- I take part to the 13th Rally Legend event in the Republic of San Marino. Just like every year, this important rally gathers some of the most iconic rally cars (such as Group B ones!) and enthusiasts from all around Europe! Weather wasn't good but it was ideal to film some proper rally action from a hairpin!

It's a pretty modern car and it's 4 wheel drive, the Polo is nearly as good around that corner, which is basically the same car.
Those Lancias look fantastic! Also, the stability of the Quattro at 3:47 is a sight to behold, it doesn't even flinch at the rain

I love the Audi Quattro S1. The I5 in that car just makes such a magical sound. I need it in my life. Glad Audi still puts a I5 in their RS3 and TTRS.
What i love of this rally is despite being such an incredible cars and historic pieces they are driven to the limit and they give us and such a wonderful show
i have to say this is by far the best selection of old cars i think iv ever seen compete in the same rally

It's good to see, that even the actual wrc drivers like Latvala are able to perform some cool drifts if necessary. But all my respect goes out to the guys (and girls?) of the slowly sideways team. They perform a great show with their historic cars, whenever i see them.
Compared to the WRC cars, that drive as if on rails, these guys may not be the fastest, but the most entertaining.
Some of these rally cars sound way better than today's F1 cars

Being new to rally racing, I would also like to know...time penalty maybe? hazard up ahead?
It's usually caused by morons on the track, walking back and forth like it's a Sunday stroll. It's why group B were banned along with driver deaths. I can remember a whole stage being pulled in the Welsh stages of the 77 rac rally for idiots who wouldn't move from the outside of bend. Walked 4 miles to see 3 cars thanks to them.
@@nickwilliams1065 I never understood that, why walk 3 meters to see something you could ve saw from a relatively safe distance?
Also, they should ve made the spectators and drivers sign forms stating that they understand they can die if they partake...
@@Micro13bk it was generally much worse on the continent, there is footage of group B cars driving through a sea of spectators, inches away from the cars, pure madness and very unfair on the drivers, who always got the blame when it went wrong, have a look at the Greek and Portuguese rallies which were the worst. Here in the UK wasn't as bad but still some idiots used to spoil it for the majority as marshals used to pull the stage, so you'd miss seeing the cars, they used to run a safety car through before the cars and if they thought it unsafe they'd also pull the plug.

I hate how some people believe Group B ended because of the spectators, while the real danger was at the drivers car. It ended because of Toivonen, hit a tree, the car evaporates, gone, turned into powder.

as you can see, even without spectacular drifts only just for the spectators, you can drive extremely quickly around the bend
Check out how much better the modern cars deal with the wet conditions. Jari-Matti Latvala in the WRC VW Polo went round that corner faster than anyone and he did it from a standing start. Everyone gets all wound up about how fast Group B supposedly was but the modern cars are sooo much faster, and next year we will see the fastest rally cars in history with the new WRC rules. Don't get me wrong, I love the old cars as much as anyone but WRC 2017 is gonna be epic.

dvr1337 The older group B cars are faster, on long straights and long swooping corners. But barely. Modern WRC is so much faster in any other turn and across a stage are A LOT faster. People don't realise how quick newer WRC cars are despite the regulations they work to. Heck by 1993 group A cars were posting faster stage times than the fastest group B cars were.
I would hope that cars with 30 years of technological advancement would be better. The real question is what if group b were still around today. What could those cars do?

That's Jari-Matti Latvala, WRC VW works team. He's crazy brave, and FAST. I'd guess the previous car spun and/or crashed and blocked the road momentarily so they had to hold him up until the road was clear.
