you, strange that
I have tried importing, and overlaying, neither work. There is no error or anything. Just....nothing happens
The little island looks like Austria 😝

@@IcarusGames Thanks! I do have Inkarnate still so I can go in and contrast and erase all the "guts" of the map.

if I buy wonderdraft am I fored to use it on the same computer? or can I transfer to other computers that I use
I *think* you can use it across multiple machines but I'm not certain.
How did you zoom in?
Quick question. So I have an image of Russia I would like to transfer into Wonderdraft. If I use that image, will it work the same way as what is shown in the video?

@@IcarusGames Ok. Thank you! While we're at it, is it possible to inverse the map (Make the water land, and land water)?
I believe it's based on the colour of the image, messing with what's black and white in the original image should do it.
@@IcarusGames Oh, ok. Again. Thanks for the fast response!
Australia and Austria?
Sneaky austria in the bottom
Man I can't watch this guy^^ Maybe he reminds me of someone... hmm.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment even though you can't watch ;) let me know if you figure out who I remind you of!
