SOME SMALL CORRECTIONS:
- I slightly underdid the mortal wounds for the Nightbringer's C'Tan power - should be a little higher, but he still wins hard either way.
- Magnus could use a cabalistic ritual for +D3MW on one cast to deliver a little more damage and break the deadlock for the 'per point' calculation.
Did you give Cawl the -1 damage from his WLT or just the 4++? Maybe you did but saw no mention of it in the slate
@@shinkiro403 yes I did
Time to buff Trajann. 😉
but how often can he kill roboute? that is the real question and the only measurement i stand by
Magnus is also getting +1 to cast from his army rules so he gets a +3 in total. Not sure it is changing something to the calculation though
I find it kinda hilarious that Lord Solar Leontus, who is for all intents and purposes a baseline human only has one less wound than Guilliman, a literal primarch and son of the emperor.
It’s the horse
@@anexistanthuman2435 Ah yes, because a horse is the equal of the Emperor's Sons. That's why his favorite son is Horse!
I agree. I don’t get why Guilleman has only 9 compared to angron’s 18.
@@patinho5589 Angron's a friggin daemon, guilliman is still a "normal" primarch
@@sugarcombfilms3467 Well it's an amazing horse, okay.
Cawl just getting insulted in the first second is hilarious and sad
He would just call a titan to kill this monkey in some seconds.
@@BloodyArchangelus "a" titan? My man's gotta summon the entire Titan Legions of Mars
I remember When before guard got their supreme commander auspex used Old creed for the same type of joke
Cawl is like, ya no this shouldn't be happening.
Angron, oh it's happening.

Ghazghkull winning against Angron is just such a great meme

Hahahaha. Oh my Man-Emperor, just proves that the Orkz Gods are better than Khorne.
In fairness, he is a very fighty lad
Confirms Angron is gonna get krump'd
Looks like Angron should be a lot more worried about killing Yarrick... if he did.
Wound caps are bullshit
Angry super ork versus a big demon man that can never die and can't be banished from real space anymore... Sounds like a good time!
@@DemoMan465 ahaha. Yea yea can not banished. You don’t understand that gw raised a red flag for Angron. He became too broken in lore to stay alive.
"Oi, Wierd Ummy, Yu'z gonna pay fo steallin ma kill! It beez us Boiz that took Ya'wick down. yu's gonna recieve a beatin till we'ze says yu's con die." And thus his resurrection powers come from the orks not khorne.
@@justinerickson282 all i hear is "boo hoo i cant 1 melee phase everything i touch"
Small detail about magnus, he generates 4 cabal points which is enough to deal additional d3 mortal wounds to angron with a cabalistic ritual
If you also cast the targetable mortals, it does even more (firestorm, and gaze of hate).
That's a good point, would be enough to break the deadlock per point I guess. The other witchfires seemed to do less than the debuffs in terms of percentage gains though!
@@auspextactics I also forgot that if you want to enter the matrix and do ultra cheeky stuff which I suppose is not the point, you can spend one turn running away from angron, use the four points to generate a cp with a psychich action, next turn you can smite + tzeentch firestorm + doom bolt + 1d3 + use a stratagem to cast another power, which I think that with a bit of luck oneshots angron before even charging
@@auspextactics all depends on how hard firestorm spikes (or doesn't, lol)
I've had Magnus Spike hard before in the psychic phase and him kill Belkor just from spells
Leontus doing better than Cawl is hilarious.
He's criminally underrated as a damage dealer. The buffs are what you take him for but he'll hit hard

As a Death Guard player, I still love to see Mortartion being an absolute wall. He doesn't just deal enough damage to take down Angron, he doesn't even take half his Wounds as damage. And all of that without a damage cap per phase!
any fighty character: *exists*
*C'tan Shard of the Nightbringer would like to know your location*
I love these "faction leader vs Every other faction leader" videos. I'm also glad to see my man Mortarion does pretty well against Angron. It's good that a new Daemon Primarch doesn't instantly make the others completely useless.
@@jacob-2271 Yeah I did
@@PelinalDidNothingWrong okay
Thing is, I'd expect that other Daemon Primarchs would have better command and psychic rules but Angron would flatten them in a one-on-one fight; After all, it's the only thing he's actually good at. Kinda dissapointed he does so poorly at his job.
@@CteCrassusfrom a purely combat prospective Angron wins but there are way more phases to the game apart from the combat phase and Angron must have pissed off Khorne in some regard because poor Angron wasn’t given a Brass Collar or perhaps he refused to wear the one given to him, in any case he lacks Khornes archetypal resistant to magic and that’s not a good pairing when fighting either the avatar of magic or the avatar of the decay which dabbles in magic and is all about being tough.
I think the real insult to injury that would have come is if he had to fight Fulgrim for Slaanesh is archetype of speed so in a 40k setting, he wouldn’t just attack first but resolve his entire combat step before Angron could attack back which could be enough to outright kill Angron.
And then GW release fulgrim 4 arms a tail, poison swords a speed freak
Almost everyone: *annoyed at Angron coming back*
Ghazghkull: *screams WAAARGGGHGG!!! in joy due to more krumpin time*
I would have NEVER expected the Swarmlord to win, even if only on the points.
Knowing that Dante > Swarmlord, so now Dante can kill a monkey. Heh.
The Hive Mind repeatedly sending that Hive Fleet into the Warp to fight Chaos is paying off.
I would argue for saint celestine being included as a leader of the sisters of battle. She has respawning abilities like angron and is absolutely a centerpiece of the army.
Your color coding for this video is truly a testament to Chaos, sometimes green is good sometimes its bad; left right, there is no order Chaos reigns.
I love the idea of Canis Rex running up to angron and bitch slapping him to death and even if its a mutual, you see a little ejection from the knight as it falls on slapped corpse of angron
The Imperium really needs Russ, Khan or Johnson back to do some melee
The Lion is coming back in 10th Edition guaranteed.
Guard command squad waving a relic flag around while grinning at the guys with damage caps.
I mean this is really impressive for Angron when you consider he's often meant to respawn or be used as a "go away" button against enemy trade pieces. The volume of attacks of high damage and strength attacks is definitely a red flag for armies like Guard who could potentially get their infantry farmed for bloodtithe and potentially have their major vehicles tied up with angron all game while berserkers and 8bound clean up.
To be fair, for a model meant to come back a lot Angron has a really nice stat line.
The "Demon Slayer" warlord trait got fixed in the new Arks of Omen Angron Book and it now says that any Demon Unit can't make any type of saving throw against that attack
Seems like Angron was partially designed around his reincarnating ability but arguably if he charged early game into Abaddon etc there wouldn't be any points to revive, so it's surprising he gets hit so hard.
I ran over a dozen battles of Angron vs Abbadon, and Abbs wins like almost 9 out of 10 times, with a few outliers, like when I only scored one wound against Angron in Abb's first fight phase (for 2 morts) but he made the save itself. That damage cap is a beast.
Angron himself supplies 2 of the 6 points needed when he 'dies', and the World Eaters player would just get the remaining 4 points needed to revive Angron later on. 4 BTP isn't that much, especially not in larger games.
This was fun to watch, always great to see Ghaz putting in work
While it was expected that Angron will destroy most opponents in melee, I am glad he does have some natural hard counters.
It makes the game more balanced especially at tournaments.
@democratslie8113I like the Votann Einhyr Champion with the ability to ignore caps on damage!
Counter to the counter!
@Democrats Lie Yeah thats what we need. MORE expensive models.
Like GW currently isn't dancing on our wallet's grave as it is.
@democratslie8113that just locks poorer players out of getting the models in the first place meaning it’s even more annoying. What they should actually do is balance it, but they’re too busy counting their sacks of money in the corner.
@@aterriblespartan5051 i think he meant points cost
@@patinho5589 I hate these "ignore this or that special rule" rules. Like ignoring invulv saves is the worst thing gw invented. It is so bad for balancing that gw needed to give demons an other sort of invulv to ignore the rule which ignores the rules.
It would have been interesting to see the same vs the named greater daemons. Especially Angron one on one vs Skarbrand
That would be an exceptionally angry duel.
Skarbrand wrecks him so hard it isn't even funny.
Skarbrand takes it. It is possible for him to win but most of the time Skarbrand will win
Skarbrand probably hates winning though.
@@SSJ9000Broly "Skarbrand has issues internalising his accomplishments!"
Ty for adding the nightbringer. Always sad when he is not there
Canis Rex also packs a Multi Laser, and other knights would have the Melta or Stubbe.
We really need a faction leader vs everyone for Mortarion!
It would be cool to see each of the leaders get their own vid
His name doesnt start with an A tho
He would still kill everything.
Wow Guilliman does better than I thought. Especially if he was in my list where there's a lot for Angron to chew through first.
Think there’s a slight mistake on the nightbringer numbers. Gaze of death alone averages 3 mw’s
Yeah, good point. I guess the nightbringer wins slightly harder than he already does!
@@auspextactics can chaos daemon players use their daemon save against the nightbringer? Got into a discussion about this recently..
@@oscarlundberg6907 no as it says specifically drain life:any rules like daemon saves cannot be used for wounds
@@yeahthattreeisverycheesy That's not what drain life says. Drain life says the defending model can't use rules to ignore the wounds it loses, i.e. feel-no-pains or rules like their own Necrodermis, which aren't the same as not being able to save against the attack. As daemonic invulnerability isn't technically an invulnerable save either, Daemons can use their saves against the Nightbringer.
@@VXNerthakyeah because ignoring invuls is his OTHER ability, it only takes effect if he uses Entropic blow in mele.
Very cool breakdown and I had a lot of fun with some of these matchups.
I love this type of video. I respect the time commitment, and number grind. This made my day.
My wife and I have recently started getting into 40k lore and are thinking of trying the game for the first time and are really liking Death Guard and Tyranids. The more we see on Mortarion the more we like him and his game model seems quite good.
damn your wife is in on the hobby too? so cool dude. I wish my SO is enthusiastic ab 40k, if I ever manage to find one lol.
What the hell wrong with you two?
I hope they keep the Nightbringer as the premiere character killer in the new edition, he really is powerful in the 1vs1 without actually being all that broken overall.
For Draigo, I really feel like they should have just stated "Daemonic saving throws are considered to be a type of Invulnerable saving throw."
I found this fantastic, brilliant video, takes some of the fear of Angron out of facing him.
"Let's move on to smashing some nerds" -cuts to AdMech. Brilliant 😄
Great stuff as usual, i do enjoy these videos and the humour you bring to them. The Imperium (across all its factions) seems to lack a melee fighter who is a real threat to everyone. I wonder if the specs for The Lion (should he be released as rumoured) will change that and make him as threatening to the Chaos/Xenos melee threats and be less heavy on the buffs like his brother Roboute.
Too bad they didn't give him some form of ranged weapon like a flamer or a throwing ax type thing. Only ever being able to do 3 wounds to Abbadon or Ghaz is depressing.
This is very helpful, knowing which characters are a good match immensely helps people strategize. Also it's good to see that GW didn't turn Angron into an OP blender. Thanks again for great content Auspex.
Always love the smack you talk to characters at the beginning of the video, first our beloved Castellan Creed, now Cawl
I can't help but notice that Helbrecht wasn't here and I completely understand. If I was Angron, I wouldn't want to fight him either...
So basically, nothing imperial has a chance unless they gang up on Angron
Sir Hekthur: "I brought down a demon primarch, in glorious melee combat"
Me: "And what did it cost?"
Sir Hekthur: "My knight...lemme tell you, my salary doesnt even pay for buffing out the paintjob, im completely broke!"
once again, we ask the cannon question "who cant kill the avatar of khaine these days"
Abaddon: “Sit! Good boi.”
I find it interesting that of a demigod of war his weapons are just normal no invulnerable canceling no other modifiers like other leaders which feels a bit weird when his sword is a demon turned into a sword the axe being normal since the lore says that it's just a custom made one the sword just sticks out to me lol
Love these vids!
I kinda feel like votaan and tau should be bringing their tooled up combat characters to this, but I get why we go for the names
Jesus Angron is strong for a character you could conceivably keep on the table top all game despite throwing at the enemy.
Before watching the video I'll have to say this, everyone with a phase cap wrecks him. The whole WE codex has nothing in it that can deal with phase capped characters.
Edit: I didn't expect the other daemon primarchs and Belly to do this well.
Be’lakor with his 1cp transhit in melee and T8 from a spell takes 5dmg from angron on average.
@@user-zh8dr1qt1s would be interestimg to see how some of the other greater daemons do. My impression is that most of them (maybe not the LoC) would at least be on even footing with him. Certain combinations of wl traits + exhalted traits are just brutal and stuff like Shalaxi is built to kill other characters
"Belly"? You guys have gone too far this time!
It is good to see that GW did fall into their normal "new models most be the best" approach. However, I'd like to see Angron having an anti-psychic saves - as Khorne detests magic. The models that limit losts per round just show how silly the rules have become in this edition.
Angron getting stomped by every other chaos leader seems strangely appropriate, poor guy 😅
I love these kind of videos
We need more of these Arena / Faceoff videos!!
Oh ive been waiting for this video.
looks like Gulliman really REALLY needs one of his brothers to come back
Shouldnt the Nightbringer do more mortals? Gaze is 3 4+ for D3 MW each, so 3 on average, plus on average 2.33 from Antimatter Meteor for a total of 5.33 MW
Scene from Leon " everyone !!!! "
Man i know guilliman is not supposed to be a super fighty character I just wish he got more bonuses and aura's to make up for it. Especially in comparison to someone like Abandon.
not that it would change much, but don't forget that uthar's sword does 3 MW on a 6 to hit if the target has any judgement tokens on them
For some of the absolute stomps (like vs Caul where there is >200% damage done and
Magnus actually beats Angron by a hair because he can reroll his casts to fish for a 3D3 mortal super smite which might add an extra mortal wound or two.
Can you try to see what 360 point combo from each faction got the highest chance to killing the primarchs?
On a similar note, in preparation of the marine factions getting attention going into 10th, can you do a chapter master fight between Dante and Azrael?
I'm pleasantly surprised that Angry Boi got boinked by his brothers.
As proven by wintersSEO, the best way to take down angron is a unit of poxwalkers!
That was a hell of a roll.
Super funny seeing the blood God's champion killed immediately on his first outing without doing much of anything.
I saw that too, absolutely hilarious and iconic 😂
@@FimbongBass I loved it! plus all the banter across the rest of the match, at some point I doubt myself if some stuff is not staged for entertainment purposes, but then I remember its winters and 40k
The Avenging Son has a bad habit of getting his butt kicked by his brothers....
Brilliant video - quite different to most 40k content
Hi I maybe new here; but why are there multiple *wound values* for each unit. Is it dependent on customization, or just something only on the app?
Oooh man, now I want to see if anyone can beat the Nightbringer per model or per point!
Also, how would a tricked-out Baneblade Tank Commander (representing Yarrick's Fortress of Arrogance) fare against Angry Boy?
I gotta put in a request for my boy Silent King vs everyone! I wanna see how Szarekh stacks up!
Im missing Templars in this kind of video. It will be thematic :D
I'm glad my boy Magnus actually has a shot in one of these. Can't wait if Russ ever comes back.
Twist of Fate goes a long way.
29:38 THAT’S FOR YARRICK YA PUNY RED WUSS
Maybe loyalists leaders are a bit behind, just saying... Also wound cap is a MAJOR thing in such confrontations.
Jesus H. Chris, even Angron's wings got muscles.
I love these videos
Forgot about the real big baller, the GSC Patriarch
Real question for auspex tactics: Would you like, if your opponent brought angron, and he did die to someone like guilliman or asurman in melee, would you let him be resurrected? Is that the way that would work? Or would you house rule that if a weapon specifically stated to kill daemons, a la the emperors sword and asurmans blade it can't come back?
Angron vs 20 pox walkers.
I would like to see one of these comparisons using a different model than Trajan for the Custodes - e.g. something like a Telemon with caestus, even though it isn't a character - just to see a slightly more beefy contestant than the 8W Man With Axe.
for Be'lakor, he should ideally use "Stream of Corruption" for 1 CP to get another smite equivilent cast into angron, wont make a huge difference, but makes the OTK more assured :)
I guess when Mortarion said to Nurgle he wants to endure, grandfather provided
and the meme Ghazkull coming for revenge on Yarrick would play out like we wanted!
Though no loyalist can stand against the dark leaders. Lion would rectify that I imagine
im curious as to how skarbrand and the other greater demons would do against angron
Love to see the great unclean one against angron.
Funny if Farsight actually beats Angron in the Arks of Omen books. He does kill a Bloodthirster in his own book
This may be silly, but in the future it would be great to see the phoenix lords go against these big things. Their damage cap may actually mean they could survive. And some of them can do nasty damage in melee
Yeah, Angron is pretty scary, but I reckon a bunch of Poxwalkers could do him in pretty quickly. 😁
Can come explain the point of wound caps to me? They dont seem balanced at all. Im also a new player so I could be missing something
Funny how just a bunch of maths can be so entertaining for 40 mins!
I think you forgot Drazhar gives himself +1 to wound so it would actually be about 8.7 wounds each activation with the damage 3 option
Think we be needing a lion next lol :D
I can't wait until you have to add The Lion to these lists!
For Kaldor Draigo, wouldn't it be better to cast Empyric Amplification and 1 damaging spell instead? It's a 33% increase to his melee damage which is likely to have a higher average than Smite or Vortex, while being far more consistent if he could ignore invulns (would be 21-22 wounds though my math might be wrong)
You're gonna have to redo this when 10th comes out lmao
C'Tan are so good. But man I love the idea of Angron just smashing so many of these dudes into the dirt.
Really here just to see a good Krumpin for Ol Bale eye
How exactly are the point values weighed into the calculation?
Did you calculate the attendance claws and teeth for Mortations attacks LOL I have yet to get an ROI with that attack but I'm still hoping!
Question for auspex: Does old one eye far well against angron?
When Uthar the Destined places a Judgment token on an enemy model his sword does 3 mortal wounds on a hit roll of 6, this would include the auto 6 that the can have.
