I had mine pre ordered digitally onto my 3DS, and I am GLAD I did (Also, every cent goes STRAIGHT to Nintendo itself. If that doesn't help, I don't know what will.). It lives up to all the hype and it also is a FANTASTIC nostalgic throwback game as well. I play the game so intensely that I have to stop once in a while because BOTH my hands get cramps. Personally, I think it is a game that is worth EVERY cent.
exactly how I Played Fusion and Zero Mission on the GBA! I mastered the art of wall jumping and bomb jumping and got hyped for the speedrunning!, the E-shop has it put in the genre of action adventure, but they should just tag the genre Metroidvania since they invented Metroid!
I've been a huge fan of Metroid for as long as I can remember. I pre-ordered the special edition of this game the day it was announced, and I have absolutely no regrets, I just beat it 100% a few hours ago.

By refusing to buy Samus returns you are not only failing to support Metroid, but also disregarding the AM2R creator and their love for the franchise. My biggest complaint is that they lock the hard mode of the game behind an Amiibo. Personally, I do not like what Amiibo have become, basically being physical microtransactions.
My favorite thing about the scan pulse is the fact that it's the one ability you are not forced to use it, like u can go the while game without using it its just there for people who are stuck or lost and can help in speedruns
Just finished my 1st playthrough. Loved how they used the 3D effects on the background, that really did a lot for the entire atmosphere (and made me use 3D voluntarily, which I rarely do). Gameplay is solid as well as length. Did not like the escape part, but that's just me. And oh boy, it felt kinda like a remake, but I had no idea that it actually was! xD So my wish for more bosses cannot be applied anymore. Two things I would have liked to be different: The scanner is very neat, but it took away too much form the "fun" of searching for caches, instead you just collect or leave a marker on the map for later (which is neat, btw). So maybe, that ability could be pushed to a later part of the game. The other thing is switching beams and missiles. I have a New 3DS with 2 shoulder buttons each, but only one is used on each side. I don't like greasing up my lower screen, so I would have liked an option to toggle through beams and missiles with a button press. Same goes for morph ball: I know it's petty, but sometimes, it would have worked better for me if I had one single button to go into morph ball, as not to lose momentum while...escaping a oneshotting mofo for example...? ^^ Regarding your video: My two cents are that you show almost too much of what the game offers. I mean, yeah, everyone who has played Metroid before knows what can be expected, but still. But that's just my recent desire to encounter new games without seeing any footage beforehand (provided I trust the game is going to be good). So thanks for the vid and thanks for confirming my suspicion about it being a remake! =)
Goin' In Dry No problem and if you're patient enough then try waiting for a bit. ATLUS usually puts their games on sale when they release a new game. Especially since the new game coming out is Etrian Odyssey 5, which will be releasing soon. My final advice to you is to play on the hardest difficulty mode. It's challenging but VERY satisfying! But if you find it too hard then know you can change the difficulty at anytime in a village.
Been wanting to try a 2D Metroid (have only played the Prime Trilogy and that Metroid sampler on one of the Smash Bros games) and haven't really used my 3DS in awhile, so I'll definitely be checking this out!
I agree, this is a damn fine and solid Metroid experience. The Scan pulse aeon ability seems to be putting a lot of people on edge though. I don't think its that big of an issue because the player is never forced to use it and one can still just bomb every nook and cranny in search of collectibles and secrets. For me it doesn't take away from the experience because even when you do use it, it only reveals a small portion of the map and you still have to figure out how to access a hidden area once its revealed. It certainly doesn't hinder the game in my opinion. But rejoice Metroid fans, this one is definitely worth the time and money.
I'm glad I got this. I pre-purchased it several weeks before distribution and so far it's been worth every penny and minute I put InTo it! I love the Metroid Series (in side-scrolling form like this one) and I sincerely hope there's some way they can put Metroid Fusion on 3DS. I loved that one.
I bought a 3DS for this, and so far I love it. I remember playing the Original Metroid Return of Samus when it came out and this brings me back to that era.

I remember I had to mow lawns for a month to earn the money to buy metroid 2 for the original GameBoy. I was excited for this immediately after I found out about it. Preordered a copy of the standard version. I'm having a great time with it. Pretty sure I'll play through it more than once
Ever sense I got a XBOX ONE I put down my new 3DS I got my Xbox on may 25 and never played my 3DS but when this was teased and then released I bought it a day after release and man this gives my another reason to play my 3DS because I love this game it's addicting the animation are so fluid and when I looked at the hours I was already at 6-7 hours the day I bought it lol I didn't think I was on that much but that shows you how much fun I have with this, I'm so glad Nintendo made this game and I hope there will be more like this and I will definitely buy them
Metroid is my all time favorite game series and Nintendo more than made up for Other M and Federation Force(which I admittedly have not played) in my opinion. This is a strong return to form that both the fans and Metroid needed.

alucardF91 it's fun, for what it's worth this is my first 2D Metroid (I've only played the Prime trilogy) and I love it. The 3ds is a great little console with some very good games. Easily one of my favorite Nintendo systems. Other 3ds titles I would recommend picking up are Kirby Planet Robobot, Yoshi's wooly world, Zelda Link Between Worlds, Donkey Kong Country Returns, super Mario 3d land... The Zelda 3ds remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are also good. There's also a good variety of digital games on the eShop and you can get older Nintendo games. There's some Mega Man games too, I think there's a game collection. If you like fighting games, Super Smash Bros 4 is fun, has online, and added Mega Man to the roster. I love my PS4 but I play my 3DS more than anything. In a few months the Nintendo Switch may also interest you if you enjoy your 3ds, once it has a beefier library and Metroid Prime 4 releases. Hope you like this game!
This game is on a handheld, so it isn't a console. You could buy a 3DS. It has many upon many excellent games (including Samus Returns). But the 3DS is a dying console. It's a two edged sword. If you want to start with Nintendo either buy the 3DS or their newest "console" (hybrid), the Nintendo Switch. The Switch has some amazing games right now, but there aren't many first party games unlike the 3DS. That's because the Switch is out only for 6 months, but the Switch has something the 3DS unfortunately doesn't have for too long, a future. The Switch will be for thr next 6-7 years on the market, unlike the 3DSs 1 1/4 (maybe even shorter depending on Switchs success) remaining years

Huge Metroid fan here. I love the series, but I likely won't be playing any new Metroid game, ever (including Samus Returns). I don't even feel like giving them a chance. Why? Well the Metroid series was originally created to appeal to the slightly older audiences, and it's one of the reasons why I loved it so much. I fell in love with exploring Super's dark, isolated themes. I noticed a trend that began with Prime 3; each new Metroid game is becoming increasingly.. family friendly. Which is fine, I suppose. If that's what the other fans want. However, I'll be turning the other way until Nintendo learns how to make a game for adults.
Long time metroid fan, like from 5 years old! I love this new modern metroid. Made me break out my 3ds I got when they first came out and only played kid Icarus like twice. Thumbs are sore, I'll def be getting into other 3ds titles. New Castlevania's next maybe?

The thumbnail doesn't even have the right helmet. That's the Metroid Prime 2 Echoes helmet. The new one is so distinct and easy to find, yet you still didn't use it.
It's a good Metroid game. Few problems are that the 3DS graphically can do better. The controls can be very awkward at times. Other than that it's a very faithful update to a genre defining classic like Metroid 2.

I bought a 2DS XL Console + Metroid:Samus Returns off eBay for $144. Seriously, I received the package 1 hour ago. Very first thing I did, well after setting up the console, was go to the eShop, and buy Super Metroid! That's my favorite game of all time and i cannot wait to play it. I gotta beat Samus Returns first tho, of course... I also picked up Monster Hunter: Generations...
I've never played a Metroid game and never had an interest for this one either until I saw this before you buy, I was really surprised at how good it looked and I'm a sucker for games with a parry system. Yea, prob gonna get this one soon
Wow, this looks like a really solid game! Metroid Prime Trilogy is my favorite video game of all time, so knowing that Nintendo is reviving the Metroid franchise makes me so happy!
I really liked it. I didn't think I would like the Aeon powers but they grew on me. My first playthrough took me around 20hrs 100% items. Though you only need to collect items to unlock lor art after that it does nothing for the ending as far as I can tell. My last playthrough, the 3rd, 100% items still on normal took me 8:56 but this Metroid I'm having a real hard time memorizing the areas, and planning routes out. Maybe because I'm getting older or maybe it is just the area designs. Even though there is a good amount of environmental variation from area to area and room to room being that variation isn't significant and the enemies or mostly the same everywhere you go I think that makes it more difficult to create memories from. Just a guess. I am also red/green color blind so I'm sure that adds to the sameness. Hard is Hard at least for me and even being a Metroid player from the beginning (first love, Metroid 1986). The 3DS is a serious hand crapper to play this game on; at least for me. So glad I can play with a controller and bigger screen now. Mouse for touch screen weapon swaps sucks though. The memorizing issue could come from there always being a large map and I just rely on that. I don't like the ingame design of the gravity suite. Concept art looks a bit better though I'd still have preferred staying close to the standard varia suite design with color pallete swap. But that is a minor annoyance. Teleporters, that new. Even with them getting game run time down is tricky and being each area isn't interwoven with surrounding areas as in the past I guess they are worth having. Glad to have the cannon grapple beam back. Quick swap between power beam and ice beam is nice. Love the new melee counter though I don't think it needed to be so prevalent. Nearly all enemies will charge you as soon as you are within range. Though on the other hand you gets lots of counter melee practice. On the front box are of Fusion Samus is bringing her arm cannon over and down in rather than up in a swipe that looks pretty similar to the melee counter move. That may be the inspiration. Being the Justin Bailey model is in the game I wish you could play through the game that way via unlock. Maybe someone can hack it and trade out the blaster for the arm cannon. A hack/mod to start the game with all items from the original game already acquired would be cool as well. Maybe even do a Zero Mission version were ingame items are present. I don't have the amiibos which is annoying and if I did have them I have to go back to playing on the 3DS to use them for the time being. That is annoying and they are pricy and hard to get. Though the 2 that were made with the game I'd like to have for decorations more than anything else (but only those). I like the varia suite design on the box art. If you look closely it look a lot more like fantasy knight armor than advanced sci-fi tech in many ways. On one hand it looks low fi and takes away from buying into it being functional advanced tech on the other hand it looks kind of cool. Definitely very similar art styles coming off the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games. I wish the game had a bit bigger budget though it didn't need it some more variety would have been nice. It is pretty clear the game didn't have a large budget. Most of the music if not all reused from previous games and some of it felt a bit out of place. Ridley at the end was a nice variation and explains how he got on the the research station in Fusion though at some point Ridley can just stay dead lol. The giant ass mining boss was a cool new enemy. That was probably the best new twist. Though before I learned his patterns he was pretty difficult. Now he is one of the easiest so long as you don't mess up too much. At least the final confrontation with him/it. Why is it hunting down artifacts and then attacks you? Just broken or is there a mission it has? We'll never know I guess. The Aeon energy seems to corrupt everything except Samus; even the Chozo if I'm reading into the 11th chozo memory right. Makes everything power hungry maybe? If so than maybe it did affect Samus for she is a beast at the end of the game, as usual. 360 aiming does work really well. I new since Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - MIrror of Fate that MercurySteam would be a good choice for Metroid. I'm glad Nintendo chose to remake 2 rather than go with what MercurySteam originally wanted to do. I'd like to see MercurySteam remake Super Metroid. It is a long time favorite but man everytime I play it I wish the sluggish controls could get an overall. They are what gave Super a lot of its over all feel but I'm ready for an overhaul; especially taking it to 2.5d. Though a bigger budget than what they had for 2 remake for sure. I am a bit disappointed with Nintendo for not promoting the game more. I didn't even know it was out until a month after its release. And I only figured that out because I was getting anxious and looked up when it was coming out to discover it has already been released. MercurySteam barely posts anything about it and they don't talk about or respond to comments really. Which makes me think they aren't allowed to for whatever reason. They promote the hell out of all their other games. I'd like to see a Switch port with anti-aliasing and more model clarity with controller and bigger screen. For now PC though it runs slow is my preferred way to play. So glad I can play without hand cramps and that tiny ass screen on the 3DS. I'll put up with game speed of 65-75% for now and no amiibo support or easy touch screen weapon swaps for now.
Metroid 2 was the first game I played in the series, and this was a fantastic re-imagining of it. Mercury Steam has certainly shown that they are capable of creating great new 2D Metroid experiences. The aeon abilities were a great addition to the Metroid formula; and free-aim is a fantastic improvement for aim control. There are a few specific aspects of the game that I feel could've been done better, and _were_ done better in AM2R - wall-jump and Screw Attack nerfs were disappointing, morph ball movement was sluggish, and some of areas seemed to lack a distinct identity - that being said, it just makes me all the more excited to see what new ideas and improvements Mercury Steam will have for their next Metroid game. 2D Metroid is back, baby! P.S.: Can someone please tell me why _every_ video about this game talks about "firing while hanging from a ledge" like it's a new thing? The free-aim certainly improves upon it, but that feature debuted in Metroid Fusion, way back in 2002!

Do you need the newest 3DS to be able to play this? It looks awesome and I want to get it but I have the regular 3DS XL, the one without the analog stick on the upper right side of it. Will it affect gameplay or do I absolutely need the newer 3DS?
I'm loving this game. I really hope we get more 2D/2.5D Metroid titles like this. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Prime games and I'm looking forward to 4 but I've always loved the 2D titles more.

i used to play the old metroid fusion ans zero mission on my gameboy advance not long ago and i had a shit tone of fun playing them even tho i didn't even got able to pass them... im sure that samus return will be as fun as they were and i hope nintendo will make more of those :)
Metroid is probably one of the few Nintendo series I never got into growing up, but I had a lot of fun playing Guacamelee so I figured why not also dust off my 3DS for this game. I bought it used from Gamestop so I have 4 more days to beat it / return it for a full refund, that being said, I also saw the new special edition 2DS XL that looks like a Hyrulian shield.... I do have the gold triforce 3DS XL so I can't really play a lot of games on the eshop because it needs the newer DS models with the c stick for certain games (like Megaman X)... And I hardly use the 3D function for more than 15 mins... I guess I'm trying to rationalize upgrading my old 3DS for the new 2DS due to me "renting" this game from Gamestop 😅

I don't think many realize this, but the scan pulse isn't really that new of an idea. The x-ray scope in super metroid was basically that, just with no cost.

I'm late to the conversation. I've had a switch for about a year and half. Mainly due to the promise of a new Metroid game. If course I negative aware of big just the delay but the complete scraping and reboot from scratch. If course the Switch is amazing anyway. I have about 70 games I'm between ok with and thrilled with. Being a big metroid fan at this point would it be worth getting a new 2dsxl or new 3dsxl exclusively just for the Samus rerturns? I know there are plenty of Dr games out there. I'm pretty sure I still have some digital downloads on my account having owned a 3ds and trading it in b4 metroid. Any opinions? Thanks in advance.

It lives up to all the hype and it also is a FANTASTIC nostalgic throwback game as well. I play the game so intensely that I have to stop once in a while because BOTH my hands get cramps.
Personally, I think it is a game that is worth EVERY cent.
exactly how I Played Fusion and Zero Mission on the GBA! I mastered the art of wall jumping and bomb jumping and got hyped for the speedrunning!, the E-shop has it put in the genre of action adventure, but they should just tag the genre Metroidvania since they invented Metroid!
I've been a huge fan of Metroid for as long as I can remember. I pre-ordered the special edition of this game the day it was announced, and I have absolutely no regrets, I just beat it 100% a few hours ago.

My biggest complaint is that they lock the hard mode of the game behind an Amiibo. Personally, I do not like what Amiibo have become, basically being physical microtransactions.

My favorite thing about the scan pulse is the fact that it's the one ability you are not forced to use it, like u can go the while game without using it its just there for people who are stuck or lost and can help in speedruns
Just finished my 1st playthrough. Loved how they used the 3D effects on the background, that really did a lot for the entire atmosphere (and made me use 3D voluntarily, which I rarely do). Gameplay is solid as well as length. Did not like the escape part, but that's just me. And oh boy, it felt kinda like a remake, but I had no idea that it actually was! xD So my wish for more bosses cannot be applied anymore. Two things I would have liked to be different: The scanner is very neat, but it took away too much form the "fun" of searching for caches, instead you just collect or leave a marker on the map for later (which is neat, btw). So maybe, that ability could be pushed to a later part of the game. The other thing is switching beams and missiles. I have a New 3DS with 2 shoulder buttons each, but only one is used on each side. I don't like greasing up my lower screen, so I would have liked an option to toggle through beams and missiles with a button press. Same goes for morph ball: I know it's petty, but sometimes, it would have worked better for me if I had one single button to go into morph ball, as not to lose momentum while...escaping a oneshotting mofo for example...? ^^
Regarding your video: My two cents are that you show almost too much of what the game offers. I mean, yeah, everyone who has played Metroid before knows what can be expected, but still. But that's just my recent desire to encounter new games without seeing any footage beforehand (provided I trust the game is going to be good).

Goin' In Dry No problem and if you're patient enough then try waiting for a bit. ATLUS usually puts their games on sale when they release a new game. Especially since the new game coming out is Etrian Odyssey 5, which will be releasing soon.
My final advice to you is to play on the hardest difficulty mode. It's challenging but VERY satisfying! But if you find it too hard then know you can change the difficulty at anytime in a village.

Been wanting to try a 2D Metroid (have only played the Prime Trilogy and that Metroid sampler on one of the Smash Bros games) and haven't really used my 3DS in awhile, so I'll definitely be checking this out!

I agree, this is a damn fine and solid Metroid experience. The Scan pulse aeon ability seems to be putting a lot of people on edge though. I don't think its that big of an issue because the player is never forced to use it and one can still just bomb every nook and cranny in search of collectibles and secrets. For me it doesn't take away from the experience because even when you do use it, it only reveals a small portion of the map and you still have to figure out how to access a hidden area once its revealed. It certainly doesn't hinder the game in my opinion. But rejoice Metroid fans, this one is definitely worth the time and money.
Zero mission was my first gameboy game I got for Christmas many years back. I am loving this game so much right now and can't wait to finish it
I'm glad I got this. I pre-purchased it several weeks before distribution and so far it's been worth every penny and minute I put InTo it! I love the Metroid Series (in side-scrolling form like this one) and I sincerely hope there's some way they can put Metroid Fusion on 3DS. I loved that one.

I remember I had to mow lawns for a month to earn the money to buy metroid 2 for the original GameBoy. I was excited for this immediately after I found out about it. Preordered a copy of the standard version. I'm having a great time with it. Pretty sure I'll play through it more than once

Ever sense I got a XBOX ONE I put down my new 3DS I got my Xbox on may 25 and never played my 3DS but when this was teased and then released I bought it a day after release and man this gives my another reason to play my 3DS because I love this game it's addicting the animation are so fluid and when I looked at the hours I was already at 6-7 hours the day I bought it lol I didn't think I was on that much but that shows you how much fun I have with this, I'm so glad Nintendo made this game and I hope there will be more like this and I will definitely buy them
Metroid is my all time favorite game series and Nintendo more than made up for Other M and Federation Force(which I admittedly have not played) in my opinion. This is a strong return to form that both the fans and Metroid needed.

alucardF91 it's fun, for what it's worth this is my first 2D Metroid (I've only played the Prime trilogy) and I love it. The 3ds is a great little console with some very good games. Easily one of my favorite Nintendo systems.
Other 3ds titles I would recommend picking up are Kirby Planet Robobot, Yoshi's wooly world, Zelda Link Between Worlds, Donkey Kong Country Returns, super Mario 3d land... The Zelda 3ds remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are also good.
There's also a good variety of digital games on the eShop and you can get older Nintendo games. There's some Mega Man games too, I think there's a game collection. If you like fighting games, Super Smash Bros 4 is fun, has online, and added Mega Man to the roster. I love my PS4 but I play my 3DS more than anything. In a few months the Nintendo Switch may also interest you if you enjoy your 3ds, once it has a beefier library and Metroid Prime 4 releases. Hope you like this game!
This game is on a handheld, so it isn't a console. You could buy a 3DS. It has many upon many excellent games (including Samus Returns). But the 3DS is a dying console. It's a two edged sword. If you want to start with Nintendo either buy the 3DS or their newest "console" (hybrid), the Nintendo Switch. The Switch has some amazing games right now, but there aren't many first party games unlike the 3DS. That's because the Switch is out only for 6 months, but the Switch has something the 3DS unfortunately doesn't have for too long, a future. The Switch will be for thr next 6-7 years on the market, unlike the 3DSs 1 1/4 (maybe even shorter depending on Switchs success) remaining years

I love the series, but I likely won't be playing any new Metroid game, ever (including Samus Returns). I don't even feel like giving them a chance.
Why? Well the Metroid series was originally created to appeal to the slightly older audiences, and it's one of the reasons why I loved it so much. I fell in love with exploring Super's dark, isolated themes. I noticed a trend that began with Prime 3; each new Metroid game is becoming increasingly.. family friendly. Which is fine, I suppose. If that's what the other fans want. However, I'll be turning the other way until Nintendo learns how to make a game for adults.
Long time metroid fan, like from 5 years old! I love this new modern metroid. Made me break out my 3ds I got when they first came out and only played kid Icarus like twice. Thumbs are sore, I'll def be getting into other 3ds titles. New Castlevania's next maybe?

The thumbnail doesn't even have the right helmet. That's the Metroid Prime 2 Echoes helmet. The new one is so distinct and easy to find, yet you still didn't use it.

It's a good Metroid game. Few problems are that the 3DS graphically can do better. The controls can be very awkward at times. Other than that it's a very faithful update to a genre defining classic like Metroid 2.
I know it won't ever happen, but I really hope they someday make a game similar to Prime Hunters. I played that game so much.

I bought a 2DS XL Console + Metroid:Samus Returns off eBay for $144. Seriously, I received the package 1 hour ago. Very first thing I did, well after setting up the console, was go to the eShop, and buy Super Metroid! That's my favorite game of all time and i cannot wait to play it. I gotta beat Samus Returns first tho, of course... I also picked up Monster Hunter: Generations...

Cool review, I appreciate the fact that you didn't include all the unique power ups as those are just fun to find and discover on your own.
I really liked it. I didn't think I would like the Aeon powers but they grew on me. My first playthrough took me around 20hrs 100% items. Though you only need to collect items to unlock lor art after that it does nothing for the ending as far as I can tell. My last playthrough, the 3rd, 100% items still on normal took me 8:56 but this Metroid I'm having a real hard time memorizing the areas, and planning routes out. Maybe because I'm getting older or maybe it is just the area designs. Even though there is a good amount of environmental variation from area to area and room to room being that variation isn't significant and the enemies or mostly the same everywhere you go I think that makes it more difficult to create memories from. Just a guess. I am also red/green color blind so I'm sure that adds to the sameness. Hard is Hard at least for me and even being a Metroid player from the beginning (first love, Metroid 1986). The 3DS is a serious hand crapper to play this game on; at least for me.
So glad I can play with a controller and bigger screen now. Mouse for touch screen weapon swaps sucks though. The memorizing issue could come from there always being a large map and I just rely on that. I don't like the ingame design of the gravity suite. Concept art looks a bit better though I'd still have preferred staying close to the standard varia suite design with color pallete swap. But that is a minor annoyance. Teleporters, that new. Even with them getting game run time down is tricky and being each area isn't interwoven with surrounding areas as in the past I guess they are worth having. Glad to have the cannon grapple beam back. Quick swap between power beam and ice beam is nice. Love the new melee counter though I don't think it needed to be so prevalent. Nearly all enemies will charge you as soon as you are within range. Though on the other hand you gets lots of counter melee practice.
On the front box are of Fusion Samus is bringing her arm cannon over and down in rather than up in a swipe that looks pretty similar to the melee counter move. That may be the inspiration. Being the Justin Bailey model is in the game I wish you could play through the game that way via unlock. Maybe someone can hack it and trade out the blaster for the arm cannon. A hack/mod to start the game with all items from the original game already acquired would be cool as well. Maybe even do a Zero Mission version were ingame items are present. I don't have the amiibos which is annoying and if I did have them I have to go back to playing on the 3DS to use them for the time being. That is annoying and they are pricy and hard to get. Though the 2 that were made with the game I'd like to have for decorations more than anything else (but only those). I like the varia suite design on the box art. If you look closely it look a lot more like fantasy knight armor than advanced sci-fi tech in many ways. On one hand it looks low fi and takes away from buying into it being functional advanced tech on the other hand it looks kind of cool. Definitely very similar art styles coming off the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games. I wish the game had a bit bigger budget though it didn't need it some more variety would have been nice.
It is pretty clear the game didn't have a large budget. Most of the music if not all reused from previous games and some of it felt a bit out of place. Ridley at the end was a nice variation and explains how he got on the the research station in Fusion though at some point Ridley can just stay dead lol. The giant ass mining boss was a cool new enemy. That was probably the best new twist. Though before I learned his patterns he was pretty difficult. Now he is one of the easiest so long as you don't mess up too much. At least the final confrontation with him/it. Why is it hunting down artifacts and then attacks you? Just broken or is there a mission it has? We'll never know I guess.
The Aeon energy seems to corrupt everything except Samus; even the Chozo if I'm reading into the 11th chozo memory right. Makes everything power hungry maybe? If so than maybe it did affect Samus for she is a beast at the end of the game, as usual. 360 aiming does work really well. I new since Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - MIrror of Fate that MercurySteam would be a good choice for Metroid. I'm glad Nintendo chose to remake 2 rather than go with what MercurySteam originally wanted to do. I'd like to see MercurySteam remake Super Metroid. It is a long time favorite but man everytime I play it I wish the sluggish controls could get an overall. They are what gave Super a lot of its over all feel but I'm ready for an overhaul; especially taking it to 2.5d. Though a bigger budget than what they had for 2 remake for sure.
I am a bit disappointed with Nintendo for not promoting the game more. I didn't even know it was out until a month after its release. And I only figured that out because I was getting anxious and looked up when it was coming out to discover it has already been released. MercurySteam barely posts anything about it and they don't talk about or respond to comments really. Which makes me think they aren't allowed to for whatever reason. They promote the hell out of all their other games. I'd like to see a Switch port with anti-aliasing and more model clarity with controller and bigger screen. For now PC though it runs slow is my preferred way to play. So glad I can play without hand cramps and that tiny ass screen on the 3DS. I'll put up with game speed of 65-75% for now and no amiibo support or easy touch screen weapon swaps for now.
Metroid 2 was the first game I played in the series, and this was a fantastic re-imagining of it. Mercury Steam has certainly shown that they are capable of creating great new 2D Metroid experiences. The aeon abilities were a great addition to the Metroid formula; and free-aim is a fantastic improvement for aim control. There are a few specific aspects of the game that I feel could've been done better, and _were_ done better in AM2R - wall-jump and Screw Attack nerfs were disappointing, morph ball movement was sluggish, and some of areas seemed to lack a distinct identity - that being said, it just makes me all the more excited to see what new ideas and improvements Mercury Steam will have for their next Metroid game. 2D Metroid is back, baby!
P.S.: Can someone please tell me why _every_ video about this game talks about "firing while hanging from a ledge" like it's a new thing? The free-aim certainly improves upon it, but that feature debuted in Metroid Fusion, way back in 2002!

Games and Game Trailers That's a pretty simple thing. There are illigal copies of games because you can pay next to nothing to make one and sell it gor more than you put into it while selling it cheaper than the original.

I'm loving this game. I really hope we get more 2D/2.5D Metroid titles like this. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Prime games and I'm looking forward to 4 but I've always loved the 2D titles more.

Just bought a Samus 3DS with Samus Returns less than a week ago and beat it 100% in under 12hrs. Going for Fusion Mode now.
Metroid is probably one of the few Nintendo series I never got into growing up, but I had a lot of fun playing Guacamelee so I figured why not also dust off my 3DS for this game.
I bought it used from Gamestop so I have 4 more days to beat it / return it for a full refund, that being said, I also saw the new special edition 2DS XL that looks like a Hyrulian shield.... I do have the gold triforce 3DS XL so I can't really play a lot of games on the eshop because it needs the newer DS models with the c stick for certain games (like Megaman X)... And I hardly use the 3D function for more than 15 mins... I guess I'm trying to rationalize upgrading my old 3DS for the new 2DS due to me "renting" this game from Gamestop 😅

I don't think many realize this, but the scan pulse isn't really that new of an idea. The x-ray scope in super metroid was basically that, just with no cost.

I'm late to the conversation. I've had a switch for about a year and half. Mainly due to the promise of a new Metroid game. If course I negative aware of big just the delay but the complete scraping and reboot from scratch. If course the Switch is amazing anyway. I have about 70 games I'm between ok with and thrilled with. Being a big metroid fan at this point would it be worth getting a new 2dsxl or new 3dsxl exclusively just for the Samus rerturns? I know there are plenty of Dr games out there. I'm pretty sure I still have some digital downloads on my account having owned a 3ds and trading it in b4 metroid. Any opinions? Thanks in advance.
