Wow, this explains a lot! Both of my parents are 100% Norwegian, but moved here to the U.S. as small children - so I was born here. And I always wondered why my mom never says goodbye at parties! We always told her it was rude and she never understood! And I always thought my aunt was a germophobe because she made us take off our shoes before we could enter her living room. Love this! And it helps me see that my family isn't crazy!

Genuine blue eyes...bluer than blue, so rare and so beautiful.
I was commenting on the particular "blueness" of her eyes, they are not just blue, but such high-contrast, very saturated blue. I'm sure you've seen many shades of light eyes, not all are created equal. Hers are very beautiful, while others that are pale and watery leave me indifferent.
And let's not forget that brown eyes are more common than you think, even in those countries. You mentioned Germany, there are tons of brown-eyed people there, and ethnic Germans too. And of course, the world is not Northern Europe. Not by a long shot.
Actually green eyes are more rare than blue eyes (global scale)

@@bonsummers2657 There are, although not as many as some other countries. The most likely part to find that blonde haired, blue eyed appearance is in the North, near the Austrian and Swiss border. Her accent doesn't sound at all Italian to me.

I'm not from Norway but my grandparents are and I'm finding that I can really relate to her video. I now know why I have these "strange" behaviours and they are just perfectly "normal" for me .

I've been twice in norway for sport related reasons and simply loved it, I have a sotry about norwegian being trusty I'd like to share, I remember we went in this forest where we would have our training session and we needed to drive over a private road and so pay a toll, so our host went to a box like the ones in a church to collect offers and put inside the money and from another box took a form and started writing his recipt and put in plain view in the car, so my italian mind immediatly came with a question "how do they know you actuaally paid?" and naively asked my host that question, he replied the owners would randomly come and check the recipts in the cars, at that point I just exclamated "but you wrote your own recipt" and he replied "yes" in that moment I felt like I was a threath to the norwegina society and I just said "ok".
Federico Sbetta Your story reminds me of that time when I discovered that, in the Japanese countryside, people install stands with a box to sell their products, and people passing by just having to take what they want and pay... And nothing is watching, it's all based on trust. My first thought was "oh this stand would get so robbed, in France" (funnily enough, the Brit doing the video said something similar applying to the UK).
Countries where trust is a thing and people respect it are precious.
We trust pretty much everyone Nd are naive, it's actually the perfect country for a criminal

I’ve been living in Norway for about 5 months now and I noticed all the things you mentioned, but I don’t think it makes you weird nor strange. It’s a very nice country to live in and I am definitely going to miss it! I think the best part though is how to see how the behavior changes when you’re in the nature, I went hiking quite a few times and people up there in the mountains are usually more “open”, friendly and outgoing, people will usually smile at you and say hi and I find that quite fascinating
The reason why Norwegians talk to others when they are out in the mountains is for safety reasons. The weather is unstable, and a nice mountain trip can in a very short time become extreme. If something happens to you, someone else knows where you plan to go. It is so embedded in the culture that many young people are not aware that this is the reason why Norwegians have always spoken to strangers when they are hiking.

@@Yupj711 No. They update themselves on the weather and other conditions that you need knowledge of when you are out in nature. They not only receive information - they also pass it on. They communicate with others for safety reasons, but of course also because it's nice to meet people when you're alone in the wilderness.

I always find so fascinated to hear about other countries habits and cultural behaviours. I don't think you're weird :) you are you and that's perfectly fine. Italians can be as weird as other countries people ^^ I've lived around the world and I can say that as much as we can be different european people nave so much in common and the funny thing is that...we don't even know that! ^_^

Hi No Shadows Here.. I actually think that making a good friendship is always hard, cause u need to mingle a lot with the people u wanna meet in deep, so no big difference in any country u'll move to. If we talk about just getting to know.. well.. yeah, most of the times norwegian fellows tend to avoid to talk. It's part of their culture, so u have to accept that, if u live there.. but on the contrary i consider that a good opportunity to challenge yourself and your social skills. You definitely ought to visit Norway and make your mind up to what you'll experince "up there" :)

I live in Canberra, Australia and some of us, including me, at exactly the same haha ! But it seems there like it's more out a nationally unspoken thing they every body does, and from what you describe, it sounds like you guys can be a why people, which isn't bad at all!! I also love how you guys cope with the cold, I'll remember that saying haha, and love connecting with nature - a lot of cool things. Definitely want to visit one day ! :)
After 5 years in Norway, I am now going back to Portugal. Sometimes it was not easy but definitely worth it. Beautiful country and funny - albeit weird at times - people :) Looking forward to come back to Norway to explore all I had not the time (since I was working pretty much all the time).

I'm from Minnesota (states) and we are very similar, culturally. We take shoes off, the bus experience is pretty similar and lots of people have cabins up north! There's a saying "Minnesota nice" and as I got older I learned- it's a joke!

I find it funny how Norwegians are so similar to Finns. Same habits, same stereotypes, same attitudes, same problems etc.

That was really funny about the bus. I noticed in Europe, when person wants to get out of the bus and another passenger is blocking, then pretending to pack a bag is like a non-verbal notice. Funny but yet most communication between people is non-verbal.

I think people in Northern Europe drink a lot because they are so shy and cold and they need to drink to feel more sociable , while here in Italy we don't need alcohol to drink to have fun . People drink here but not nearly as much as they do in Northern Europe .
The culture is more reserved but it is not just shyness. Traditionally, most Scandinavians lived rurally and in small numbers so they are not used to being around huge numbers of people and they tend to not feel comfortable in those situations. The cold, miserable weather is also a factor as it does not make people naturally want to hang around outside talking or playing chess all day like in Southern Europe and another major factor is the price of alcohol, dining out and nightlife. It is so expensive here that most people spend the majority of the evening and early morning at pre parties and after parties. Scandinavian culture is very different to most of Western Europe in this regard. In the capitals and big cities, things are a bit different.
That's true, if not for alcohol most of us would never have been borne. And the high alcohol tax is okay, we got a huge liquor store where we don't have to pay the tax anyway, it's called Sweden.

I've known many of these things thanks to a few of my Norwegian friends. Though where i am from is considered highly 'warm' and intimate and all that stuff, knowing Scandinavian people i've come to realise that it's also the way i am. Except for... one thing... It took me so long to get used to not hearing goodbyes

Hello people ..i just want to say something....i am african, black african...ive lived there all my life and i am currently an international student in Hungary...while watching this video...i felt very sad. This girl is so beautiful, so pure.....i am very against the "progressive multiculturalism bullshit" that i see happening in certain European countries..and i can't help but feel like you are being cheated. As an african....i wouldn't be able to stand it if Europeans came to my county for the purpose of being "multicultural" or "multiracial" and then they insult or attempt to change my culture and beliefs. In addition cause unrest in my country.....like i said i study Medicine in Hungary. I am very fascinated by European culture and history...it is sad that you allow people to take the beauty of your culture and belittle it and say that europe is in need of more colours...please!! Europe is fine the way it is....you have the power to vote out the menacing leaders that put you into this mess please use the chances you have. The beauty of mankind is how different we are...i'd like to live my home countries to travel and fly to china and see chinese looking people and chinese culture then fly to iceland and see icelandic looking people and icelandic culture...if there were black and arabs everywhere then the world will become less interesting because then i'll just be seeing the usual everywhere i go.....why isn't the multiculturalism bullshit affecting asia and africa ...why europe??...qatar, saudiarabia and the UAE has not accepted a single refugee??...why do you allow yourself to be played by your evil leaders??....please vote these people out.....i love myself as an african and i am proud...and i am stidying in hungary currently and i'll go back to make my own country great and if possible my continent while preserving our culture. You should do the same...there is nothing wrong with defending the land you own and the land that has grown because of your labour. People like me seek education in european countries and we do it legally, we get our papers and we respect our host countries laws during our stay. Hungary has been very welcoming and understanding,they work with logic and principles. As an Estonian, 90% of the things you listed also apply to us. I think the biggest difference is eating tacos-not really a thing here. We eat more asian cuisine instead.

the norwegian habits are not as strange as they seemed to be... I mean it's not only Norway and the people there and how the habits are. In Sweden and Germany(and maybe also in Danmark) these habits are also kind of common there. :)

Very educational. I've never been to Norway, but I've been to Sweden twice. People in Sweden were helpful, but felt very sad, cold and distant (in public settings). What's shocking to me and sad is the whole Public Transportation body language (sitting and exciting as you describe it in this video). I love proper, respectful, clear and to-the-point communication. This type of societal behavior is basically very sad to me. It almost feels like people treat each other like..."You have a weird disease...stay away!". I believe in personal space, but not to this degree. It's nice that you guys have low crime and trust each other. Low crime is also closely related to climate...the colder it is, the more people will be indoors and not outdoors trying to do bad to others...so climate/weather helps Norway. The lack of facial expressions would be very hard for me to comprehend (Had a funny thought...If I went there and met someone and this person told me "I'm sad" with a straight face, I'd probably think...well...I guess she/he is NOT that sad after all!...LOL!). The natural beauty of the country would attract me to visit and my desire to see The Scream by Edvard Munch, but the people...not really!

I am American and very proud of my Norwegian heritage. I have been searching forever for an authentic (men's size large) sweater that I can wear at Julefest and other Norwegian events and also just for wearing every day, so not too formal. My heritage is mainly from the Telemark region. I know of Dale of Norway sweaters, but I think I want something a little more special. Can you please help me find an authentic made in Norway sweater that I can buy and have mailed to America?

Brazilian here, but I think I'm norwegian at heart lol especially the thing about ot saying goodbye. I'm shy so a lot of times I wish I could just leave places without having to talk to anyone. I also think that people should take out their shoes when they go inside houses. And I absolutely LOVE listening to norwegian language. It's so hard to learn though haha but maybe someday I'll get inspired and start learning it

I´m from Trondheim! A bit in the center...
I've been in Romsdal the closest on my vacation in Norway long time ago. We've only seen Trondheim on the roadsigns, but i was dissapoimted we never drove to Trondheim. We went to Oppdal then to the West to Åndalsnes in a big trip through Southern Norway, started from Oslo Airport in a hotel somehere nearby Hamar if i not mistake, or Romedal, and the last night we sleep in the hotel Gardermoen next to Oslo Airport. We had also experienced the St. Hansfest (Midsummernightparty). Despite the rain we went outside for the fireplaces.
For example a couple of other places we've been; Hamar, Beitostølen, Jotunheimen, Trollstigen, Ålesund, Geirangerfjord, Bergen, Stavanger, Kristiansand ( i tought that was the place on a lake and only nature, which was a very big switchover from the big cities) Telemarkskanalen, and Oslo. From Oslo we went to Gardermoen for the last night. It was hard to say goodbye to Norway :(.

11:00 The level of trust in Norway is actually very high, even if we are shy. Some anthropologists have said that "being genuine" is a central topic for norwegian and scandinavian culture..so then we don't talk to one another if we don't have anything genuine and apropriate to share. An encounter should have a purpose and should not be too intrusive. There are at least 2 sides to this coin.....

Her accent doesn't sound Norwegian at all? It sounds a lot more italian. She says "these" instead of "this", in the norwegian accent you would pronounce more like "dis".

And they have a very widespread tendency to do the opposite of what they say. And if anything goes wrong, the most Norwegian thing appears: nobody will be responsible for it. Ansvarsfraskrivelse ist the Norwegian word which says the most about it. And Norwegians react like anxious dogs when being critisized. They will bite back just as a reflex, never even thinking about it might be justified being critisized.
That's my experience of two decades living in Norway. And I didn't even mention the really bad experiences.

The bus thing is not weird in Greece we don't speek to each other in the bus either.if we do speek it will be to answer a question for directions and since the buses in Athens are usually overcrowded when someone stumbles on another person usually it ends in a fight or insults.Yep we don't talk to each other but when we do we scream at the other passengers 😏
