What info did the mother expect when she cancelled the dress? She’s acting as if the daughter would not have cancelled the order if someone had said the price may go up. This is nuts. Giving her the dress at just $250 more was more than fair and I think Kleinfeld should have stuck to that.

If she was *_canceling_* the dress -- _not_ "postponing" or needing to work out payments or something, but *canceling,* then prices and all that shouldn't have / wouldn't have played into her decision. You don't pay $5000.00 for something you don't want for some reason because _eventually_ it might cost more.
And lowering the price so it's only $250.00 more than it was when she bought it the first time is a _cheap_ damn lesson! Adding $250 to $5,000? It's like $258.72 : past the $250 mark, what's the 72¢ gonna do?
[I had a legal bill getting my name fixed. It's been well over 30 years ago but i remember because of the 72¢. $259.00 made sense to me, but that 72¢ _still_ makes me laugh out loud at the absurdity.]

Since they knew her limit was $5000, why did they even bring out a dress that was so much more expensive???!! It doesn't matter that she liked it before (and then didn't like it anymore), it was obviously no longer in her price range so why even show it to her!!! Especially when the store had to be packed with dresses that are all within her very generous budget! And some of them probably almost identical! It was a really weird, even mean thing to do, and just for a "fun" wager between staff??
Now if SHE'D asked to see the dress again, they could have told her that it was no longer in her price range and then let HER decide if she still wanted to go there KNOWING it was now way out of her budget.
And, yes, she had a right to cancel her first order for the dress if she felt she'd made a mistake and was still within the time limit to be able to do so (although she probably should have gone and tried the dress on again just to be sure AND they could have warned her that the price of the dress had gone up significantly just in case that would have swayed her decision to cancel).
And, no, just because it had originally been a certain price does not mean it is always going to be available at that price (and while it's ok to be disappointed that the price had gone up so much from when she'd first ordered it the year prior, there was no reason for her or her mom to get so upset and huffy about the price having changed, it's called inflation and it happens to everything over time, as we are ALL well aware).
But why did the staff bring it to her again in the first place, KNOWING she'd cancelled her first order of it AND that it was now so much out of her price range??
Everyone involved in this shares the blame for the really unnecessary conflict that ensued.
Oh, and having to pay 5% more on a dress that has actually gone up 20%? She and her mom should have thanked their lucky stars that the store was able to come to such a compromise if they (now) really loved the dress that much.
Or been willing to pass entirely on the dress, and to keep trying on all the OTHER dresses that were within her very generous but also (apparently)100% written-in-stone budget.
But in the end the store had to go even further to placate them, and ended up giving her the dress AND a veil for even less than the original price of just the dress.
And then, OH!, the immense relief and joy over a dress she'd previously decided she didn't even like anymore.
I hope all the totally needless drama was worth it.

Why would they tell a customer that the dress they are cancelling because they were doubtful they even "still" liked it, is going up in price? Important to note, there was a three-month lag in-between cancelling her dress (at the very last minute before going to production so "committed",) and her appointment to find another dress! So they were probably dress shopping during that time elsewhere (mom hoping she'd find a just as nice (more affordable?) dress. Did you see her facial expression when she said the dress her daughter had on was remarkably similar to the one she cancelled? (Worried! ($$)) The crying bride asked her mom if it was "ok" (the price, even though it was a better deal than the first contract). So I'm thinking it was mom who pressured her to cancel and try to find a more affordable dress in the first place. Nice of Kliendfeld's management team to accommodate the bride and get her in her dream dress.

They aren't going to say well the price is going to go up because that becomes irrelevant if she didn't want the dress.

Not happening in our stores. When I went with my daughter to buy her bridal gown, we were in a store that held 3,000 dresses (yes, around 1,000 more than that terribly overrated Kleinfeld's, indeed!) and had four months to go until the wedding. My daughter tried on dresses, decided on one of them, took pictures of it. Six weeks later she had her first fitting of the dress, and four weeks before the wedding the final fitting. Fitted her like a glove at the wedding. Oh, and it was by British designer Justin Alexander, just to say. Can't understand the fuss and long-windedness created by most of the U.S. stores.

Mom and daughter chose to cancel. Somehow it became the salons responsibility to tell them there is a chance the price could go up. No. Go back. Put the dress on again..THEN decide if you want to cancel. And what nerve, after they brought the price down to only $250 more than they originally priced it...to still complain. Obnoxious.
