I miss ya Smoke, I always loved the way you raced, and how you'd roast the reporters with stupid questions. Always good stuff anytime Smoke is getting interviewed.
@Kqvic I think hes well aware that fans find excitement in the crashes, but the reporter was questioning the safety of the sport itself. I think its fantastic that you can see a multicar pileup in a race and not have to worry about any of the drivers receiving significant injury.
I am not a Stewart fan but you gotta love his smart ass answers when people ask him really stupid questions or the things he comes up with like saying that David Ragan was like a "dart without feathers"
@crookhunter Here's the thing. 1. He kinda is the defending champion. 2. He IS the car owner, he says who stays and who goes. 3. Darian knew before the Chase started he wouldn't have a job
NASCAR became too safe in my opinion when NASCAR put that side spoiler (on the left side of the car) . I mean when they full extended it to the back decklid.
Have you seen him outside of the reporters stand and outside the track. He is a very nice person is donates to numerous charities and visits his fans as much as he can.
That was fucking hilarious...Im a Harvick fan but will pull for Tony over almost anybody else, those two are great. "The media center gotten boring with your chairs having 4 legs...maybe we should start sawing legs off" Classic
@NotMiceElf123 Agreed. If you're in Tony's shoes, someone who's been through some of the craziest crashes in the history of NASCAR, and has seen the worst, you can understand how he feels about NASCAR's safety policy.
I like those racers because they have class. They have been around for a while to know whats going on. Lets not forget The Labonte brothers, Ken Schrader, Mike Skinner and the list goes on.
Tony Stewart is the man, that is all you can say. But what I was really impressed about Tony is that he didn't add his usual "snarkyness," he responded clear and to the point. Now as a true NASCAR fan I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that Dale Jarrett, a veteran of the sport did not say what this reporter thought he said. There is no way any driver would think that fans would like to see them get hurt. My guess is is that Jarrett's supposed comment was taken way out of context.
You all should know this before commenting: that was not the reporter opinion. She was just passing on what Dale Jarrett said early and was asking Tony's opinion about that. She is not the one to blame.
Oh of course I agree with you, I just didn't want to list the names of the best racers in NASCAR today. Anyway Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, Mark Martin, and Elliot Sadler are really good racer's!
part of the draw is the risk factor. nascar has virtualy removed that aspect of the sport. tony beiong tony should have honestly answered what he really thought .
"I have to say, some people clearly have their mind stuck in a continuous left turn loop... the reporter was quoting Dale Jarret... and asking his opinion on 'why fans were turned off'. Where the reporter failed was to find a quick come back for his counter punch." - Read this before commenting. That was a quote from another driver. A QUOTE.
A person that sits at home watching Speed Channel hoping to see a crash is just some punter watching TV for entertainment. A race Fan is someone who buys a ticket and goes to the track to soak up the atmosphere meet and greet other fans and their favourite driver and enjoy the day. They want to see on the edge racing not see someone get badly hurt or worse. Race cars of ALL types are today much safer and stronger than ever, some accidents you just cannot prepare for:- TOP answer
I agree with Tony, but this season, the Sprint Cup Series is a little boring, but I don't wan't drivers to get hurt. For example, when there was a big crash at 'Dega this year in the Nationwide Series and Eric McClure got hurt, I was glad there was some action, but terribly sad that a driver got hurt.
I have to say, some people clearly have their mind stuck in a continuous left turn loop... the reporter was quoting Dale Jarret... and asking his opinion on 'why fans were turned off'. Where the reporter failed was to find a quick come back for his counter punch. But then again - judging by the tone of some - neither would they.
Smoke's the guy--love his response. Was a stupid reporter and he put her in her place in a nice tactful way :) NasCar isn't about driver's crashing or getting hurt and she was stupid to even go in that direction with him! If there's anyone to answer that, it is Smoke--and he dang well did the best job answering!
Fuckin' A......That was absolutely spot on. Nice answer. Even better was his follow up about telling all the reporters to log that answer in their archives anytime they want to ask him that question again.
how did you get Jeff Burton on your list. Or '4 years Jeff' ... He goes out and wins one race every four years. And then another four years go by. So he is close to being due for another win since 2008 ...
Tony is absolutely right! Everybody makes stupid comments, but the drivers are the ones having their asses on the line everyday. Things are NEVER "too safe" in a race track. Stupid question...
Lane Hackman Spoken by a guy that went on to kill another dirt track driver who wasn't even in his car. And don't tell me about the THC in the other guy's system. Tony killed him on purpose.
@gtcochran1 yeah and so do guys who race in the baja except you actually have obsticals not a paved circle or endurance races, rally races it actually takes skill
Frankly i think NASCAR is starting to sacrafice compatition for "safety features" that arn't really needed. Like the new racing at Daytona and Talladega, yeah it's safer but a hell of a lot more boring than it used to be, and no racing back to the yellow flag. when Carl Edwards can bounce off one car, roll along the fence, roll down the track than jump out and run across the start/finish line, that means the cars r pretty damn safe. anyways just my opinion, video was still funnier n hell
Are you paying attention? lol Tony's right on the mark! No REAL Nascar fan wants anyone to get hurt. In fact, safety measures have made the sport even better...But this IS racing, isn't it? So, by definition, it's dangerous! The safety measures, like the Safer Barrier, COT (tomorrow or today, take your choice), etc, means that the drivers can race hard and still literally walk away, i.e., JJ's Busch crash into the tire wall, Carl's flip at 'dega...need I say more?
Part of why he said that was because he didn't like Her one bit. He talked about her on Dinners with Racers and said that all she did was show up and stir the pot in the media. Try to create headlines that weren't there.
NASCAR has become very boring, People do like to see a good crash now and then, We don't want anyone to get hurt, but people do like a good crash. It has become too safe, I mean think about it, If a driver is scared then maybe that's not the job for them. Nobody makes any driver get behind that wheel. Put some excitement back in Nascar and trash those restrictor plates
@DTownzz "Couth" is a word dude, I'm not sure any word with a negative prefix such as "un" isn't a word without the prefix. But I agree with the rest of your statement.
One issue oval racing has is they no longer go faster each year. I remember in the heyday of Indy when Rick Mears was hitting 245mph down the straits then soon after they slowed the cars down at least 20mph or more in the name of safety. I am all in favor of driver safety but fans wanna see cars go faster then they did the year before, not slower. I think this is why oval has become boring,we been watching cars go pretty much the same speed now for ten years or longer.
Get in your car somewhere, get up to 110 /115 mph.. Feels pretty fast.. Imagine going double that speed and crashing. How the hell could someone think this stuff is to safe??
Great answer none of the fans want to see only one hurt . Did you ever work at or drive at watsonviille in the 70 years thank you for all the years of fun Mary gleason in calif
That's only Indycars, Atheistprimate. Stock cars are still getting faster each year. I wish you wouldn't put it all under 'oval racing' as stock car racing is very different to indycar racing. In fact, indycars go to more road courses than ovals now.
This is what Steward is such an awesome person. He's not afraid to speak his mind, but I think he's right on this issue. I wish NASCAR could have retained some more features from the old car, but overall, I'm glad the cars are safer, even if the races are not as exciting now, but hopefully NASCAR will be able to tweak things to have BOTH safety and crazy races. Stewart is the anti-Johnson, and I hope he wins the championship this year considering how far Gordon is back and really has no shot.
We don't even want to see the driver we despise the most, get hurt. We don't want to see anybody get hurt. Unless it's after the race in the pits and it's a fight lol
I'm pretty sure there ARE plenty of NASCAR fans who watch it for the most part just to see a cool looking crash. It's kind of Psych 101. It's common sense that part of the excitement is in the cars going fast and the high probability of some sort of crash. Without those two things, all you have is four left turns, over and over. It's not so much wanting to see them get hurt, it's more of seeing a crash that can always peek human interest. It's a barbaric instinct, but an instinct, nonetheless.
I miss ya Smoke, I always loved the way you raced, and how you'd roast the reporters with stupid questions. Always good stuff anytime Smoke is getting interviewed.
I lost my respect for Tony Stewart when he ran over and killed Kevin Ward
How can you even ask such a stupid question. And to ask smoke! Wow that took balls😂
In her defense she wanted to see his reaction to something Dale Jarrett said, not her own opinion
Go Smoke! Haha, sorry, he's not my favourite driver, but I love the way he talks straight up in interviews :D
"What do you think about that? Do you like that idea?" hahahahahaha
Tony Stewart is one of the last true racers in NASCAR today, great to see him win the title last year!
It’s been 10 years??????????????? Wow time flies
Props to Smoke for telling it like it is. Racing whether it is American style or European style will NEVER be "too safe".
So fans are saying "Nascar's becoming too safe" and it needs more danger. I wonder if any of those fans rooted for Dale Earnhardt
good job Tony...your life is important to us...not the dumb stories they try to manufacture all the time...thanks for being real!!!
lmfao "are you paying attention??" I adore him
@Kqvic I think hes well aware that fans find excitement in the crashes, but the reporter was questioning the safety of the sport itself. I think its fantastic that you can see a multicar pileup in a race and not have to worry about any of the drivers receiving significant injury.
after watching this...how can you not love Tony?!!!!
Tony’s media center press conferences were funny sometimes
I am not a Stewart fan but you gotta love his smart ass answers when people ask him really stupid questions or the things he comes up with like saying that David Ragan was like a "dart without feathers"
@crookhunter Here's the thing. 1. He kinda is the defending champion. 2. He IS the car owner, he says who stays and who goes. 3. Darian knew before the Chase started he wouldn't have a job
I don't even watch or like NASCAR but Stewart's response was simply awesome.
Why would fans want to see drivers get seriously harmed or injured?
If I were that reporter, I probably would've cried. lol.
I gotta tell ya, Tony Stewart use to be my least favourite driver, but over the years he's smartened up a whole lot
I randomly thought about this clip and decided to go look for it. This is brilliant!
NASCAR became too safe in my opinion when NASCAR put that side spoiler (on the left side of the car) . I mean when they full extended it to the back decklid.

Damn, you could tell he really wanted to let her have it for even _thinking_ about asking something that ridiculous.
i watched this as this happens and i loved when tony said that
@NotMiceElf123 Agreed. If you're in Tony's shoes, someone who's been through some of the craziest crashes in the history of NASCAR, and has seen the worst, you can understand how he feels about NASCAR's safety policy.
If I was in the same press room as Tony, I’d laugh uncontrollably.
I like those racers because they have class. They have been around for a while to know whats going on. Lets not forget The Labonte brothers, Ken Schrader, Mike Skinner and the list goes on.
The Bobby Knight of Nascar. No Doubt!
Tony Stewart is the man, that is all you can say. But what I was really impressed about Tony is that he didn't add his usual "snarkyness," he responded clear and to the point. Now can someone explain to me why Tony Stewart has never been nominated for entertainer of the year? Society now a days...
tony is the funniest damn driver ive ever seen haha ive heard him do the same thing in person at a sprint car race jesus hes funny
clodge631992
I saw him murder a driver at a sprint car race.
@@staggerlee4979 whatever 🤡
He's the Bob Knight of NASCAR. I love it.
Smoke = brilliant driver
Ross Per Minute
Like killing a driver whos walking on the dirt track.
GO TONY!
That response was quality haha
Conor Francis
As was him murdering a driver at a cheap dirt track.
part of the draw is the risk factor. nascar has virtualy removed that aspect of the sport. tony beiong tony should have honestly answered what he really thought .

Tom " i dont know how im gonna follow that up"... thoughts in his head.. damn she took my question!.. lol
Well to each their own. But that does lead me to the question; if you find NASCAR so boring, why did you end up watching this video?
@NotMiceElf123 She's talking about the COT not the old car.
No one is funnier when he's mad than Tony Stewart
I have to say, some people clearly have their mind stuck in a continuous left turn loop... the reporter was quoting Dale Jarret... and asking his opinion on 'why fans were turned off'.
Where the reporter failed was to find a quick come back for his counter punch.
But then again - judging by the tone of some - neither would they.
@judyneric He didn't say people don't want to see wrecks he said he doesn't think fans want to see their favorite drivers get HURT!
Smoke's the guy--love his response. Smoke smokes another reporter.. LOL! As a race fan, I hope my driver (#14 Tony Stewart) never gets hurt or any other driver!!
A stupid question deserves a stupid a answer
Lane Hackman
Spoken by a guy that went on to kill another dirt track driver who wasn't even in his car. And don't tell me about the THC in the other guy's system. Tony killed him on purpose.
Check out the video of my Tony Stewart #14 swimming pool!
@gtcochran1 yeah and so do guys who race in the baja except you actually have obsticals not a paved circle or endurance races, rally races it actually takes skill
I would love to watch the whole press conference, is it online somewhere?
Title is exactly right, Tony owns her.
Frankly i think NASCAR is starting to sacrafice compatition for "safety features" that arn't really needed. Have you ever actually paid attention to the racing in the sport? It's second to none.
This did not age well
Like him or not...smoke is the most honest driver in nascar today on and off the track.
Are you paying attention? lol Tony's right on the mark! No REAL Nascar fan wants anyone to get hurt. In fact, safety measures have made the sport even better...But this IS racing, isn't it? and he winked after he cussed her off bout the question!
Lmao at the 4 legs on the chair comment. I'm not a big Tony fan but that was funny.
I'd have to say the BTCC is #1 for overall excitement per mile. But that just gets a little dry to watch a full race.
Put her in the driver’s seat in a race car without seatbelts... that will answer her question.
happytappyslappy
Put her on a dirt track out of her car and Tony will run her over.
a dumb question receives a dumb answer
So, did anyone else notice that the crawl at the bottom of the screen starts with "LUGER DIES"?
he turned the question into something it wasn't.
Part of why he said that was because he didn't like Her one bit. He talked about her on Dinners with Racers and said that all she did was show up and stir the pot in the media. Try to create headlines that weren't there.
hahaha the reporter was like uhhhhhhh.... LOL
I don't like Stewart, but that answer was just epic.
That's how most of the drivers need to be. I mean, who wants those sponsor dominated ragdolls like Jimmie Johnson, huh??
NASCAR has become very boring, People do like to see a good crash now and then, We don't want anyone to get hurt, but people do like a good crash. But I agree with the rest of your statement.
Did I here that right " you got to mate man"?
im pretty sure the dale earnhardt would disagree that its too safe.
His solution is definitely an innovative one.
That was uncalled for...she only asked a question. He is ridiculous.
I agree, catch him at a dirt track and he's a regular guy! He's a racer, not a PR man.
aaaaa0000000000
Catch him at a dirt track and he's a cold blooded murderer.
11 people don't have back pockets to put that in.
@hellbound64 Is hellbound64 getting upset 'cuz his mommy is currently hellbound69 at my house?
"Too safe" LMFAO. She asked an extremely stupid question and Tony Stewart gave a perfect, smart ass remark!
One issue oval racing has is they no longer go faster each year.
I remember in the heyday of Indy when Rick Mears was hitting 245mph down the straits then soon after they slowed the cars down at least 20mph or more in the name of safety.

She was looking for a headline.
awsome answer to stupid question, motorsport can never be too safe as ther are types of accidents that are so rare it is hard to prepare for them
Where have you been? :)
Great answer none of the fans want to see only one hurt . Did you ever work at or drive at watsonviille in the 70 years thank you for all the years of fun Mary gleason in calif
Mary Gleason
Tony cared about safety so much he ran over a driver at a piece of crap dirt track.
Protect smoke at all costs
That's only Indycars, Atheistprimate. Stock cars are still getting faster each year. I wish you wouldn't put it all under 'oval racing' as stock car racing is very different to indycar racing. In fact, indycars go to more road courses than ovals now.
@TonyDanza4Lyfe I'm sorry, are you unfamiliar with Jamie Little?
This is what Steward is such an awesome person. He's not afraid to speak his mind, but I think he's right on this issue. Jeez what a fuckin badass! does he always have to have a smartass attitude with the media?
We don't even want to see the driver we despise the most, get hurt. We don't want to see anybody get hurt. Unless it's after the race in the pits and it's a fight lol

@jerrettfan
That's not being a crybaby. That's sticking up for your favorite driver. You would do the same for Dale Jarrett.
lol tony tells it like it is
can anyone transcribe or explain me what happened?
