Patna was not like that before. In "Indica," a historical and geographical account written by the Greek historian Megasthenes, Patliputra (modern-day Patna) is described in considerable detail. Megasthenes served as an ambassador to the court of Chandragupta Maurya, and his observations provide valuable insights into the city during the Mauryan Empire.
According to Megasthenes Patliputra was an extensive city with impressive urban planning. It was situated at the confluence of the Ganga river , which enhanced its strategic importance. The city was laid out in a rectangular shape and was surrounded by a massive wooden wall with numerous towers and gates. The wall was fortified and served as a strong defense mechanism.
Patliputra was described as a large and populous city. The city stretched approximately 9.5 miles in length and 1.5 miles in width, reflecting its grandeur and extensive area. The city boasted magnificent palaces and buildings made of wood and adorned with elaborate decorations. The royal palace was particularly noted for its splendor, with intricate designs and luxurious interiors that showcased the wealth and power of the Mauryan dynasty.
: Megasthenes noted the efficient administrative system in place at Patliputra. The city was governed by a council of thirty officials divided into six committees, each responsible for different aspects of governance such as trade, commerce, and public welfare.
Patliputra was a thriving economic and cultural center. It was a hub for trade and commerce, with bustling markets and a variety of goods from different parts of the empire. The city was also a cultural melting pot, with people from various regions and backgrounds contributing to its rich and diverse culture.
Megasthenes' account of Patliputra highlights its significance as a major urban center in ancient India, reflecting the prosperity and advanced state of the Mauryan Empire.

Kulfi sold at Marine Drive are usually 20,30 or 40 rupees depending on the size. The one in the yellow shirt was trying to rip you off, he was trying to sell you that at Rs 100 first. I recommend always looking for shops or street vendors where the price for the item is already mentioned or see if there are already some customers.
