“When you’re taking care of a parent, who doesn’t necessarily agree with your way of life, you sorta have to put aside all of that to be of service. And sometimes thats really challenging and I’m still healing that part of me” I feel this quote so much Kyle. Thanks for being you authentically you.

Know this: since you've been home helping your Father, his respect and love for you have, as sure as the morning sun, only grown. Whether or not you ever hear the words from him that you long for is unknowable, but never doubt that he has seen a new side of his son that fills his heart
with much pride and gratitude. I hope that he is able to express this to you.
I speak from experience, and wish only the best for you and your family.

Parental relationships are hard especially if a parent doesn’t own mistakes they may have made. My mother just doesn’t believe in addressing the past so whenever I say hey you did this and it hurt me, her response is why do you dwell in the past, let it go. It’s really hard because you love your parent but you have to love yourself too, it’s a balancing act. Your dad is lucky to have a son who cares enough to up root his life and come home to help. I’ve already told my sister when our mom gets old she is so moving in with her because I could not cope, we’d be like whatever happened to baby Jane. Hang in there and thanks for sharing this with us.

Taking care of a loved one as a full time carer is a beautiful gift. And especially so when it's a parent. Having a role reversed can be challenging and taxing for both parties. You are an amazing human being Kyle but remember to practice lots of self care and more importantly self preservation. Ask for help where needed/appropriate and remember to keep yourself grounded.

You are a great son! My dad and I never got along but towards the end, he understood that I was gay not by choice but I was born this way. No matter how he didn't understand who I was, I never gave up on loving him. I miss him so much each day. He died of colon cancer and towards the end. The last day we watch one of his favorite shows "Gun Smoke" an old black and white show. We laughed so much and he looked at me and told me he loved me and he understands why I fought so hard to be me. Thank God for that time in the end. You are blessed each day, you still have your dad and I am so happy to see someone like me in you that forgives and loved within your heart. I love this content in your video. Very well done!

I was a hairdresser for 13 yrs and a nurse for 22 yrs. Many years ago my family did not agree much with my life either; however, after many years of haircuts and taking care of after surgeries and illnesses, they have a whole different perspective of me, and me of them.
I believe your dad , though he may not vocalize it, will come to love you and your sister so much more for what you are doing in helping him recover. The best to you all. Much Love 💙💜💙

I know exactly what you are going through since I am also home taking care of my mom during her recovery. It has been almost 8 months now. Sometimes I love being with her and sometimes I can’t wait to leave. It takes a lot of patience to care for a parent. Often there is a clash of thinking, routines, and how things are done. You have to put yourself in the back burner to keep the peace and to just get through the day. The focus is usually on the patient; rarely do people think about the caregiver and what he/she is going through.
Just don’t forget to take time for yourself and do something you want to do, away from your parent, at least for a little while. It is very easy to burn yourself out. You are a good son and a good person. Your dad is very lucky to have you.

It's incredible that you and your sister have upended your lives - put them on hold to take care of your father. Your Dad is a lucky man to have a son who has put aside the past to effectively take care of him. That comes from a place of real love Kyle; you are a wonderful person. I love your thoughts on coffee. I have always thought that the ritual surrounding a cup of coffee was almost sacred. Each cup I get to enjoy is like a treat and each sip of good coffee makes me smile. And on that note, I'm going to pour myself a cup. All the best to you and your Dad's recovery.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Thank you for being open and honest. My Mom passed away in 2017 following a very short and hellacious battle with cancer. I remember traveling back and forth from NY to NC to care for her and then following her passing I kept it up to care for my Dad. I made the decision to take some time and have been caring for my Dad as I processed my grief. It took me so long to realize that the exhaustion was slowly killing me. It is exhausting, frustrating and rewarding all at the same time. I absolutely get that struggle around loving someone but not liking them and having to care for them. Just know that you are a warrior. And your Dad appreciates you even if he cannot always show it in the way that you need him to. You are doing the right thing and most importantly the best thing for you. Please take the time to look after yourself and find outlets. Whatever positive outlets you need utilize them and never feel selfish for doing so. Keep telling your story whether that’s through blogging or other avenues. But keep talking! Just take care of YOU because we simply forget to do so. Sending so much positive energy to you, your Dad and your sister(s). 💜😍💪🏾

It’s so challenging and emotional taking care of a parent it has deep lows but you love them more cause you spend so much time with them. They also get upset cause they don’t want to be a burden... which idk it does put a pause button on your life but you rather them here. I lost my father after 18 years of sickness and transplant and pills and doctors appointments and saw him get weaker and to be there to the point it ended... I miss him more than how challenging it was but I’m glad he’s no longer frail... You are going to have ups and downs be strong in your sobriety and seek emotional help and other help if you need it... proud of you... your not alone

so sorry to hear about your dad's accident, kyle, but you're an incredible son for stepping up and helping him out in his recovery process. my dad was in a bad motorcycle accident twelve years ago and suffered extensive brain damage, and that was a really tough time for me // you actually helped immensely with one of your videos about therapy where you interviewed one of your (then) roommates a few years ago // i ended up reaching out to the practice he was with (since i'm NYC-based) to find a therapist who was a great fit, and i've been going to someone there for three years now, which has been massively helpful. anyway, this is a long-winded way of saying i think you're great and very strong, and i'm sending all of the posi-vibes your way throughout this process.

Whereas many RUclipsrs highlight some of the more superficial aspects of life, I feel you have really used the platform you have to highlight the experiences of others, and now, you are showcasing the power of humanity and humility. These are aspects of life that are not flashy and tantalizing, but require a great amount of vulnerability. Speaking from experience, I know how difficult it can be to strip off the layers we tend to cover ourselves in, in order to protect ourselves from a world that is oftentimes harsher and more uncaring than we expected. I do not know you but you seem to have arrived at a place in your life where the weight of those layers no longer seem to burden you as much, and you’ve allowed your truer self to emerge. Through your courage, compassion and generosity, you are illuminating a path for the rest of us to follow.

Thanks for sharing Kyle, you're doing a wonderful thing in caring for your father! Hang in there Kyle, remember to look after yourself as well- something I'm starting to learn myself from a very hard 12 months. Thanks for the food for thought. Just wanted to give you a big old hug... something that is hard to do from Australia.

I admire you for taking care of your dad, even though you haven't always had the best relationship. Parent and child relationships are challenging at times on their own, but when one is sick it can be even more difficult. I was a caregiver to my mom when she got ill, and it strained my marriage a great deal, but she was my mom and I needed to be there. It wasnt an obligation thing, it was this deep in my heart feeling. I can see that you are struggling too, but also that you love your dad. I wish you and your family all the best and your dad a speedy recovery 💗💗

You will never regret taking care of your parents
I have 9 brothers and sisters
When our parents started to decline nobody helped them so I moved across country back home and took care of them til they passed
It was an honor to help them

Kyle I have been where you are now for about 5 years. My dad has Parkinson's and Alzheimer's and has lots of issues physically. Taking care of him has been a learning experience. My father has never approved of my life style and we have always had a strained relationship. I know the I love him but, don't like him feeling all to well. U
You are a good son to take care of him. I hope your dad is better really soon. Don't forget to take care of yourself along the way!

Good for you for taking care of you dad. I have been there when my mom was ill and my dad has strong views as to how he wants his house to be run. Not easy to go back, be gentle with yourself. This can bring up some old feelings you my have thought you put to rest. Take care.😊

I empathize with your sacrifice. It is very stressful to put one's life on hold to help a sick relative. I know it is an act of love but it is not easy. Take care of yourself and get help when and where you can. These situations can go on for years. Yeah, real life. All the best to you Kyle.

Hey Kyle, hope all is going well with your Dad's recovery. I hear you re: the not excepting thing and being of service. 3 yrs ago I too moved home to help with my dad. It was a change and trying to be there for him and my mom. You do put your life a bit on hold but just know you are doing the right thing for the right reasons. You are a bright light dude. Keep shining!!!
