    I haven't fished for about 50 years (I'm 73 now), and I used to live nearby in Carshalton for many years, so I have lovely memories of the Wandle. It's sure had more than its fair share of polution over the years, so it's great to see it looking at least reasonable, and to know there are some good fish there. Very nice well filmed video which I really enjoyed.Happy fishing to you.

    Carp, pike, even shark and tuna, thats some spectacular fishing on your channel. But only a true fisherman will take all that trouble just for some mini species fishing. Loved it... keep it up!

    I am 55 now and barely see a gudgeon in my local canal anymore. I remember having gudgeon competitions when I was a kid and I think the record was over 100.

      They don’t live very long so I’m guessing maybe died out. And never recovered :(

    When I fish fast waters like this I find adding some gravel to my groundbait really helps with getting it to the bottom faster and in the area where I want it to be, especially when there's a deeper area within the swim I want to fish. It helps to avoid the smaller fish that are up in the water as well.
    Great fishing video 🙂🎣

    Great fishing..what super minnows..any river or water with a head of gudgeon in a thriving ecosystem.
    My biggest gudgeon was caught in a little holiday bamboo handled net...it was going on 15 cm...those were the days..

    One of my first fishing memories was when I was around 4 or 5 years old, whip fishing the cut with my grandad and we had over 400 gudgeon in an afternoon. I’ve only had 2 gudgeon out of the same stretch in 5 years. Good trip down memory Lane, cheers Alf 👍🏻

    Nice one Alfonzo, cool lil video clip that was mate, and a great reminder of how beautiful our smaller species are in the uk, the colors in the flanks of the Gudgeon in particular are fantastic, there’s a range of colors but not one individual one that you can put your finger on.

    our canals were full of gudgeon and ruff/ pope,,,,but now none zander put in the canals in the late 70,s illegal stocking by predator anglers meant gudgeon and ruff were wiped out from millions per mile to nothing ,its nice to see they are still viable as a species ,,

    I know this part of the river Wandle, very well, I used to work around colliers wood, if you walk further down the river from where you were fishing,, there are some terrific trout looking swims, but be careful of the European anglers

    Why is it acceptable to lob gudgeon, dace and other small fish from 3 feet in the air back into the water but have to kiss carp whilst you're groin deep in cold water to make sure it is safe?

      What? Carp are not as aerodynamic as gudgeon?@@Dodgybackjack

    • @Dodgybackjack
      @Dodgybackjack Год назад +4

      @@stevejeffrey7948 kinetic energy < binding energy. The size of the fish (& terminal velocity) plays a bigger part than species. A lot of North American lakes are restocked by plane drop. Refer to Bell & DeLacey (1972)
