Very good dialogue, comments and information. Thank you, guys. Suggestion: The video would be far more interesting and less monotonous if you had some b-roll while speaking, especially while you are referencing specific equipment or situations.
I was extremely surprised at how well it was said the high-frequency panels worked full-range without the woofer panels even turned on! & it immediately made me think Magnepan could equally-well design a woofer panel with the appropriate crossover to audibly & visually supplement the LRS speakers as an add-on woofer, then the LRS would become an even more tempting speaker purchase that can be listened to alone & then later upgraded with Magnepan's same-height tho slightly-wider add-on woofers, (a poorer man's Mini-Mini 30.7?) & thus many LRS customers will return to Magnepan to buy that upgrade, i personally like the idea ...Wendel?
Hey, you guys should go easy on Wendell. Sounds like a great guy. It's great that you recorded the event but for the next one it would be a good idea to use a wireless lapel microphone. Just a little constructive criticism. Wish I could have been there. Great job. I'm a Magnepan owner and a huge fan. My interest is piqued regarding being able to buy the sub separately.
I actually just designed a open baffle 4x12 inch per side for my tympani I 😎 I will get some really good woofers, make a slanted baffle at 6ft tall. I don't care if it takes up my space, die hard here people.
Bob Carver designed his original Amazing Loudspeaker panels with some relatively light weight 12 inch dipole bass drivers that are very fast and to my ear match perfectly with the large ribbon tweeters . I don't know if you guys are familiar with the original Carver ALS systems, I own the Platinum series with 4 X 12" in each panel, and there is a Silver model that is somewhat smaller with 3X 12" bass drivers per panel. If you are not familiar with these amazing speakers, I suggest a little research online might inspire further discussion on this discussion. I love the open sound of my old Maggies & I was in the market for some newer Magnaplaners to add to my Phase Linear audio system when I discovered the Carver panels that I ended up buying instead. I feel I get the same open soundstage that electrostats provided without having to utilize my subwoofer at all.
Adrian Low cool thanks, there are not allot of pictures of the backs of different models. Are the .7s and 1.7s the same in this regard? Do they look good on both sides? PS: this would not be my reference system, just mainly for ambient listening with guests etc...
I still have my 2.7, which I bought in the 90s and don't wish to change them. They are decoupled from the floor on bespoke Townshend Audio Seismic Platforms, which solve all the problems other companies try to address wth bracing and other kinds of supports. My power amp is the GamuT D200 Mk 3, whose high current capability is a match made in heaven for these speakers. The lower frequencies are supplemented by an REL S5 sub. The 2.7 is a real hot rod, and I bet it was discontinued because it was eating into 3.6 sales.
Please wake me up when I can listen to 90's Rock and late 70's/early '80's Punk/New Wave on Magnepans. Right now I have settled on Horns/Tubes because I require dynamics and SPL.
@@petersouthernboy6327 you clearly never ever heard a tympani before with 4 subs actively crossed over.. You can keep your scream boxes dude you're clueless 😂
@@MichelLinschoten - Magnepan now makes bass panels because everyone’s cone driven subwoofers just simply couldn’t acoustically align with their electrostatic panels. And if you need *4* subwoofers 😂 - what are you, like 14 years old? What a mess, bro.
Three years later and still nothing. I have been wanting this system after hearing about this from Steve Gutenberg. Alas my patience is waning and I’m going to order a pair of 3.7i (and do a GR crossover mod). If and when these are available I will be probably one of the first customers and sell the 3.7i’s…
The staggering genius of Mr. Diller strikes again! Here we have a high performance, high end and what should be "luxury" brand with the most loyal of fans announcing it's new flagship: ...... but for "condos" and /or "small rooms"?!? If Wendell was hired by Porsche, he would probably trumpet PDK for "traffic jams" and/or "customers who prefer texting and Starbucks to driving". Trying to "trick" your customers in demonstrations is always good business too, as is making sure you don't intimidate anyone by wearing sneakers and sweatpants. This is why audio companies turn $2 MM into $1 MM time and time again.
I think the real problem Magnepan needs to solve is the efficiency. Physics of dipoles aside, I suspect that a lot of efficiency is being left on the table by using relatively weak strip magnets. This of course has a direct impact on cost. My 3.7i need just about every last ounce of 100wpc tube power to sound moderately loud, and in reality could easily use 4-10x that amount of power in order to handle extreme transients.
Cheap drivers like you say, and yes even the ribbon is cheap. $20,000, or even $10,000!!! I don't think so Tim. I've contemplated buying two pairs (stacked) of there LRS and crossing them to Open baffle woofers. No rocket science. If they try $10,000, it will be a failure. So you can relay these thoughts to them seeing they are looking for feedback. They just need to sell a pair of there drivers in frames that cover the spectrum from 150hz up. Sell them. If they want to also sell a little column of twelve 6" woofer than fine, sell them as well as an add on for all there speakers. Ron
It seems “mini” 30.7 is still the same dimensions and size as the 30.7. So what’s compact about it? An impractical size for condos unless one is in a 1500+ square foot apartment with a giant living room. I suppose MagnePan is looking at condos in small town America, not the big cities like New York or Toronto..
Very difficult to listen to people just talk fro close to a half hour. You need to show the speakers, play them, show diagrams...something other than just talking. Please take this as constructive criticism.
i would really love to hear these new maggies. one of the things i would hope for is less use of the phrase BLOWN AWAY and MIND BLOWING. i get the picture but too many people and reviews make this catch-phrase comment. it takes the individuality out of the review. ...hifitommy
I still remember being BLOWN AWAY on my first listen. These speakers are MIND BLOWING and MINT! I am only SELLING them to get the newer version! Smoke and pet free home - 'NUFF SAID.

Really looking forward to hearing more about this product
The sound quality was amazing! Someone told me the retail price could be CAD15000! But the Japanese drum sounds so real.
Adrian and guys, have you heard any news on the progress of these speakers? Thanks!
Imagine playing this video through the magnepans. Amazing.
Magnepan is not known fr using the best parts in their XOs, so that's an area that MIGHT lend itself to improvement
They have always made them attainable for nearly everyone. That's the huge upside, but comes with obvious downsides. DSP is changing everything.
Jay - Wow, what incredible tracks, Electrified and Jean Pierre - fantastic!
I assume the feedback was highly positive. So when will the Mini 30.7 (also called the 30.7 For Condos) be launched?
I wished I lived in Toronto!
Did they make it?
must be an amazing speaker concept
I like your passion, subscribed!

...compared to the .7's with the Bass Panel?
I have the Mag 2.7 from 1994 I love them will the LRS sound better? Iam using a peach tree 300

Just curious..
Are these new speaker prototypes true dipoles, with more or less equal sound coming out front and rear?
Adrian Low thanks...so...
Would they work placed between my living room and dining room as room dividers providing sound for each room.

Great piece. Thnx! Could such woofers be added to de LRSs? Go to for woofer design help? Thnx again!
The first few words of this video popped my bubble... "They're not for sale"
I may be wrong but I think the market for a new 2.7 would be a lot greater than a "smaller" version of a Huge speaker...GIVE US A 2.7 PLEASE!

Aren't all the panels with the different model of Magnepan the same? or I m incorrect.

Steve Guttenberg is guessing the price is $4000-$6000 is this correct?
@@adrianlow2114 As in that's too high or too low?
Now build the woofer for the LRS and they could take over the HI FI world
Any new information on these speakers?
Sounds like a speaker to save up for... But why 4 sets of woofers?
Hope u guys will b posting the video on the audition.
If this for condos. The neighbors wont appreciate that bass! Lol

can you guys use Mister Diller or at least Mister Wendell? Please!
Does it use a true ribbon like the 20.7/30.7?

That's useless also they don't have it there, it's a prototype
Planars only work in a large room, and are non starters for most people...
