Even better question is, why is this now a problem? Its not like drag queens are a brand new thing. I guess its also time to ban Mrs. Doubtfire, all of the Madea productions, RuPaul's Drag Show... Where's the line? Let's ban all costumes? Lets ban wigs and makeup? Let's be honest; no one actually cares - just like the bathroom bills. It's just another step at continuing to marginalize people most different from the white straight American ideals. Another nothingburger led by feelings instead of facts. Meanwhile kids are getting dumber because we spend more money fighting dumb crap like this instead of illiteracy or childhood hunger/obesity, etc.

Many things just aren’t for kids. We shouldn’t try to make them for kids. Just like you don’t bring your kids to an adult comedy show or an adult burlesque show (or you shouldn’t). It’s not being woke, it’s overexposure that leads to compromised safety for the children.
I know it’s been politicized - it shouldn’t have to be. It’s completely missing the point and people who push in either direction need to drop the kids off before they go and drop them out of the whole debate.
Drag doesn’t have anything to do with gender roles - drag isn’t gender specific. It’s not usually a cis thing, but that’s not the point. The point is not to stop children from seeing or being influenced by the appearance of someone dressed in drag. Transgender is not drag. Drag is a completely different thing. It’s about big adult persona and performances that aren’t meant for children.

But drag isn't always for just for adult entertainment. Like the reporter said, there are age appropriate shows. Fully covered up, not twerking, and teaching children to BE THEMSELVES. That's all. I've even seen drag magic shows and karaoke and it's so much fun. Besides, drag has been in front of children for decades. Don't choose now to complain. Bugs Bunny, Tootsie, White Chicks, Madea, Mrs. Doubtfire, SNL, etc. This is nothing. This is just a diversion the right-wing has used to ignore the mass shootings. That's all and I'm smart enough not to fall for it. Are you?

I’m a former Republican who lives in Central Florida basically right in the middle of all this nonsense. Outright banning drag shows is so dumb and such a waste of time and money. I think we shouldn’t be sexualizing are kids at all but some of these shows are comedy. They are meant to be funny or serious and have nothing to do with sexualizing kids or converting kids or whatever nonsense people spew. If anything is talking kids into surgery or griming them I’m against it whether it’s straight, gay, trans don’t care sex with kids is disgusting. If it’s not that then who cares ? Why make a big deal out of it ?

The people vehemently protesting drag shows haven't been to a drag show and assume it is something it isn't. It's like knowing that stripclubs exist and therefore wishing to ban ballet under the assumption that all dancing is sexual.
Ban sexual cabaret acts from kids, absolutely. But don't ban drag shows, that is something different.

It might not necessarily be inappropriate for "drag queen's" to read stories for children (depending on the context), but it is definitely completely unnecessary. If you want to read stories to kids (and why would you?) you should do it while wearing your normal day clothes! Like any normal human being would.
