Busta Rhymes & Leaders Of The New School Break-up on Yo! Raps (1993)

- The rap group shows signs of tension and actually breaks up on camera. They weren't even able to finish this segment and disbanded soon after this shoot. I think that Busta Rhymes kid went on to have a decent career afterwards.
"Please don't film this, B"...at least Busta was polite about it. I now get what really happened, that it wasn't Busta just sh*tting on them all. They always had problems.
I understand why Busta was so motivated. He had kids to feed and the others didnt
“RAAAR!!! RAAAR!!! Like a dungeon dragon....!!!!” and it was officially over!
Once Busta dropped that verse on Scenario, he became one of the rappers in the center of attention and a fan favorite in Hip Hop. In the streets, you could feel the momentum of his career and stardom revving up. The Scenerio remix was highly anticipated because of Busta's outbreak on the original song. Although It is a Tribe Called Quest song featuring The Leaders of the New School, Tribe accepted the background role and allowed Busta to enjoy his coming out party. Charlie Brown couldn't accept Busta's fame. He should have absorbed Busta's energy, and channeled it into creating extraordinary music. Instead, he consumed himself in jealousy, sunk into depression, and therefore throw away a promising extended music career. All because of Busta's fame, such a shame.

Busta was the only reason they signed the group. Without him the label didnt want to fuck with Dinco and CB
Well said I agree completely
I've been told folks that Charlie Brown split that group up.
@@TheMoonlitArcade I dunno about CB, after Busta CB was the most popular member. People liked him but not as much as Busta.
Busta ruled. It was obvious he was the star. His voice and delivery are legendary. On the Arsenio Hall show Busta stole it when his part came up.
It's the same exact problem a lot of bands had. One of them gets all the attention. They are a team, they supposed to shine together. He should have went and did his own thing when he started stealing the show if the others weren't okay with being second bananas
Busta was just the obvious star of the group imo. He really shined on Sobb Story and Scenario. Charlie was a close second because he had charisma and was very animated as well. I thought him and Busta were neck and neck on some tracks like Case Of The PTA. Lyrically tho Busta was just better. He came with it on every track. His thoughts seemed more well formed when he rhymed. I remember reading Busta talking about having his first kid and just feeling the need to go all out to get the money and the others just not having the same drive. Crazy how long Busta been in the game. Salute to all of them. Dinco Dee and the Rumplestilskin dude.
Busta Rhymes, Charlie Brown, Dinco D, and Milo in the Dance. Jeronimo is the one from the Rumpletilskinz
RIP Jeranimo 🫡
Busta was 2 live to be around em, obviously breakin up did him hella good!
I DON'T THINK BUSTA WAS HOGGING THE SCREEN....(I WATCHED THE ORIGINAL AIRING)....HE WAS JUST MORE CHARISMATIC THAN THE OTHERS AND CHARISMA DRAWS PEOPLE (INTERVIEWERS) TO YOU
Idk why Charlie was so jealous of Busta anyway. After all, He's the bright boy who decide to let a cat who beat him in a battle to join HIS crew. Charlie was always the weak link of the crew anyway. Remember that Pinnochio Theory song from the first album? Eccchhh! No wonder Busta went on the rise.
Jack Off
You're definitely right about Milo. His DJin' was way better than his rhymes, though. I was listening to "Future" one day with my co-worker back in '92 and he was like the beats are def, but what are they saying.
+Jack Atkinson Damn you sound like a real hater, smh C boogie brown got right on the mic man, Busta aint make them 2 lons albums by himself. Plus c brown was the one who brought the group together.. & you right he did let someone who beat him join the crew but im pretty sure it was the 80s when that happened, & pinnochio theory is a great song ..peace my brother
Whoa, slow down,@Maleek Pate. I ain't hatin' on Charlie, I'm just sayin' he could have handled Busta's growing popularity a little better than he did. And as for "Pinocchio" itself, it wasn't a bad song per se--but it's like I posted earlier...the beats were awesome--bad ass even--but what was he sayin'? I guess all I was really tryin' to say was is that "Pinocchio" didn't have that same oomph and timeless quality as "Case of the PTA" or "Zone Coaster" did, and compared to the rest of the joints on "Future" it was a real low point for me, that's all. And to be really honest, I felt Busta's solo joint "Feminine Fatt" was kinda iffy too, so I'm not just blindly backin' Busta. I hope that clears it up for you, G.
+Jack Atkinson yeah it did, you right homie ✊🏾
I remember watching this episode, live, on TV. Man, what an era Hip Hop in the 90's was.
Word. I really miss those days. The music was PURE back then. Nowadays finding quality Hip-Hop is like finding a $100.00 bill on the ground.
@@andrewmilton4679 so true..I watched it live and knew something was wrong..I even bumped into Charlie out in long island and he didn't want to comment on it..I knew from there something was wrong..after that we started hearing Busta go solo around 1994/95 on mix-tapes(prequel to his 1st album). Being from east NY/Brownsville i still bump real hip hop downtown Brooklyn for the "new" New Yorkers(hipsters) so they can hear real hiphop and not this self destructive, mumble mouth, drug addict, engineered rap being passed off for hip-hop. I miss when we had knowledge of self and understood self preservation..hip hop was so pure before you know who tampered with it..peace
@LOGICAL-JAY Let's talk about it one of the big issues going on with today's youth is knowledge of self is a non-existenting thing. It's so bad you got this hate and evil vibes going on. I'm hearing stories about the jealous men shooting the black women in the head. You see video about young black girls talking about being black is trash shit that we never heard before some of these young girls got a evil hate towards black men because they don't see a black man in the house hold. Some thing with the younger black men talking about Becky is better then the Queen. You got black man punching black women in the face in Chicago over food in line and he get shot in the back. Just all type weirdo shit going on in the spaces .
I remember watching the original. Busta was a breakout star and the rest of the group knew it too. I watched another interview with Busta and he stated that he really wanted to be with ATCQ.
@Domo Jones they BOTH said it was real close to happening, so...(Kamaal and Busta)
@@dwayneturner9395 they almost kinda did. the dragon album
What people tend to forget is Busta was basically in limbo between the group’s breakup in 1993 and 1995 when he finally put of his solo debut “The Coming”. Between those years was a series of “guest appearances” on another artist’s track.
Busta said it was because he really didn't want to go solo, he enjoyed being in a crew, doing his 16 bars and moving on....
That’s crazy to even think about, look at the shit he did during his solo career, shit is crazy
@@peedanie lol "in limbo"
yeah he pretty much had to take any opportunity that was given to him in between that time.
@@whooelse9444 Yeah. I don’t want to be blunt, but Busta was arguably the best rapper in that group. It’s like he was gasoline tossed in a fire! I remember two songs “Oh My God” by the Tribe and “What’s Next” by LONS. In the first one, QTip and Phife Dawg were doing their usual harmonizing and Busta just had a chorus of only three words, but he literally “spiced” the song! In the other, he did the introductory bars, but again, boom, but as Charlie and the rest did their bars, the song slowly weakened.
...And then he did the "Flavor in Your Ear Remix," took off and never looked back ...
No.. and then he put out a solo album with woo ha and he blew up
@@dasun13 That's what I said, his album came out in 1996, "Flavor in Your remix" was 1994, right after he broke up with LONS in 1993
He actually was on Tribe's Midnight Marauders album right before that in 1993 on "Oh My God" and "One, Two shit"

Busta was the Michael to their Jackson 5. The Beyonce to their Destinys child.... they were never heard from again....
The Diana to their supremes
R kelly to the public announcement
@@shangog9200 LOL bingo 😂
Beyonce had the least amount of talent of the 3. Mostly marketed off of her looks.
Beyonce was *artificially* pushed as the star; they fired members who outshined her, they gave Beyonce most of the lead vocals even when she wasn't the best singer, they used to have members that were far more charismatic in front of the camera, not to mention all the other strings her father pulled as the group's manager.
Busta said he never wanted to go solo but his hand was forced. He still repped L.O.N.S. on his first solo. (The LONS chain on the back cover).
Either way, both futre and T.I.M.E. are classics. Time was my fave album of 1993
Yes
Thanks for the upload. Now I know how it went down.
I remember watching the original airing of this. Time flies b😂😂
After scenario, the writing was on the wall. I remember watching yo when this happened & im like "wow, really is this happening on national tv?"
Damn. I was 21 years old in 1993. Lol..... This was my direct era and generation of hip hop, because the majority of the 1990s Rapper were in my age bracket, and I pretty much seen the majority of the top big named Rappers throughout the 90s decade in the NYC clubs, those were the best times of my life
Just here because of Buss’ Drink Champs interview. ☺️🐉
You got some good videos. You should make more
@Kandaka Long 😍😍😍😍😍
No she don't thirsty ass ninja.
Also, we have to remember that they formed as kids. Literal kids. Hank Shocklee said that they were already under their wing in the Nation Of Million days, 15 and 16 years old hanging around the studio...
🤔🤦🏿♂️
T.I.M.E is my all time fav hip hop album evvver. Fire from first 2 last track. And let's never forget the spontaneous cypher 13 mcs deep. Fucking gold man.
Spontaneous is the best posse cut track of all time imo
It hurts to know after that album they broke up! Like 3rd Bass with "Derelicts of a Dialect"! And that album was definitely amazing!
Facts. It was ahead of its time (pun intended). Everybody was jocking west coat, and with good reason, and T.I.M.E. got lost in the shuffle.
It was a masterpiece, but way toooo esoteric for the masses, especially mid-1990s. By then, with Puff Daddy and the West Coast sound moving in, Hip Hop was changing, and not for the better.
I love Charlie Brown too he had a very unique flow
I remember watching this episode when it 1st aired.
I remember this like yesterday 27 years later Busta is a legend and just dropped some more heat while the haters never recovered Busta is on everyone's top 15 greatest ever some ppl top 10
Great comment.
@@BLAZENYCBLACKOPS 🙌🏿🙌🏿
I read on some site that even when they got together, before Mt. Airy Groove, Busta left and CB had to get him back in. This happened a bunch of times until Dante Ross told Busta he has a chance to go solo.
The label was offering to let CB go solo but CB refused to work under the same label as Busta
@@TheMoonlitArcade prolly felt Busta would outshine him & he woulda been correct.
In a group no matter how nice or good you are someone is going to outshine or be others favorite. As nice as Wu-Tang was all of them could hold their own method Man was the straight up star because the fellas and honeys dug his style!!!
cheers mate
thanks for uploading this. The AR guy for New School just talked about this on Gilles Peterson's show.
Crazy how when we're young and trying to get some exposure that nothing break us up until one of us get more pub than another. It happens in R&B groups all the time since the beginning thanks to 2 factors. 1 record industry and 2 everyone's work ethic. Busta talked about when he was ALWAYS in the Stu with ATCQ or anyone spitting bars as he said, "The Illest always went Last!" so that's why Busta got so much love.
Dinco's the homie. He's in my "Warrior" video. He still records as well.
I always thought Charlie sounded like a sports commentator. He's a hugely underrated MC.
I liked Charlie back in the day but now I can see his shit was kinda corny. One of the good rappers that just didn't transition well into the mid-90s.
@@jonhartley9667 Exactly. Hip hop was getting more and more hardcore (for better or worse is debatable). Look how hard Busta ended up being. I think the break up was inevitable somewhere down the road. Busta got super hard. Dinco D seems like the kind of rapper that other rappers like listening to. Good voice, smooth flow. Charlie Brown had a good flow and everything, but he was cartoony and a bit of a jester. Ain't nothing wrong with that, but it just didn't fit in with the overall flavour of 90's and beyond hip hop.
Other artists were kinda the same in that there was a lot of comedy to their art. Biz Markie, The Beastie Boys, and Digital Underground to name just a few. All absolute legends to hip hop historians and long time fans of the genre. But sadly Biz Markie kinda faded into the history books, as did Digital Underground. Beastie Boys consistently put out great albums, but a lot of the hip hop listeners never paid them much attention beyond their hardcore, dedicated fan base.
@@jonhartley9667
I wouldn't say Charlie's style was corny.... his style was more of a FUN RELAXED flow.
He just wasn't a DROP KNOWLEDGE type like Jeru.
Or a STREET POET type like Nas.
@@jonhartley9667 Charlie started to change it up a little bit on the second leaders album. He was still kinda stuck in the late 80s-very early 90s rap style though.
@@SuperDaveSo Biz Markie after "Weekend Warrior" just didn't continue. His album "All Samples Clear" was a okay album! He only had three good albums outta his career! "I Need a Haircut" was his best sample wise though it never gotten that much attention and was underrated
Busta is the greatest he needed to accept it
Busta and the other three squashed the beef.
..and then Busta became a mega star in hip-hop, and the others found independent careers and signed with Invisible Records.
Only Dinco had an independent career. I don't think Charlie released anything
Like I always say, most groups end up breaking up due to money, or over who gets the most camera time. Very few groups stay together with their original line up
wu
You mean most BLACK groups ....EGO
@@edwinotieno9470its money not ego. Take a group of poor black men put them in a group and they blow up. Next thing you know industry agents come up to individuals within the group saying "you know if you left and went solo you can make millions!" and everyone is naive thinking yeah that sounds perfect only to realize later in life they would've been more successful staying together. Hard to blame them especially in the 90s they didn't know any better
Idk how old busta was there but this dude still had that god persona.

Every group has a breakout star. That one member that stands out from the rest...That was Busta. Charlie Brown "wanted" to be that; he'd have left real fast if he was hot but he wasn't. It's obvious because.....Busta is still here.
Whos breakout in wutang?

I can definitely understand Brown being bummed about how things went down. He founded the group and was pretty much the leader so to get put in someone's shadow would've been pretty demoralizing. He still could've handled it better though. Even though Busta was becoming a star, Brown could've started really bringing it and I'm sure he could've earned some more of the recognition he wanted if he hadn't decided to be petty.
Busta was always the star
Busta Rhymes looked like he wanted to mangle that nigga @ 0:26 lol

I would loved to.see."Charlie Brown" drop some music solo. Get the same notoriety like "Busta" maybe the 2 could do a feature on a song together on both solo albums.
Once Busta dropped his scenario verse on Arsenio Hall TLOTNS were basically done.
Well, Busta evidently made the right move
Definitely one of the most "SAD" breakups in Music History 💯💯💯! They were building on 3rd Eye Level that would've helped save "Humanity" especially in America! They were maturing quick due to there awareness as youths but still made classic material as rookies! I truly wish they could've worked it out💯. Yeah, Busta did well as a solo artist but he by himself is not the overall POWER of what L.O.N.S👑 would've/could've been at that time💯 and now💯. Even the "Rolling Stones" had Beef but they kept the Musical Vibe Going! #DoNTSLeep #LuvFromWestCoast #FutureWithNoPast🏆 #InnerMindzEye👑

What's this documentary called?
In thier 2nd and final album, Charlie Brown's inflections and tone, he literally sounded like Charlie Parker's trumpet. CB, in my humble opinion, was a lyrical genius as good as Busta, but too ego driven and no direction. I was waiting for Charlie Brown's solo album in the mid 90s.
