- Let's do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful. Today Bruce McCurdy and David Staples dig into Evander Kane's successful surgery and long-term injury, as well as the Oilers losing twice in one night to the Calgary Flames.
Thank you guys for what you do!
Love the show, I've been watching several years now.. ❤👍💪
Thanks guys. Looking forward to a great season with you both.
All the preseason games should have been broadcast on Sportsnet.
Only some alas although I will be able to watch the TSN broadcast of the Oilers' upcoming game against Winnipeg Jets. I've yet to get a subscription to Oilers+ and don't know if I will.
I post this every year somewhere - but it bears repeating (I should just copy and paste this lol). My fav team growing up - back before OT was a thing, and when there were 13 (THIRTEEN) preseason games - went through preseason with only 1 loss (I think there were 3 or 4 ties in there too) and that loss was the last game they played, in Tulsa, OK against their farm team - and they lost 3 to 2. They won their season opener against Chicago - 6 to 2 - the next game they won (not played WON) was 5 to 3 at home to the Colorado Rockies (Now the NJD) about a week before Christmas! The WPG Jets of 80/81 set an NHL record, going 30 games without a win.
My point - preseason means absolutely nothing and I learned that lesson very well over 40 years ago. Ever since then - I don't even pay attention to it other than if there are any interesting prospects looking good.
At the time of the Offer Sheets, the Oilers knew Kane was getting surgery. The procedure was delayed a few weeks to ensure that he was out for the entire season.
I think podkolzin will make the team…I like him and I really like that young clattenberg…he’s going to be a handful as he grows!…fiesty and has skill!
I wish the Oilers had an NHL ready version of Clattenburg , the amount of sandpaper and physicality lost in the off-season is not being talked out enough in addition to the loss of Kane, any team contending for the cup does not lack in this department, it's non negotiatable I don't care how much people want to lecture about anayltics, look at the last 5 cup winners
I'll list them right now without googling :
Caps
Blues
Tampa Bay
Vegas
Florida
People that think having 1 guy like Nurse in the lineup are sadly mistaken on how the game of hockey is played
Wasting a PTO on Hoffman is confusing to me about this organization, why not give it to a player like ........hold your breath, Austin Wastin or Matt Martin, the Oilers are fully loaded on soft skill
Meaningless games except to maybe 5 players out of 40. Leave it to ridiculous fans to overreact.
With the Oilers now in a position to abuse the LTIR loophole similar to what Vegas and the Lightning did pretty much assures that the NHL will make an amendment to that rule this year!
A healthy Kane would of put the oilers over the top! We need him back for playoffs!
Nothing to worry about. Edmonton has the best team in the NHL, they just don’t have two.
I'd rather they have these types of games in pre-season than in the regular season.
Hopefully, it'll serve to kick them in the butt and they work out the kinks sooner than later.
No slumps to start the season, thank you.
They s**t the bed!
I was a little disappointed in Picard…he did not have a good game…a couple of those goals he could have had but he didn’t have any help on the left side at all!
Considering we need 30+ games from him, I hope to hell he’s just working out the kinks!
You lose and blame effort pretty funny considering players on both ends are trying to win a job.
I'd rather watch MNF...
Why don’t the oilers make an offer sheet to swayman ?…why not?…we can afford it now with Kane being out most of the season!
Swayman wants 8 mil. Oilers will have a fraction of Kane's 5 mil if he comes back in Jan or Feb ...
@@jax1580 that’s a lot but maybe if an offer was made he might just take it!…I understand Kane will be out as much as 6 months!…might not be back until playoffs!…I think I would give it a try!…he’s a really good goalie!
I was actually thinking the same thing but about a different team in the NHL.. why doesn't somebody offer sheet him and have #1 goalie
@@TheGreatJustino1check out compensation packages for offer sheeting an 8+ million dollar player.
We can't afford $10 million and the loss of draft picks would be crippling. And even if oilers could manage those issues, why would you pay that much for a guy who hasn't played 60 nhl games?
Didn't see the game, just the lowlights. Just preseason, and good thing, because most of the Oilers prospects looked horrid.
