My Dad retired from the Santa Fe railroad in 1992 . He started in 1949. He loved his job . He worked in the Kansas City , Kansas yards as a carman and then in the heavy repair . He also was the crane operator for wrecks. I miss those days.

I would have loved if it became the Santa Fe and SP railroad that was the dream that was taken from all of us

Even if SPSF had become a reality, I can't help but feel like they were inevitably gonna fall victim to greed and negligence like all the other class 1's did. Like the old saying goes: You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villian.

@@charlessmileyvideos likewise, always have and always will loved the Kodachrome set up. Saw it a lot as a kid, and kinda wished to have the forethought of taking many pictures!

I grew up in Pasadena back in the ‘60s before the 210 freeway was ever built. Back in those days, the AT&SF would literally meander through people’s backyards as it went through Pasadena. One of those backyards was MY house. As a child, in 1964 I rode the combined Super Chief/El Capitan from Pasadena to Chicago’s Dearborn Station. I then boarded the New York Central’s Twilight Limited to Detroit. If you don’t think a train ride can impress a kid, take a look at the icon I use here - over 60 years later! 😉

Yeah I do. I live in a small CO town which has BNSF tracks. They ship Wyoming Coal through here along with general freight. Did get to travel on the Super Chief from CO to IL. as young boy. Did live in Newton KS for a number of years. This was Division Headquarters for that area. Had a friend and neighbor who was the track maintenance supervisor for this division area back in the 70’s.

Howzit : Despite my obvious BN [ * Been There; Done That * ] SD 40-2 T-Shirt; yes I certainly DO miss the SF RR .... Thanks Charles for this great extended video; mate ! OK : So my two consecutively favourite RR's eventually did merge; but somehow ( For me ); the sum of the two does not come close to the attraction to the individual constituents .... ESPECIALLY the merged-entity; arb colour-scheme ! The erstwhile SF and BN colours ( Those War-Bonnets ! ) will remain forever in the memory ! Lakka + Cheers For Now / Johnny 🤙😉

It's too bad they changed the name after the merger. The AT&SF was the senior partner and they could have kept the livery and just changed the name to the Santa Fe Railroad.
