You haven't tasted water unless you have tasted it in Norway. Especially outside of the inner city areas, the tap water is so cold and clean, fresh from the mountain. The expensive ''VOSS'' water from Norway is basicly equal to normal tap water here. People saying water is water, haven't really tasted good water, and people in Norway saying water is water, just lack perspective of their own, vs water you get in another country.
Absolutely! 100% agree! When I go back to England no bottled water tests as good as Norwegian tap water anymore. You spoiled me here with such a high quality of life.

In the mid seventies I was told that Norway was the best land to live in, everyone is so friendly, great standard of living, free health care, beautiful people and almost no crime, blah, blah.
I flew over from the UK one hot summer in 1974 to take a look and see what the big deal is.
Never went back.
When I go back to the UK to visit friends & family, after a few days I get homesick for Norway - I don't feel safe when I'm out the country.

Eventually became the CruiseManager of a Norwegian cruiseliner (Color Line), but now retired.
Now my hobbies are skydiving, Formuler One racing and lying about my hobbies :-)

Most Scandinavians speak excellent English. Some of the best English speakers for non-native speakers. Also films aren't dubbed and as you mentioned English is learned from a young age.

I watch a lot of your travelling videos, I am surprised that finally you decided to settle in Norway out of all the beautiful countries that you have travelled to.
Norway's official and main language is Norwegian. But, yes most Norwegians can speak English. It also has to do with the fact that most English TV series and Movies have Norwegian subtitles rather than being dubbed into Norwegian language. The only thing that is being dubbed into Norwegian from English are typical childrens things, such as Disney etc.
This is a very good point! Exactly, being an expat in Norway I can watch local tv and even choose the English I prefer today - American or British 😁 actually I’m also reading Norwegian subtitles- it’s such a good way to learn and practice the language even at home.
I totally agree that it’s such a great idea to translate children’s programs into Norwegian. They have to master their own language first and then become fluent in English too 😁

2:23 I learned A LOT of English by playing computer games in my youth, and I'm 47 years old now 😊 But yes, very few games have been translated to Norwegian, and the few that are translated is usually only the text (and subtitles), so kids will learn from them anyway 😊

We don't build tunnels, we just remove rock to create a hole through the mountain. Norway's bedrock is mostly very hard so engineers use dynamite and often there is no need for any metal or concrete support.

Fresh air, regular outdoor exercising, usually healthy diet and strong genetic did the job very well!
Life in Norway is good, some sour apples there is compared to other places but all in all, it is pretty good, saying that as a Norwegian, but seen a lot of the world both in a good way and a bad way, I think it depends on the person who wants to live here since we share the benefits in a way that works for all of us in one way or the other
Exactly, there are some pros and cons in every single place. It can’t be 100% perfect, but it can be just right for you 🙂
Balance is the key. In every aspect of life
We have all of those things in Alaska too.
About the language. Here in Greece we follow them same system for English in our education system but the results are not the same.
We also love the western pop culture, we don't have audio translated movies but also these don't help enought.
So we go to private English schools in order to get a certificate for our skills and in that case if you don't use the language then you have to cry for the money you spent in the past to learn English.

Well.. I can’t say I discovered them here .. but I wasn’t a big fan of them in London 😉 but they do work really nice with Norwegian salmon!
By the way, did you know that Norwegian salmon is very different from Scottish one? 😉
@@AnnaGoldmanTravel Well i fish for Wild salmon in Norway every summer in many rivers. And wild Salmon is so much better then farmed. But that there is difference between Scotish and Norwegian salmon "Farmed i presume" that, i didn't know.

@@AnnaGoldmanTravel Around 450 rivers with Salmon in Norway, i think 340 was in 2020 open for fishing. practically every county with a coast line have a river big ore small. Now when it comes to fishing salmon in fresh water there are seasons and times when it is allowed to fish. it varies a bit but its normally from 1 of July to end of August. The best place well that's hard to say, some years the fishing is best in the north and next year it might be in the south. There are certainly some good rivers around Trondheim. Everyone speaks English, but for a license to practice my job it's not enough :( I would love to move there! BTW I've used to drink tap water in Italy too, and I do it in Germany as well
Well.. if it’s for work it’s definitely better to study and speak Norwegian then 😉 also if you want to move to Norway for settlement - no way with no local language, as in any other country.
Tap water in Norway has a great taste! I traveled around more than 60 countries. Never had tastier water than here 🙂 you should try it yourself when you are next time in Norway, Silvia 😉

That's mostly true for older people. We old folks (according to my children, I'm old) didn't start learning English in school until the 4th grade. And we had only two or three TV channels, none of which were in English besides some occasional British shows. That has changed over the years due to both more TV channels in English and also English in school from an early age. So most young Norwegians today do speak English very well.

English is widely spoken in Norway due to its strong connection to the American culture in general, but mostly because nothing on TV is dubbed. Everything is in its original spoken language with Norwegian subs. I might be wrong, but I would guess that more than half of every movie or TV show is American. Then there is obviously also quite a lot of Norwegian movies and TV shows. The rest is either Swedish, British or Danish.

I must admit that I was very weak in English at school, in fact I hated school. But because of all the English programs on TV, I have gotten better, since everything that is said is translated. SO today I'm better than my roommate at speaking English, but she's much better at writing English! Here I use Google translate, SORRY !

That looks like pretty upper strata accommodations even for Norwegian standards. Most here in Norway live more modestly.

Its sound more than wonderfull, but i have a question. Can i live and work in norway with no driving licence? What about the public bus transport? can i work in or near oslo and live outside like 1 or 2 hours away without a driving licence or do you have to get a driving license?
depends on what you`r work is, but if its an office job in Oslo or area around i would say the public transport system is pretty good, bus, trains and trams.
Well, it is a very good question actually! Norwegians love driving and every household here has at least 1 car. As the saying goes: "A simple way to shock a Norwegian is to tell him that you don't have a driving licence".
I would say you will be fine without it working and living in Oslo but when it comes to the weekend and you want to go somewhere to discover this gorgeous country - it might be an issue. As I don't think that you can get to endless hiking routs in Norway by using public transport only.
To get a driving license in Norway is extremely expensive. I would advise coming here having your driving license with you already. If it is a European one you will not have an issue driving here.
The public transport in Oslo and to and from Oslo is very good and usually much better and faster than driving your car when you go to and from work.
The rush hours can be a pain if you use your car.
Not having a driving license is no problem at all when it comes to working in Oslo or the areas close to Oslo, unless you want to be a bus or taxi driver of course ;)
But as Anna says, it can make it a bit more difficult to travel to all the great places you want to visit when you are not working.
But it is not impossible when it comes to most places if you plan properly before you start.
There are many great places you can travel to with trains or busses from the Oslo area.
It might take some more time than when driving there, but at least you can relax and enjoy the scenery while travelling :)
And if you like to be outdoors, there are lots of options close to Oslo all year and no need to travel far, unless you want to see or experience something special.
Some parts of Norway have bad ways to travel in!

South of Norway, around 1.5 hours drive from Oslo.

I’m only temporary in Norway 🙂 I came for work and as soon as the company I work for is satisfied with the result achieved - I’ll move back to England. Or to another country 😁

Depends on how fast you want to learn and what’s the most pleasant way to learn a new language you choose:
- library
- books / self studying
- online course / group or individual
- language school nearby

Yes, finn.no is the best hub for... pretty much everything. But be warned, housing is crazy expensive in Norway, especially centrally in Oslo and the big cities. You can find good bargains on rentals in Oslo if you're lucky, but if you want to buy you better start saving...
It very much depends on where you want to live and/or work. For example, renting/buying something in the centre of Oslo can be more expensive per m2 than in Tokyo.... 😬 but buying and living in the west or north of the country is cheaper. As several others have mentioned, Finn.no is a good place to star, both for buying and renting.
Also keep in mind that while living close to a possible future job can be preferable, many of the cities has ok to excellent public transportation from the suburbs and adjacent smaller villages/cities (Bergen and Oslo have very good public transportation, while for example Stavanger can do better, but it is nor bad either), so you really don't have to immediately plan for buying a car
@@theuniversewithin74 Not the one you replied to, but wanted to say thanks for the finn.no website. Prices look pretty good to me, but I'm comparing to western washington housing prices. On that finn.no website I found a 229m(2) house for 2.7mil kr which is equivalent to about 143$/sqft USD. My current home here in western washington (USA) is worth about $255/sqft (or 5mil kr) and the house in norway was almost 200sqft bigger.
Can you recommend good towns/cities in norway to look at for young families with kids? I work in tech industry and can work remote. My Wife and I have fantasized about moving out of this area as it's getting kind of crazy here! :) Thanks!
@@slandshark you won't find prices like that anywhere even remotely close to Oslo. You have the suburbs around Oslo, but they are almost as expensive. Drøbak is a really nice waterfront village, but on the expensive side, as it's close to Oslo and very popular. Fredrikstad is nice. Porsgrunn, Larvik, Stavern. If you don't care about Oslo, try Bergen or any of the adjacent areas, although it's very rainy. Stavanger is also nice. There's a lot to choose from, but have a look at those to begin with. 😊

@@AnnaGoldmanTravel Since we came to Australia I have only been back once to Sweden and Finland. I prefer Finland. I love the customs, the culture, the people and the nature there. Finns are more friendly than Swedes.

Norway is one of the most tolerant countries in the world. I’ve never seen any gender, religious, national or any other type of discrimination.
If you are honest, positive, easygoing person, you will make friends in any part of this world.
So my answer is no, this is not true. Norwegians are friendly and if you really want to, you can make friends in Norway.

Sadly we have a few racists in Norway, but compared with most countries in the world, you should experience very little racism here.
Most Norwegians can be a bit reserved, but we are not unfriendly at all.
Most Norwegians are also not shallow like many in the US and UK are when it comes to "friendships".
When you get friends here in Norway, you most of the times get proper friends that are warm and helpful.
We don't "hoard" "friends" here in Norway.
We are not friends after 10 minutes of small talk.
If you want to make friends in Norway, you should not "jump" them and act like a salesman trying to sell them a hoover.
Most Norwegians react negatively to people that are pushy and "aggressive" in their approach.
I don't know how you are and what country and culture you come from, but men from some African countries are often way to "aggressive" and show way to little respect when they approach a woman they like here in Norway.
Behaviour like that will quickly make you disliked here in Norway.
Meet people and be calm, warm, respectful and friendly and you will have a good chance to get good Norwegian friends.
And also a girlfriend/wife if you are single.
