Love that Brian also doesn't shy away from inviting a big pool of strongman, versus just 10
Thor: Shaw Classic seems cool but I don't want to chest press cause of my pec-tear
Brian: Say no more!
I want to see Thor here so badly!
With 10 weeks between Shaw classic and the Rogue invitational it just may happen
The other thing about 8 events is that it gives you time to catch up if you have one bad event. Trey won the competition twice with a weak (compared to elite level strongmen) grip. Mateusz can win if he finishes near the bottom on the deadlift. Speaking of Trey, he'll be far enough out from his achilles injury that I suspect he'll want to do this comp. With no yoke or truck pull that would really test his achilles, I think he'd be fine. It should be an insanely competitive comp if everyone turns up healthy; I'm exicted to see it.
Perfect set of events to determine the strongest man there
Except the even where you can choose what weight to use. Is somebody who lifts the heavy weight for 1 rep stronger than the athlete who lifts the lighter weight many many more times & gets more points doing so?!
@@tesstickle1963 Yes, that's always the case. Heaviest stone always beats the lighter, no matter how many reps are done.
@@Adam-gn5kh so my argument is adam why is there a lighter stone option if the event is for reps? If some athletes are going to struggle to get 1 rep then surely the weight is too high? I dont get why they dont have a weight everybody can lift & then its most reps win
@tesstickle1963 Because fans want to see massive weights lifted. If you aren't capable of the heaviest stone then fine, go for the lighter one. There will be multiple guys on it and trying to beat each other for reps. They've done this for years on the log at the ASC and Brian did it on the log at SC last couple of years. It's a normal thing in strongman. Its also stops loads of guys equalling on reps and having to share points. That will still happen, but not to the same degree as if they used one weight. The event I suppose is classed as a rep event but the heaviest stone should win and rightly so. You rep it to beat somebody who can do the same stone but the event isn't specific to a rep event as we normally see.
@@Adam-gn5kh is it not timed? That would stop athletes being on same rep points if tied.
I get it for fans, but this fan doesn’t like it. Lol. Also, its a strong man event, its not a specific championship event so fans need to realise they cant expect world record lifts all the time & then the athlete still be on top of their game in all events. I just hope this format doesn’t make it to WSM. Anyways, hope your well Adam
Great events for Tom & Hafthor if he does it.
Here’s a fact. Regardless if you love or hate the name of this competition, if you continue to have elite strongman athletes saying the comp is too heavy to commit to it you’re going to have a legitimate argument for the title you win.
Bingo
That's an awesome point
Good thought.
If so Brian’s contest is true WSM
@@AlejandroSanchez-pl6jw he’s got a case for it on athlete testimony alone
I love the shaw classic and even magnuss one. Heavy weight, alot of events and just pure strongman insanity
Brian said that the order in which he stated the events in his video is not nesecerialy what will be the order on the day. Apart from starting with the deadlift and finishing with the fingals into stairs.
Brian should have a stone over 286kg, just so someone can have a chance to break the world record. I know it's the 4th event and after max deadlift, so probably unlikely, but it would be cool.
Was thinking the same thing, or a record breakers day after
The Shaw Classic/Strongest Man on Earth has quickly become my favourite competition. I can't wait to see these events, especially the deadlift! 👀
In my opinion, the Arnold and the Shaw Classic are in contention for the pinnacle of strongman. Both in terms of the competition and the fan experience.
A great lineup of events and having a heavy show to me is better than shows that are lighter and more about being athletic. Hopefully he can get a good line up of guys and everyone is healthy
I love that Brians events are heavy. It feels like it's really emphasizing on being the strongest, which really lives up to the name of strong man competitions. Not just who can move the most dynamically with a lighter weight everyone can get up.
exactly!
Strength endurance is a big component of strength though. This isn't powerlifting
@@Joe-wt6eh I didn't mention anything about endurance. I mentioned dynamic movement, IE agility. Endurance is still very much in brians heavy contest in the form of weight jump management between max weight lifts, and for rep events.
@braddorcas9363 your comment 'just who can move the most dynamically with a lighter weight everyone can get up' is not true for any of the big competitions. It's not much agility required as you imply, it's simply about moving weight from a 2 b. Moving with heavy weight is just as big an indicator of strength as lifting maximal weight statically. They're not light loads in any case. Balance of events is key and Brian's gone slightly too far in the static direction as that suits his personal abilities and brand
It always amazes me how quickly the Shaw Classic/Strongest Man on Earth became/has become one of the major events of the year, and is one of the most respected competitions and titles.
And it all make so much sense for it to too. Brian being - until last year - an athlete himself, he knows how to treat athletes. He also clearly very well understands how to make events exciting and fun for both crowd and athletes. The leg press is a good example -he know the crazy numbers these guys can press, and found a thing that's that kind of weight... and it's a car. and not even a small car. The athletes must feel like Superman repping a car, and it looks amazing for the crowd and viewers. Actually really good seeing how the major shows/competitions do build cool kit instead of trying to go to standardised equipment. Like, if someone might want to go for a record on an event... sure, maybe use standardised equipment - whether it's deadlift, frame carry, dinnies, whatever... but if no-one wants to, or none at that event are going to be at record levels on that event... make it fun. Swap the plates for rocks, or have motorbikes on the yoke or have engines being lifted to platforms instead of stones... or press a midsized SUV.
All of which to say... clearly Brian gets that and isn't afraid to put money into that awesome equipment.
Also, made me think, talking about Martins... I'd love to see him to the MVM Classic. He'd love it, surely? Could practically qualify for a Strength Unknown episode (barring that it's not that unknown, of course. But neither's Sumo.)
With no benchpress I think for sure Thor will accept Brian’s invite, really looking forward to it…
Am sure brian did say he was going to the bench press from last year with modifications but might have to rewatch it
@@Goldienoir*Does the Arnold's Wich have more brutal events.
Seriously, what's with people calling Shaw's heavier? No history of the sport whatsoever.
Thor will never compete at Shaw's competition, no disrespect, but it is still considered as a village competition and people compete there only for the money, not for the title, and Thor doesn't care about money. No top strongmen prepared for Brian Shaw's comp last year, they just went there to compete and get the money, because Shaw pays to everyone, even if you get last place.
@@peeterl.2016 Then why would Thor compete in an Arnold's UK? That's even more of a "village competition". And Shaw Classic is really not a village competition. It's quickly growing in popularity and why wouldn't it? First you have a legendary Strongman hosting it and not just rich men who sit back and don't know jack about the sport and just host the competition to line their pockets. Not giving two fucks about the competitors or the fans alike. Second, you have a competition structure and events that fans and competitors alike have been begging other shows for but never got. Groups in WSM is a joke, as well as the same recycled events that people want changed but never does, while also not even live streaming the show for the fans. WSM is an embarrassment and the only thing going for them is their legacy but they will be outdated soon enough. They are like the blockbusters of Strongman. 8 events should be a standard in every Strongman show, Arnold's never delivered in that aspect and a lot bigger lineup as well so a much more varied field. So what if it is a "village competition". What matters is the competition and who is there. It would be like Bill Kasmier winning in WSM before anyone even cared about it. People still remember his titles even though half the people he was competing against weren't even Strongmen. Why would it not be the same with Shaw Classic? And unlike the Bill Kasmier example, you do actually have most of the best Strongmen turning up.
Ive been a massive fan of the ASC for years but ill be honest, they can't really call themselves the heaviest show anymore. Not when the SC has more events, many heavy events and multiple max lifts. The ASC bringing it down to 5 events the last couple of years is a big thing. If you want to find the strongest man, it has to be 6 events minimum. I'm still ridiculously excited for the ASC, but they need to take a look and rethink some things.
Yeah and more competitors
The Arnolds´are still the heaviest. If we are to call weights+events+number of athletes then nothing beats fortissimus, wich was like two shaw classics together.
No, Arnolds´are the heaviest because the weights are heavier and the events are more brutal, they narrow it to 5 or 6 because since its´ conception Terry Todd knew that with that kind of events doing 8 of them like wsm (or shaw now) did would be just too much and we wouldn´t see the best perfomances ever.
Bare in mind the Arnold´s also got nerfed due to the ridiculous weights they where carrying, Austrian Oak was 205KG, the Axel got to 212KG for pressing one year (and other one they had to only do the clean) to a point where only Zydrunas was able to do the reps, hence Brian´s words "The Arnolds´are rigged for Zydrunas" in a very serious tone. The Bale tot got to 740KG!!!. Now everybody loves the hummer tire in the shaw classic, but originally was at the Arnold´s that the event happend and only one year, 2021, of shaw´s was on par with the Arnold´s perfomances, and ofc, Novikov´s record.
I know the Shaw classic is new, exciting and the best alternative to asc and wsm right now, but is its own thing, definetly heavier than wsm but the amount of events just won´t let the atlethes get at their best for the last event, also, with the exception of the deadlift, those events don´ttae the same toll on the body as the arnolds´.
Point is, Arnold´s are heavier.
@antoniocenteno1483 Except it isn't l, the ASC used to be heavier. All the examples you used to show how heavy it is are gone. Look at the events side by side and weights and the Shaw Classic is a heavier, more taxing show. Multiple competitors have said this. I think their opinions mean more than ours given they compete there and we just watch these shows.😂
@@antoniocenteno1483 holy shit i gave up reading your text half way thru trying to understand it
Pumping out the videos at lightning speed. We like it! Get starting on that Arnold's predictions (which is impossible, but have a go lol)!
so theres a max elephant bar deadlift in arnolds -- be no doubt a deadlift for reps in wsm -- max deadlift in shaw classic - max deadlift in las vegas -- and if rouge keep their 900lb for reps on their platform event ---- going to be one tough year for deadlifting --- hope all the guys are training it hard --- going to be awesome
Gonna be a great year for deadlift*
Remember when Hafthor was prepping for the 2020 Arnold’s and lifted 480 kg raw, easily? The goal was 501 raw in Elephant Bar, but then he decided to go light with an easy win, and left the 501 for World’s Deadlift Competition (which then had to be done privately, in a WUS event).
The point is, Hafthör was more than capable on breaking the world record even without a suit. I’d love to see it happen at this competition.
@@GoldienoirI think he would get a hell of a lot closer than anybody else without one.
@@Goldienoir Bro, is Thor, Thor barely gets as much advantage of a suit as... say Eddie Hall or Ivan Makarov, he even did the record in single ply and injured. Though his best perfomance would be on a suit is safe to bet if Thor goes to the same limits Eddie Hall did for the 500KG he would get the record with no suit, His 480 raw looked ridiculously easy and he was not at peak strength
@@antoniocenteno1483 speculation. The reason comps are done is to put the lifts on paper. Until it’s on the books, gym lifts and projections don’t mean anything.
Actually he attempted 501 on the elephant bar and failed it
@mustang8206 He's not even talking about 2019. He's talking about 2020 at the Arnolds two months before Thor pulled 501kg with a suit. He pulled a comfortable 480kg without a suit in training.
I love Brian for ensuring that The Strongest Man on Earth actually tests who the strongest is. Way too many CrossFit comps and not just for super heavyweights. The lighter weight classes also have too many CrossFit comps
The chest press might be for Thor... but remember the equipment jam and timing issues with it last time.
and brian himself got injured on it
Also it's very normal to have completely different lifts from year to year
Hopefully, I will actually make it to Myrtle Beach this year for WSM. Much love from North Carolina USA
These events are going to be awesome
I'm missing a grip event and a carrying event. Maybe this will be in the power medley.
ATP classic did trump stones first
Was very exciting to hear Brian picked the same event we did ❤️
Great event selected by brian, proper strongman events about strength rather than endurance or mobility.
Typically I'm not a fan of an event being pulled or removed to attract a particular athlete, but as neat as the bench press is sometimes, it's usually not the most fun to watch, and I'd much rather have a bench press event removed if it means Thor can compete. It's not like an overhead press or a deadlift or the stones were removed.
Fuck a deadlift suit
I think this style of competition does a great job at telling us who is actually the strongest all around. I don't mind how the WSM does it, but I wouldn't say that it does a good job of finding the absolute strongest.
I like how WSM covers the different kinds of strength but I prefer how the Shaw classic does it. Roughly the same format as wsm only heavier which imo is a more credible test to see who really is the worlds strongest man/strongest man on earth
Comp of the year once again, can't wait for the show Brian will put on
Fantastic set of events to test every facet of strength. My fingers and toes are all crossed that Brian snags Thor!
Brian has narrowed it down to pure strength, absolutely love his selection. The Shaw Classic will be a hell of a benchmark for WSM, or at least what it should be.
Love how it truly finds the strongest man on earth versus "the fittest big man on earth" like wsm has become with so many endurance events versus pure strength events
In Brian's video, he did say the events aren't in an organised order yet other then the deadlift first and the power stairs last I believe. Everything else is still to be worked out he said
I really liked the keg loaded squat set up from old wsm, 600-1000lb would be a great set up.
Excited for that overhead medley!
Brian's criticism of the way Giants Live and WSM chooses events and how they run the events came out strongly in this video. I think he made a couple of subtle digs. Giants Live always chasing the 505 have made the deadlift world championships boring. Athletes not wanting to go for 505 should be able to push their own PBs would have made the DL championships way more interesting. To see everyone fail 505 year after year is becoming old. I want to see a couple of guys battle it out in the 480-490kg bracket.
I think Martins would do well at the heavy stones, too. He has good technique and improved it when he was in Basque.
Truly the best comp to determine the true best, wish the boys prepped for it as such as wsm or asc
Sounds like Fortissimus. Overhead medley has a Cyr bb. Sigmarson log. Kaz log. Apllons axel. 2 150lb Cyr db.
Then db medley up to 220 all Cyr db
The sand bag or keg for height would be neat if they could pick their starting height. Like picking weights on deadlift. Hopefully Thor will go to Shaw classic. I think his placement at Arnold's will have a lot to do with it.
There are some great events for Hafthor in this comp
I lift more with reg straps than I can with figure 8, only reason I use figure 8s over straps is how much time I save setting up.
just subscribed! you guys are great
As a Strength Fan, It awesome seeing the scene develop it own Grand Slam of Titles. Imagine if someone like Mitch Hopper won the Arnolds, Rouge, Shaw Classic & Worlds in 1 year.
WSM is kind of a joke these days
I would love to see a SSB squat judged to powerlifting depth
Can we all agree The Shaw Classic (strongest man on earth, choose the name), is passing wsm as a better comp?. Nowdays the fight really is between the Arnold´s and Shaw´s
WSM is the oldest strongman comp there is and is watched by 200 million people. These other comps are great for hardcore fans but they simply don't compare.
@@TL13579 WSM is a joke of a comp and only the biggest as far as casuals
Where can I find one of those Grip Reaper shirts? Love that design.
Loz. How do you think the guys that you train will do?
I hate it when competition s are said to be too heavy as it makes a joke of what strongman or woman train for
The events are cool, except where are the carrying events? Farmers, yoke, Front carry? Does it really need a deadlift AND squat?
The power medley will have movement most like. The fingers is sort of moving with weight.
Is there any chance of multiple reps with a 273kg stone? The winner might just be the guy who does it once. Either way, looks like Brian's trying to live up to the label he's put on his show. Should be awesome.
Brian didn't say it was in the order that he listed them off as. Just that the deadlift will be the first event
Awesome events, really excited
I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Fortissimus to watch it. 10 gruelling events.
I’d love to see Martins Lucius in this event
There should be atleast two attempts per throw in the keg toss.
Thor commented on Brian Shaws video about the events, something about being interested and Shaw replied welcome
I was waiting on this one
The events sound fantastic. I’m really looking forward to it. Still not a fan of what he’s done with the name though.
I hope Thor does the show
My only issue is with the max height throwing event. Throwing is weird because IMO you're usually throwing for max height regardless of where the bar is so having it rise between attempts doesn't exactly mean folks will throw higher. I think in a perfect world there would be some sort of laser or motion detector that could measure the height of any throw, give folks 3 attempts to get as high as possible, and take their max height from there.
Brian puts a great comp always will brian be comping at his own show looks great.
We can finally end the argument on whether if elephant bar is harder or easier than a regular deadlift bar. Both events will be no suit, no Figure 8 straps and the first event in the competition!
Not necessarily tbh...there are more events at the Shaw Classic & there is a squat event which will mean people have to peak for a max squat & a max deadlift - much harder than just peaking for one or the other
@@hg_10sm68 I think squat is a rep event, and having a big squat always help with the deadlift. But I see your point. We will never be able to eliminate differences across all the variables. This is probably as close as it can get.
Loz with all the strongman events we have now with Brian’s saying the heaviest competition and Arnold’s and rouges to mention a few dose wsm still hold it’s weight as the #1 competition?
Taking away the suit will show who has the biggest guts.
Very hyped by this competition.
How many shows is too many? Does it depend on the athlete?
I’ m still waiting for the Oberst Classic 🥲
Would one of the events be "Claim you'll take back the American Log Press Record but never do it" for reps?
@@tayloriousmaximus"Claim deadlift is a pointless exercise for non strongmen while having the worst deadlift at WSM" would also be a great event
Drink a keg for time
Loudest burp
Your wife has to put together a rogue monster rack
Merican Log press
and events will go on and on until everyone fails and there are no winners, in honor of Oberst's career.
Thor actually mentioned in his last video that Brian has invited him and from the sounds of it he accepted.
he said in his last video , it depended on how his body felt after the arnolds, hes trying to be cautious with injuries
Love the mug Liz haha
Been waiting for this one
Keg toss sounds like the 56 for height just with a keg
If he can get an athlete lineup anything like the Arnold's, this will be the greatest comp of the year. The events sound better than ever before.
Brian is the #1 strongman promoter... someone else is #2. It's in Colorado, but he'll Make Altitude Great Again!
Remember couple yrs who deadlift at rogue. No suit JF Caron destroyed everyone
Exciting news 🎉
How would you guys rank the top 10 competitions?
WSM
Arnold's
Shaw
Rogue
etc
Shaw's competition is not even top 5. The reality is, last year only Trey and Brian himself prepared specifically for Shaw Classic, everyone else took this competition as a training session, where you get paid. Shaw Classic has a long way to go until people will want to compete there for the title.
@@peeterl.2016 which 5 (plus?) are in front of it?
Novikov's fingers will be damn near straight in the deadlift.
Arnold's is always number 1.

gonna be awesome
Let’s go 🔥
i love you guys❤❤❤
06:00 hope they do it like the high jump. They all do 1 hight and then move to the next hight. Can't make it, your out. Last man standing.

Why are straps allowed in a raw deadlift?
They don't want it to be a test of grip strength.
Why? @@crazy10bears
Not good events for Mitch. Not good at throwing for height.
Awesome
Brian’s show is forcing the other shows to step up their game. Since he took down the Arnold poster, he’s been planning to make waves as a promoter.

Immediately going off on a tangent, non strongman fans must be confused as to who is actually the strongest strongman of a given year. Is it the winner of; Worlds strongest man, the strongest man on Earth, the Arnold’s, the Giants Live series, Rogues…I think each competition should award points to competitors and at the end of the season the leader is officially crowned Worlds Strongest. Anyway, I love the events Brian’s putting on.
That's if you could get the egos out of the upper brass in these competitions.
Agreed. It must be confusing to non fans that don't know that things like "World's Strongest Man " and "Strongest Man on Earth" are just trademarked titles belonging to the first company to register it. There really isn't a true way to know who is ACTUALLY the Strongest because of scheduling and athletes choosing to enter some competitions and not others. The only way to know for sure would be if all the same athletes do ALL the competitions in a given year, the actual Strongest Man in the world would be the one who did the best overall... unfortunately, that'll never happen.
Just replace WSM with Strongest Man on Earth. WSM has been failing strongman fans and with Brian I know strongman will grow and be in good hands.
If nothing else this might force WSM to get their act together
Would love to see Tom V Thor on the stones, love Tom but i think Thor would win.
Im glad Brian did away with the gym lifts. They have no place in a strongman comp. I find it curious that Martins can come up with excuse after excuse to not compete at the Shaw Classic. There was talk of Brian and him having some bad blood between them (supposedly Brian ignored Martins previously). I think this lends credence to that idea, and if its true, I would respect Martins a lot more if he came out and said that he just doesnt want to compete at the sc.
@@GoldienoirSure, I have also heard that before. That is a valid excuse, but then he should say it consistently. The latest I have heard from Martins is that he has plans to travel around that time..
Thank f*ck that Brian has done away with suits and - the worst piece of kit of all - FIGURE 8 STRAPS. Absolutely nonsense piece of equipment and the sooner they're done away with across the board, the better.
Heavy weights and many events will weed the weak from the strong! Viva la Shaw Classic!
It is important that Hafthor goes to this competition since he’s a big draw, now that the biggest draw of this comp, Brian, is now retired
I think the fact it’s Brian’s show will still have a pull without him competing
@25michael17 Yes obviously as its improved year on year. But having Thor there would add a lot.
