It was originally sung by Little Willie John and many people have covered the song, including Elvis, Madonna, Beyonce, and Christina Aguilera. However, Peggie Lee's rendition is the best known.

Sometimes less is more. That is what she accomplished in this song. Everything was kept in the pocket, the focus was her and the band was there just to accompany her. Top tier Classic. Thank you for doing this reaction.

    From Wikipedia:
In 1957, Lee recorded a popular version of "Fever" by Little Willie John, written by Eddie Cooley and John Davenport,[16] to which she added her uncopyrighted lyrics ("Romeo loved Juliet", "Captain Smith and Pocahontas").
    About the song "Fever":
"Fever" is a song written by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell, who used the pseudonym John Davenport. It was originally recorded by American R&B singer Little Willie John for his debut album, Fever (1956), and released as a single in April of the same year. The song managed to top the Billboard R&B Best Sellers in the US and peak at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100.[1] It was received positively by music critics and included on several lists of the best songs during the time it was released.
It has been covered by numerous artists from various musical genres, most notably by Peggy Lee, whose 1958 rendition became the most widely known version of "Fever" and the singer's signature song. Lee's version contained rewritten lyrics different from the original and an altered music arrangement. It became a top-five hit on the music charts in the UK and Australia in addition to entering the top ten in the US and the Netherlands. "Fever" was nominated in three categories at the 1st Annual Grammy Awards in 1959, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Other notable cover versions of "Fever" include those by Elvis Presley, Boney M., Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Michael Bublé, The McCoys, La Lupe and Beyoncé. Madonna released it as a single from her fifth studio album Erotica (1992) in March 1993 through Warner Bros. It topped the charts in Finland and the Hot Dance Club Songs in the US in addition to charting in the top 50 in many other countries.

Thanks for this video. Gotta luv Peggy :) One of my favorite clips of Peggy (on RUclips) is of her singing the Ray Charles' song, "Yes Indeed" to the soldiers in the hospital.

This is the original singer of the song beautiful sunshine! I know you're thinking of either the Madonna version or the Beyonce version. I know Beyonce did the song on the Fighting Tempations movie and Madonna did the version back in 1992 on her Erotica album.

I have always been fascinated that a voice (Peggy Lee) and two instruments (a double bass and a drums) are enough to make an exceptional song. I don't know of any cover as perfect as the original version of this song by Peggy Lee.

Peggy Lee was not only the original she was one of the writers. The call is a standard. Hundreds have sung it.

Back in the 50's they called this kind of music a "torch song", both for the mood it creates and the subject matter. You've done Ella's version, now try Julie London's version of "Cry Me A River" and Tom Jones' cover of "I Who Have Nothing" for more "torch" songs...and no, this song was recorded by African-American R&B artist Little Willie John first.

I'm pretty sure this song would not have enjoyed the fame it has now
without PeggyLees version.Otis Blackwell a co writer also wrote 3 or for of Elvis's major hits.He later appeared on the Letterman show if you look it up it will become obvious how much of Elvis's vocal styling he got from Otis
Blackwell as well as three or four major hits.I believe that the late Rob Wasserman played upright on at least one version of that cut as well as Take a Walk On the Wild Side.

You need to listen to the original my the late great Little Willie John. It seems we as a people always listen to the covers of our great artist instead of the originals. This is back in the day of what they called race records and black records were re recorded for whites and the black version forgotten.
