This is exactly why you should have a gun. Cops aren't going to be around to protect you and criminals won't be punished. Better to be a criminal with these laws than a law-abiding citizen.

Left illinois in June. Lived there my entire life. 41yrs. Worked downtown Chicago for 21. The crime is crazy now and it's only gonna get worse. So sad what our mayor and governor have allowed to happen to chicago and Illinois. I guess we left at the right time. Stay strapped up and stay safe out there.

It doesn't legalize crime goofy. It gets rid of cash bail. If a judge deems you too violent to release, they won't release you. It also makes tampering with body cams a felony. This is a good bill.

The only way they should be allowed to pass this bill is on the condition that they themselves have to live in the most dangerous areas of chicago, along with their families, with the same income and security as the majority of the people living in these areas, while also complying with gun laws, or maybe not even having a gun, like a lot of people in Illinois dont have one. The ones who passed this bill dont care about the people. They are sadistic. They know that the amount of murders, robberies, kidnappings and even rapes will inevitably go up. But it wont happen to them, so they dont care. They are having fun with this. They cant wait to watch hell break loose in Illinois. This is an experiment, an experiment that they get to watch from the safety of their more expensive houses with better security, at the expense of the innocent people living in Illinois.

All my families in Chicago carry legally ! Literally my aunts have concealed carry because my uncles made them take classes for there safety. I do sometimes worry about them because of the crime rate I mean the chances of you being at the wrong place at the wrong time in Chicago are very high especially while you’re filling up gas depending what area you’re in. I live in North Carolina everyone here carry’s including me but I’m thankful I don’t have to wake up everyday having to worry what neighborhood I have to pass through. All we have is big Forrest, wild life and friendly people around us, not all but most !
Ok so I’m a chicago native I’ve lived here for almost 25 years and haven’t ever experienced a bad situation although I do want to clarify some stuff here. First your right crime rates are very high but it’s mostly gang on gang violence it’s vary rare for the average joe to be targeted. This crime is also in small Concentrated areas it’s honestly really sad to see. It’s probably smart to avoid some parts in the south and west side, but for the most part chicago is as safe as most other major city’s. Some stuff just goes without saying like don’t Flaunt around with money and don’t leave your car door unlocked but you know basic 101 stuff. This law is Concerning though. Anyway I will be happy to clarify anything else if your interested

I still have yet to find a direct answer as to why putting an end to cash bail would put more dangerous people on the streets.
Its just gonna allow all criminals to commit crimes for less perceived risk which will raise crime rates. People can still have committed only misdemeanors and still be dangerous. Battery and armed shoplifting are misdemeanors.
When there is no cash bail, there is also no risk in losing money to court if you don’t show up. People are committing fuckloads of crime today however

I think the new law provides that NO ONE can be incarcerated until trial...no matter how dangerous they might be to the public.
It's like Catch and Release Fishing; but for criminals.
The criminal who sexually assaulted me as a child is finally behind bars, but we don't start trial until the new year. With the safety act, this individual would be free to roam the streets because he's not 'dangerous' while awaiting trial. While I can't calculate the chance that the individual would be upset enough to try and find me, I am worried that he would be freed on account of him being broke and old- I owe it to his grand babies and other young adults to keep them safe so what happened to me doesn't happen to them.
Who's to say he wouldn't come find me? Who's to say he wouldn't try to hurt me? I don't want to live in fear anymore. That's why I went to the police to begin with.
Does it create a more dangerous situation? Yeah, because he thought he wasn't going to have to pay for his crimes and when you trap and animal they tend to lash out to protect themselves.
Innocent until proven guilty people. People who are innocent shouldn't be in a prison cell until proven guilty. Period.

It was once believed that an individual was presumed innocent until proven guilty by the State, not an LEO. It is the obligation of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. NOT the defendants.

Paying bond serves as a deterrent for repeating any offense.
It also keeps many in jail who shouldn't be released.
If we were to make things more equitable, bond should be based on an individual's income and net worth, not just the crime.
With no bond to pay, criminals can now commit crimes at will without much repercussion.
They can steal and steal again, if they get caught, they'll just get released.
So they'll do it again and again. Skipping court dates and then getting released if they get arrested for that too.
There's nothing preventing them from just doing whatever.

If I go into my bank and pull out about 2k and on my way back to the car somebody robs me, and of course being in front of the bank it's on camera. Now my question is...knowing this will the bank take that loss on themselves and just give me another 2k or do I have to take that hit which I really can't afford.
My point is, you see how easy it is for people with money to tell you not to fight for yours and this is also the reason why this crime is growing.

If every time somebody broke in a house ..."EVERY TIME" they were shot and killed that crime would stop. Just like with carjackings "EVERY TIME" that crime would stop.
The reason why criminals do crimes is because they know it's about a 73% success rate because most people are not prepared to defend themselves.
But that's the thing, society is not supposed to worry about such things because we pay people millions to deal with these types of problems. But when the people we have put in power are in alinement with the criminals on the street then you have a break down in our social construct and a world in complete anarchy.

Being a police officer is probably the toughest job in America right now. When no cash bail kicks in, rich people will live in gated communities W/armed guards. The rest of us, oh well.
Being a police doesn't even make it in the top 10 toughest jobs and in it might not even be in the top 20. In fact, just being a citizen is more dangerous then being a cop

When MS 13 or another street gang become the "cops" like they are in Honduras or El Salvador I think your going to feel very differently about this. Theres hardened criminals and there's people that maybe got into a scuffle at the bar and didn't need to sit in jail over money. Bail hurts decent people more than the deserving criminals. Most criminals that deserve to sit in jail either get NO bond or it's so high they end up staying put, as they should.
