I think the show has gotten a lot better, especially in the last few episodes leading up to the season finale...I find myself not cringing like I did in season one. The fight scenes are really good and the acting has improved as a whole. Plus Will Tudor is an absolutely brilliant actor, perfect for the role of Sebastian (even if the real Jonathan looks like a burnt lasagna)

I honestly forced myself to watch season 1 because I was seeing malec everywhere. But season two started and it's honestly the best. Season one is cringey season two is awesome. So I want to pretend season one never happened.

Chip Hawkings I honestly agree with this comment. I think that the second season is better than the first one and the movie because they have better actors, a better storyline and it's more enjoyable and addicting with all the fighting and stuff
I personally really like how Jace was crying and Alec comforted him on the rooftop, I thought it was a good way to show their relationship

Magnus did not have a temper tantrum. Nope stop right there. He was hurt. As he explained, he had shared everything about himself and been vunrable around Alec like he hasn't around anyone and therefore showed that he trusted Alec. Alec broke that trust.
I also loved the scene where Rafael was like: "I dont like this guy" and Meliorn was like:"Who, Jace?" And Raf was like:"Thats not Jace!" Meliorn: "Oh... They all seem the same to me" I LAUGHED SO HARD.
I KEPT REPLAYING "DINNER IS SERVED" AND I WAS LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY IN THAT PART OF THE EPISODE. OF ALL THE THINGS YOU COULD HAVE SAID VALENTINE. OF. ALL. THE. THINGS.

But the show as a show by itself is great. The first season maybe not so much, but I've really been loving season 2, so I don't get all the hate lol
i feel like the script and arc is still a bit awkward, but the actors are perfect for the roles and its so annoying cuz the potencial is endless and the writers keep making it so fucking cringeworthy. and then there is jace my less favorite thing about the whole show, they made his caracter a freaking emotional mess in the worst way and i dont know i just cant connect with him or his relationship with the other characters, and i really dont think is dom like he has the potencial to be jace is the script, like seriously dom in interview is more jace than show jace is jace if you know what i mean. the good thing is that i finally came to tearms with the fact the show is nothing like the books and stopped trying to make sense of things im just rolling with whatever the hell is going on now and im actually enjoying most of it like simon and alec they are definetly highlights

DotDotDot exactly is as if the writers are trying to come with something unique and the only thing they are achieving is a mess like it is to much plots and information, on the comic con panels they were even talking about tessa and stuff and i was like no no stop i just think they need to regroup and have a more clear plot line

Like no they would probably make tessa a villian or something idk i wouldn't be suprised if they did that but if they did something like that then i would be sooooo pissed and done with them. It's a shame cuz i really love the actors and believe the portraits they are doing like alec,simon,maia,izzy and omg sebastian are really good but god they just need a better arc. I really think they can save this mess I'm rooting for them to a better script thats what they need im sure the actors can kill this rolls
Ivy Valentine i totally agree with you, they just need to organize the ideas better and get a better grip of the characters( plot wise and script wise) i definitely like parts of the show, but at the same time like Christine was saying too it's almost comical some of the thing they are doing and even cringe, i just hope they get it together cuz it could be great...
I think Magnus's reaction was more about Alec in particular acting that way. He knows Shadowhunters are jerks, but he was expecting more from Alec. Also, I'm disappointed at the lack of Malec in this review. I know the show isn't perfect, but I think the Malec relationship is done really well and wanted to hear your opinion on it.
Personally, I find that the best way to watch this show is to completely separate it from the books. The actors have even said they're not trying to follow the books anymore :( . Also let's be real, plot line wise, they don't even compare, the books are just so brilliant.
Obviously no hate to the show, I thoroughly enjoy it, I just prefer the books, that's all :)

I thought the freaky friday switch was going to be stupid when I heard about it but HOLY SHIT I ended up LOVING that storyline! Just because it gave Malec so much conflict to deal with and room for both of them to grow as individuals and as a couple. I LOVED when Magnus was really struggling and Alec tells him "there's nothing ugly about you" when he reveals his most traumatic memory

Both their actors are busy with roles on other shows. It's television you can't always write the characters when you want with guest stars.

Shadowhunter Surgeon It feels like things that should and could be explored just aren't such as Alec's struggle with his decision with who he shares his bed with. I also feel that they are trying to make powerful leads with extra powers like shape shifting making it so they all are less cunning. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show but it has so much more potential considering they have more hours to go into these things. Instead of identifying with the characters try are just entertainment. It has lost a sense of humanity and the creativity in how they excute plans.

Shadowhunters Tv show: City of messed up plots. City of ashes of the plot. City of screwing up small details that seriously matter. City of making sh*t up to add unnecessary drama. City of being unable to keep plot points straight. City of incompetent shadowhunter guards. City of we can do whatever the check we want. City of no one has read the Codex. City of portals that still look weird. City of awkward-Sebastian-blob-costume. City of we can't screw this up anymore than we already have...Oh wait, yes we can. This show is driving me up a wall. But Will Tudor is great.

Amanda Stevens I love how book fans act as if there is any right way to do this it's a show about vampires werwolves and shadowhunters for god sakes the writers have there own vision and imagination which book fans obviously lack if they are so stubborn and stupid that all there brains can handle is a re telling of the same story
+natalie neale I wanted this show to be good but it's so frustrating when they change something that ruins the chances of performing certain scenes. For example, we've seen that the Fae and vampires can walk around the Institute in the show. Now there's no way for Camille to deliver these lines she spoke in the Sanctuary to Simon in City of Fallen Angels, "You can't even go with them into their home. You are shut out. Yet so eager to serve them. You would stand on their side against your own kind." I really wanted to see a scene like that, just Camille and Simon, in the Sanctuary, but the writers forgot that small detail about vampires and holy ground. I wanted to see Sebastian/Jonathan scaling the Demon towers and I also really wanted a scene similar to that of City of Glass where Clary charges through the portal and Luke takes her to Amatis. So yeah, I am a stubborn, picky, pain in the ass when it comes to detail and plot but I have my reasons.
IT'S BEEN A HUNDRED YEARS... I'm so happy you're back at this again, the show and my motivation to watch it wasn't the same without you

I like how they made Jace less cliched in the show. He has emotions, he’s vulnerable and he is still strong and powerful. Idk, I never liked him in the books, but in the show I feel like he is actually a developed character 🤷♀️
Christine, I feel the reason why Jace's Rune activating abilities are so hyped up is because of his extraordinary abilities in the book. A normal shadowhunter would have to draw on specific runes for the speed and ability that Jace naturally has in the books; so I think the show is portraying that he can display great skills effortlessly through the Rune activation thing

So... I decided to watch shadow hunters and I’m sad Christine doesn’t have more talks about the show.
I had to pause before the "dinner is served" scene too because i just knew spaghetti would make another appearance and i laughed so hard when i saw the dinner table. Literally one of the unintentional, funniest shadowhunter scenes ever and there have been many! 😂

I am a fan of the show, and started reading the books because of the show. I like both, but I do think that you should have paid more attention to what the cast and crew said when they talked about the adaptation, they said that it would be based on the books but would have a lot of differences. Some thing about the books being the “skeleton” while the show is the flesh. Even Em said in one interview that she stopped reading the books cause the differences confused her. The show was created while keeping in mind that not all the viewers would watch because of the books, so obviously they would have to add new elements and remove other things, in order to keep it interesting for both audiences.
I totally get where you’re coming from, being disgusted or hating Sebastian from the moment he first showed up, but as someone who didn’t even know who Sebastian was when he first appeared, him burning his hand and holding it over the fire were really interesting to me cause they were signs that this person isnt who he says he is or this person is probably dangerous. At that point i hadn’t read the books(i still haven’t finished reading all of them) but watching this show is really interesting, and i think, as an advice, you should either watch the show as a work that is separate from the books, or you should stop watching it if it bothers you so much.

Cori G in the books Jace wished for his birthday to bathe in a bathtub full of spaghetti. But in de books there was a scene where Valentine said to jace "remember when I used to make u spaghetti" and it was really stupid cause it had no emotional connction to it like Christine said "he could have also said 'remember when I used to make u a sandwich'" it just stupid that they brought that scene so out of context

Haha, every single time I watched an episode I always wanted to come back here and see your video on it and there never was one. Usually, I will read a book that you recommend and then after I read it I watch your video and it's like talking to someone about all of the feels and questions and insane theories because none of my friends are readers. Not having your Shadowhunter videos was just...."What are these feeeeelings?"
Alright, so the show has improved production vise, but the storyline is still all over the place. Will Tudor is amazing! Also, I don't watch the show as a sure shot adaptation of the books, but rather as fanficfion. Its easier that way. Theres a lot of issues with the books, which the show has avoided, and a great deal of good stuff too, which it has not incorporated as well. I suppose its hard to find the place between. Its good entertainment though. 😊😄😅
That part about Sebastian just wandering around waiting for his plot point is so true. That made me burst out laughing :)

I'm totally fine with them just pulling small parts from the book and using them out of context because I didn't really think the books were that good (they mostly got worse as the series went on).
