I'm very late in getting to this video - just got back from a trip. I wanted to mention - I'm not far from the Washburn & Doughty yard in East Boothbay, where the tractor tugs are made. I attended the launch of the new tractor tug Dennis Moran last week. If you are interested, I can send you some pictures I took of the launching - as I had a great spot, about 20' to the side of the ways. Just let me know, if you want.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing your content from the Caribbean. I've truly enjoyed watching the content up 'till now and I'm sure it's only going to get better!
Thank you for watching and for the offer. I am sure you must have had a great view, but you keep them and show them to me over a beer one day. CUOTO
The ever faith, sister ship is still around in Chesapeake bay, been there for 3 weeks now
Thank you for watching Randy. Yes. I have a friend that was working on trying to get it free. CUOTO
Good luck Tim!!! I will miss the NYC skyline and harbor (yes, I'm partial to my hometown)!! Be safe in your new endeavors!!
Edward. I am sure you will like the Caribbean content too. Come by next Tuesday and tell me what you think. Thank you for watching. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea Will do!!
I live in the United States here Minnesota I’ve always said and heard knock on wood
Me too! Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
I figured your last trip in NY would be a barrage of Grief from the guys onboard!
A Prank Free last trip is SHOCKING!
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Congratulations on your move south!
Thank you Adam. CUOTO
'Touch wood' in the UK. Cuoto
Thank you Matt. CUOTO
Thank you so much for sharing these incredibly insightful videos. Living in Bayonne my whole life and seeing all the boat traffic and tugs with no knowledge, until I found your channel. Wishing you all the very best….be safe!
Thank you very much! I appreciate that. CUOTO
🤙 thank you for sharing all of the tug operations. Very interesting. I worked at Paulsboro NJ refinery and am familiar with the operation
Thank you for watching George. You will be sure to like seeing the Caribbean ops then. Stand by. CUOTO
Always a pleasure coming along on the Elk River! All the very best!!
Thank you for watching.. please remember that we try to not name tugs companies or customers on here as it gets me in trouble with my employer. CUOTO
Great finale Tim! I really enjoyed seeing all the other ship traffic you encountered. Followed along in Google Earth (as usual) and was surprised to see the Henry Repeating Arms factory pop up on the north shore of the Kills, I had no idea they were on the waterfront. (I have one of their guns) Looking forward to your Caribbean tug adventures!
😂😂😂😂 All those years in the kills, and I don't think i ever noticed that. 😂 20 points Paul. CUOTO
I'm a newbie but I enjoyed the videos I have seen lots of luck on your new adventure
Thank you and welcome Ally. I am sure you will like the Caribbean content as well. CUOTO
They need a couple of those cranes on the dock down to help unload the ever forward 😉
Thank you for watching Tom. CUOTO
In Sweden we say pepper pepper take on wood
😂 I haven't heard that before. Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Is the barge hooked to the tug boot and you move it around?
Thank you for watching Nina. Yes. You are correct. CUOTO
So it goes ........ CUOTO.
Thank you for watching Jack. Next week you'll get the new Caribbean videos. CUOTO
New zealand says it both ways. Touch wood and knock on wood
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel Richard. CUOTO
where is the link to other channel
Thank you for watching. I believe it in the video description. But I'll try to give you a link here too (or just search "SV Paquita")

In the first couple minutes of the video you had the shot towards the stern when you put her in gear and those CAT engines let out a little bit of smoke, that was a really good shot with the background. I also really enjoy your explanations of pushing the barge through the wheel wash of another tug. Excellent narration and explanations Tim
Thank you Adam! I appreciate that! CUOTO
Hi Tim, In the UK we say Touch wood and if none's available we touch our head.
Evergreen Holdings also own Eva Air and are partners in Taiwan High Speed Rail,
I worked on the construction of the THSR rail line. All my flights were with Eva Air, I lived in a gated high rise complex and a number of cabin crew lived there also. Soon we were recognizing one another, now my tickets were economy already upgraded to premium, airmiles would upgrade them higher or being recognized would also get an upgrade. I would drive to the airport and leave my car at an off airport parking lot and get bused in, on my return I'd chat with crew and give them a lift home. Party/dinner invite would then follow and lets say it was a great 4 years.
Fubon bank was also a partner and we got free banking and airport lounge cards with them, so travel was sorted.
Good luck with you move Tim, stay safe.
Wow!! I have said it before, but I want to be you when I grow up! 😂 I always look forward to your comments. CUOTO
Enjoy both your channels. I am an 81yo female, former sailboat racer & cruiser who happens to love tugboats! So happy TimBatSea will continue. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you. 💖
Thank you very much for watching both channels Jackie B. (Did you know my 22 year old beautiful daughter is a Jackie B too?) CUOTO
Have you seen those big offshore tugs they use in Norway
Thank you again for watching. Yes. They really are something! CUOTO
I heard all the Evergreen ships had recently been into dry dock to fit wheels to their keels :)
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching. It would be bad karma for me to comment. 😂 CUOTO
Jokingly my maritme buds and I have started calling Evergreen as "everstuck" after the Everforward made a mess out of the Chesapeake. Fully aware that these events are such a small percentage of their shipping fleet. Kind of like poking fun at Swift trucking for all their accidents.
Right? LOL Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Always good to see Swift trailers on a train, keeps them out of trouble!
‘Knock on wood’ in Canada. New subscriber, learning lots and loving these videos!
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. Glad to have you onboard. CUOTO
Speaking of tractor tugs etc, the INDEPENDENCE, which is often docked at Mass Maritime on Cape Cod Canal was built for assisting ships docking at the LNG terminal out in Massachusetts Bay. It has a Voith-Schneider drive. Very maneuverable, but also deep draft with no real keel to protect it.
INDEPENDENCE is often the escort boat for barges and tankers transiting the Canal, as you probably know. One night it got a little far out of the channel near Cleveland Ledge and ran that drive aground. It was out of service for months. I think it was repaired in Fairhaven, but not sure.
Looking forward to seeing your new ports down south. CUOTO!
Thank you for watching Bill. Please keep in mind that we try not to specify name tugs, companies or customers on here as it gets me in trouble with my employer. CUOTO
Another GREAT video. And thanks for the detailed description of the dynamics you were doing. Very interesting to see all the cause and effects.
Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Goodbye from a Dutchie in NYC, I’ll miss checking the East River for you. In Dutch it’s “afkloppen”, closer to knock on wood!
Don't go away Ron. The channel continues and you may like to see the Caribbean content. Lots of offshore towing! CUOTO
Hey Tim! Long time viewer first time commenter... I work on the rivers and have heard towboaters use the phase "top out" and have always wondered about the origins of the term. I've always heard it used talking about flipping the boat and tow unit around. Is that how you use it, you said it in this video? Any guesses about where it comes from, or might be shortened from? Can we ask the channel's collective mind if you don't know? Finally, thanks for your great channel!
Thank you for watching. I am not familiar with "top Out" but I am not a river guy. My guess is that you are correct. We use "Top around" as in doing a turn or 180. No ideas where it comes from. CUOTO
Touch wood usually tapping the piece I carry everywhere between my ears.
ATB Tim CUOTO
Thank you Bill. CUOTO
Tim, I always knew it as Knock on wood, to make it humorous I usually make a fist and knock on my own head LOL !!!. Smooth sailing My Friend.
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Nock on wood .. in dutch is “ afkloppen” or “afkloppen op hout” yes we nock or tap.
It has to be done on unvarnished wood. Preferably apple, nut or oak wood.
This is developed form the time people believed in all kinds of spiritual things. Christianity was not seen or heard from yet.
The nock on wood was to make sure you didn’t upset the Forrest spirits.
😂😂😂 I love that! Thank you for watching. CUOTO
In Norway we say BANK I BORDET ( knock on the table )
Awesome! Thank you for watching and for giving me something to say to Rune, my Norwegian friend. CUOTO
Touch wood over here in Australia 👌.. Love your content.. Makes me want to look into finding a job that gets me on a tug ♥️
Thank you for watching John. Best of luck to you. CUOTO
Capt. Please tell me you recorded the job with the 40 knot wind gusts into the 50's, wrong dock, move to right dock and back to the real right dock after leaving the barge at the right wrong dock and having to go back to get it from the 2nd right wrong dock to the original right dock. I think I got that all right as you describe it in the beginning..lol would of made an epic last vid out of NYC. If not your forgiven seeing how you posted up this Great clip. CUOTO
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching James. No. That's the last of what I had laying around for NYC footage. Stand by for Caribbean content. CUOTO
Was it me or was that a close meeting with the COSCO Fortune container ship? Seemed like he crossed your bow. But then there is the Law of Tonnage as you mentioned a while back. Looking forward to your next gig.
Thank you for watching. No, that was normal and we had worded it out over the radio. He knew my intentions and I knew his. So it was all good. CUOTO
Hi Tim in Australia and NZ its touch wood but you will hear Knock on wood sometimes
Thank you for weighing in Curly. I appreciate that. CUOTO
In the Netherlands that would be 'even afkloppen' , literally 'knock it away for a moment' , touch on wood comes closest to that 👍
Festinating! Thank you for watching Roeland. CUOTO
I say touch wood and I touch wood. If there's no wood available I knock on my head. By which I mean I hope that happens.
😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching Marcus. CUOTO
the company I trunk oil for here in Alberta Canada is called Elk River
Thankyou for watching Billy. Please help by not directly naming Tugs, companies or customers on here as it gets me in trouble with my employer. CUOTO
Touch wood, scratch a stay, turn three times… say out loud, “May the Lord and saints preserve us!!!”
Wow. I've never heard half of those. Thank you for watching. CUOTO
New York is so beautiful from the water. Thanks Tim. CUOTO
Thank you for watching Jerome. CUOTO
Will look forward to your next video in your next life...CUOTO
LOL! Thank you for watching James. CUOTO
Do the individual barges in the same class of barges have their own handling characteristics?
Thank you for watching. If you are new to the channel, Welcome. Please consider subscribing. I try to post new content every Tuesday. CUOTO
☑️👍 Finally after days of delay I have an excuse to piss off all morning instead of work! Tks Tim
LOL!!! Thank you very much for waiting! CUOTO
The Swedish translation of knock on wood would be some were along the line with “grab wood”, but said in a manner that it is more “touch wood”
Very cool! Thank you for watching Petter. CUOTO
Knock on wood or my head if no wood available. Great finale! Looking forward to the new adventures
Thank you very much for watching Eric. CUOTO
Thanks Tim for letting us ride along. It was my childhood dream to work on a tug as my dad was a manager for Texaco at the time but someone up the line with more political push beat him to getting me on board. I will be 75 this year and I still love the way you allow us to be on board. Looking forward to seeing you and your new adventures. God Speed and tight lines.
Thank you very much Paul. Looking forward to getting your feedback on the Caribbean content. CUOTO
Another great one, Tim! In the Netherlands we also say "knock on wood".
The sights of NYC and NJ from the water never seem to get old for me. I'll be missing those views for sure.
However, i do look forward to the new views you'll bring us in the future!
Keep her steady, Cap!
Thank you very much Ed!!! I am sure you will like the Caribbean content. CUOTO
That was a beautiful turn off the dock cap 👍
Thank you very much Robin. CUOTO
I will have to say that at the start of my watching, 80% of it was because you were in the ‘City’, over the years, I have learned much and seen so many places I have been. My viewing reasons have included the host. (Haha!) Being in Thailand now, watching brings me ‘Back Home to Brooklyn Heights’. Now we are going to the Caribbean. Hopefully. The ‘Learning process’ will continue. I enjoy sailing… but I like to learn too. Cheers!
Thank you for watching Frank. Oh yes. And now we can do some real offshore towing! CUOTO
Hi Tim I'm here in Australia and say "knock on wood" 🙃
Fascinating. Thank you for watching Lynne. CUOTO
Swedish would be "Touch in wood". Not that I know how you would touch inside the wood 😁
LOL! Thank you very much Carl. CUOTO
I’ll miss the harbor action, looking forward to Caribbean adventures. Thanks Tim.
Thank you for watching William. I too think you like the Caribbean content. CUOTO
For some reason I only just got this notification... not your fault.
I am really looking forward to seeing your new work area and new tug. Safe travels, and see you on the screen.
Thank you very much Shaun. Tuesday you will see the first video of us getting on the wire in Guayanilla Puerto Rico. Stay tuned. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea will do skipper!!
Have always knocked but never seems to work so I'll try touching next time and see if that works any better. Never heard touch wood before.
😂 It was relatively new to me as well. Thank you for watching. CUOTO
in holland we say ''afkloppen '' so i guess its knock on wood
Very cool! Thank you for watching Rick. CUOTO
Touch wood you missed the ship good luck down south and its touch wood in canada G
Really? How did I not every hear that growing up in Maine? LOL Thank you for watching Garth. CUOTO
Touch wood in NZ Tim, great vlog as usual 👍
Thank you very much for watching. If you are new to the channel, Welcome. Please consider subscribing. I try to post new content every Tuesday. CUOTO
Its "knock on wood" in southshore Nova Scotia 🍻
Thank you for watching and checking in Adam. CUOTO
Love this Capt. I assume you slowed up when the COSCO cs was rounding that point. You were able to thread the needle nicely!
Thank you for watching Steve. I may have. LOL. CUOTO
Hello Tim, in holland we als say "Kncok on wood";-)
Thank you Thomas. CUOTO
Aussie/Kiwi chiming in. Both touch and knock is known to me
Thank you Denford. CUOTO
Touch Wood, is what we say in Ireland
Awesome
Thank you. CUOTO
Thanks for the Last Vid from NY #CUOTO
Thank you Jason. I'm sure I will be back to work over when I run out of Rum Money. LOL CUOTO
In the channel between Port Newark and Port Elizabeth, there is an outflow, sometimes only noticeable after rain. If you go to the absolute end of that channel, closest to the airport, there was a stream or creek that flowed from the area of the airport toward the east, into that channel. Back in about 1989, we used that end of the channel to hang a line out between ship's, as that berth was rarely used, and, at that time, no one chased us away from the berth. After a good rain, you could see there was an outflow, even when the tide was rising.
WOW. I didn't know that but I sure have felt it. Thank you for watching. COUTO
Waiting to see you in PR area working.
Thank you for watching Arthur. Tomorrow a PR video is coming out. CUOTO
Fair winds and following seas captain. Looking forward to your next adventure on the seas. CUOTO!
Thank you very much for watching Chuck. CUOTO
Touch wood in Great Britain.
Thank you for watching Gary. CUOTO
Fantastic yet again Tim, I watched from start to finish and enjoyed seeing the other passing traffic and the radios chatter. Plus your phone call
In England as other have said it’s touch wood
Thank you very much for watching Mike. CUOTO
In answer to your question it’s ‘Touchwood’ here in the UK
Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea You take care mate and good luck with the new position
Wonderful video. I love how you explain the "twist". On a side note I've never heard of Port Jefferson until I watched your channel. My wife and I were staying in Stony Brook and I realized how close we were to Port Jeff. Went over for lunch and stroll. What a cool little town. Thank you for showing us a part of the country we never knew about.
That is great and your story makes me very happy. Port Jefferson is a wonderful town isn't it? CUOTO
Z- drives are amazing. After running one you never wanna go back to a conventional.
I bet! Thank you for watching Jacob. CUOTO
It’s fascinating
Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel. CUOTO
I always wondered what it was like being a tug captain. After watching the tug boat push barges into the norwalk harbor and squeeze them through one of the oldest railroad bridges its just fascinating how its done. Thank you for sharing and like watching your sailing even from a power boat fisherman.
Thank you for watching Craig. Remember that I too am not a sailor, but am working my way towards that goal. CUOTO
Sweden here. We say; touch on wood. And sometimes we ad; pepper pepper, touch on wood
Yes that's right touch on wood, my grandmother was Swedish and she said that. Makes me think of her
Thank you Johan. I have not heard the pepper pepper part. I love that. Thank you for watching. CUOTO
Thank you Adam. That makes me happy. CUOTO
It's been a great time travelling with you these many months! Thanks for all your hard work bringing these journeys to us. Looking forward to more as you settle into Caribbean life working and sailing with Paquita. CUOTO
Thank you Dick! I really appreciate you and the others watching. I just set up my Satellite Tracker. You can follow along in real-time as we sail from PR to FLA. (Leaving on Sunday) CUOTO

Interesting. Thank you for watching Pete. CUOTO
15:20: Built by Washburn & Doughty. Those are about 5k hp and around 80 tons of bollard pull (I think).
That sounds right. I love those boats. Thank you for watching Scott. CUOTO
@@TimBatSea Great that you put so much effort into producing content of this caliber. Back in my school days, we marine engineering students would take it upon ourselves to visit calling ships in Portland Harbor. If we were lucky, they might be shifting oil docks and we'd get to ride along while they maneuvered and answered bells. That was our version of RUclips. Your content is pure gold for fledgling mariners (especially the "rope chokers", lol). Looking forward to future content. CUOTO, Cap'.
Hi Captain Tim!
CUOTO
Thank you very much for watching and supporting the channels Mellissa. CUOTO
Wow! Are you retiring then?
😂😂😂😂 I wish 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you very much for watching. No, I am working down here in the Caribbean. The channel continues every Tuesday. Just now you will see more offshore towing. CUOTO

👌👌👌thanks. See you
Thank you for watching Jacob. CUOTO
Tractor tug? Equal to a z drive?
Never mind, you said z drive. Never heard it called a tractor tug. I should watch more of the video before commenting. Ty
Yes! Thank you for watching. CUOTO
A nice relaxing ride along with you. Well done and be safe.
Thank you very much Richard. CUOTO
Nice explanation of tractor vs conventional tugs. It always surprises me how many comments there are on RUclips complaining that professionals are using the wrong equipment. They never even think of the cost side of the cost-benefit analysis. The absolute best-case response to "But you should be using a tractor tug!" is "Sure, if somebody replaced our current tug with a tractor tug for free, we'd be all over it, but nobody's gonna do that and have you seen how much a new tug costs?" And you seem to be saying that the answer is actually "Well, even if somebody offered to replace our current tug with a tractor tug for free, we'd probably still say no because the extra maintenance costs would still make that a bad business decision."
💯!!!!! Thank you very much for watching. CUOTO
Hey Tim, how long did it take you from ab to master of tow?
Thank you for watching. It took me about 10 years. CUOTO
👍👊😎
Thank you for watching George. CUOTO
Bon voyage in your next place of assignments. Touch WOOD, it will be enjoyable for you😊

LOL!! Thank you very much Terry. CUOTO
God speed Tim. I hope your new company lets you make these videos too. If not I will watch your sailing channel. Havagudun Cap.
Thank you for watching. It's the same company, just a different boat in a different place. CUOTO
Those container vessel's have cargo inside of them or all just top side?...bye the way looking forward to seeing video from your new job👍🤠🌴🇺🇸
