- As a break from recording the next BIG video here is a small test of the brand new Plasma weapon type in the pre-alpha state currently in From The Depths! This weapon is majorly subject to change and so everything shown here could very well be different upon full release!
It Is entering the alpha branch of the game soon (I'm told before next month, though that is also subject to change!) And I am SO happy to see new weapons still being added to this game!!
Tell me your thoughts of the new weapon, any feedback I'm sure the devs would love to see! :D

It should be possible based on the pieces of the plasma to build a multibarrell one that could act like a shotgun. 😇 Then again I guess that should be true about other weapons too.
What you think? with plasma being added it, ther will be a chance for FIRE and BURNING of blocks mechanics introduced to FTD ?
Would be neat for the shotgun attachment to allow for a number of smaller shots that act as a sort of splat of armour eating/weakening plasma instead.
Basically, have it go from a consistent armour pierce shot to a secondary weapon that makes it easier for other weapons to punch through.
As one of the other people in the closed branch, I've honestly really liked it, I'm already working on figuring out how to best implement it on the in game faction craft. It's pretty weird to optimize, but seems pretty good and compact.

From The Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future, even experimental things such as this. :)
Agreed
Yes!
Yes.
Same here

i never thought i would live to see a day where a massive game like from the depths adds something major like this its beautiful
its terrible, literally none of these numbers are attempting to be balanced. 100 base armor pen means that literally nothing takes mitigated damage from plasma, the components like every other internal that isnt fuel engines is massively overly-durable because of raw health bloat, and the damage efficiency is absolutely absurd
@@F14thunderhawk Almost as if it's just a concept that's not even in the alpha state yet...
@@F14thunderhawk 🤡
@@F14thunderhawk@F14thunderhawk you know it's not gonna be released in this state right?? He literally said at the beginning of the video that the developers are asking for feedback before actually adding it to the game
@@F14thunderhawk all the original weapons before updates were busted as hell except perhaps PACs. There’s still plenty of time to fix it and additionally it’s not like being balanced is as important in a game that is mostly single player. If it trivializes the game you can literally just ignore it or modify the game to remove it.
Great to see this game still get updates (also I'm thinking the Lightning Hoods are going to love these)
too bad no one is actually maintaining LH
Great news LH is being handled and yes they are getting plasma
Lath: "So I threw this thing together in under an hour"
Normal people: "We made a borg cube with wheels and a turret on top in twice the time. You made something that actually looks like a tank."
does your cube at least work? .....noooo?....nope it just exploded .... and i forgot to save it .sigh..mild rage quiting noises
@@leonardwiltsch9290 you can recover stuff even after a rage quit or crash. Should be saved in your blueprints somewhere.
There's definitely that vibe of artists having trouble seeing how good their own work is.
I hope he can recognize that. Whenever I want to make something look better I take my boxes and add more struts and greebly lines to make it more like his.
speculation: i think the accelerators are there to make energy to speed more efficient. so you would need les energy to get the same amount of speed.
I wonder if its a tradeoff like, either you put heatsinks, or accelerators, or need a longer barrel.
Tho I dont like how the tradeoff of longer barrels usually being "does it look stupid".
@@termitreter6545 i think the trade of would be cost, that those accelerators are pretty expensive and easy to shoot of
@@ghossts Tbh, if they are easy to shoot off, would you even use them at all? Gun barrels are very exposed and tank a lot of hits.
@@termitreter6545 tbh i would because we don't know the numbers right now but if it increases efficiency greatly then it's almost a must for small crafts. Only huge crafts or close range crafts can afford to make it snubnose.
@@ghossts turns out they just increase the max energy that can be used to accelerate charges
I remember being hyped for advanced cannons, now we are getting plasma!
Awesome that you got to show this off! What a treat for us! 😄
First thing that jumps out to me is how expensive plasma blocks are, and how pricey the tank ends up being: over 110k, for such a small vehicle!
For now it seems plasma is similar in niche to PAC: a very expensive "Eff You" button with no real hard counter, but other weapon systems will be far cheaper and more material efficient. Which is good, because we don't want FtD to just become a plasma weapons simulator, do we? XD
Looking forward to messing with these! From the Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future! 👍
Gonna be real interesting when the Scarlet Dawn officers have to explain to high command how their entire fleet was wiped out by a canoe with a plasma gun duct taped to it
The new plasma cannon looks pretty awesome! It seems kinda like a laser and particle cannon had a baby that wants to be a railgun if that makes sense😂 I think it’ll be a great addition to the game and I can’t wait to make some new machines of violence with it!
Plasma weapons are basically like lasers but instead of spicy light, it's spicy gas with railguns.
@@ardantop132na6 Plasma weaponry is usually coil-based
I think the visual size of each shot should scale with the number of charges used, im thinking; huge huge, slow moving, ship eating shot with a 5m diameter
(and 5m diameter hitbox on that projectile? could be good for a 'microwave gun' style of AA),
would also be interesting to have inaccuracy scale with temperature, rather than having a temperature limit, so that shots can go full storm trooper :D
I hope shields are gonna get reworked again, I feel like the ring shield have problems with being underpowered. If more types of weapons are going to be added, you need to balance it with more defensive options.
Though for the record, I think that the current state of the plasma cannon actually gives ring shields a niche use. If you combined stacked heavy armor with a ring shield might actually give you enough armor to bock the Plasma's 100 AP. Though again, it's only a niche use for if you know your fighting plasma.
@strcmdrbookwyrm4303 sorry to say this...
but Plasma deals more damage the higher AC the thing it hits...
so it destroys HA and all of the SD existence but can't kill OW good enough(like literally)
@@britishneko3906 Huh... I didn't know that. Lathrix certainly didn't mention it anyway. Where'd you get that information?
I think that this being energy based should be countered by shields. It gives this weapon a weakness as well as giving shields more utility as to what they defend against.
Or counter shields
This is very interesting as the high AP encourages more wood/metal in an armor scheme as opposed to the ERA/HA meta. It also deals largely surface damage against armor instead of internal damage like some of the more meta options. Really changes the way craft will be designed I think.
it deals so much damage for its investment that it doesnt matter that it does surface damage without deep effects. it will obliterate everything.
you just want to be mad at a PRE alpha system don't you? @@F14thunderhawk
Yup, its a bit of an anti-meta weapon, itll be good at fighting heavy armor. More like a soft counter tho, looks quite versatile as a system. The high projectile speed will also be good vs fast enemies and orbiters.
I like it.
well it wont really because after a certain point armor becomes a moot point anyway so a lot of the really good vehicles especially non faction vehicles are very redundant and that is what makes them last so long that or they just zap you from existence from so far away hitting them becomes a huge problem
@@hypernovamkvi715 Yup, really big vehicles rely on redundancy. For defeating plasma, people will likely mix more metal/alloy with their heavy armor.
Especially that whack 4m HA slope/wedge armor is likely gonna lose out. People do it for the high HP and shell-deflection, but it might be too much of a point of failure vs plasma.
i feel like if plasma rounds used their heat mechanic to act like flares i feel it would be really interesting
This is incredibly cool and we're so happy you've been allowed to show it off! Blood for the blood god! Milk for the khorne flakes!
I have been waiting for a plasma cannon weapon design for AGES! I love that its range limited, and fairly low damage per shot, but with high AP. Oddly, I hope that shields set to laser defense work against these.
Considering how smokes doesn't affect them, I suspect that's because shields will be the main countermeasure against plasma weapons, which make shields more valuable than just a soft counter to APS and laser.
You know, I didn't really expect to see more than 1 or 2 FtD videos before you went back to other things. I am pleasantly surprised to see you sticking with it and I've watched all of the FtD videos so far! I too am very pleased with the new weapon.
ALL the FtD videos?! That's a lot of videos. Lathrix has been doing FtD stuff for a long, long time.
His channel got selected by the algorithm so hes pumping out as many of those type "long FTD vids" as he can to keep up the view and make the most of it
@@jadekaiser7840yeah but he went a long time not doing many FTD videos and now hes doing ONLY ftd vids for a handful of times in a row
@@jadekaiser7840 I've seen them all, but I've been subscribed for a really really long time lmao. I miss Robocraft, the devs did that game dirty.
@@jadekaiser7840
Yes, I’ve watched all his ftd videos as well. His “Ashes of the Empire” campaign is my second-favorite, just behind his 2016 “Quest for Neter.”
Feedback for plasma: I think it could be a little nerved by using "AP=ChargesPerShot*10" but the weapon looks really good so far and i can't wait to test it out!
Feedback for Lathland: From The Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future!!!
Loving that you're getting these kinds of previews and thus the recognition of what you bring to this game!
Such A cool weapon! I feel like the heat mechanic is really cool, but needs to be more of a limiting factor on the weapon/more of an issue for the builder. Just as a balancing thing, I would rather heat than slowing down shots or making energy more expensive, because rail guns and lasers are already energy limited, so heat is more interesting.
12:42 heatsinks decrease your weapon's temperature, you need them because you cant fire it above a threshold of 1k celsius
Neat; now do a Covenant CCS cruiser or Lich using the plasma cannons!
I'd also love to see the plasma weapon have a "lance" function for long range shots and a "projector" version for up close work that has relatively bad range but that vomits out fire and EMP damage.
It would be interesting if the plasma bolts would heat up the target, so the target would start taking more and more heat damage, as long as you keep firing on it.
Neat, a new weapon. Looking promising but I would like to see more components for things like altering splash damage (or projectile size) or damage dropoff or even short range shotgun-like cone just to throw out some ideas.
I'm assuming the "split in 2" barrel will stack to some degree. It'd be cool if it multiplied projectiles by 2 per section but it's more likely just +1 pellet
Ooooo Plasma sounds cool. I love the From the Depths series! It definitely is a series I'd like to see continued in the future.
I hope they add some parts to decrease the damage loss and increase the explosion size for this thing, then my dream of a Wraith in ftd would be complete.
i would add a overcharger componend-block that ups the damage but also ups the damage drop.
and its counterpart
something like a 'exploding injector' that adds explosions but the projectile explodes randomly (before hitting?)
homing that works better on slow projetiles
an atillery thingy ...with homing like the cram morter but ENERGY
a heavy mentlet for BIG GUNS
a fast mentlet for ratation speed
a multibarel mentlet for multiple barrens ... with the desabeliser to create a wall of plasma bullets as Anti-missile
Plasma Weaponry, you say? The Emperor approves! Looking forward to all the designs you come up with to spread the "love". And exclusive preview? Lath is moving up in the FtD- World! Nice one, Lath. Good on ya!
From The Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future, especially with more plasma cannon evolution 🙂
I would love to see a Plasma mortar
This gives me a Robocraft feeling
from the depths is a wonderful thing I wish to see continued in the future! It's a series of yours I've really grown up on, and I absolutely love it. I hope you're having a very good day!
It's so cool you get to test a weapon before it even hits alpha.
Now people can accurately build their favorite Star Wars ships.
i always enjoy your slightly rambling yet very entertaining videos.. thanks. honestly i avoided the from the depths content for awhile and i regret that now
Ooooooh! Looking good can't wait for this to feature in a future episode 🙌
I really like the fast projectile speed and armor penetration! Looks like its gonna be a lot of fun to design crafts to use, and also to combat against this new weapon. Might end up seeing more wood or a new armor strategy used in builds and i think thats pretty cool!
seems like the kind of weapon you'd use in a twin-turret lineup. It busts armor, cram cannon follows in through the hole it made.
It breaks armor but doesnt seem to actually KILL the target very quick
This is so cool!
From The Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future.
Loving the direction this channel is going lately with all the from the depths and full playthroughs in general! Also apparently Avorion is getting a big update/free dlc soon and I'd love to see you revisit that game once that's out! ❤
Fun fact: The Plasma Cannons has been in the game for years, in form of unused meshes.
So we're finally getting it? After all these years? Glorious.
Yooo I didn't think it would ever happen for some reason, nice to see new weapons!
So jealous!!! Can't wait to get my hands on this new weapon.
Hi Lathrix, I love your videos and you inspired me start playing from the depths, but I am unable until I get a new computer, all these new changes to the game make me want to play so bad, but as of now watching your videos is the closest thing to it, so please keep posting.
Holy shit this is literally something thought of like a year ago (I had just watched SG1) - energy weapon with travel time and customizable attributes.
I might like to see variable shot dimensions at the cost of charges, and/or being able to have very close together shots condense into a single (longer) plasma blob.
Very excited for this!
This is fantastic and I can't wait to see more!
OMG that is quite cool! Can't wait to lay my hands upon them!
This video was great and it gave me an idea for another video I'd love to see. It would be awesome if you could do a "Getting started" style of series where you show how to build a basic version of all of the weapon types, how to get a vehicle moving and generating power, tips and tricks for survivability and durable weapon design, etc. A catch all design class for someone just starting out in the game style of video.
I just commented here and got confused between this video and another more serious video and thought you were talking about weapons in real life LOL
@@gotyouchip1179 Haha, nope, no real carnage here, unless you're made of pixels 😂
OOOH! Recently i've learned how to build every caregory's structures, nice to know that there'll be new things to explore soon!
these came sooner than i was expecting!
This is awesome. Always loved plasma weapons from video games.
Love the more building focus stuff. (kinda missed that)
Keep on comin with From the Depths. It is indeed a series I wish to be continued
I'm so glad you made this video cause I've been craving from the depths after my pc broke down
just amazing i love this to bits ( and the enemy too)
More FtD!!! Yesss.
Also my my that few seconds at the start, that tank got shredded.
Such a cool concept of weapons. Seems fun
a new Lathland video once i wake up? this is starting to be a great day
From the Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future, that includes building videos, watching the tetris get worked on and listening to discussion of it is soothing!

Would love to see more of this kind of new stuff discovery!
THE BLOOD GODS HAVE CHOSEN OUR SAVIOR
This weapon already looks awesome, can't wait to test it out!
WHAT?! A completely new weapon type??? Holy hell this is cool. A completely new weapon to learn and master, a whole new option for arming a craft. I'm so hyped.
I really like the plasma stuff. I think it's cool. Gives more options for weapons and stuff, styles of weapons. An expansion to the energy weapons is welcome.
It's super cool.
Love to see a new weapon in ftd, i did not think that whould happen, i really enjoyed the recent videos and i hope the series will continue.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I am going to LOVE this weapons. Also particle cannons are the same thing like plasma cannon. They both shot hard energy things to destroy. BUT, plasma are ball of energy. Particle are line of energy like light saber.
I just got from the depths, and I have been a fan for years. I would love it if you did a tournament like the April Fools' tournament years ago, but with fan Creations UP against 1 of yours with restrictions on volume and cost.
And now we wait for the inevitable "I figured out how to build a proper plasma shotgun and it can blow up the world" video heheh :P Great first look at the new weapon! I can see a lot of fun potential for these in builds. I like the look of them a lot.
We love Larry! And wish to see the series continued in the future!
GOD, I"VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG
I was trying to find a good video, then it said you uploaded a video 27 seconds ago.
I’m looking forward to watch it.
From The Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future. Love the content
Yes indeed! From The Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future! PLASMA IS WITHIN OUR GRASP!
ilove how ftd puts all the items in the inventory menu thing in the order they work, its a really good detail to slightly help new players
Absolutely hyped to see a new weapon! thats huuuuge!
From the Depths is a series we wish to see continued in the future.
Interesting weapon, not what I expected but interesting. It doesn't look like its doing much damage, but it seems to be doing a lot. I do think the heat sinks make it look cool, even if they're not really needed.
From The Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future, even experimental things such as this
3:28 (one frame) inaccuracy is .06 degrees
12:54 inaccuracy is .03 degrees
I don't think the difference is great enough to really incentivize building long barrels (which might be a good thing lol, an advanced cannon with good accuracy usually looks pretty dumb) but it looks like adding them barrels will improve accuracy. This is in response to Lath asking about it in the video.
It's awesome to see this game is still under active development, and even more awesome to see Lathland still covering it
You could use the plasma for a defence building with 2 different gun barrels one slow high damage and the other one high RPM and low damage for ground and air targets respectfully.
From The Depths is a series I wish to see continued in the future!
This weapon looks so cool! Excited to mess around with it myself!
FTD challenge suggestion: different environment challenge: after 10 minutes you must change your location from sea to the air or sea to under water or under water to sea. This rule could be ignored when entering portals. You could spend 10 minutes in the air, 5 minutes above water 10 minutes below water.
I think that would largely just make a flier that can be a submarine, that was in one of the earlier adventure mode series he did and it went very well.
Loving the idea of a challenge that targets what he'd doing during the run though.
Love the plasma can't wait to see more updates on it
Would love to see a series of just designing sick weapon
neat that the devs are still working on new things and amaizng things at that, also dont worry about your stutter its part of the fun of watching you
Omgomgomg a new video AND a new weapon??? Woooooo...
Also from the depths is a series that I honestly like the most on RUclips... Thanks for all the years of entertainment :)
now that the plasma is actually released am hyped for the full playthrough of plasma adventure!
I always imagined that plasma would be the next type of weapon in FtD, this is perfect for me as I wanted to at some point recreate the units from Rusted warfare RTS. Really looking forward to this.
I'm also wondering about its uses in CWIS, plasma anti-missile systems would be amazing.
This is a series i wish to see continued in the future, and I so can not wait to try these weapons myself, even if i doubt they will ever include the incendiary capabilities that I've long wanted to use against the DWG, I can see these plasma cannons being a especially good weapon against the Onyx Watch with their heavy armor and air gaps. I am SCARED to see the Lightning Hoods adopt them though. Smoke wont be enough soon...
Really excited to see this in the game
story mode fleet idea:
Main/capital ship: spaceborne weapons platform, with some decorative command centers and such in addition to a massive laser weapons system and a few huge missiles. Has spots to dock and repair the other ships.
Other ships are primarily flying vessels that have a variety of weapons, but overall similar designs - think a modular base with the weapons being modules that are added onto that.
Make it a covenant supercarrier
I love the "ok" after testing the 16 charge shot and just obliterating the enemy
The first thing is said to this is one of my favorite lathland quote "ooo things"
I think you could change the amount of charges fired based on the size of the enemy with an ACB or breadboard block setter. That might not be implemented yet, but could happen soon. Reducing the energy per shot also seems like a smart idea on slower targets, to make the weapon more efficient, since you don't need a high projectile speed agains slower targets.
From the Depths is a series I would like to see continued in the future.
Looks great, just hope there is a way to countrr
From the Depths devs sending a helicopter to lathrix to try figure out how he got the pre-alpha.
I'm stoked to see a new weapon platform in FtD. I only started playing a couple of weeks ago but I've already clocked around 230 hours in the game. Glad it's still getting big updates like these.
a new weapon type in from the depths wasnt something i thought i'd wake up to but im certainly excited to see thid in the future
Great video keep up the games you like
These weapons look really fun.
A projectile that has no speed/ AP falloff, only damage like a laser/ PAC.
I do wonder how will they interact with the different active and passive defenses (LAMS, shields, water).
Maybe even a plasma CIWS.
Really enjoy this info style of video, would love for more "one off" tutorial videos. This game is so much fun but I feel like a lost child at the supermarket trying to figure out the complexities of it.
