@@AnnaGoldmanTravel My middle daughter worked at their warehouse just outside of Seattle. She quit after 3 months because they don’t let the warehouse workers go to the bathroom except on their 30 minute meal break. Labor law says they must on their 10 minute breaks, but the only bathrooms are by the front door on the other side of the metal detector security checkpoint and it takes 5 minutes just to get there from inside the warehouse area. She said she couldn’t take watching adults having to toilet themselves on the job anymore. So while it may be convenient for customers, they’re funding employee abuse at the warehouses. My new sister in law was working as online order processor at the Whole Foods store when she first moved here last year. She’s gotten the same position at Walmart now and is just raving about how respectful Walmart is to their employees, compared to Amazon. WALMART. 😕😳
We have the same level of corruption here as in USA. The city of Oslo are spewing their woke, multicultural, environmental, globalist and feminist agenda across the land.
@@schoolingdiana9086 That's more of an issue with the USA's lack of worker rights. I believe the reason Amazon does not operate in Norway is because they wouldn't be able to pull off 90% of the crap they can do in the USA.
I'm a British guy who moved to Norway last year. I agree with all your points. My neighbour leaves his garage open when he goes out, full of tools and equipment. The safety and level of trust people have in each other here is incredible. As for swimming in the sea, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm in northern Norway, and recently took a quick swim in the sea on a beach on the beautiful Senja island. It wasn't exactly warm, but not uncomfortably cold either.
Senja was a very large island with just a handful of fisherman's settlements on the sea-facing side when I lived in Finnsnes for a month, back in '99 but beautiful nonetheless. There was a great pub, called Otto's I think, in town. Is it still there I wonder?
I think one of the main issues with things like Uber and Amazon in Norway is to fit into our welfare models. To have the high level of welfare we depend on all businesses contributing to this. So not all international companies are allowed access if they don't take part in paying a certain amount of taxes. Many countries in Europe have problems with their welfare models if American companies replace our own companies, and don't pay taxes. In the US, Amazon is used to being able to negotiate tax breaks that leaves them paying no taxes at all, and with the income level in Norway it may be hard for Amazon to have any warehouse here at all, but I assume that if they planned to come here, they would want to have their warehouse in another country, like Poland, and ship from there to Norway. This question ties into the welfare state and the low crime rate. The model we want to have here ensure help to anybody who needs it, so it is quite hard for any norwegian to justify economic crime, because you can't justify it to yourself as a means for survival. It is then very hard to find much of a network for crime, but of course, there are a few, and some with ties to operation centrals in other countries. It is actually cheaper for a country to provide basics for everybody than to use resources on investigating crimes. So if you want to do business in Norway you have to accept being responsible for society as a whole, and take part in funding our welfare. Otherwise we do much better buying from our own companies, that are integrated with those values. Lke one successful norwegian business leader put it: "taxes are the price of civilization". I am not sure if all norwegians would agree with me with all I am saying here, but I think it is a fairly common norwegian attitude to business. Even our current government, that is quite right wing, state that one of the main task of business is to fund welfare through taxes. Also I know one of the biggest business banks in Norway, DNB, every year send out documents to their corporate customers every year, telling them how much they contributed to the welfare, and giving them examples like "you paid for so many teachers", "you paid for so many doctors", "so many surgeries", "so much roads", etc. They want every company to feel proud about what they contribute and get an idea of how helpful they are by giving examples. Before you take everything I say as true, you should maybe ask more norwegians if what I am saying here is a typical way for norwegians to think about business. Thank you again for a well made video :)
I hope Amazon doesn't come to Norway as it will ruin a lot of businesses and the way people consume and do shopping. It will hurt local businesses just as you mentioned. How can Norwegian government allow this to take part? Unless Amazon pays a lot taxes that it deserves to pay. That will increase the price of goods but also make Amazon less attractive thus saving local businesses. I hope the government will choose wisely and think about it's loyal local contributors.
Well, it's not only the US companies, unfortunately. Ikea for example dodges taxes wherever the company can. Nominal they should pay 40% taxes on their income in Germany (their biggest market), but due to a lot of tricks, it is estimated, that they only pay 5%.
@O R sorry, the level of products in stores is sub par. And the variety, as you said, is not so big. And I wouldn't say welfare and retirement money is so good in Norway. Do you know that the whole culture sector is now on strike in Norway? They are fighting for better pensjon...
@O R Norway has really good social security. Top 10 I would say in Europe. Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Germany are maybe slightly better. I would just like this video is a bit more realistic.
It is when you have to go to seven stores or make seven different orders to accomplish the same bit of shopping. That said, Sweden has Amazon and it is going BADLY. But that mostly due to the postal system. So we order from German Amazon. Just like the Norwegians do.
Norway has always fascinated me . From it's natural beauty to the culture ...I really got to save up and visit 😎 By the way , your videos are great ! Keep up the awesome content 👍
I'm Norwegian and live in the town of Stavanger. If you want to go wind surfing, or even wave surfing, then the large, beautiful beaches south of Stavanger (area is called Jæren, and the beaches Jærstrendene) are perfect for you. Even the crown prince of Norway does his wave surfing there. But yes, bring your wetsuit. Very rarely the water temperature is warm enough so that you can surf in ordinary swimwear.
@@AnnaGoldmanTravel I should be in Oslo in late July/ early august, hopefully we’ll be able to grab something to drink by then ;) I really look forward to it 💗

Nooo Anna! Very unforntunate that I discover your channel after you moved from Norway. A lot of your views are on point, and I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time here. Thank you for being a great ambassador for our country on youtube :-)
Thank you for showcasing Norwegian life, it warms my heart to know that life in the this lush country is so well preserved. I have a chance this summer to visit the Western Fjord region and this video just made me smile. Coming from the United States I am in for a treat. I really wish my dad could join me, but for his health it will be up to me bring to capture and bring home some amazing memories and pictures that only our native land Norway can provide. For advice on travel, in early May, I will traveling from Oslo to Bergen and venturing to a place by the name of Heggjabygda to explore an ancestral farm and town called Heggen. Out of all the videos I have seen on RUclips about Norwegian travels, this one has helped the most. Thank you for this fun video. I am very excited to be my native country soon. Hello Anna! I've been watching your videos for over a year, so I wanted to thank you for the effort you put into sharing your experiences with all of us. Such a great contribution to the world! @Anna Goldman Anna , I was born in Norway , Oslo ( 44yrs ago this January 4th ) . I have been raised in Australia most of my life . I'm on welfare in Australia & on the ( Australian ) NDIS ♿️ . Does Norway have anything similar to Australia's ( or England's 🇬🇧 ) NDIS government scheme for socially isolated disabled people ? - i NEVER wanted to rely on ANY government charity to live anywhere in the world . What's the situation like with dating in Norway for #LGBTQI 🏳️🌈 ? What's the rate in Norway of kids living on the streets ( homeless ) due to being disowned by their parents cos of their sexuality/illicit drug use ? Are their any homeless shelters in Norway for those kids ? ( i used to live in a homeless shelter for abandoned teens , when Mum and I were going through a tough time during my puberty development ) . ♑️✍️😮💨🇦🇺🇳🇴
As a truck driver I wouldn't agree that Norway had or has had world's safest roads, especially tunnels. A good example is the E6 which is the main road(where tooths are falling off when you hit a hole). I would say that is one of the most dangerous ones, especially in winter. Except if you travel Oslo-Kristiansand or Oslo-Goteborg or near by Oslo. Agree about the nature and wildlife, simply beautiful.
Very good point, thank you Dejan 🤗🤗 I remember the tunnels in Lofoten - like literally the Arctic Circle- the way those tunnels made! I was pleasantly shocked 😁 Infrastructure is really good in Norway, no doubts here 🙂
I always feel bad for truck drivers in my area. Some of the tunnels are so narrow that if two of them meet, they pretty much have to stop and sneak past each other. It's crazy that the main road we rely on for food and other goods is in such bad shape some places (at least up north where I live). But the new roads are great! We just don't have a lot of them in my area.
I totally agree 👍🏻 why there is only one way and no stop area and what you will do if something happen to your car? No road lights?! Specially the tourist attraction area it’s only one car road and nothing changed for years.

I love your reactions to Norway. You have a few minor faults about our country but in general you are the best of telling it, that I've seen. I guess it depends on where you come from in this country and whats your education, situation and location and so on. And now its 2021 not 2019.

Hi Anna, thank you for your very interesting video about so many useful info regarding Norway!!! I have a quick question: I can see that there are a lot of remote homes which are isolated from major neighborhoods. My question is: How do those remote homes which are in the woods (like the home that you have shown) get power (electricity) ? Is it solar? Also, do those isolated homes in the woods have Internet access?
I think one of the biggest cons for someone moving to Norway is learning the language. Yes, there are some professions where you may get by on English, but you will struggle to get a job with no Norwegian skills. Most Norwegians speak English, and some have smatterings of German or French/Spanish, but few have the vocabulary to explain their illness in English to their doctor, and would not like to see a doctor who couldn't understand Norwegian. The pro about Norwegian is that it's a pretty simple language to learn the rules of, but speaking it fluently can take some time. We also have a variety of dialects, and you'll gain lots of cred for trying to speak the local dialect.
Absolutely! I still tend to believe that if you want to move to another country permanently - you must learn local language! No matter that everyone speaks English, it’s the matter of respect to the society you are in 🙂 If one day I decide to move to Norway permanently gorgeous Norwegian language will be the first thing I’ll adopt ☺️
And thisnisnwhy I'm attempting to learn norwegian even tho its gonna be a few more years til I eventually move there- I'll hopefully be some what fluent seeing as in in 2+ years of me studying it- we'll see tho
Sounds like French then. I find the vocab easy enough as I already speak Spanish but that damn accent and pronunciation makes it certain that I never sound anywhere near fluent haha.
Yes, this is so true! Especially if you want to work in a store, you wont get hired unless you speak norwegian🤷♀️ But dont give up! Speak Norwegian with us🙂
Hi Anna. I’m from Spain. One thing,I was in Moss visiting a Norwegian friend. She complained a lot about how boring is her city. Besides, she explained to me the problems of alcoholism. It’s that true? Is it a real problem? Prices for alcohol are prohibitively high so I found quite difficult getting drunk there. I loved the landscape, the cleanliness, the kindness of people and the silence in bars and restaurants. (The variety of food is quite short). Anyway, I’m 53 now, too late to move there. Language is a barrier despite of being able to communicate in English.
Yup, this still makes me really want to visit Norway and see where some of where I understand my ancestors came from. Although, a lot of Norway seems to be very similar to my home country New Zealand, which is kind of surprising I gotta admit.
Lol I think the low speed limit is a pro! I don't like going 100km/hr, I don't need to! The only reason I ever speed up that much is because I feel pressured by other drivers behind me on the highway, and I have horrible social anxiety. So I sacrifice my own comfort and safety, for the happiness of others 🙃. I think 80km/hr is plenty.
A foreigner once said that when a Norwegian (ethnic Norwegian) commits something wrong a crime, the Norwegians do not consider this Norwegian citizen enough, they always say that he has some ancestry outside Norway, is that true?
As a New Zealander just about everything you've said about Norway applies in NZ,very similar in so many ways apart from the colder temps. I've seen a couple of your videos and didn't realise you were Russian,I hope to travel there one day, always been fascinated by Russia.
Aww thank you so much! Likewise! I would LOVE to visit New Zealand one day! I live in NZ now and there is no any similarity between NZ and Norway except nature.NZ is expensive country with no life.People work 11-13 hours on day to make some money.Too boring for young people as well.Tax too high and for that tax you get nothing except to finance people on benefits.Too much criminal and definitely not safe country like they present to world.Too much depression and suicide. All you need to pay wherever you go,doctor, school all.Norway is 1000 years in front of NZ and for high tax you get something.I regret day when I left Europe and came here to NZ,so see you Norway in February :) And you Anna great work and channel :)
Well, one of the reason the low speedlimit has to be the road standards in Norway are terrible, especially on the countryside and in northern part of Norway.
Compare it to other places with a similar climate. I lived in Maine for 8 years the roads were very bad because the cold. Frost heaves destroy roads over night.

In recent years the post office have downsized quite a bit as a result of the Internet. Now there is no mail deliveries on Saturdays, and there are only 2-3 deliveries each week to most houses. Other than that the mail is reasonably fast. You can of course buy online from Amazon in UK (or US or Germany), but recently Amazon Sweden has also arrived. In addition there are multiple Norwegian alternatives, depending on what you are looking for.

Definitely bokmal, foreigners working in my company and try to speak Norwegian complain they do not understand nynorsk, because people speaking "nynorsk" usually do not pronounce each word properly
This is a very good description of my country. I dont aggree with the post deliverance time.... But I know that official documents have a longer delivery time.
When you're looking for the perfect country for you, that you stumble across a pros & cons video, and you like the cons as much as the pros, you know you're on to something...
I just want to say that fines for breaking the speed limit in Norway are fixed and only based on how much you have exeded the speed limit, not your income, unless you have driven so fast that you have to appear in court.
Only partially true. The fines are fixed, but also not. In addition to fixed fines, the police, or court should the case go that far, can add to the fine based on your income. For speeding, you can get an additional 10% of your annual salary as a fine.
Thank you very much, guys! I appreciate your experts' input so much. It is rather sensitive subject especially for people who have just arrived to the country.
Well... i visited the Nordkapp three weeks ago... and jumped in the sea. For exactly 3:22 minutes ;) But I did it! Thanks so much for your great videos about norway!
Love watching your videos Anna, I enjoyed it .. and I really wish we could move to Norway next year .. Me and my dutch boyfriend really wants to live there .. love the nature .
Again, very informative and correct. Just a few details; The official speed limits in Norway are 50 and 80 kmh. Everything else is an (in legal terms) exception, but you will see everything between 30 kmh to 110 kmh (soon 120 kmh in selected areas). Speeding is very costly, but there are mostly standard fines for everybody. Fines for traffic violations range from €50 / $60 to a whopping €1130 / $1360! In some circumstances, like drunk driving (which is a very serious crime in Norway) there can be graded fines relative to your income, revoked license and/or jail time. Repetitive violations can in very rare situations also result in a confiscated car, no matter what car it is. So your neighbor should drive carefully ;) BTW Norway has _the_ lowest traffic death toll in the world with a large margin (Only Sweden comes close). So maybe strict laws do matter :)

Amazon not being in Norway is a blessing. That company is corrupt to its core.
Well.. yes and no here 🙂 they are convenient for the customers

Jo Nesbø would disagree about crime.
It's great that there is no Amazon, well done, Norway.
yes I was like "why is that a con?!?!"
It is when you have to go to seven stores or make seven different orders to accomplish the same bit of shopping. That said, Sweden has Amazon and it is going BADLY. But that mostly due to the postal system. So we order from German Amazon. Just like the Norwegians do.
We also dont have walmart or target or lots of candy from other places or wendys or any of that stuff the best you can Get is mc Donalds
I’m from norway
What do you mean there is no Amazon? I ordered 5 times already this hear.
Norway has always fascinated me . From it's natural beauty to the culture ...I really got to save up and visit 😎 By the way , your videos are great ! Keep up the awesome content 👍
Their reindeer population is inedible due to Chernobyl radiation... Have fun
I think it's better than Bergen

I would come hang out for coffee in Oslo with you :D Your videos are so much fun and very informative, even through the eyes of a norwegian.

Very good point, thank you Dejan 🤗🤗
I remember the tunnels in Lofoten - like literally the Arctic Circle- the way those tunnels made! I was pleasantly shocked 😁
Infrastructure is really good in Norway, no doubts here 🙂
I always feel bad for truck drivers in my area.
I totally agree 👍🏻 why there is only one way and no stop area and what you will do if something happen to your car? No road lights?! Specially the tourist attraction area it’s only one car road and nothing changed for years.
The numbers are what they are.

No matter that everyone speaks English, it’s the matter of respect to the society you are in 🙂
If one day I decide to move to Norway permanently gorgeous Norwegian language will be the first thing I’ll adopt ☺️
Speak Norwegian with us🙂
Good work ! I loved this one 😍 nice job @anna
Thank you so much Taieb ☺️🤗🤗 I’m so happy you enjoyed it 🙂
I am really impressed by Norway and my dream is to move there one day. Your videos are very interesting and informative 😁💕

I like high quality life standard, like Norway.
Thank you so much 🤗🤗
Thank you very very much for all those wonderful videos , they made me fell in love with the Scandinavian countries especially Norway 🇳🇴
Same. You and I are the same in that regard.
As a British citizen it will be much easier for me know 😉 I will start planning my trip as soon as this craziness is over ..

St Petersburg- great choice! Worth a visit absolutely! I’ve been there only once like 15 years ago ☺️ It’s time to refresh my memories for sure 🙂
Yes, when you cross the border from Sweden, you discover the bad roads at once.
Compare it to other places with a similar climate. I lived in Maine for 8 years the roads were very bad because the cold. Frost heaves destroy roads over night.
Great video! Simply and clear explained. Thank you very much.

I'm seriously thinking about moving to Norway these days and I have two questions I would like to ask you:
1. Which language should I study before looking for a job there, Bokmal or Nynorsk?
2. Are there job opportunities in the tourism field (I have a master's degree)?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Definitely bokmal majority of people know it
You should definetly learn bokmål before nynorsk
Definetely bokmål, nynorsk is used more as a writing language, not so much to speak ;)
Definitely bokmal, foreigners working in my company and try to speak Norwegian complain they do not understand nynorsk, because people speaking "nynorsk" usually do not pronounce each word properly
Very informative. Thanks Anna.

It is rather sensitive subject especially for people who have just arrived to the country.

your vid are absolutely incredibles. We are moving to Norway in the next year and Im so excited about it because of your vid :D thx
Very informative video. I really appreciate your input on this wonderful country. 😁
So your neighbor should drive carefully ;)
BTW Norway has _the_ lowest traffic death toll in the world with a large margin (Only Sweden comes close). So maybe strict laws do matter :)
Hi Anna !

I greet you. "Hey Man...Welcome...Welcome to this place." You take off your shoes and all is right. You pour yourself a glass of whiskey in this warm cabin. You don't need to ask, you just do. There's no need for me to say anything, you understand, know what I mean? The fire is crackling, thinking about how welcome and content you are in this place.
Outside the wind is blowing, it's a little bit chilly, the sky is deep and black...but not in here. In here it's warm, it's cozy, it;s a little bit just kind of right and okay. Welcome to this place. Stay the night, there's an extra bed. "Alright man, I'm gonna hit the old dusty trail, hit the sack." I retire to my room. You stay up a bit, but...not tooo much later, just a bit late, you know what I mean? And then you close your eyes and let the sound of the fire put you to sleep.
When it comes to alcohol and tobacco you should do what Norwegians do and go to Sweden to get them. Once a month i would travel to Åre with friends and we go buy alcohol, tobacco and other products that are expensive in Norway. There are border towns in Sweden that cater to Norwegians specifically.
Excellent 👌
Thank you so much 🤗
I had a distant paternal ancestor who was born in Romerike, Norway, so I am interested in that area including history back to 11th century. Best regards, Doug
