What do you think of what Rob Dahm has done with his rotarys and the power he is pushing out. And he's also got the 12 rotor experimental engine. Mikey
I think Rob and BilletPro are going to work together in the near future. At least Rob mentioned something about that in one of his latest videos, and he recently received a big shipment of parts from them. Rob is bringing a lot of attention to rotary engines, and he could bring BilletPro a whole lot of new customers.
I know the one rotor makes little sense I really love the idea of having a single rotor engine. They look sort of silly when the transmission is 2-3x size of the engine
Renesis side exhaust 20B setups will be great. So long as tiny thin side seal springs are not stressed with turbo heat, they will handle other types of boost. Side port exhaust allows more powerful burn of the fuel. Multi stage intake of Renesis allows better air flow at all RPMs.
Indeed would be cool to see that and shit you can just mill out the rotors from a reny to 3mm and they’ll chooch ! What would be cool is 20b reny fully NA for sure ! The intake ports are already gnar the way they are …. Be really cool to see itb stacks on a reny also! Was working on a CAD design for the 6 port but decided the four ports area better go for ITB !
Can a rotary be run vertically? Or do they still use a oil sump? I know they use 2-stroke oil. But I thought they had some sort of a sump for the gears too that uses regular engine oil.
That's not much different than asking what is the most amount of pistons you can have. Everything just gets bigger, heavier, hotter, more complex and less justifiable.
It's so interesting hearing about Mazda themselves through Mike because I think its something they don't do that well - connecting with there fans outside of Japan
Housings are incredibly difficult to manufacture, and Mazda's OEM housings are really good so people have always just used those. Also the factory housings are aluminium while the irons are just that, they're cast iron. Going with billet plates/irons removes a lot of weight and adds strength were needed, but until Mazda stops selling housings, or the prices rise too high, the market for billet housings isn't all that big. There are several companies working on and testing both billet housings and rotors, but we probably won't see those for sale as off-the-shelf part for several years still. With the plates you make the whole ''skeleton'' of it out of billet aluminium, then insert the steel plate. The steel plate is ''just'' a flat piece of steel with a coating so the machining is fairly simple. With housings you need to machines the weird inside shape just right with really good accuracy, then spray on a hard coating while keeping the layer thickness extremely accurate and even.
This is like the 12 rotor engine that was also billet made in America. Rob Dahm now has it and is doing some precision work to make it run perfectly smoothly but the work that has been done to it is nothing short of phenomenal

His is still the first one to be built.
I don't know why the billet sideplate engineers haven't considered making Renesis type sideplates. The Renesis hybrid 13B is a type of engine parts combination that's gaining popularity for equalizing the breathing specs on both the intake and exhaust side. And the housing that are most commonly used due the most bolt-on compatibility, the GSL-SE, can still be bought from Mazda or secondhand in great condition. A billet Renesis hybrid would take abuse if it's turbocharged.
I'd love to see a Renesis based 20b..overall length the same...but matching, wider side plates to offer larger exhaust ports with better spacing between them. With 3 rotor housings it may end up being a little bit longer(not much IF the normal 20 center plate is more like a 13g-or short 3 rotor plate) also a semi pp in that configuration would probably be awesome as well. The plates and housings should be easy...the eccentric shaft though...
