Thanks, David. That was cool. It's nice having a draw knife (or even a spokeshave) but, you're right, it's a lot of extra carry. This is a great hack. Q: You made a point of saying you are right-handed and therefore to hammer the knife into the stick at a slight angle. That made sense. Then later on you used it with the knife in your left hand. Sup with that? Just sane... :^) Saint
I'm glad you brought that up. I think everybody's personal preferences will be different. A left handed person may feel more comfortable holding the knife in his right hand or not. A person may like the angle of the blade to be about 22 1/2 degrees like I do, others 45 degrees... and all points in between. Everyone will have to figure out what feels right for them. When I changed the knife handle into the other hand, it felt perfect.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Cool -- that makes sense. I'm right-handed so I figured my right hand for power and left hand for a guide. They say, "You were born with your left hand and your right hand is what you've done with it." Thanks for the response. Just sane... :^) Saint
As much as I love fire making myself, it is such a pleasure to just relax and watch you do what you do best. Again, that catch phrase in the end always makes me smile. Thanks for being here good Sir.
David, WOW. That is a great knife adaption. You could take a piece of hardwood and split or saw down 2 or 4 inches, drill it out and drive a metal rod tap it into place, then file what looks like a dull gut hook to line up with the rod through the handle and you would have a direct line pull. Cary it as an accessory in your kit.
I've learned so much from you about fire making. GOOD job ole boy. Keep up the good work. This is a neat trick and thanks for the reminder to clean the spline of ur knife off. I haven't been on ur channel for a while so I'm catching up!!! Jim up here in Kings Mtn. be SAFE
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl thanks bud, your are a bad influence as I should be outside enjoying this BEAUTIFUL day. (I'm taking a 15 minute break from yard work!!) Watching ur "dip the hands in water" video now. take care.
Just drive the tip of your knife into an 8" piece of branch at a slight angle and start drawing. Then I show you how to make looong fatwood shavings that easily ferro rod ignite into a raging inferno. Please follow the LINKs below and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You! Você é muito gentil amigo!
You could use as a draw knife for wood working projects as well.
That fatwood looked like lighting gas!!
It took off faster than I was expecting.

Has baited ferro rods always been produced in China? Either way I got mine and 2 Mora 🔪 in today. Yeah!
I guess bayite are made over there.
Hello Dave I live in England and my question is; is there a way that you can tell Fat wood from other woods?.
Strong smell of pine and there's no mistaking the concentrated resin in the wood. Please Google also.
Are those Cmillus Les Stroud knives???
Mora Companion
Just curious what brand of knife is that?
