Tim, You nailed that landing as easy as putting an Escalade in a single car garage. IMO the easier somebody makes there work look - the more skilled they are! Kudos to you and your crew for another great video. 🌊🌊🌊💪💪🎯🎯🎯
Thank you very much for that. I appreciate it very much! CUOTO
I really like that you walk through your thoughts and actions. It makes it so even I can understand the many elements involved with just pulling flat onto a dock. You know your boat, the equipment limitations, the tide, the wind...its a lot and its great to see a good team. As always, thanks for doing this.
Thank you very much for watching and for your kind words. CUOTO
Pay no attention to people 🤷♂️🤷♀️sitting on their couches 🛋️thinking 💭they know everything, lol they are just upset they haven’t found a way to maneuver their couch to go places without having to get up off of it…. 😵💫You just keep doing what you do best 🚢⚓️⛴️🌊🙂& Stay Safe
…2c maybe more than they’re worth….😂😂👍
Subtle, real subtle. 😳😂❤
And totally correct!
Perfect 👍
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
I miss the hum of boat life. Thanks, Capt
Yeah, they're like the customer who just read an article and suddenly has 30 years of experience. Gotta love the couch scientist, researcher, bio-chemist, lawyer, farmer, sailor, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Fair winds
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Thank you Tim. I am always relaxed when I watch you in a difficult situation because I KNOW you are going to carry it off. If you are interested, I have a huge amount of advice for you gained from the time I once paddled a canoe on a pond - just let me know if you want to learn from my vast experience 😬😎🤣😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching John, you old salty sea bastard. 😂 10 points! CUOTO
Hi Tim, I’m enjoying you videos very much. For some reason I seem to have a fascination for tug boats and how they handle the many and varied manoeuvres. I love your careful management and descriptions during these difficult operations, you make it look so easy. Of course there will be ‘clever’ people telling you what to do and there are plenty submerged and damaged boats to prove it. Best wishes from UK and thank you for your awesome skill. Kenneth
Thank you very much for watching Kenneth. I appreciate your kind words. CUOTO
A bit of a tricky one this week, but our ever skilled Capt Tim has it all under control. CUOTO
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
When you go to sea, and tell about it, suddenly there are experts everywhere. My son is a merchant mariner, and does the same routine you do. He says he has talked to you occasionally, and operates the Paulsboro to Del City run. So, I have watched him di that run for a couple years, and is on his way there, now, I believe. I watch and listen and learn. Great posts, Tim. Keep on keeping on. I did my share, in the Navy, and we have our own sail boat.
Thank you very much for watching Grant. Tell your son I said Hi. CUOTO
Just now11:17 I wish for a screen shot to hang on my wall because the lines and colors are such beautiful art. Not to mention how lovely to listen and watch your skillful maneuvering as you work with the reality of Ma Nature!!
Thank you very much for watching. I appreciate that. CUOTO
👍✅ Tim that was so bad what you should have done was ......... then the screwed up the .............. and after that part where you twisted was terrible. Now if I had been driving would have been docked in under one minute and would not even needed the line handlers on the dock !🤣👏
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Hey! Didn't you have some ideas about the bridge too? 😂 Thank you for watching. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea 👍✅ Oh hell yea I do, and that cluster f*%# was probably your fault too!!! 🤣
I'd love having a bow thruster in situations like that.. Great job Tim & crew!!
Thank you for watching Jon. It would have to be a big bow thruster, (3000hp). CUOTO
Another great video!
Thank you very much Kenny! CUOTO
Fortunately everyone is entitled to ignore other people's opinions too. Keep up the great work team!
💯!!! Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
No problem when ya need more gear to deliver fabulous video to all of us, Amazon delivers EVERYwhere....lol, right to the boat or

Thank you for watching and remember the new gear comes with new Patrons. 😂 😂 CUOTO
Know what you mean by "the armchair admirals". Even before the Dali stopped moving, someone was already calling for jail time and lifetime license suspension for the master.
Personally, I took a three day peek to watch the original salvage effort. One view of the explosion effort and one view for the initial tow.
What more to see?
Chief Mokoi's two videos were enough for me.
Extreme patience Tim. Had a similar experience without a barge..Had a MX pilot aboard. Couldn't get close to the dock to let off. Tide and prop wash against dock bulwark kept pushing me off.
Thank you very much for watching all these years. CUOTO
Always a Pleasure!
I Respect your perfection!
Thank you very much for watching Rory. CUOTO
Monday morning quarterbacks are everywhere😮 I’ve watched them trying to back down into a slip!

I think I learn something on every vid. I know there are thousands of hours of hands on that will never happen for me. Thanks Paul
Thank you for watching Paul. Thank you for sharing with us that you learn from these videos. That is the prime reason I make them. Thank you. CUOTO
Always great and instructive videos.

I always enjoy seeing the salt pile on the Terrace , fond memories of a friends family business.
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
I notice you mentioning tidal level, you speak of the tidal flow but rarely the height....
Here in the West of the UK, the Port of Bristol today has a 38' tidal range....
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Evan. If we had 38 foot tides, you'd hear me wining about them in every video. 😂 Around the NYC area it's only about 5 or 6 feet. CUOTO
How many of us could use a "prediction line" in our lives. This video will preach.
💯!! Thank you again! CUOTO
great job tim. newjersy dock tony soprano is very happy with your tug skills

Nicely done Tim, slow and steady wins the day.....Now in MY opinion.......just kidding haha! Take care Tim! 😎
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Tim good job with a hard landing. Cuetos
Thank you for watching, but we don't like saying "hard landing" 😂. (I think you might have meant to imply it was a difficult landing). 😂 CUOTO
I know that wasn't necessarily easy... but wow, did you make that look easy! Well done.
Thank you very much for watching all these years. CUOTO
I’m glad you like them Tim be safe COUTO

Well - in my opinion - you're the captain!
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Love these videos Cap. Just so completely different from what I do day to day
Thank you very much for watching Steve. CUOTO
Liked the video. I also liked the way you used the term "The Influence I Have" for maneuvering. The perfectly term for captainly responsibilities. I must be really paying attention to your videos. I could observe everything just before you pointed them out.
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Audio 👍
Thank you for watching (and listening) John. CUOTO

Thank you for watching Lester. CUOTO
Again a good "How To" video.
I really enjoy your explanations, how you are planning ahead, why you do this and that.
It's also interesting to see how slow you can walk on the dock :) :)
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
good friend pilot boat driver once told me to make sure if you have a collision, make sure you are stopped at the time so it's not your fault.

Got it.

Thank you for watching Eddie. Hoping to get back there one day. CUOTO
Tim B, what you need to do is come in at 7 kts. and then immediately twist it three times. I’ve watched enough RUclips to give you the best advice.
😂😂😂 CUOTO
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching Brother! I hope and pray everything is going well for you on your trip North. CUOTO
7? Come on now …that’s a bit slow. Everyone knows you have to be doing 9.2Kts. Then do 4.65 twists you’ll be fine 🤣🤣😂. Live confidently and peacefully

Hey Tim how is everything going hope everyone is well I’m playing catchup again with the videos been busy but I’ll always find time to watch my favorite Utube Channel Yes There are a lot of COUCH CAPTAINS out there Tim don’t pay no mind to them Like you said if it was easy everyone would be a Captain it takes many years to get to that position talk soon COUTO
Thank you very much for watching Eddie. And a big thank you for your SVP gifts! They are both on and being used and appreciated onboard SV Paquita! CUOTO
Back in NYC, by boat, is the best way to travel there. Thanks for taking us a long.
Did a "Ride Along" with my son's NYPD Harbor Unit on a training day, and got 5 minutes at the helm in the Verrazano Narrows, so yeah, I'm a notfernuthin expert also. 😂
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Thanks Tim for the video nice to see you in the New York harbor
Thank you very much for watching George! CUOTO
THANK YOU, I love your videos. I may have missed it, but I would appreciate it if you would talk about the amount of horsepower and how you split the the throttles and use the rudder together to walk or slip your vessel
I find them informative well put together and interesting. I have never been a tugboat Captain I have piloted boats on coastal, intercoastal waterways in South Carolina and Georgia we have aggressive tides.
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Eric. Our regular boat is rated at 4200hp but this one was a loaner why our regular tug was in the shipyard and it had 3000hp. CUOTO
Thanks!
Woohoo! Thank you very much! Cheers 🍻 CUOTO
While transiting the Kill, ever see any deer swimming from Jersey to Staten Island? I know it was a problem several years ago. In Florida people are surprised to hear about first, the breed of miniature deer (big dog sized) that live in the Keys and second, that they swim from key to key to their freshwater springs.
Thank you for watching Jerry. Although I heard about that, I never saw deer swimming in the kills. But I have seen them in other unlikely places like Gowanus bay, Stapleton Anchorage, Long Island sound and more. CUOTO
Very cool!

Thank you for watching David. CUOTO
I'm listening through good headphones and it sounds like you're stuck on the bridge of a tug boat pushing a fuel barge. That's strange.
Thank you for watching (and listening). CUOTO
@@TimBatSea That's the greatest part. I headed to bed while listening to your video and the step by step commentary was the best! Talk about visualizing what I can hear.
I have noticed that texting never quit comes out they way I ment it. A suggestion or even a question sometimes comes out like I'm telling you what to do.
However, since I've been watching you for 4/5 yrs. , I'd be a lousy student if I haven't picked up everything you know. 😄
Thank you very much for watching all these years Bob! CUOTO

Hi. Boy Philadelphia, New York......both far from the Caribbean, cooler too.
😂😂😂 True 😂 Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Hi Cap'n Tim! I enjoy your channel (just found it & subscribed!) and really appreciate your narrating your handling procedures during your manuevers & docking and pointing the camera at what you are talking / maneuvering about / around. What size lines do you use for mooring and also for lashing the barge to the tug? Thanks!
Thank you for watching and subscribing and welcome to the channel Steven. We use 6 and 8 inch lines. (Lines that size are measured in circumference). CUOTO
Fascinating Tim. Watching and learning from your expertise. Awesome vlog as always. Do you choose or is the 'ship' and destination assigned to you?
Many thanks for sharing. Blessings Sherry. 🥰🙏💞⚓
Thank you for watching Sherry. I am assigned command of the tug. Then orders come down for the tug to do. CUOTO
Comments…you are correct 😂😂
Thank you for watching Johny. CUOTO
Great video. I'm a little confused. (Situation normal) You're pulling up a full barge to a tank farm, I presume, to unload. I would have thought the tank farm is where you would bring an empty barge for a fill-up.
Thanks for the great video.
Thank you for watching Ralph. Tank farms need products too. 😂. We were bringing ethanol from Philadelphia to Baltimore, but the bridge was hit by the MV Dali. So we were rerouted to NYC. CUOTO
Another great skill demo working in inches with such a big vessel is great.
May I ask a totally unrelated question please. I have tried googling and not got an answer. Are foghorns still used and is it a particular sound on the main horn or a different thing entirely. Never heard it on any video.😊
Thank you for watching. So that is one of those grey areas and it is difficult for me to respond publicly. But lets just accept that there are rules and there are the way things are. Here in NYC, we have VTS that should do most of the work a horn might. But it is not common here for you to hear a ship blowing a horn to get underway or three short to back out of a slip. My guess is that it's not as important today as it was when ships only had one HF radio with Morse code. Now, because of VTS, AIS and VHF, we all should have a good grasp on what the other guy is doing. CUOTO
Hello Captain, first of all i love your videos, always clear and helpful. I have a question, i have been watching your channel for the last 5 or 6 weeks and have been curious as to the procedure for changing from towing with a long wire whilst out at sea to pushing when preparing to dock the barge. Do you have any specific video's that show this procedure? I have earmarked a few older ones to watch but you might be able to speed up the process a bit. I have a limited amount of maritime experience having been captain of a dive boat in the Med (Malta) for 10 years or so. Small 27 foot twin engines, fibreglass hull. Now retired but still very much interested in all things maritime, big or small anywhere in the world.
Thank you very much for watching Stephen. I filmed the process of breaking tow and making up in push gear in Puerto Rico a few times, but here is a link of us doing it in buzzard's bay.

Yes, don't worry about the adverse comments, just keep on doing it the way you are Tim.
I have a question though, do you have a rudder behind each propeller? I presume its not one rudder in the centre?
Thank you for watching Ken. Yes. One rudder behind each propeller. CUOTO

Tim it’s called dinner and a show so when you guys are haveing dinner in the galley listen to all those comments and laugh your ass off
😂😂😂😂Right? Thank you for watching Ed. CUOTO
Loving the video but I cannot work out your vessel is it a tug pushing something or a single ship?
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Peter. We are a Tugboat that is pushing an oil barge. CUOTO

😂😂😂😂 💯 Thank you very much for Eddie. CUOTO
What would happen if you totally miss and can't line the barge up properly? Have you "missed"?
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. There have been many times when a second or even third try is in order. I have even gone to the wrong dock before. 😂 CUOTO
'2 cents is more valuable than my opinion' - what are you saying Tim, my body is only worth $0.73? And all these opinions I have been blabbering, I was hoping I was worth more than a buck!!
😂😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. Your questions are always welcome. People offering unsolicited opinions are not always appropriated. 😂 CUOTO
How can I tell which boat is yours at a glance? You're occasionally on the waters I usually boat and I'd like to throw you a wave. Maybe I'll take a video and I'll send it to you..
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Ken. We try not to "directly" name tugs, companies or customers as it gets me in trouble with my employer. But I am sure you will figure it out. CUOTO
When do you get the 4200 back?
Thank you for watching Mark. We got it out of the yard awhile back, but I have a bunch of videos stacked up to get through first. CUOTO
I don't know shit lol
But I do know when you do a great job, my friend lol
Thank you for watching Butch! CUOTO
Hey there Captain. I'm a young disabled vet who's very interested in going to a maritime academy for 4yrs, with the aim to captain tugs in the future.
One big potential issue I've run into is colorblindness. It isn't debilitating in my everyday life, but I fail any test put in front of me. The lantern test is hit-or-miss; sometimes I can pass that one. I've read that if you fail to meet the color vision requirements, a "Daytime Only" restriction will be placed on your license.
So for my question - do you have any idea how much that would affect my employability, and could it bar me from operating larger vessels professionally which are obviously out at sea for days / weeks at a time?
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. Thank you for your service as well. Unfortunately, the USCG is extremely rough on color blindness. I think more so than any other thing. So in my opinion, the deck may not be for you. But the engine room does not have the same restriction. In fact, my engineer is color blind. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea Thank you for the swift reply.
Unfortunately that seems to be the writing on the wall the more I look into this. But am I correct in understanding that you should still be able to attain a license while colorblind, albeit with a Daytime-Only restriction? And if so, are you familiar with how that might affect employability?
Apologies for pestering you, but these answers are much more difficult to find than I'd anticipated. Just need a bit of assistance to get off the ground here.
@@LandscapeAhoy129 I really am not an authority on the subject. But I don't believe there is a way around it. And as far as employment goes, we all operate 24 hours a day. So not likely. Sorry brother. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea Thanks for your time Capt. Looks like I might be back to the drawing board, but genetics get us all in one way or another I suppose.
Hi Tim Oh forget all those pathetic couch experts I think your getting the hang of it 🙂
😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching Michael. CUOTO
Thanks so much for all the great videos Tim! I just sailed in to NY harbor from Bermuda and I'll be on the lookout for you out here. I've had the good fortune to sail my small boat through some of the same areas you work in (first in PR and now NY) and it's been incredibly helpful to see your perspective both as a tug captain and a sailor as I navigate these same waters. Great job and thanks again!
Outstanding! Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. Have you seen my other channel, SV Paquita? I just spent 3 weeks working on her on the hard. CUOTO
Indeed I have, and great job on SV Paquita as well! Funny thing, right after I watched this video I glanced at my AIS and sure enough a tug (which shall remain nameless) was making way around KVK. Small world 🌍 look out for SV Rua Hatu if you are in NY harbor this week. I monitor 12/16 at anchor and 14/16 underway. But I'll probably move up to Port Washington on Sunday or Monday. CUOTO
@@taggartist Thank you very much! I appreciate that! We are on our regular tug now coming North from Florida. By the way, you might want to monitor 13 as 12 and 14 in VTS NYC are really for VTS movements. All of us are on 13. CUOTO
Really basic question here, but if I google what is a fair tide, I just get an answer that it is not an extreme tide, not a neap or spring tide. But you seem to be using the term differently. What is a fair tide in the context you were using it?
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. That is a great question! A fair tide in our vernacular is a tide going the same direction as we are. Like a fair wind. CUOTO
